LOIS GUTHRIE

BLOOMFIELD - LOIS GUTHRIE, 90 of rural Bloomfield died March 8, 2008 at her home. She was born icon October 4, 1917 in Davis County, Iowa to Walter Bernard and Arley Maude Sloan Guthrie. She was a graduate of Troy High School and Bloomfield Junior College. She graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1940. She served in the United States Air Force during World War II. She was a home economics teacher and member of the Rebekah Lodge #1 in Bloomfield.

She is survived by a niece Barbara Marcey of Troy, Idaho and a great niece Damian M. Carrillo of Spokane, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Louise Audrey Foutz and a brother Donald Guthrie.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 am Thursday March 13, 2008 at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa with military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. A memorial has been established to Rebekah Lodge #1. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

Helen E. Walker

BLOOMFIELD - Helen E. Walker, 94, of Bloomfield, Iowa died March 10, 2008 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born icon March 11, 1913 in Bloomfield to Charlie E. and Bonnie Odessa Swinney Walker. After graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1931, she attended Bloomfield Junior College and later went on to AIB in Des Moines, Iowa where she studied bookkeeping. She worked for Hockersmith Insurance in Bloomfield, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, the Alpha Delphian Club, and she loved cats.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be at 1:30pm Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Open visitation will be from 9am until 9pm on Wednesday at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.

Helen Jean Williams

MILTON - Helen Jean Williams, 61, of Milton, Iowa died April 19, 2008 at her home. She was born icon March 16, 1947 in Davis County, Iowa to Harry and Lila Campbell Burdett. She married icon Jess L. Williams August 16, 1968 in Agency, Iowa. She was a CNA at the Bloomfield Care Center and Davis County Hospital for 18 years. A resident of Milton most of her life, she was affiliated with the Church of Christ in Bloomfield, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband; 3 sons, David Williams of San Francisco, CA, Donnie Williams of Milton, Paul Williams of Ottumwa, IA; a daughter, Lisa Williams of Ottumwa; 5 granddaughters; 3 brothers, Sanford Burdett of Douds, IA, Donald Burdett of Bloomfield, Rex Burdett of Columbia, TN; 2 sisters, Myrtle Jones of Bloomfield, Judy Steele of Blakesburg, IA; a half-brother, Charles Kinkade of Ottumwa; and a half-sister, Maxine Sexton of Cedar Rapids, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and 3 half-brothers, David, Pete, and Bill Burdett.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10:30am on Wednesday April 23, 2008 at the Drakesville Cemetery in Drakesville, Iowa with Ed Veatch officiating. Visitation will begin after 9am Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A memorial has been established to her family.

HAZEL E. NARDINI-CRALL

BLOOMFIELD - HAZEL E. NARDINI-CRALL, 92 of Bloomfield, Iowa died April 6, 2008 at the Davis County Hospital Long Term Care in Bloomfield. She was born icon April 4, 1916 in Unionville, Missouri to Alfred E. and Vernie Guffey Minear. She married icon A.J. “Tudo” Nardini March 10, 1934. He preceded her in death December 23, 1975. She later married icon James J. (Jim) Crall June 17, 1984. He preceded her in death February 1985. From 1996 to his death in July 2007, Hazel enjoyed a close friendship with George Kyl. Hazel and her husband “Tudo” owned and operated Nardini’s Model Grocery in Bloomfield for many years. She was the mayor of Bloomfield for 20 years from 1970-1982 and again from 1986-1994. She was active in the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, Davis County Fine Arts Council, Davis County Hospital Auxiliary, the Pink Ladies until after her 90th birthday and several other volunteer activities. She was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Bloomfield.

She is survived by 3 sons, James (Julene) and John (Valerie) Nardini both of Sioux Falls, SD, Jay (Candy) Nardini of Waterloo, IA; 1 daughter, Verine Jo “Jodi” (Larry) Parks-Doyle of Peyton, CO; 5 stepsons, Leo (Carol) Crall of Ankeny, IA, Marty (Linda) Crall of Windsor Heights, IA, Dan (Mary Kay) Crall of Olathe, KS, Chris (Carole) Crall of Seattle, WA, Phil (Marianne) Crall of Des Moines, Iowa; 2 stepdaughters, Janice Crall of Albia, IA, Kathy (David) Liggett of Bloomfield; 19 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a sister, Grace Yenne; and a brother, Gail Minear.

Funeral Mass will be at 10am Friday, April 11, 2008 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Bloomfield with Rev. Bernie Weir officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will be Thursday after 9am with the family present to greet friends from 4pm-7pm. A Christian Wake Service will follow family visitation. Memorials have been established to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church or to Hospice, Inc.

Doris Claudine Widmer

BLOOMFIELD - Doris Claudine Widmer, 94, of Bloomfield, Iowa died April 5, 2008 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was born icon September 10, 1913 in Davis County, Iowa to David Clarence and Emma Laura Slonaker Cowles. She married icon Harlan Ramseyer Widmer June 3, 1939 in Davis County, Iowa. He preceded her in death December 5, 1982. A lifetime resident of Davis County, she was a teacher in rural Davis County Schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Pulaski Mennonite Church in Pulaski, Iowa, and participated in the Dorcas Circle.

She is survived by a son, David Widmer of Dallas, Texas; and two grandsons, Michael Widmer of Boston, Massachusetts, and Ben Widmer of Woodland Hills, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Lela Payne and Edith Sherman.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30am on Wednesday April 9, 2008 at the Pulaski Mennonite Church in Pulaski, Iowa with Pastor Darrell Zook officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 9am on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 7-8pm at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Mennonite Disaster Service.

Brody James Allen Hopkins

BLOOMFIELD - Brody James Allen Hopkins, son of Eric L. Hopkins and Alisha A. Allen was stillborn April 4, 2008 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa.

He is survived by his parents; grandparents, Dennis Allen and Jody Allen of Bloomfield, James and Mildred Hopkins of Ottumwa, Iowa; great-grandparents, Carol Grinstead of Floris, Iowa and Keith and Charlene Allen of Bloomfield.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather Dewey Grinstead Jr.

Graveside services will be at 1:30pm Tuesday April 8, 2008 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. A memorial has been established to the family and may be sent to 410 N. East St. Bloomfield, Iowa 52537 or left at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa.

JACK UGENE MINCKS

BLOOMFIELD - JACK UGENE MINCKS, 73 of Bloomfield died April 4, 2008 at his home. He was born icon July 2, 1934 in Davis County, Iowa to William Ernest and Vira May Story Mincks. He married icon Louise Parker May 15, 1955 in Bloomfield. He lived most of his life in Davis County and was a farmer. He was a member of the Davis County Sheep Producers.

He is survived by his wife; 3 sons Tim (Lois) Mincks of Columbus Junction, Iowa, Jack J. (Brenda) Mincks of Mitchellville, Iowa and Bob (Patricia) Mincks of Bloomfield, Iowa and a daughter Mary Russell of Bloomfield, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 3 brothers Bill Mincks of Kimberling City, Missouri, James Mincks of West Plaines, Missouri and Larry Mincks of Drakesville, Iowa and a sister Carol Redman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers Gene, Donald and Dick Mincks and 2 sisters Mary Nicoli and Wilma Mincks.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Tuesday April 8, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Bill Iammatteo-Code officiating. Burial will be in the Drakesville Cemetery in Drakesville, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am Monday with the family present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 pm. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to his family.

Ellen Pearl Goodwin

BLOOMFIELD - Ellen Pearl Goodwin, 81, of Bloomfield, Iowa died March 31, 2008 at her home. She was born icon May 20, 1926 in Bloomfield to Frank and Alillian Johnson Walker. She married icon Vernon Goodwin February 8, 1947 in Bloomfield. A resident of Bloomfield most of her life, she was a homemaker. She was affiliated with the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.

She is survived by 2 sons, Allen (Linda) Goodwin of Ottumwa, Iowa and Larry (Mary) Goodwin of Drakesville, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Gilmer (Stony), Guy, and Clyde Walker; and 3 sisters, Eva Harrison, Emma Walker, and Irma Ridenour.

Funeral services will be at 10:30am Friday April 4, 2008 at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Robert Harrison officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9am Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Davis County Historical Society.

Margaret Ring Boone

BLOOMFIELD - Margaret Ring Boone, 88, of Bloomfield, Iowa died March 18, 2008 at Davis County Hospital Long Term Care in Bloomfield. She was born icon July 16, 1919 in Great Falls, Montana to Parke and Olive Hartman Hockersmith. She married icon Russell S. Boone March 18, 1937 in Kirksville, MO. He preceded her in death October 21, 1998. She was the Record Librarian for Davis County Hospital for 28 years. She was very active within the community delivering meals on wheels and volunteering at the Welcome Center in Bloomfield. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, serving as deacon and belonged to the Ruth Group. She was considered “The Rock” of her family.

She is survived by 5 sons, Richard of Bloomfield, Allan of Phoenix, AZ, Robert of Modesto, CA, Larry of Lake City, FL, and Jon of Yalaha, FL; 2 daughters, Bev Christoffersen of Johnston, IA, and Lori Wyse of Phoenix, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanleigh Hockersmith of Denver, CO; and a sister, Norma Parker, also of Denver.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Stephanie Boone; an infant brother, Robert Hockersmith; and a son-in-law, Jerry Christofferson.

The body has been donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Graveside services and burial of the cremains will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield at a later date. Memorials have been established to the Davis County Fine Arts Council or the Bloomfield Christian Church and may be left at or sent to Wagler Funeral Home 304 West Jefferson St. Bloomfield, Iowa 52537.

Jarold “Jerry” Leon Fleming

DRAKESVILLE - Jarold “Jerry” Leon Fleming, 71, of White, Georgia, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville Georgia, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 11, 1936 in Centerville, Iowa, he was the son of the late Harold and Lila Herteen Fleming, and was a graduate of Mt. Union High School, in Mt. Union, Iowa. Jerry was a retired master plumber and pipe fitter, and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He loved hunting, fishing, and shrimping while living in Florida. Jerry was also an avid history buff.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Marcia Fleming of Grimes, Iowa and Glenda (David) Gonzales of Manchester, Tennessee; his siblings and their spouses, Charlene (Clifford) Pepper of Batavia, Iowa, Dwayne (Connie) Fleming of Ankeny, Iowa, Diane (Mike) Quince of Phoenix, Arizona, and Roger (Judy) Fleming of Palm Bay Florida; his grandchildren, Ashley Bailey and Jennifer Bailey; his great-grandson, Gage Thompson; and his former wife Ella Juanita Anderson Fleming.

A service to celebrate the life of Jarold Fleming will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Bloomfield Christian Church in Bloomfield, Iowa with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the Drakesville Cemetery in Drakesville, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9 am until the time of the service at the church. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church Scholarship and may be mailed to: Bloomfield Christian Church, 107 N. Davis St, Bloomfield, Iowa 52537.

David C. Hughes

OTTUMWA - David C. Hughes, 88, of Ottumwa, Iowa died July 5, 2008 at the Ridgewood Care Center in Ottumwa. He was born icon February 18, 1920 in Bunch, Iowa to Jay A. and Hazel I. Glassburner Hughes. He married icon Illa Fae Hawkins on October 3, 1943 in Memphis, Missouri. She preceded him in death August 2, 1998. He was an electrician for Robertson Electric in Ottumwa. He was a member of the Dunnville Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Iowa and enjoyed music, teaching children how to square dance, gardening and was a member of the B Squares Dance Club. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He is survived by 3 sister-in-laws, Judy Morse of Bloomfield, Iowa, Edith Smith of Ottumwa, Iowa, Sandy Hughes of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 sisters, Zella Thompson, Elva D. Cole; 2 brothers, Donald and Doran Hughes; and a companion, Violet Chapman.

Graveside services will be at 11:00am Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Marvin Martin officiating. Visitation will begin after 9am on Tuesday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the family present to greet friends from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Dunnville Baptist Church Educational Camp for Children and Hospice Inc.
