Williamsburg - Ruby Luella Humphrey was born icon February 5, 1922, in rural North English, Iowa. She was the daughter of Floyd and Edna (Miller) Davis. She attended North English schools and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1940. She lived in Iowa County throughout her lifetime. Ruby married icon Dean Paul Humphrey on February 16, 1941 in Sigourney, Iowa. She helped Dean on the farm, was a cook for Millersburg schools and worked as a one on one coordinator at the Iowa County Care Facility. Ruby was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church, Millersburg, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She was co-founder of the Neighborhood Coffee Club. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, sewing and baking, especially pies. Ruby died on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg, at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her husband Dean of Williamsburg, 2 daughters: Deanna (Ken) Boeke of Mooresville, IN and SuzAnne Boyle of Cedar Rapids; a special niece Nancy Swain of Williamsburg; 15 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law: Kay Davis of Fairfield and Edith Humphrey of North English. She was preceded in death by: her parents; a special nephew David Byram; 2 sisters: Etta Young and Elva Niman; 2 brothers: Mevin Davis and Vaughn Davis (infant); Sons-in-law: Ed Boyle and Lloyd Swain. Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Millersburg United Methodist Church, Millersburg. Burial will be in the Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River. Rev. Michelle Williamson will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Millersburg United Methodist Church.

Gary “Ed” Schauf, 63,of Marietta South Carolina formerly of Wellman, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at St Francis Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. Ed was born icon July 14, 1949 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Velda (Moffit) Schauf. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1968. Mr. Schauf retired from the US Air Force with twenty years of service and also was a retired aircraft mechanic with Lockheed Martin. Ed is survived by his mother Velda of Wellman, he is survived by his partner, Carol Schmidt; two children Brian and Michelle, four sisters, Shirley Debler of Wellman, Myrna Bozarth (Ray) of West Liberty, Mary Van Dyke (Jerry) of Louisville, KY, and Sandra Hahn of West Liberty; and brother, Dennis Schauf of West Liberty. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his siblings, Larry, Bill, Lori and Kenneth Schauf. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Rev. Frances Baumert will officiate. Burial will be held in the Wellman Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for the American Heart Association and Washington County Hospice.

Paula Marie Lampe was born icon October 27, 1954 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Marvin and Adella “Peg” (Evans) Boone. She received her Associates Degree in Business from Kirkwood Community College. On October 26, 1974 she was united in marriage to Dale Lampe in Wellman. She has lived in the Wellman and Keota communities all of her life. She worked at the County Line Mart, and at the Johnson County Planning and Zoning office. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellman. She enjoyed rock hunting and antiques. Paula died on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 57 years old. Paula is survived by her husband Dale of Keota; a daughter Tonya Marie O’Neal (Shay) of Davenport; a son Travis Lampe of North Liberty; two grandchildren Ayden and Alyssa; a sister Connie McKray (Jim) of Riverside; a sister-in-law Mary Boone of Wellman and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Jackie Johnston, and two brothers Alfred “Ole” Boone and Allan “Butch” Boone. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Wellman. Pastor Mark Larson will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman.

Williamsburg - Mildred Dorothea Trimpe, was born icon November 16, 1924, in Deep River Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of William J. and Maria Anna (Burke) Jahlas. On April 26, 1943, she was united in marriage to Paul George Trimpe at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Victor, Iowa. They bought their farm west of Williamsburg in 1947 and lived and farmed there until 1960 when they moved into town. She worked at Shellady’s Grocery for a number of years, the South Amana Bakery for 4 years and Amana Refrigeration as a 2nd class inspector for 16 years, retiring in 1982. Mildred was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, where in the past has been a member of the Women’s Guild, Altar Guild and the Fellowship Club. She enjoyed cooking, camping, quilting, sewing and spending time with her family. Mildred died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at the Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg at the age of 87 years and 11 months. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Paul of Williamsburg; three children: Allen (Carol) Trimpe of Shawnee, Kansas, Sharon (Warren) Pillard of Keokuk, Iowa and Shirley (Rev. Thomas) Brazinsky of Baroda, Michigan; 7 grandchildren: Lisa (Dave) Periolat, Chris Trimpe, Marci (David) Flint, Stephanie (Brent) Range, Carrie (Greg) Helmers, Anne (Eric) Glessner and Timothy Brazinsky; 7 great grandchildren: Jonah, Sydney, Portland, Emma, Thad, Lila and Olivia; 1 brother: LaVerne (Earlene) Jahlas of Victor; and 2 sisters: Marie Trimpe (her twin) of Williamsburg and Esther (Vernon) Sandersfeld of Homestead. She was preceded by her parents and 3 brothers: Harold Jahlas, Raymond Jahlas, William H Jahlas. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Rev. Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 P.M. at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church.

KEOTA - David E. Lyle, age 64, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Keota, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in Perrysburg. David was born icon November 13, 1947, in Washington, Iowa, to Richard and Phyllis (Miller) Lyle. He graduated from Keota High School in 1965 and attended Iowa State University. David served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He had his roots in the soil north of Keota, where he grew up and farmed until 1981. David took his dedicated farm work ethic on the road spending 30 years in the trucking industry. Nearly all of his tenure was spent pulling 110' Triple Trailers for FedEx on the Ohio/Indiana Turnpikes. He took pride in beginning his trucking day at 3:30AM and had never been in an accident throughout his career. Delicious meals and the many years of friendship with Rachel were cherished by David. He also enjoyed old western movies, yard work, and keeping up with the activities of his children and grandchildren. David had a kind heart and was well thought of by those who knew him. As David grew ill with the cancer in his body, he found comfort in the growth of his faith in God. Survivors include three children: Jared (Angela) Lyle of Keota, Heath (Jana) Lyle of Cypress, Texas and Audra Conrad of Urbandale; nine grandchildren: Gabrielle, Ethan, Luke, Sierra, Mariah, Cael, Joseph, Anthony and Jonathan; his mother: Phyllis Lyle of Washington; six siblings: Lila (Arlyn) Midtgaard of Hanlontown, Ron (Christy) Lyle of Mesa, Arizona, Nancy (Ed) Crites of Manassas, Virginia, Trent (Joy) Lyle of Keota, Patty (Bill) Treimer of Hartley, Sarah (Matt) Roegner of Beloit, Wisconsin and a very special friend: Rachel DeFalco of Toledo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father: Richard Lyle; daughter: Jamie Lynn Lyle and infant brother: Kevin Lyle. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Keota Education Foundation Scholarship Fund. Ellen L. Chittick, age 94, died on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. As per her wishes she was cremated. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service im North English with Luke Caster officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 24th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Burial will be in the Piersol Cemetery near North English. A memorial fund has been established for the English Valley Care Center and Iowa Hospice.. Ellen Lenore Chittick was born icon on October 21, 1917 in Iowa County, Iowa, a daughter of Frank and Catherine Hayes Wade. She grew up in the Green Valley community near North English. Ellen married icon Everett E. Chittick on February 11, 1937, at the North English Methodist Church Parsonage. They lived in Iowa and Keokuk Counties eventually ending up in South English. Everett preceded her in death in December, 1997. Ellen became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in July 2008. Ellen is survived by 15 children: LaVonne Brawner of Arroyo Grande, CA; Donna Cross of Cedar Rapids, IA; Rose (Jim) Wilcox of Delta, IA; Sanford Chittick of Williamsburg, IA; Jack Chittick of Garrison, IA; Marlene (John) Frasher of Anamosa, IA; Dale (Darlene) Chittick of Williamsburg, IA; Ruth (Mike) Coulter of Oskaloosa, IA; Stanley (Linda) Chittick of Williamsburg, IA; James Chittick of South English, IA; Kay Trimpe of Williamsburg, IA; Linda (Doug) Martin of Sigourney, IA; Robert Chittick of Williamsburg, IA; Annette (Ed) Yoder of Parnell, IA; Dan (Tina) Chittick of Sigourney, IA; daughters-in-law Maxine Chittick of South English, IA and Lisa Chittick of Ollie, IA; 40 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren: and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Gary and Ronald, grandson Dustin Chittick, brother Carroll Wade, sisters Lucille Cobb and Lavon Wade;.sons-in-law Garry Erie and John Brawner, and daughter-in-law Irmgard Chittick.

Homestead - Glenn Frederick Wolter was born icon October 2, 1931 near Homestead, Iowa, the son of William J. and Rose Johanna (Wichmann) Wolter. He attended St. John Parochial School and graduated from Marengo High School in 1950.Glenn served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. Glenn was united in marriage to LaJune Katherine Nemitz on June 10, 1955 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church-Hanover, near Charter Oak. He farmed near Homestead and worked for the Homestead Implement for 32 years before going to work for the VA Medical Center in Iowa City retiring in 1990. Glenn enjoyed visiting with family and friends especially his grandsons. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring antique farm machinery, especially the Minneapolis Moline Tractors. He was a life long member of the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 in Williamsburg. Glenn had been a resident of the Highland Ridge Care Center where he also enjoyed visiting with friends and staff. Glenn died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 81 years. He is survived by two daughters: Jeanne Welsh of Williamsburg and Patti (David) Heitshusen of South Amana; three grandsons: William (Abby) Heitshusen of Washington D.C., Brett Heitshusen of Colorado and Michael Welsh of Williamsburg; a great granddaughter: Taylor; a sister: Betty (Robert) Roemig of Homestead; a sister-in-law: Mary Wolter of Homestead; a brother-in-law: Edwin (Frances) Nemitz of Charter Oak and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife LaJune in 2008, two brothers: Jerry Wolter and an infant and a son-in-law: William Welsh. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. There will be a VFW Service at 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Homestead, with Military Rites by the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797. Memorials are for the LaJune Wolter Scholarship Fund or the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 in Williamsburg.

KEOTA - Mary Elaine Schulte, age 81, of Keota, died Monday, October 22, 2012, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa. Elaine was born icon March 31, 1931, in Sigourney, to Raynald and Regina (Shannon) Smith and graduated from Sigourney High School. On February 28, 1949, she married icon Robert Schulte at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. The couple lived in the Harper and Keota communities their entire married icon lives, where Elaine worked at the Keota Post Office and Maplewood Manor for many years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Elaine enjoyed her flower gardens, genealogy and being with her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her husband: Robert of Keota; four children: John Schulte of Harper, Lori Schulte of Ottumwa, Dan (Amy) Schulte of Keota and Debra Schulte of Oskaloosa and five grandchildren: Ryan and Lauren Schulte and Abby, Jillian and Jaime Schulte. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter: Jackie Rees. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012, where there will be a wake service at 5:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Wilson Memorial Library or Holy Trinity Parish. SIGOURNEY - Winifred M. Brown, age 94, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at her home. Winifred was born icon July 14, 1918, in rural Ollie, to Raymond E. and Bessie (Clingan) Sheridan. She attended Doggett rural school through eighth grade, graduated from Sigourney High School in 1936 and received her secretary and bookkeeping degree from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines in 1938. On September 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to Calvin Leroy Brown at the Sigourney Christian Church parsonage by Rev. Leo Potter. Winifred was employed as a bookkeeper at Adam’s Plumbing in Des Moines, Barker Poultry Equipment Company in Ottumwa and did two years of clerical work in the Keokuk County Auditor’s office in Sigourney. In 1940, the couple established their home near Martinsburg where they had a poultry buying business for three years. After Leroy returned from the service they moved to the Hayesville area and the poultry business. In 1948 they moved to a farm near Lancaster and established Brown Feed and Supply and also raised broilers and laying hens. Winifred and Leroy worked side by side in the business, retiring in 1982 after 42 years in business. She was a devoted mother of two sons, Larry L. and Thomas J. Brown. Winifred was a member of Lancaster Christian Church since November of 1932, where she taught Sunday School, was active in the CWF and in 1978 was a member of the Lancaster Church Building Committee. She was also a member of the Chastine Goodwill Club, Keokuk County Farm Bureau, Keokuk County AARP and Lancaster School Heritage Foundation. Survivors include her husband: Leroy of Sigourney; two sons: Larry and wife Marcia of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Thomas and wife Barb of Bay City, Texas; four grandchildren: Jason and wife Lisa Brown, Derek and wife Molly Brown, Kim Brown and Ashley Brown and four great grandchildren: Isabel and Petra Brown and Nora Lee and Keegan Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter: Dawn Desiree Brown. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at the Lancaster Christian Church, with Revs. Dave Matteson and Mark Doll officiating. Burial will be at Pennington Cemetery in rural Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for Lancaster Christian Church or the Sigourney Public Library. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Winifred and her family.
