Cindy Jo Peiffer was born icon March 7, 1963 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Gary and Johnette (Durst) Peiffer. She graduated from Keota High School in 1981. She graduated from Kirkwood Community College. She was currently living in Tempe, Arizona where she worked as a personal assistant. Cindy died suddenly on Monday, November 22, 2010 in Tempe, Arizona at the age of 47 years. Cindy is survived by two daughters – Teryn Waechter of Coralville and Kylie Stoltenberg of Tempe, AZ ; her mother – Johnette Criss of Coralville; her father -- Gary Peiffer (Donna Ulferts) of Wellman; a brother – Russ Peiffer (Theresa) of Gurnee, IL; and four sisters – Janet Deehring of Tempe, AZ, Deb Roush of Washington, Shelli Hahn of Shawano, WI, and Pam Peiffer (Larry Redlinger) of Kalona. She had several loving nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Rev. Rich Adam will officiate. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the Funeral Home.

KEOTA - Kenneth V. Jaeger, age 81, of Keota, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the Washington County Hospital, following a sudden illness. Kenny was born icon August 4, 1924, near Harper, to Ambrose and Rose (Greiner) Jaeger and graduated from Keota High School. On October 1, 1946, he married icon Genevieve Peiffer in Keota. The couple lived and farmed in the Keota community for 50 years, retiring in 1989. Kenny was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and the Knights of Columbus for many years. Survivors include his wife: Genny of Keota; eight children: Linda Lillig of Omaha, Nebraska, Karyl Miller and husband Del of West Branch, Cynthia Partridge and husband Steven of Norwalk, Colleen Robertson and husband Kim of Dunlap, Illinois, Douglas Jaeger of Keota, David Jaeger and wife Barbara of Keota and Jerome Jaeger and wife Katherine of South English; daughter-in-law: Becky Jaeger of Fairfield; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and four sisters: Loretta Jensen of Marion, Theresa Kelly of Centerville, Marianne Rayner of New London and JoAnn Colbert of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Ambrose Jaeger, son-in-law: Michael Lillig and one sister: Elizabeth Reed. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2006, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a rosary/prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for American Diabetes Association or Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.

Katie Borntreger (98) passed away on April 25, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Katherine J. “Katie” Borntreger was born icon September 28, 1912, in Reno County Kansas, the daughter of Joseph M. and Lydia (Hochstetler) Schrock. She was married icon to Jacob Y. Borntreger on January 28, 1940, in Buchanan County, Iowa. The family moved to Missouri, then to Kalona, Iowa in 1959. Katie was a resident at the Kalona Valley Apartments from 1983 through late 2009. Katie accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized. She was a charter member of the Full Gospel Revival Center in Kalona. Katie was a dedicated woman of God enjoying the simple things in life and helping others. She had a song for every occasion and was very bold in her witness for Christ, faithfully living by her convictions. Katie is survived by six children and spouses: Jonas and Marlene Borntreger of Oxford, Iowa, Lydia and Russell Chorpening of Shell Lake, Wisconsin, Joe and Esther Borntreger of El Paso, Texas, Sarah and Anthony Yoder of Kalona, Iowa, Amos and Mary Borntreger of Sarasota, Florida and Malinda and Richard Meeks of Mountain Home, Arkansas; 26 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Lydia (Mrs. Noah J.) Gingerich and Lizzie, (Mrs. Levi N.) Hochstetler of Clark, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter Barbara, a great granddaughter Britton, 4 brothers and a sister. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Kalona Mennonite Church. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in the South Gingerich Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held Thursday from12:00 - 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home, Kalona, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established for Paloma Ministries (Katie’s son Joe, missionary to Mexico), or Pleasantview Home. The family extends their sincere gratitude for the prayers and many acts of kindness and sympathy shown them during this time of loss.

Williamsburg – Ronald David Madoerin was born icon December 6, 1948 in Williamsburg, the son of Erich and Stella Esther (Bertschi) Madoerin. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1967, he also graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 1969. Ron has worked for Rockwell Collins in Coralville for 15 years. Ron enjoyed collecting key chains, watching the Hawkeyes, NASCAR and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Ron died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 62 years. He is survived by his mother: Esther of Williamsburg; three sisters: Carol (Ernie) Rigel of Cedar Rapids, Sandra Myers of Aurora CO and Nancy (Jerry) Weldon of Parnell and a brother: Kevin (Delora) Madoerin of Williamsburg and a number of nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his father in 2001 and a brother Albert in infancy. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 10:30 Monday, May 2, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Memorials are for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lutheran Interparish School or Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines.

Edwin E. Frederick, age 86, died on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the South English Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Edwin Earl Frederick was born icon on September 15, 1924, the son of Clarence L. And Lillian Miller Frederick. He grew up in the Tipton community, graduating from Tipton High School and Tipton Junior College. Edwin served in the US Navy during World war II. He was united in marriage to Betty Louise Hearn on January 8, 1950, in Tipton, Iowa. They lived in Mechanicsville, Kinross and North English before moving to the farm near South English, where he has resided for the past 51 years. Edwin worked a few years at Amana Refrigeration and at Smitty’s Feeds in Kinross. He farmed most of his life. He liked reading and keeping up with current events, watching wildlife, taking the bank trips (once Betty convinced him to go), and he loved being around his grandchildren. Betty passed away on May 12, 2008. Edwin is survived by a daughter Brenda (Johnny) Peppers of Blue Springs, MO; 6 sons: Fritz (Del) Frederick of North English, Steve Frederick of South English, Craig (Becky) Frederick of Keota, Marlin (Jan) Frederick of Webster, Raymond Frederick of South English, and Brent Frederick (LeAnn) of Williamsburg; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters Odette Williams of Cedar Rapids and Norma Livezy of Petersburg, IL; and brothers Ellis "Tiny" Frederick of North English and James Frederick of Springville. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, a daughter-in-law Amy Frederick, brothers Arnold, Gale, Donald & Clarence Frederick Jr. and a sister Darlene Zenisek.

Williamsburg - Phyllis Snoddy Jellings, was born icon November 28, 1917, on a farm near Williamsburg, IA. She was the daughter of Charles Otto Romberg and Sarah Elizabeth Brawner Romberg. At the age of 8, the family moved to a farm near Kinross where she graduated from High School in 1935. After attending Iowa Success Business School in Ottumwa, she was employed as a book-keeper in Pulaski, IA. until moving to Washington D. C. in 1939. Here she worked for the Merchant Marine Department until her marriage to Jack Snoddy on September 18, 1943 in Lake Charles, LA. Jack was serving in the Army Air Corps. After his discharge in 1946, the family lived Cedar Rapids, IA. until moving to Williamsburg in 1949. Here she worked at Farmer’s Trust and Savings Bank for nearly 20 years, retiring in November 1983. Jack passed away May 4, 1993. Phyllis later married icon Donald L. Jellings on August 15, 2000, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA and then made their home in Oelwein, IA. Don passed away August 18, 2005. Phyllis then moved back to Williamsburg. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Williamsburg, the United Methodist Women’s Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed music of any kind, playing cards, crossword puzzles and traveling. Phyllis died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals after a short illness, at the age of 93. In her passing, she leaves two daughters, Joan (Gary) Keiser of Williamsburg, IA and Jill (Carl) Wycoff of Neveda, IA, stepson, Jerry (Mary) Jellings of Oelwein, IA. and stepdaughter Jill (Steve) Lueken of Colesburg, IA. Also seven grandchildren; Brian Keiser of Atlanta, GA., Shelly (Joe) Westfall of Williamsburg, IA. Douglas (Brenda) Keiser of Bentonville, AR., Jennifer (Michael) Sibley of Garnett, KS., Christopher (Melissa) Folkmann of Memphis, TN., Makenzie (Rob) Patterson of Boone, IA., and Joshua Wycoff of Nevada, IA., five step grandchildren; Jennifer (Doug) Myers of Belleville, WI., Julie (Jason) Brinkman of Cedar Falls, IA., Joel Jellings of West Des Moines, IA., Dakota Lueken of Ames, IA., Hunter Lueken of Colesburg, IA., nine great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, one brother, Delbert (Helen) Romberg of Ocala, FL., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Snoddy, second husband Don Jellings, her parents, one brother and three sisters. Her greatest love was her family and of friends whom were many. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 5, 2011, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg. Pastor James Parks will officiate. Burial will be in the Pilot Grove Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4-7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg.

Vivian Arlene Parsons was born icon on June 2, 1945, in Washington, IA, the daughter of Lawrence and Thelma Perrin Hudson. She grew up in the Wellman and North English areas and attended school in North English, Kinross and West Chester. She obtained her GED from Kirkwood College. Arlene lived 12 years in Alaska. She worked as a CNA with Home Health Care and at the University of Iowa Hospitals. On September 8, 1984, Arlene married icon Glenn Parsons in Ollie, IA. They made their home in Wellman, West Chester, and in Oklahoma before moving to What Cheer in 2006. Arlene is survived by her husband Glenn of What Cheer; nine children: Glenda (Steve) Mason of Luther, OK; Lonita (Robert) Maarel of Waynesville, MO; Deb Bird of New Sharon, IA; Jim (Catherine) Hiller of Fairbanks, AK; Angela (Ben) Saddler of Sedalia, MO; Tracey Hiller of Wellman, IA; Annette (Tony) Price of Anchorage, AK; Christina (Thomas) Raymond of Sedalia, MO; and Jeff Hiller of Fairbanks, AK; 30 grandchidren; 32 great grandchildren; a sister Maxine Stagner of Columbus Junction, IA; brothers Vernon (Dick) Hudson of South English, IA; Gerald Hudson of Stevensville, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ray, Tom and Gene Hudson.

Velma Grace Cozart Threlkeld was born icon March 18, 1925 in Olin, Iowa the daughter of Clarence Albert and Emma Olive (Sweitzer) Cozart. She graduated from Olin High School in 1943. She worked at a grocery store in Oskaloosa where she met Melvyn Lealdes Threlkeld, they were united in marriage on July 25, 1950. They farmed in Mahaska and Iowa counties. She has lived in rural Wellman since 1966. Velma worked at Oral B for twenty years retiring in 1987. She then worked part-time at various jobs. Velma died suddenly on Friday, May 13, 2011 at her home in rural Wellman at the age of 86 years. Velma is survived by three daughters - Barbara Threlkeld of Iowa City; Laurie Clayton of Spokane, WA; Virginia Threlkeld Larsen of Hedrick; two son’s - Danny Threlkeld of Wellman; Richard Threlkeld of Iowa City; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister Helen Lund of Clarence. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son Kenneth; four brothers - Harold, Lester, Herbert and Harlan Cozart; and a sister Norma Kofron. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Pastor Martha Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the Forrest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home. A general memorial fund has been established.

Gordon Dean Schlabaugh, was born icon August 18, 1934, near Wellman, Iowa, the son of Sam and Nettie Yoder Schlabaugh. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1953. On October 22, 1955 he was united in marriage Lois Horrisberger in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. He has lived and farmed in the Wellman area all his life. Gordon was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church. He loved animals, gardening, cars and reading. Gordon died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Parkview Manor, Wellman, at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his wife Lois of Wellman; 4 sons- Daryl (Charity) Schlabaugh of Iowa City, Lee Schlabaugh, Jim (Beth) Schlabaugh and Neil (Anne) Schlabaugh all of Wellman; 5 grandchildren Stephanie Schlabaugh, Austin Schlabaugh, Jared Schlabaugh, Jack DeRycke and Lance Gordon Schlabaugh; 2 sisters-in-law: Madena Schlabaugh and Laurine Schlabaugh both of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Eldon and Don and an infant sister Gladys. Celebration of Life Service will be held, 10:30 AM Friday, May 20, 2011, at the West Union Mennonite Church, rural Parnell. Pastor Martha Yoder and Pastor Ray Reimer will officiate. Burial will be in the West Union Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established.
