Ruth Lucille Mohr, was born icon October 30, 1924, in Williamsburg, Iowa, daughter of Alfred and Lillie (Brockshus) Newkirk. Ruth was united in marriage to Virgil O. Mohr on October 2 1943, in Orange County, California. The couple made their home east of Williamsburg where they farmed all of their lives. Ruth enjoyed playing cards, baking and spending time with friends. She made quilts for the Lutheran World Relief and volunteered at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Ruth died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 86 years. She is survived by a daughter Susan Collier and husband Justin of Newton, Iowa and Sandra Moore and husband Robert of Waukee, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a brother: Richard Newkirk and wife Ethel of Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. Rev. Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for Lutheran Interparish School.

Luanna Bertha Heitshusen was born icon February 20, 1926 in Lowden, Iowa, the daughter of William H. and Bertha Dorthea Wiebel Sessler. She was baptized and confirmed by Pastor Herman Maas. Luanna graduated from Lowden High School in 1943. On July 11, 1948, she married icon Clifford Henry Heitshusen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. She grew up in the Lowden community. After being married, they lived and farmed in South Amana for 63 years. Luanna was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel Ladies Aide, Iowa County Republican Women and an active volunteer. She enjoyed walking, playing cards, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Luanna died peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, at the age of 85 years. She is survived by her husband Clifford of South Amana; a daughter Arlys (Bruce) Doehrmann of Williamsburg; 2 sons: Bruce (Debi) Heitshusen and David (Patti) Heitshusen all of South Amana; 6 grandchildren: Mark (Sandi) Doehrmann of Tampa, FL, Anne (Steve) Faber of Hopkington, IA, Jacob Heitshusen and Hannah Heitshusen both of South Amana, IA, William (Abby) Heitshusen of Laughlin AFB, TX and Brett Heitshusen of Colorado Springs, CO; 4 great grandchildren: Ryan, Nicole, Brianna and Dana Doehrmann all of Tampa, FL; and soon to arrive a great granddaughter to parents William and Abby. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Walter Sessler, a sister Ludora Heitshusen, and an infant brother. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Rev. Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 pm at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for the Lutheran Interparish School or Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamsburg.

KEOTA - Robert M. Flynn, age 89, of Keota, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington. Robert was born icon December 15, 1921, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Michael and Mary Almyra (Taylor) Flynn and graduated from Washington High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for six years. Bob was on ship during the Pearl Harbor attack. He served on several ships, including the USS New Orleans, USS Massachusetts, USS Hampton and USS Winslow. For his service in the American, Asiatic Pacific and European African Areas Bob received the following medals and honors: American Defense Medal and one star; nine stars for Asiatic Pacific service; one star for European African service; World War II Victory and Good Conduct Medals. Bob was discharged on December 16, 1946 as a Gunner’s Mate First Class. On January 27, 1948, Bob married icon Darlene Conrad at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper, bought a farm and spent the rest of his life farming, which he loved. Bob enjoyed running around the house with his grandkids and driving his old blue pickup around the country 15 miles an hour to check the crops. He loved the farm life, working with the land, tiling, bulldozing, playing cards, reading and visiting with people of all ages. Survivors include his wife: Darlene of Keota; seven children: Daniel Flynn of Keota, Linda Greiner of Chariton, Jim Flynn of Harper, Nancy Tutor of Le Claire, Cindy Lebsack of Washington, Janie Odegard of Le Claire and Doug Flynn of Keota; 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Patricia; granddaughter: Hannah Lebsack; sister: Violet Putman and three brothers: Taylor, John and Richard Flynn. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the church, where there will be a wake service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Robert M. Flynn memorial fund. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Bob and his family.

KEOTA - Clement “Jerry” Schwab, age 78, of Keota, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Jerry was born icon May 28, 1932, near Ainsworth, Iowa, to John J. and Zelda (Lane) Schwab and grew up in the Kinross area. Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served until his discharge as a Sergeant First Class in October of 1973. While in the Army Jerry served France, Germany twice, Korea and Vietnam. On October 22, 1955 he married icon Dorothy Ellis in North Liberty, Iowa. Jerry was a member of the Farmers Lodge # 168 in Kinross. Survivors include his wife: Dorothy of Keota; one sister: Dorothy Cowell of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother: Ernest Edwin Schwab of Coralville; an adopted grandson: Michael David Carl; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: John W. Schwab, Donald Albert Schwab and Duane Francis Schwab and two sisters: Pearl Maxine Francis and Rosemary Ann Van Weas. Memorial Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011, at Keota Cemetery, with Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Keota Q.R.S. or the Keota Fire Department. Dorothy Ladine Foubert, age 84, died on Monday, May 23, 2011, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Rev. Michelle Williamson officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 Pm to 7 PM on Wednesday, May 25th. Burial will be in the Piersol Cemetery near North English. A memorial fund has been established for the North English Library. Dorothy Ladine Foubert was born icon on November 23, 1926, on a farm northeast of Kinross, IA, the daughter of Sherman B. And Eunice May Ballard Polton. She grew up in the Kinross community and was a member of the Kinross Christian Church. She graduated from Kinross High School in 1944. Dorothy married icon William Oren Foubert on October 2, 1945 in Ladora, IA. They farmed near North English, where she raised hogs, milked cows and tended her flower garden. Dorothy also worked five years at Casey’s in North English. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Community Club and was involved in family history research for her own family and for other people for many years. Dorothy loved watching sports on TV and mushroom hunting. She and Bill celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1995. Bill preceded her in death in July 1997. Dorothy became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in August 2010, and died there on Monday, May 23, 2011. She is survived by two sons: Jerry Foubert and Randy Foubert, both of North English, IA; Five grandchildren: Tabby, Katie, Amy, Mike and Heather; four great grandchildren: Nathan, Baylee, Ethan and Ella. Also surviving is a brother Stanley (Dottie) Polton of Marengo, IA. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Jean Schwab.

KALONA - Beulah Hochstedler was born icon May 4, 1925 in Uniontown, Ohio, the daughter of Henry A. and Ella (Miller) Hostetler, growing up in the Hartville, Ohio area. She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in Kalona She spent one year in Voluntary Service at the Kansas City Children’s home in Kansas City. On Oct. 5, 1947 in Hartville, Ohio she married icon Henry W. Hochstedler of Kalona. Born to them was Vivian (Mark) Baumhover, of Hills, Leonard (Twila), of Kalona, Merle (Mary), of Turkey, Bill (Susan), of Canada, Dennis, of Kalona, and Myron (deceased). Having grown up on the farm, she developed a love for animals and raised and showed registered dogs for many years. She loved flowers and had many around the farm along with a goldfish pond. She enjoyed quilting and was a Dorcas of her time. She has resided at Pleasant View Nursing Home for the last 18 months. Beulah is survived by her husband, Henry, five of her children, 12 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Also, a sister Lovina of W. Virginia, 2 half sisters, Viola, of Ohio and Mary, of Pennsylvania, 2 half brothers, Melvin of Ohio, Henry, Jr. of Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Myron, in 1967, and a brother, Ervin. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Kalona. Pastors John King, Floyd Yutzy and David L. Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in rural Kalona. A gathering of family and friends to honor Beulah’s life will be held from 1-8 p.m. Saturday at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Sunnyside Church Missions. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.

KALONA - Dennis John Kelso was born icon July 15, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of William and Nila (Galloway) Kelso. He graduated from City High School in Iowa City in 1956 and later graduated from the University of Iowa. On April 19, 1958 he married icon Velma Stubbs, they later divorced. He worked for Shaeffer Pen in Fort Madison, then was Hospital Administrator for the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, he worked at Vel Donna in Kalona from 1973-1975, then returned to the University of Iowa Hospital retiring in 1997. He grew up in Lone Tree, and has lived in New Mexico, Frytown, Iowa City, and has been a resident of Kalona since 2008. Dennis was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Iowa City where he was the choir director for 40 years. He enjoyed gardening and music. He was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan. Dennis died on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 72 years. Dennis is survived by three children - Brian Kelso (Nic) of Kalona; Julie Marshall (Lon) of Kalona; Nancy Kelso of Kansas City, MO; nine grandchildren - Kim Sheppard (Dave); Brandon Ropp; Justin Ropp; Jessica Kelso; Jordyn Kelso; Madeleine Marshall; Olivia Marshall; Sophia Marshall; Titus Weikal; three great grandchildren - Drew Sheppard; Tanna O’Leary; Kendall Sheppard; and two sisters - Mary Lou Bates (Milton) of Oklahoma City, OK; and Jane Kelso of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Dean Kelso. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Chaplain David L. Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for the Church of The Nazarene in Iowa City.

WEST CHESTER - Orlin Daniel Reschly was born icon January 27, 1930 near Crawfordsville, Iowa the son of Harry and Fannie (Conrad) Reschly. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1948 and was Valedictorian of his class. On August 31, 1952 he was united in marriage to Wilda Jean Chorpening at her parents home. He has lived and farmed in the West Chester community since his marriage. He accepted Christ as his Savior in his youth, and has been a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church for 45 years. Orlin died suddenly on Friday, June 10, 2011 at his home. He was 81 years old. Orlin is survived by a son Dan Reschly (Julie) of West Chester; a daughter Rachel Roth (Curtis) of Wellman; six grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters - Elsie Burkholder of Washington; Kathryn Lehman of Winona Lake, IN; and four brothers - Ben Reschly of Goshen, IN; Vernon Reschly of Nowata, OK; Marion Reschly of Crawfordsville; and Ray Reschly of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son Timothy; a great grandson Canaan Reschly; a sister Vera Buchanon; and a brother Willard Reschly. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at the Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. Pastor Bob Hartzler will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Monday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established.
