Carolyne Earl

Carolyne K. "Dirl" Earl, 61, of Davenport, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at her home.

Born Sept. 12, 1940, in Kansas City, Kan., she was the daughter of Oscar and Katherine Gerst Davis. She married Daniel Schneider. She later married John R. "Dick" Earl on Oct. 22, 1974, in Erie, Ill.
She was a member of the Davenport Eagles.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Debbie Guldenpfennig of Orange City, Fla., Lea Ann Schneider of Walcott and Sarah Schneider of Iowa City; four stepdaughters, Deb Earl of Cordova, Ill., Sandy Miller of Sterling, Ill., Michelle Wilcher of Palestine, Texas, and Susan Clark of Clinton; one stepson, Ron Earl of Port Byron, Ill.; one sister, Barbara Powell of Des Moines; five brothers, Calvin "Sonny" Davis of Burlington, and Wayne, Stanley, Steven and Ernie Davis, all of Des Moines; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

The funeral for Mrs. Earl was Sept. 17 at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport.

A memorial has been established.

Edward Klug

Edward R. "Bud" Klug, 78, of Charleston, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.

Born Nov. 24, 1922, in Charleston, he was the son of Richard and Helen Weigard Klug.
Mr. Klug was a farmer and also helped his father with the sawmill. He lived his entire life in the Charleston area.

Survivors include his brother-in-law, Leo Farrell; three nephews; one niece; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson.

The funeral for Mr. Klug will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Bentzinger officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Argyle.

Gladys Wall

Gladys Katherine Pounder Wall, 91, of Burlington, died at 4:35 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 5, 1910, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George and Ethel Hazen Pounder. She married Irvin Wall on Aug. 21, 1943, in Peoria, Ill. He died in December 1957.
Mrs. Wall worked as a housekeeper for local residents.

She was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed cooking and baking.

She is survived by one sister, Margaret Lachman of West Burlington, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

The graveside ash committal service for Mrs. Wall will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery , with Pastor Susan Strandberg officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m. at the Sunnyside Avenue entrance to the cemetery.

John Voorhees

John Jefferson Voorhees, 72, of Mission, Texas, formerly of Elvaston and Carthage, Ill., died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at his home.

Born Feb. 5, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Robert N. and Edna Rayfield Voorhees. He married Jeanne Summers on April 18, 1959. They were married for 13 years.
Mr. Voorhees was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He farmed in the Hancock County area.

He was a member of Hamilton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5256.

Survivors include two sons, James Voorhees of Keokuk and Jeffrey Voorhees of Blanchard; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton, Ill.

The funeral for Mr. Voorhees will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Elvaston City Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Hancock County Diabetes Association.

Nyll Denison

Nyll Denison, 88, of Des Moines, formerly of Carthage, Ill., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at her home. Funeral arrangements are pending at Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines and Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage.

Paula Andersen

Paula Andersen, 50, of Altoona, died of cancer Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Mrs. Andersen was born in Geneseo, Ill., and lived most of her life in the Des Moines area. She married Dave Andersen.
She worked with the Board of Regents and was a postal employee for the past 20 years.

She was a member of St. John and Paul Parish in Altoona. She enjoyed biking and had ridden on RAGBRAI, and also enjoyed gardening, going to yard sales and making quilts for the House of Mercy.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jason Andersen of Des Moines and Joel Andersen of Altoona; her father, Paul Mertens of Mount Pleasant; four brothers, Ed Mertens of Cedar Rapids, Joe and Dick Mertens, both of Mount Pleasant, and Phil Mertens of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Pat Mertens of Cheney, Wash., and Lucy Hummell of Mount Pleasant.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at St. John and Paul Catholic Church in Altoona, where a vigil service will be at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Andersen will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Altoona Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for her church and Children's and Family Services of Iowa.

Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Rice

Daniel William Rice, 53, of Burlington, died at 2:38 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

A graveside committal service for Mr. Rice will be at a time and place to be announced.
Prugh Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Haase

Robert Henry Haase, 77, of Clarksville, Tenn., formerly a longtime resident of Niota, Ill., died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville.

Born Jan. 30, 1924, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Conrad S. and Leah B. Davis Haase. On Feb. 3, 1946, he married Rosalie L. Hamma in Niota. She died June 19, 2000.
Mr. Haase farmed in Appanoose Township for many years.

He was a graduate of Nauvoo High School in Nauvoo, Ill. He was a member of Carthage Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5117 and the current commander of Nauvoo American Legion Post 711. He was a member of Appanoose Faith Presbyterian Church in Niota. He was a World War II Army veteran who served in the European Theater.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth L. Haase of LaHarpe, Ill., and Randall R. Haase of Clarksville; two grandchildren; and one sister, Connie L. Franke of Quincy, Ill.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. Monday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Nauvoo, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Haase will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lamporte Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Appanoose Cemetery in Niota.

Memorials have been established for Appanoose Faith Presbyterian Church, the Dialysis Center at Keokuk Area Hospital and World War II Veterans National Memorial.

Ruth Ihrer

Ruth L. Ihrer, 74, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 3:05 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Nov. 21, 1926, in Burnside, Ill., she was the daughter of Douglas and Leota McImoil Hawley. In June 1948, she married Charles Ihrer in Kahoka, Mo. He died in 1957.
Mrs. Ihrer worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. She later worked for, and retired from, Armor-Dial in Fort Madison. For several years she managed the Verity Room Supper Club in Kahoka.

She was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Lozano of Fort Madison; three sons, Terry Campbell of Siloam Springs, Ark., Charles Ihrer of Avon, Ill., and Michael Ihrer of Davenport; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Stoner of Columbus, Ind., Berniece Simon of Hamilton, Betty Hulse of Willow Springs, N.C., and Naomi Davis of Keokuk; one brother, Bobby D. Hawley of Hamilton; and one brother-in-law.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one infant twin daughter, three brothers, two sisters, one infant brother and one infant sister.

Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. Monday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Ihrer will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lamporte Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Horn officiating. Burial will be in Wythe Congregational Church Cemetery , south of Hamilton.

Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.

Sherry Willson-Lane

Sherry K. Willson-Lane, 62, of Burlington, passed away at 9:35 AM Friday, November 16, 2001, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born October 2, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry and Lois Galvin Fincher.
She married Frank E. Willson in 1957 in Burlington. He died May 8, 1970. She then married Dale H. Lane in 1976 in Reno, NV. They later divorced.

Mrs. Willson-Lane was a 1957 graduate of Burlington High School.

She was a Supervisor for Metromail, now known as Experian Co., in Mount Pleasant for 22 years.

She liked the Denmark Congregational Church.

She enjoyed taking her annual trip to Las Vegas, loved animals, especially dogs. She liked cooking and Christmas time.

Survivors include one son, Dennis (Jackie) Willson of Burlington; one daughter, Sue (Fred) Nielsen of Burlington; several stepsons and one stepdaughter, Sandy Yaunk of Fort Madison; six grandchildren, Heather Haley, Kelly Cochran, Ryan Hassel, Stephanie Nielsen, Denny Willson and Megan Hassel; four great-grandchildren, Logan, Alexis and Jacob Cochran, and Tyler Haley; and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Riddle of Denmark; two nephews, Mike and Nick Riddle; and one loving cousin, Beth Martin.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call after 8:00 AM Monday, November 19, at the Hass Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 PM.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Willson-Lane will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 20, in the Chapel of the Hass Funeral Home, with the Reverend Tyrone C. Henderson of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Homeward Bound Animal Adoption Center.

Stace Klopfenstein

Stace Edward Klopfenstein, 78, of Burlington, died at 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at his residence.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends following Moose rites at 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Klopfenstein will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel. Burial will military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52 and the Marine Corps League will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Grace United Methodist Church and Crossroads Hospice of Southeast Iowa.

Stephen Stagner

Stephen Dean Stagner, 56, of Morrow, Ark., formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, in a Springdale, Ark., hospital. Arrangements are pending at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.
