William Lyle Wade, 93 of Wellman Iowa died at Parkview Manor, Wellman on Friday, August 25, 2006 from complications of age. Mr. Wade was born icon June 4, 1913 in rural Iowa County near Wellman, Iowa the son of William John and Bertha L. Tracy Wade. He grew up in rural Wellman and married icon Mildred I. Cover on June 4, 1936 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. He lived all his in the Wellman community. He attended Mid-Prairie rural school and graduated from Wellman High School in 1931. He taught school at Mid-Prairie Rural School four years and one year at Green Valley. Mr. Wade then joined his father as owner and operator of Wade & Co. Inc. in 1938. He continued in the business until 1983, first with his father and then from 1966 with his son, Jon as an International Harvester and Pontiac Dealer. He also had a farming operation, Wade Ranch, north of West Chester, Iowa. He served as Mayor of Wellman for twelve years. During his terms the city-owned natural gas system was built, the city hall, library and fire station among other projects. He also served on the Mid-Prairie School Board for ten years during the formation of this consolidated school system. He was a fifty-year Rotary member, Dayton Lodge #149, KAABA Shrine and member of the Wellman Asbury Methodist Church. Mr. Wade is survived by his wife Mildred of 70 years, daughter Lyla Lee Walder and husband Ralph of Cissna Park, Illinois and son Jon Dennis Wade and wife Donna of Wellman, four grandchildren; Jennifer Marie Wade Nicholson, Wellman, Corey Jon Wade, VanMeter, IA, Andrew Leon Wade, West Chester and April Lee Walder, Sachse, TX; six great-grandchildren: Derek Jon Nicholson, Tyler Scott Nicholson, Brandon Jon Wade, Hunter Browning Wade Walder, Ella Marie Wade, and Joshua Andrew Nicholson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lynn, Olin, Elwin, Duane, and sister Wilna.

A memorial fund has been established for Wellman Fire Department, WellmanVolunteer Ambulance, and Parkview Manor.

Juanita Jones

Juanita Mae Jones was born icon February 3, 1922 in Hillsboro, Iowa, the daughter of Rev. James B. and Goldia E. (Cox) Pritchard. As a youth she lived in a number of different commuitees due to her father being a minister. Juanita graduated from Melcher High School in 1939. She moved to Williamsburg in 1943 where she worked for Witte’s Department Store, Star Drug and later the Me Too Store. Juanita was united in marriage to Owen R. Jones on August 28, 1950 in Missouri. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Williamsburg. Juanita help Owen on the farm while raising their eight children. She was active in 4-H and church. She also worked next to Owen on the Heritage Books that were written. Juanita was a member of the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church rural North English. Juanita died Sunday April 19, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 87 years. Celebration of life service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church rural North English. Pastor Edwin Jordan will officiate. The family will greet friends from 3:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Pilot Grove Cemetery. Memorials are for the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church building fund or Iowa County 4-H Foundation. Juanita is survived by her husband: Owen Jones; 8 children which all live within 8 miles of the family farm: Jane Jones, Don (Sharon) Jones, Richard (Deb) Jones, Roger (Dianne) Jones, Larry (Kris) Jones all of Williamsburg, Kenny Jones of Parnell, Russell (Joan) Jones and Barb (Kevin) Carte all of Williamsburg; 14 grandchildren: Shaun (Brianne) Roberts, Cory Jones, Justin (Amber) Jones, Chad Jones, Amber Roberts (Chad Helmrichs), Andy Jones, Phillip Jones, Kevin(Laurie) Jones, Brandon Carte, Bradley Carte, Emily Jones, Kimberly Jones, Skyler Jones and Amber Rhade and 8 great grandchildren: Michael Castorf, Livia Roberts, Levi Roberts, Avary Helmrichs, Christopher Jones, Curtis Jones, Reese Jones and Salina Jones She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Ruth Pritchard.

Joseph M. Miller

Joseph M. Miller was born icon June 11, 1922 in Thomas, Oklahoma, the son of Mose F. and Fannie Miller. He was baptized in his youth and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He was united in marriage to Fannie Mast on February 19, 1959. Joe died Friday, April 17, 2009 at his home in Kalona at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 6 days. He is survived by two sister-in-laws: Mrs. Lizzie Ann Miller and Mrs. Cornelius Miller; three brother-in-laws: Wm. Mast, Sam Mast and Eli Mast, many nieces and nephews and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fannie, all his brothers and sisters: John, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Annie, Noah, an infant brother and Cornelius. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Rudy Borntrager Residence at 1213 Orange Ave in rural Kalona. Minister in charge is Paul T. Miller. Burial will be in the Peter Miller Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Borntrager Residence. The Yoder-Powell Funeral in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.

Paul D. Miller was born icon July 6, 1927 in Kokomo, Indiana the son of Dan H. and Katie (Miller) Miller. On August 15, 1948 he was united in marriage to Grace Miller at the Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. They have lived in the Kalona community since their marriage where Paul farmed until 1962, and worked for Hershberger Feed from 1961-1994. Paul was a member of the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church where he held many church offices and sang at many services. He served on the boards of Iowa Mennonite School, Pleasantview Home, Crooked Creek Christian Camp, Crowded Closet and the MCC Sale. He volunteered with Mennonite Disaster Services and enjoyed playing golf. Paul died on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness at the age of 81 years. Paul is survived by his wife Grace of Kalona; four children Karen Albrecht (Robert) of Eureka, IL.; Janice Godshall (Ken) of Lancaster, PA.; Merlin Miller (Monica) of Kalona; Kenneth Miller (Bev) of Harleysville, PA.; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and six siblings - Anna Brenneman of Stuarts Draft, VA.; Henry D. Miller of Wellman; Levi D. Miller of London, OH.; Edwin D. Miller of Kalona; Daniel Miller, Jr of Boerne, TX; and Martha Shawver of Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday April 26, 2009 at the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church in Kalona. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Saturday at the church, the family will be present from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established for Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church and Mennonite Disaster Service.

Glen Everett Beachy was born icon May 30, 1918 near Kalona, Iowa the son of Ananias and Ella Beachy. In his youth he accepted Christ and became a member of the Old Order Amish Church in which he was ordained a minister on April 17, 1981 and remained faithful until death. He was united in marriage to Susan Mae Yoder on January 2, 1947. Glen died on Monday, April 27, 2009 at his home in rural Kalona at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 28 days. He is survived by his wife Susan and 5 sons and 4 daughters. Ruth at home; Roy and wife Elizabeth Ann; Alta, Mrs Enos Miller; Paul and wife Rose Mary; Anna Mae, Mrs Clayton Borntrager; Joe and wife Salina; Timothy and wife Priscilla; Mary, Mrs Amos Borkholder; Alvin and wife Kathryn, all of Kalona; 63 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 brothers Earl and Joe of Kalona; Jessie of Gladys, VA; 3 sisters Fannie, Mrs Eli C. Miller of Sarasota, FL; Mary, Mrs David L. Miller of Partridge, KS; Esther, Mrs Henry Zook of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandchildren; a great grandchild; and 3 brothers Ray, John and Jonas. The family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown them at the time of his illness and death. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Alvin Beachy residence at 2270 105th St. in rural Kalona. Minister in charge is Paul T. Miller. Burial will be in the Peter Miller Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Alvin Beachy residence and will continue all day on Wednesday. KEOTA - Ryan Detweiler, age 24, of Keota, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, the result of an automobile accident. Ryan was born icon August 4, 1984, in Iowa City, to Dennis and Cindy (Sheets) Detweiler and graduated from Keota High School in 2003. On January 24, 2009, he married icon Katie Peck at the United Church of Faith in Keota. A lifelong resident of Keota, Ryan worked for One Brother Construction. He was a member of the Lone Tree Garden Tractor Pullers Association. “The Shop” was his home away from home, where he spent many hours working on pulling tractors and visiting with his friends. Ryan especially enjoyed his children and Dodge trucks. Survivors include his wife: Katie; two children: Dakota and Lexus; mother: Cindy Detweiler; grandparents: Merlyn and Mary Ellen Detweiler and Dianna Sheets, all of Keota; several aunts, uncles, cousins and best friend: Brian Lewis. He was preceded in death by his father: Dennis Detweiler and grandfather: Joel Sheets. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A memorial fund has been established for his children, Dakota and Lexus. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Ryan and his family.

SIGOURNEY - Betty Lou Ingle, was born icon August 18, 1926, in Plank Township, near Sigourney, Iowa, a daughter of John LeRoy and Addie L. (Spiess) Kerkove. She attended the Carter Country School, near Ollie. On February 21, 1948, she was united in marriage to Philip Jackson Ingle. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, baby sitting her grandkids, watching the Chicago Cubs and spending time with her beloved dog “Fluffer”. Betty died on Monday, May 4, 2009, at her home in Sigourney, at the age of 82 years. Betty is survived by three sons: Gary of Iowa City, Gerald (Jan) of Albany, OR and Gregg of Delta; two daughters: Marilyn Ingle and Twila (Jim) Carter all of Sigourney; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 6 brothers: Harold Kerkove, Richard (Ann) Kerkove all of Sigourney, Pete (Joan) Kerkove of Anaheim, CA; Raymond (Karen) Kerkove of Brigham City, UT, Frances Kerkove of San Antonio, TX and Donald (Nancy) Kerkove of Hemet, CA; 3 sisters: Kathleen Bailey of Omaha, NE, Mary Jane (Bill) Kerber of Sigourney and Carolyn (Glenn) Irwin of Tuscon, AZ; a sister-in-law Fern Kerkove of Sigourney; and one brother-in-law Paul Hicks of Long Beach, MS; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack; a brother James Kerkove; a sister Marlene Hicks; 5 brothers-in-law; 5 sisters-in-law; a grandson Wade Leon Carter; and a granddaughter Tiffany Lynn Ingle. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 am on Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. Pastor John Hembry will officiate. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery, near Ollie. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time on Friday. A general memorial fund has been established.

Elizabeth L. (Betty Lou) Geiger Marnette

Elizabeth L. (Betty Lou) Geiger Marnette was born icon in North English, Iowa, on February 6, 1921, the daughter of Ulysses and Mary Dorothy Kueneman Geiger. She was the first female graduate of the University of Minnesota’s Medical Technician’s program. She was a founding force behind the Sacramento Blood Bank and was an honorary life member of the California Blood Bank System. She served as its president from 1974-1975 and in 1980 received the CBBS Owen Thomas Memorial Award. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Blood Banks. She was a member of Sodality of the B.V.M. She was a long-time member of the Sacramento branch of the American Association of University Women. For many years, Betty Lou was an avid softball player. After her husband’s death, Betty was a frequent volunteer at Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary. She died on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in Sacramento, CA. She is survived by her niece Susan Geiger-Schragge (Bryan), and grand-niece, Rebecca Schragge. Other survivors are sisters-in-law Patricia Jones (Philip), Francis Stewart (Jimmie L.), Catherine Goodrich, Mary W. Boger (Donald) and brother-in-law Joel Marnette as well as many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and a great-grand nephew in her late husbands family. She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Franklin Howard Marnette. A funeral service will be held in the East Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 43rd and Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA, on Sunday, May 10th, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., Bishop Francis Quinn officiating. A graveside service will take place in the North English Cemetery, North English, Iowa at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2009. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary, 701 56th Street, Sacramento, 95819 or the charity of your choice. Powell Funeral Home, North English, is in charge of local arrangements.

SIGOURNEY - William R. “Bill” Carter, age 81, of Sigourney, passed away at home on May 10, 2009. Bill was born icon October 24, 1927, in Hedrick, Iowa, to Tom and Dora Schimmelpfennig Carter. He married icon Patricia E. Baird on June 17, 1949. Bill farmed for five years near Hedrick, was then employed by the railroad, worked on a turkey farm, picked up milk, worked for the City of Sigourney, worked construction for Iowa Culvert Builders, and finally was a mechanic for John Deere, where he retired. After he retired he worked for himself and mowed cemeteries. He enjoyed hunting, boating, camping, fishing, and especially watching his grandchildren grow up. Survivors include his wife, Pat, of Sigourney; his children: Sherry (Ron) Kerr and Cindy (Bob) Shifflett of Sigourney, Craig Carter of Wymore, Nebraska, Carmen (Robert) Bell of Prospect, Ohio and Colette (Scott) Edmundson of Keswick; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a sister, Mary (Pete) Baird of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Justin Dwayne Miller. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Rev. John Hembry officiating. Burial will be at Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the American Lung Association. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Bill and his family.
