OTTUMWA - JoAnn Wickenkamp, age 73, of Ottumwa, formerly of Sigourney, died Friday, February 29, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ottumwa, following a lengthy illness. JoAnn was born icon June 2, 1934, in Sigourney, to Harry and Zelda (Ollinger) Wickenkamp. She grew up in Sigourney and lived in Glenwood several years before moving to Ottumwa in 1974. JoAnn was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. Survivors include one brother: Don Wickenkamp and wife Ann of Cedar Rapids and three sisters: Sr. M. Suzanne Wickenkamp of Ottumwa, Mary Virginia Lee of Kailua, Hawaii and Mildred Peiffer of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Sr. Suzanne Pastoral Care Endowment Fund. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.

William Lynn Schauf was born icon Thursday, September 20, 1951 in Washington, Iowa the son of Wilbur and Velda (Moffit) Schauf. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1970. He served in the Unites States Air Force for 4 years where he was stationed in London, England. After being discharged from the Air Force he lived in Colorado for 20 years where he worked for a security company. He returned to Wellman in 1998. Bill died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at his home in Wellman at the age of 56 years. Bill is survived by his mother Velda Schauf of Wellman, 5 sisters and 3 brothers - Shirley Debler of Wellman; Myrna Bozarth and husband Ray of West Liberty; Larry Schauf and wife Sandy of Wellman; Ed Schauf of Marietta, South Carolina; Dennis Schauf of West Liberty; Mary Van Dyke and husband Jerry of Louisville, Kentucky; Lori Schauf of West Liberty; Sandra Hahn of West Liberty; 12 nieces and nephews; and 15 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother Kenneth Leroy Schauf.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Cecilia “Cec” Doschadis was born icon March 26, 1924 near Walker, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Lavida (Wright) Mulneaux. She graduated from Walker High School in 1941. Cec was united in marriage on June 7, 1947 to Marvin W. Doschadis in Walker, Iowa. Cecilia will be most remembered as a wonderful wife & mom. She made sure every day was complete... great meals, clean home & a smile to greet you. She was a person that cared more about others than herself & was extremely kind. She truly believed, & followed The Golden Rule: ("Do onto others as you would have them do onto you") each & every day of her life. Although a very private person she had many talents that she shared with those close to her... drawing very detailed house plans, decorating her home with "style", growing beautiful plants & sewing. She loved to read & was a "crosswords puzzle champ". Bowling was a big part of Cec's life for many years. She enjoyed the game, the trips & all of the wonderful friends that were a part of her bowling experience. She also enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Cec & Marv enjoyed many vacations including several to Las Vegas. She taught her grandsons to play black jack & fulfilled a dream by taking all of them to Las Vegas in 1997. Always a lady, Cec's gentle nature, beautiful smile & loving spirit will live in our hearts forever. "Eternal Love" Cec peacefully passed away Saturday, February 23rd surrounded by her family at the Rose Haven Nursing Home after an extended illness at the age of 83 years. She is survived by her husband Marv, their children: Judy (Dave) Weber of Marion, Janet Doschadis of Anamosa & Mark (DeDe) Doschadis of Pella. Her grandchildren: Matthew (Teisha) Welsh, Scott (Jennifer) Welsh, Ryan (Kim) Doschadis, Barry Doschadis & step-granddaughter Shannon Rezac. Great-grandchildren: Hanna & Amiya Welsh, Lauryn Doschadis, Raeanne & Emma Welsh, & step-great grandchildren Dalton & Logan Rezac. Additional survivors include: sisters & brother-in-laws: Marlene & Mark Benest, Jack & Betty Doschadis & Torchy Doschadis. Her niece's: Susan Kirk & family, DeeDee Bonde & family, nephews: David Mulneaux & family, Scott Doschadis & family & Rick Doschadis. Also surviving are many devoted cousins & friends. Cec was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Leland Mulneaux. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Pastor James Parks will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Walker Cemetery in Walker at 2:30pm on Wednesday. Memorial are for the St. Paul United Methodist Church or donors choice. Cec's family would like to thank the staff and residents at Rose Haven for their friendship & care that made Cec's life meaningful & dignified during the last few years. Your attention and service was outstanding & brought great comfort to Cec & her family. A gracious thank you to Pastor’s James and Helen for their kind visits, loving thoughts and special prayers.

Gretchen Irene White, age 89, died following a brief illness at her home in North English on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English with Pastor Edwin Jordan officiating.. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 PM to 8 PM on Monday, February 25, 2008. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. She is survived by a son Mark White Janelle) of Rosedale, IN; 4 grandchildren: Eric White, Ryan White, Chrissie (Mrs. Kevin Walker) and Jeanette (Mrs. Colin Gabhart). She was preceded by her parents, husband in December 2006 and brothers Eugene and Lawrence Floyd. Gretchen Irene White was born icon on Match 1, 1918 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Louis and Loretta Dorothy Alwine Floyd. She grew up in Iowa City and graduated from University High School. Gretchen worked several years at Economy Advertising Company in Iowa City. On October 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to Elbert Allen White. They made their home in North English where Gretchen served many years on the North English Library Board. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church where she was a Deaconess, Church Secretary and a Sunday School Teacher. She lived 89 years, 11 months and 23 days.

North English- Carolyn Julia Jones, was born icon January 19, 1920, near Conroy, Iowa, a daughter of Julius and Blanche Olson. She grew up in the Conroy community and graduated from Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy. On July 11, 1942, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Jones, in Kirksville, MO. They made their home in Williamsburg for a short time. In 1947, they moved to North English where they lived for many years. Carolyn moved to Highland Ridge Retirement Community in 2004. In December 2007 she became a member of the Highland Ridge Care Center. She attended the United Methodist Church in North English. She was very active in the Iowa County Association for Retarded Children, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and North English VFW Auxiliary for many years. Carolyn died on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, after an extended illness. She lived 88 years, 1 month and 2 days. She is survived by a daughter Carol (Newton) Standridge of Norwalk, Iowa; a son Duane Jones of Williamsburg. 2 grandsons: Steven and Michael Standridge; 3 sisters: Maxine Ahrens of Conroy; Jean Davis of New Sharon and Muriel Germony of Williamsville, NY; a sister-in-law Shirley Meade of Parnell; and her best friend June Caskey of North English. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers: Forrest Olson and an infant Duane Olson; and 2 sisters: Doris Fetzer and Phyllis Olson. Celebration of Life service will be Noon on Wednesday, February 27, 20089 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Pastor Ben Wilson will officiate. Private family burial will be at the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be form 4-7 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg and from 10:00 am until service time on Wednesday at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Memorials will benefit R.E.A. in Conroy and for Systems Unlimited.

KEOTA - Alva Baker, age 87, of Keota, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Halcyon House in Washington, following a brief illness. Alva was born icon August 29, 1921, in Clear Creek Township, Keokuk County, Iowa, the only son of Peter and Ursula (Redlinger) Baker. He attended Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic school. His father died when he was nine years old. At the young age of 16 he began farming the family farm and continued for 50 years. Alva was an avid conservationist, always finding new ways to conserve the land. He built the first field terraces in Clear Creek Township with a tractor and loader and two bottom plow. The terraces are still being used today on this Century Farm cared for by the Baker family since 1876. Alva received the District Soil Conservation Award in 1958 and again in 1991. On November 27, 1946, Alva married icon Isabelle Hammes at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in rural Harper, Iowa. Alva was a life long member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church where he volunteered much work, served on the Parish Council three terms, serving as president two terms, worked on various committees and was caretaker of the Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery where through his efforts many improvements were made to the present cemetery grounds. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Alva was a loving husband, father and grandfather, the light of our lives and the love of our hearts. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife of 62 years, Isabelle, and their four children: Robert and wife Marcia of Leesburg, Virginia, Richard and wife Barbara of Keota, Thomas and wife Donna of Richland, and Brenda Vittetoe and husband Robert of Washington; son-in-law: Marlin Greiner of Keota; 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Bonnie Greiner and great grandson: Kolten Kingsbury. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Clear Creek Township. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 5:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery Fund. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Alva and his family.

Margaret Ann Scott was born icon October 14, 1933 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of J. Homer and Myrtle (Booth) Vincent. She attended Bunker Hill rural school, Graduated from Wellman High School in 1952 and Iowa State in 1956 with a degree in Home Economics. In 1953 she was baptized at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman. She was a member of the United Christian and Baptist Church in Kalona. On September 7, 1968 she was united in marriage to Richard Scott at the United Christian and Baptist Church in Kalona. Margaret worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for nearly 30 years as a Clinical Dietitian before retiring in 1997. Margaret served as a Director and Vice President of the Wellman Coop Telephone, Washington County 4-H Committee, and the Mid-Prairie Council of Churches. She was a member of the Friendship Force and Barn Quilts of Washington County. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, volunteering and spending time with her family. Margaret died on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a brief illness at the age of 75 years. Margaret is survived by a daughter - Elizabeth Hess of Washington; a son - Michael Scott and wife Kathleen of Westgate; grandchildren - Jayme and Sara Hess of Orange City; Jason Hess of Washington; Jacob, Rachel, John, Mary, Benjamin, Naomi, Adam and Hannah Scott of Westgate; and a brother Gene Vincent and wife Arlene of Bettendorf. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, a brother John Vincent, a sister-in-law Shirley Vincent, and a nephew Brian Vincent.

Harriet V. Fry was born icon October 2, 1923 in Eagle Grove, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Ada Hillis. She graduated from Kalona High School and Parson’s College. On August 24, 1957 she was united in marriage to George E. Fry in Kalona. She taught rural country school, worked for Kent Studio in Iowa City, and was the secretary at the Mid-Prairie Junior High School for 19 years. Harriet was a member of the United Christian and Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing golf, cards and spending quality time with her family in her spare time. Harriet died on Saturday December 20, 2008, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona after a lengthy illness at the age of 85 years. She is survived by her husband George of Kalona; 2 daughters- Connie (Bob) Andersen of Pella and Tracy (Kenton) Jones of Parnell; 5 grandchildren- Erin, Jenna, Sara, Kyle and Trent; 4 great grandchildren- Jayme, Lucas, Clara and Chloe. She was preceded in death by her parents.

SIGOURNEY - Eva Luella Hankins was born icon on October 29, 1909, in Deep River, Iowa, a daughter of Thomas Edward and Dora Ellen (Barber) Molyneux. She was united in marriage to Joseph Calvin Hankins. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Affton, Missouri, where she sang in the choir and played the organ and piano when needed. She was a musician, song and music composer, chorus line director, choir singer, dance choreographer, pantominist and entertainer. She entertained for church groups, lodges, senior citizen groups and others. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years. She enjoyed music and square dancing. Eva died on Friday, December 26, 2008, at the Sigourney Care Center in Sigourney, Iowa, at the age of 99 years. She is survived by 2 nieces- Phyllis Fowler of Delta, IA and Carol Sauer of Sigourney; 2 nephews- Gary Moore of Arizona and Dale Trier; and many great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, a brother Freddie Molyneux; 3 sisters Mildred McNabb, Emmaline Trier and Dorothy Molyneux; 2 half brothers Elise Molyneux and Charles Molyneux. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Sixteenth Cemetery, near Thornburg. Rev. Frances Baumert will officiate. There will be no visitation. Reynolds- Powell Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established for the Sigourney Care Center.
