Lorenzo Alberto Gonzalez was born icon April 8, 1959 in Guatemala the son of Juan and Maria (Cox) Gonzalez. He graduated from Truman College. He worked in the auto parts and electrical industries. Lorenzo died on Friday, February 1, 2013 at his home in Washington at the age of 53 years. Lorenzo is survived by two sons Carlos Alberto Gonzalez of Guatemala, Louis Alberto Gonzalez of Chicago, IL, three grandchildren, his mother Maria Gonzalez of Chicago, IL, four sister’s Connie Morataya of Washington, Anna Hernandez of Chicago, IL, Irma Lopez of Washington, Maria Mondragon of Chicago, IL, and a brother Alfredo Gonzalez of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his father. A memorial service will be held at noon on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.

SIGOURNEY - Marilyn Ingle, age 60, of Sigourney, died Sunday, February 3, 2013, at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Marilyn was born icon December 17, 1952, in Sigourney, to Phillip and Betty (Kerkove) Ingle. She went to Sigourney Schools until 11th grade, graduated from Toledo High School and received her Registered Nurses training at Indian Hills Community College. Marilyn worked at the Jefferson County Hospital for several years, then the Keokuk County Health Center for 15 years before retiring. She was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and enjoyed making jewelry, helping others and taking care of her kids and grandkids. Survivors include four children: Kai (David) Schwab of Sigourney, Andrew Ingle of Albany, Oregon, Tony (Felicia) Ingle of Delta and Tasha Ingle and friend Gage Waechter of Sigourney; nine grandchildren: Hunter, Colton, Kaylie, Aaliyah, Kerya, Ashton, Gabriel, Bentley and Noah; brothers: Gary Ingle of Iowa City, Gerald (Jan) Ingle of Albany, Oregon and Gregg Ingle of Delta and one sister: Twila (Jim) Carter of Sigourney. She was preceded in death by her parents; one nephew: Wade Carter one niece: Tiffany Ingle and companion: Edward “Luigi” Frazier III. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rich Pippert officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for Keokuk County Health Center. Kristian W. Kittelson, 40, of Williamsburg, formerly of Cedar Falls and Parkersburg, died Sunday, Feb. 3 of a heart attack. He was born icon Jan 27, 1973 to Robert O. and Janice K. (Jones) Kittelson. He was a 1991 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Northern Iowa. He then attended Century College and received his degree in Prosthetics, and was currently employed by Hanger Prosthetics of Iowa City. He married icon Jan Marie Tesdahl, and they had 3 children: Ciara, Korbin and Mia. On April 1, 2005, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He is survived by his wife and children of Williamsburg, his mother Jan Kittelson- Martin of Cedar Falls, his brother Michael (Deb) Kittelson of Cedar Falls, his sister Karla (Jay) Ortiz of Santee CA, and his twin sister Kerri (Doug) Karsjens of Cedar Falls, his stepbrother John Griffith of Williamsburg, and stepsisters Debbie Gangwish of Shelton NE and stepsister Triscia Griffith of Petersburg NE, his stepbrother Phil Martin of Ely, and stepsisters Jennifer Hudson of Bend OR and Leighann (Rick) Dahlem of Robbins IA and Beth Martin of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his father Robert O. Kittelson, his paternal grandparents Orlando and Irene Kittelson, his maternal grandparents George and Helen Jones, and his stepfather, Dave Martin. Kris was a devoted father and husband. He enjoyed playing drums, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and hunting and fishing with his family. Kris had a servant's heart and devoted his life to witness for the Lord. In 2010, he traveled to Haiti to volunteer after the massive earthquake, where he worked with a team to provide Prosthetics for the victims. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church in Williamsburg. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Harvest Baptist Church, Williamsburg. Pastor John Sauser will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 6-8 PM at the church. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Williamsburg is in charge of arrangements.

HAYESVILLE-Hazel A. Bird, age 81, of Hayesville, died Saturday, February 9, 2013, at her home. Hazel was born icon May 5, 1931, in Sigourney, to Harley and Violet (Miller) Woods and attended Sigourney schools. On July 22, 1948, she married icon Harold Bird. The couple lived in the Hayesville area, where Hazel sold Avon and Tri-Chem for several years. She also helped with farming and the junk business. A 42-year cancer survivor, Hazel was a member of the Hayesville Club and enjoyed hummingbirds, flowers, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, mushroom hunting and traveling, especially wintering in Texas. Survivors include seven children: Cindy (Joe) Kolosick of Marion, Larry (Mary) Bird of Hayesville, Monte (Nancy) Bird of Sigourney, Beverly (Randy) Muntz of Pekin, Roger (Linda) Bird of Sigourney, Tim (Denise) Bird of Vinton and Tracy (Lance) Okones of Sigourney; 23 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; three brothers: Harold Woods of Sigourney, Edward Woods of Sigourney and Forrest Woods of Pulaski and one sister: Delores Hermanstorffer of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Harold in 2008; grandson: R.J. Bird; great grandson: Brian Bird; two sisters: Lucy Fox and Mary Dawson and three brothers: Cecil Woods in infancy, C.R. (Bob) Woods and Clifford Woods. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sigourney, with Pastor Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be at Pennington Cemetery in rural Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for the Relay for Life. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Hazel and her family.

Edna Z. Wyant McMenomy age 96 of Williamsburg, Iowa went to be with her Lord on February 11, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. She was born icon on October 6, 1916 near Millersburg, Iowa. Edna was the youngest of 8 children born icon to Robertia and Edna (Dell) Berstler Wyant. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1934. On November 18, 1939 she was united in marriage to Eugene (Bub) McMenomy in Williamsburg, Iowa. They were blessed with four children. Edna with her husband lived and farmed their entire life in Iowa County. Upon retirement they lived in North English, Iowa until Bub’s death. Following Bub’s death Edna moved to Williamsburg, Iowa. Besides farming Edna had worked at Milllersburg School Cafeteria, Landmark, Middle America and Chatter Box. She also worked at the Williamsburg Nursing Home, Hillside County Home, and Kingsbury Homes. She always had a large garden and filled the basement each year with canned items from the garden. In her earlier years she was known for her angel food cakes made from scratch. The children remember her always telling them “Do Not go into the kitchen, a cake is in the oven”. She also enjoyed making quilts and has made many beautiful quilts for family and friends. Edna never met a stranger, and was friends to everyone she met. She loved going to church and felt bad when she could not attend in her later years. She is survived by children: Judy (Jim) Andrew, Waxhaw NC; Peggy (Ken) Walton, Viola, IA; Ray (Deb Adams) McMenomy, Oxford IA; Phyllis (Don) Kohlman, Follsom, CA; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robertia and Edna Wyant, her husband of 49 years, Eugene (Bub) McMenomy, Five sisters; Grace Browner, Mabel Taylor, Esther Wyant, Lottie Powers, Gail Miller, two brothers, Charles Wyant, Erwin Wyant.

Francis Edwin (Winnie) White
September 02, 1928 - February 13, 2013
Montezuma, Iowa

Montezuma - Francis Edwin (Winnie) White was born icon September 2, 1928 near Keswick, Iowa, the son of James and Frances (Baker) White. He attended Greenview country school and graduated from Gibson High School in 1945. Winnie was united in marriage to Beverly Miller on December 22, 1952 at the Baptist Church in What Cheer. He was a member of the National Guard for 11 years earning the rank of 1st Lt. After farming the family moved to Montezuma, where they opened a Motorcycle Shop which also included chainsaw sales and equipment. Most recently he bought 8N Ford tractors, restored them and sold them. Winnie enjoyed visiting with family and friends, hunting, fishing, trapping and going to flee markets where he found pocket knives and old tools. Winnie died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly; four children: Lonny (Sue) White of Victor, Lynn White of California, Terri White of Montezuma and Scott White of Knoxville; five grandchildren: Nikki (Kevin) York, Chelsea (Roland Newton) White, Aricka White and Josh (Martha) White; two step grandchildren: Kevin Pidima and Dawn (Paul) Reisner; seven great grandchildren: Savannah White, Beau, Boston and Kyra York, Cory Reisner, Josma White and Devon Newton; two step great grandchildren: Hunter and Dakotah Pidima; a brother: Harold White of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters: Lorene, Margaret, Wilma, Louise and Vera and two brothers: John and Junior. There will be no services at this time. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney are caring for Winnie and his family.

Parnell- Roy Dale Moffit, was born icon on February 13, 1962, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Harold and Judith Jo (Knipfer) Moffit. He attended school in the Cedar Rapids area. He recently attended Kirkwood Community College, where he received his CDL, Roy was so proud of this accomplishment. He was a truck driver for L.L. Pelling in North Liberty. Roy enjoyed spending time with his son, hunting, fishing, boating, camping and horseback riding. Roy died on Thursday, February 14, 2013, in Parnell, at the age of 51 years. He is survived by his partner Annette Van Thournout of Parnell; a son Brayden Moffit of Sigourney; his father Harold (Delilah) Moffit of Central City; a brother William Moffit of Fairfax; a nephew Mack Moffit of Fairfax; his best friend Dave (Lori) Shepherd of Ladora; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Judith Stewart. Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, February 18, 2013, at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. Elder Alan Trumpold will officiate. Burial will be in the Piersol Cemetery, rural North English. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-4 PM at the Powell Funeral Home. A general memorial fund has been established.

SIGOURNEY - Shirley Wohler, age 85, of Sigourney, went to meet her Savior Friday, February 15, 2013, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney after an 18-month battle with MDS. Shirley was born icon February 23, 1927, in State Center, Iowa, the third of eleven children of Lyell and Marie (Hennies) Aves and graduated from Mason City High School. On November 29, 1952, she married icon Gerald Wohler in Luverne, Minnesota. The couple moved to Sigourney in 1956 to run the HiDollar Sale Company. They also worked at Keoco Auction Company. In 1980 Shirley became the head cashier for the family-run HiDollar Auction and will be dearly missed by its patrons and staff. Shirley retired from HiDollar in 2011. Shirley was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and the LWML. They were only four ladies strong, but when they put on their purple aprons they could cook up a meal fit for a king. Shirley cherished the times they worshiped and the times they spent together. She enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes, gardening, sewing, cooking, fishing and anything that included spending time with her family. Survivors include two children: Jerry (Emily) Wohler and Julie Wohler; two grandchildren: Benjamin Wohler and Sara Wohler, all of Sigourney; eight siblings: LuVerne Aves of Waterloo, LaVonne (Roger) Clagett of Kensett, Lila Johnston of Henning, Minnesota, Ray (Mary) Aves of Manly, Jeanette (Harold) Galligan of New Hampton, Linda (Ozzie) Dahle-Melsaether of Manly, Rick Aves of Manly and Susan Aves of Mason City; sister-in-law: Deb McArthur; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Gerald in 1999; sister: Donna (Ray) Olson, brother: Bobby Aves, sister-in-law: Arline Aves; brother-in-law: Bob Johnston and two nieces: Judy Bird and Debbie Olson. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sigourney, with Pastor Richard Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for the Sigourney Public Library, Hope Lutheran Church or Keokuk County Health Center. Jennie Crawford Herdliska Grimm, age 94, died peacefully Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at North English Christian Church with interment at North English Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, North English. A memorial fund has been established for the North English Christian Church, the English Valley Care Center and Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Jennie was born icon December 13, 1918, in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Robert W. and Caroline Schwab Crawford. Jennie grew up in the Holbrook-Parnell area. She received her education in the Holbrook Community School through 7th grade and then graduated from Parnell High School in 1937. On June 2, 1937, she married icon Charles Don Herdliska at the Christian Church parsonage in North English. They lived on a farm north of North English until his death in 1966. She moved to North English and worked at the variety store for 8 years. On December 18, 1974, she married icon Raymond Grimm in Lancaster, Missouri. They lived on a farm west of North English and worked at Grimm Real Estate and Insurance office until retirement in 1990. She is survived by 2 sons: James (Betty) Herdliska of Erskine, MN, Ron (Linda) Herdliska of Solon, IA, 2 step daughters: Verna Jean (Ivan)Edwards of Pella, IA, Cheryl (Clayton) Linscheid of Sterling, IL, 3 stepsons: Ronald(Janice) Grimm of Deep River, IA, Darryl (Peggy) of rural Williamsburg, and Alan (Vicky) of North English, 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great -grandchildren children, 2 sisters: Joan Wade of North English and Shirley Herdlicka of North English, 2 brothers- in- law: Frank Knipfer of North English, and Max Wade of North English, a special sister-in- law Ruby Pope of North English, many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Don Herdliska and Raymond Grimm, brothers Arden and Forde, sisters Annette Fry, Lucille Markwell, Delores Knipfer and Mary Cox and a step grandson.

Lloyd H. Van Winkle Jr. was born icon August 17, 1927 in Fort Madison, Iowa the son of Lloyd and Ruth (Genck) Van Winkle Sr. He graduated from Fort Madison High School. He served in the United States Marines during WWII and the Korean War. In 1952 he was married icon to Gladys Siegfried, they later divorced. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 22 years as a perishable inspector. He lived in Chicago and Streator, Illinois before moving to Iowa City in 1991. In 1997 he married icon Dora Kleinschmidt in Shamrock, Texas. Lloyd was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Last year he had the opportunity to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Lloyd enjoyed fishing and spending time with family. Lloyd died on Friday, March 22, 2013 at his daughter’s home in Fort Madison at the age of 85 years. Lloyd is survived by his wife Dora of Iowa City, three children - Janet Ough of Fort Madison; Lloyd Van Winkle III of St. Louis, Missouri; Carol Van Winkle of Tampa, Florida; 17 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Vicki Rhodes, a grandson, a great grandson, and a sister Mary Stein. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Pastor Mark Pries will officiate. Burial will be in the St John’s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established for Great River Hospice.
