Williamsburg - Audrey Alberta Petz was born icon April 22, 1924, in Holyrood, KS, the daughter of Raymond and Hulda (Perdue) Smith. On July 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to Edward John Petz in Bowling Green, Missouri. They lived in Kansas, Missouri and moved to Williamsburg in 1942. She was a seamstress for many years. Audrey was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg, and a former member of St. Mary’s Altar & Rosary Society. She cleaned the church for many years and made the baptismal bibs for baptisms. Audrey died on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, at the age of 87 years. She is survived by her children: Duane (Barb) Petz of Iowa City, Lyle (Brenda) Petz of St. Augustine, FL, Annette (Nick) Smith of Frisco, TX, Connie (Bob) Richards of Iowa City, Denny Petz of Davenport, Rick Petz, of Williamsburg, Joe Petz of Williamsburg, Angie (Craig) Cochran of West Branch and Dave Petz of Williamsburg; 32 grandchildren & great grandchildren and a sister Viola Dukes of Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, a son James, 1 grandchild, 2 great grandchildren and a brother. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30AM on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3-7 PM on Friday at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg with a rosary at 3:00 PM. A general memorial fund has been established.

WASHINGTON-William "Bill" George Vincent was born icon in Washington, Iowa on November 13th, 1957 to parents Robert and Esther Kephart Vincent. He was the youngest of four brothers: Charles, Gary, and Mike. Bill was raised on the family farm east of Keota and attended school at Keota. Upon graduation Bill went to Kirkwood Community College and majored in Diesel Mechanics. It was there that he met his wife, and love of his life, Kathy. They were joined in marriage on July 21st, 1983 in Tampa, Florida. Together they had two boys, Brian, and Brandon. Bill was a strong, loving father that raised his boys to become the wonderful men they are today. Bill was a life long Chicago Bears, White Sox and Iowa State Cyclones fan. He also had a love for animals, horses and ponies especially. Bill's family showed at the Iowa State Fair and were known as Vincent Team Hitches. In 1989 Bob, Bill’s father, started the family tradition of winning 1st Place in Team Hitch with their beloved ponies, Babe and Doll. Both Bill and his son, Brian, went on to win with the same ponies in the years following. Bill was always the life of any party and could lighten the mood with his crooked smile and hearty laugh. He worked hard to support his family, primarily as a truck driver, and was a great friend to many. Though his death was sudden and unexpected on Friday, August 5th, 2011, he left behind a strong family with fond memories and love in their hearts. To say Bill was a good man doesn’t even begin to describe it. He will forever be missed. Survivors include his wife: Kathy of Washington; two sons: Brandon and girlfriend Brittany of Ames and Brian and wife Kelsey of Amana; three brothers: Charles of Wellman, Gary of Carlisle and Michael of Keota. He was preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Bill and his family.

Marvin Wesley Doschadis

Marvin Wesley Doschadis born icon November 27, 1918 in Graceville, Minnesota, son of Olga & Ryan Doschadis. Olga passed away when he was 18 months old. Ryan remarried Ethel Kump. Marvin graduated from Browns Valley High School in 1937 and after working with the Civil Conservation Corp, he received a scholarship to Coe College. Marv proudly served his country as an Ensign in the US Navy aboard the USS Caliente in World War II. Marvin graduated from Coe College and was united in marriage to Cecilia Mulneaux on June 7, 1947. Marv taught & coached in Newhall, Graettinger & Hartley Iowa. Teaching and coaching was a treasured this time in his life. In 1958 Marv began working with insurance and moved to Mt. Pleasant. He was an adjuster for IMT Insurance and in 1966 bought the Welsh Insurance Agency in Williamsburg. He was President of the Iowa Mutual Insurance Association in 1987. After retiring from his insurance career, he continued working at the Tanger Bass Store for more than 19 years. Marv was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club (Past President) and the VFW & American Legion (Past Commander). Also, Marv was instrumental in reviving the Little League Program in Williamsburg. Marv & Cec enjoyed traveling to insurance conventions, USS Caliente Ship Reunions and MANY trips to Las Vegas... including a 1997 Vegas trip with all their grandsons. During a very meaningful trip in 2008 to the WWII Memorial in Washington DC, Marv was honored to be in the foursome laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Marv was also honored when asked to present the flag at military funerals and was proud to do this for our veterans. Marv was very involved with the Williamsburg community. As ”Community Person of the Year”, he served as Grand Marshall of the July 4th parade. He enjoyed attending sporting events and encouraged local students. His years in Williamsburg were very treasured by him. Marv loved life with a remarkable spirit, touching many lives along the way. This was his “true way of living”. He always said there was good in everyone if you could just give them a chance. Marv’s devotion to his family was always first & foremost. He did all he could, anytime he could to help and support his family. Marvin is survived by his children: Judy (Dave) Weber of Marion, Janet Doschadis of Anamosa and Mark (DeDe) Doschadis of Pella. Grand children: Matthew (Teisha) Welsh, Scott (Jennifer) Welsh, Ryan (Kim) Doschadis, Barry (Kae) Doschadis & step granddaughter Shannon Rezac. Great grandchildren: Hanna & Amiya Welsh, Raeanne & Emma Welsh, Lauryn & Mallory Doschadis & step great grandchildren Dalton & Logan Rezac. Additional survivors include: Brother & sisters’-in law: Jack(Betty) Doschadis. Sister-in-law: Marlene( Mark) Benest, Nieces and Nephews: Susan Kirk, DeeDee Bonde, David Mulneaux, Scott Doschadis and Rick Doschadis. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cecilia, his parents and his sister Phyllis Raw. Marv always felt blessed and appreciated the people who contributed to his life. The family would like to thank Mercy Hospital( Iowa City), Mercy Services Williamsburg, the Iowa City Hospice group and the Highland Ridge care facility for Marv’s care.

Webster–John M. Greene died Monday, August 15, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 92 years. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Fr. Joseph Roost will preside. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sigourney with military rites. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. There will be a KC rosary at 7:00pm. John was born icon March 7, 1919 near Keswick, Iowa, the son of James J. and Bertha A. (Nilles) Greene. He graduated from Gibson High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Medic from 1942 to 1945. John was united in married icon to Vera V. Bombei on May 14, 1946 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church near Harper. Together the couple farmed north of Keswick. They moved to Valley View Assisted Living in North English in the spring of this year. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards and Dominos, doing crosswords, and telling stories of the war and his childhood days. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Keswick. John is survived by his wife of 65 years Vera of North English; eight children: Carol ( Dennis) Wolff of Oelwein, John R. Greene of Keswick, Gerald (Holly) Greene of Deep River, Joan Braymen of Shawnee, KS, Mary (Dale) Smith of Decorah, Denise (John) Conrad of Rose Hill, Roberta (Dave) Stakland of Fairfield and Judy Greene of Bettendorf; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and two sisters: Margaret Greene and Kathleen Strohman both of West Des Moines; a brother: Richard (Carol) Greene of Williamsport, PA and two sister-in-laws: Theresa Greene of Keswick and Marilyn Greene of St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Anna (Carl) Stites, Jesse (Carroll) McCurdy, Ellen (Howard) Selk and an infant Bertha Greene and his brothers: James, Frank, Roy and an infant Vincent Greene.

A great man died in Sigourney quietly at home on Friday August 19th surrounded by love and family. Harry Richard Baumert, 85, was born icon in Keota on June 29, 1926, to Floyd and Pearl (Brock) Baumert. He attended Keota High School then joined the United States Army, serving in the Philippine Islands of Palawan and other Pacific theaters during WWII. In 1947 he met and married icon Frances Jean Schauf in Wellman. They celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. Harry became a certified auto mechanic working at Bandy's Garage and Gretter Motors in Keota. He moved to Sigourney and opened Baumert’s Garage in 1966 while concurrently working at Natural Gas Pipeline where he retired in 1987. He worked in his garage until earlier this year. Baumert's Garage continues, operated by his sons and grandson. Harry’s life, and the way he lived it, is his legacy to his proud family. He is survived by his wife Frances, sons Ronald and Richard (Christine)Baumert, daughters Cheryl Steffen, Colleen (Darrell) Goldman, Joanne Baumertomalka, Patricia (Peter) Hammes, and Sandra Killin, his grandchildren Jennifer (Dean) Palmer; Krista and Spencer Steffen; Jeremy (Maggie), Jake, and Joseph Goldman; Christopher, Alexander, Benjamin (Brandi), Dillon, Ethan, Pearl, and Lily Hammes; Travis, and Ashley Baumert; and five great-grandchildren. Also welcomed into his home, was his brother-in-law Bob Schauf at age 12 where he lived until he graduated. Gone before; his parents and siblings Paul, Howard, Duane, Norma, Glen, Donald, and Dorothy, and son-in-laws Nick Tomalka, and Karl Steffen Surviving siblings are Margaret Burke, Marilyn Van Fleet, Darlene Streets, Loretta Streigle, Dennis, Larry and Gene Baumert.

Williamsburg formerly of Milton, Iowa- Betty Darlene Meyer, was born icon August 7th 1934, in Marengo to Arnold & Mildred (Taylor) Roberts. She graduated from Marengo High School. On November 20, 1955 she married icon Virgil Meyer in Williamsburg, Together they farmed in the Williamsburg area until 1986, when they moved to Milton, Iowa and continued to farm side by side until Virgil’s death. Betty then worked part-time at the Van Buren Public Health in Keosauqua until March of 2011. Betty loved to farm, work with her flowers, traveling with her friends, but most of all spending time with her family. Betty died on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Colonial Manor, Amana at the age of 76 years. She is survived by her children: Vickie (Gary) Williams, Kurt (Marilyn) Meyer all of Williamsburg, Iowa and Tammy (Doran) Weatherington of Milton, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Jessica (Rick) Wardenburg, Nick & Wes Williams, Amber Smith, Adam (Erin) Meyer, Seth Meyer, Jordan, and Ashley & Abby Weatherington; 6 great grandchildren: Kenady & Madison Wardenburg, Logan & Taygin Williams and Brody & Cole Smith; 2 sisters: Sherry (Bill) Smith of Cedar Rapids and Karen (Lowell) Martin of Marengo and a brother: Larry (Marsha) Roberts of Marengo; 2 sister-in-laws Vera (Delmar) Knock and Joyce (Late Larry) Lortz all of Williamsburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1991, father & mother in law Julius & Freida Meyer, a daughter Debra and a great grandson Hunter Wardenburg. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Friday, July 8, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4-8 PM at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for the Davis County Fair and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Ellen L. Yoder was born icon June 7, 1924, in rural Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Sherman and Emma (Miller) Miller. She attended rural Prairie Dale School. In her youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the East Union Mennonite Church. On October 14, 1944 she was united in marriage to Duane E. Yoder at the East Union Mennonite Church. She has lived in the Kalona community all of her life. In 1954 Ellen and Duane opened Duane’s Feed Service in Kalona, they owned and operated the Kalonial Townhouse restaurant from 1968-1974, and Ellen owned and operated Ellen’s Sewing Center from 1975 - 2006. She was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church and the Kalona Optimist Club. She enjoyed to sew, and she embroidered a quilt for all of her grandchildren when they got married icon and she made a baby quilt for each of her great grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and playing scrabble and card games. Ellen died suddenly on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 87 years. Ellen is survived by seven children - LaVerta Butterbaugh (David) of Kalona; Jerry Yoder (Liz) of Bridgewater, VA; Susan Gingerich (Firman) of Perkasie. PA; Jane Borntrager (Ivan) of Goshen, IN; Miller D. Yoder of Wilton, WI; Verle Yoder (Helen) of Valley Center, CA; Colette Ferguson (Don) of Kalona; 16 grandchildren - Chad Eberly, Corey Eberly, Peter Eberly, Stanley Butterbaugh, Jeremy Yoder, Adam Yoder, Amy Gingerich, Fred Gingerich, Clint Borntrager, Emily Woodring, Sarah Dippen, Andrea Yoder, Eli Yoder, Kevin Cortum, Sean Cortum, Ryan Cortum; 22 great grandchildren; and two sisters Nita Miller (Daniel) of Kalona and Barbara Eichelberger of Hesston, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step mother Ida, her husband, two sons-in-law, a granddaughter-in-law and a sister Ruby Schrock. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Kalona Mennonite Church. Rev. Scott Swartzendruber will officiate. Private family graveside service will be held prior to the service in the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Kalona Mennonite Church and Pleasantview Home.

Williamsburg - Anthony Louis Taylor, was born icon September 9, 1991 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Mark and Melinda Iburg Taylor. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 2010, and was a student at Upper Iowa University, Fayette. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. While in high school he was involved in drama, speech, FFA, golf and football. He enjoyed floating down the river, participating in parades with his friends, riding his golf cart, going to Pancheros and IHOP, and spending time with his family and girlfriend Kirsten. Anthony died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at his home at the age of 19 years. He is survived by his parents: Mark Taylor of Williamsburg and Melinda Taylor of Perry, Missouri; 2 sisters Ashley Taylor of Cedar Rapids and Amanda Taylor of Marengo; his girlfriend Kirsten Burgy of Conroy; and his maternal grandparents Louis & Leora Iburg of Center, Missouri and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jim & Rosemary Taylor; a cousin Marsha Taylor and an uncle Paul Iburg. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Monday, July 18, 2011, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, with Rev. Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Parnell. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. A general memorial fund has been established.

Ruth Neola Bringman

Ruth Neola Bringman was born icon August 26, 1910 in Solon, Iowa the daughter of George and Mary (Kessler) Kent. She graduated from Solon High School in 1929. On February 15, 1932 she was united in marriage to Ralph E. Bringman in Rock Island, Illinois. They made their home in the Wellman community. Ruth worked at Benners Grocery from 1936-1950 and then at Super Value from 1953-1969. She was a member of the Wellman Baptist Church, Rebecca Lodge and the Happy Hour Club. She served on the congregate meal and senior citizen boards. She volunteered at Parkview Manor for several years. Ruth died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 100 years. Ruth is survived by a sister Ann Vittengel of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1976, four brothers - Vernon, Herbert, Lloyd, George; and three sisters - Myrtle, Doris and Clara. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Wellman. Pastor Mark Larson will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Friday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for First Baptist Church and Parkview Manor.
