Nancy Petersen

Nancy Lou Petersen, 54, of the Hope Haven Guegler Home for 16 years, died at 10:35 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Rose Bush Gardens in Burlington.

Born Oct. 24, 1946, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Glenn and Marcella Holsteen Petersen.
Miss Petersen attended Sperry schools and special education classes in Burlington. She worked at the Hope Haven Activities Center.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She loved going to Sun Catchers Sunday School class and enjoyed baking cookies, eating out and going to movies and the mall.

Survivors include her parents of Burlington; three sisters, Glenda Lyons and Karen Darnell, both of Burlington, and Lois Elliott of Cherokee; four nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Miss Petersen will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dennis Tevis and Missy Brown officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for her church and Hope Haven.

Nyll Denison

Nyll Denison, 88, of Des Moines, formerly of Carthage, Ill., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at her home.

Born July 15, 1913, in Industry, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles and Leona Willey Zimkoske.
Mrs. Denison was raised in Macomb, Ill. She worked as a nurse's aide at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, retiring in 1976.

She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Des Moines. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter, DiAnne Sager of Des Moines, and two grandsons.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The graveside service for Mrs. Denison will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.

A memorial has been established for Seventh Day Adventist Church American Disaster Relief.

Rayette Hoambrecker

Rayette J. Hoambrecker, 58, of Elgin, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

Born Sept. 23, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Raymond and Ethel Six Kane. She married Dennis Hoambrecker.
Mrs. Hoambrecker was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years; five sons, Matthew, Daniel, Timothy and Adam Hoambrecker, all of Elgin, and David Hoambrecker of DeKalb, Ill.; two daughters, Catherine Beal of Belvidere, Ill., and Sandra Hoambrecker of Elgin; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral for Mrs. Hoambrecker will be private.

Sallie Kelly

Sallie Belle Shoemaker Kelly, 77, of Crystal Springs, Miss., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst, Miss.

Mrs. Kelly was a native of Copiah County, Miss. She married Ivan Kelly Sr.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Burlington.

Survivors include one son, Ivan Kelly Jr. of Burlington; one brother, Henry T. Shoemaker of Crystal Springs, Miss.; four sisters, Juner V. Bailey, Faye Berry and Lula Mae Sykes, all of Crystal Springs, Miss., and Dorothy Adams of Brandon, Miss.; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter.

The funeral for Mrs. Kelly was Sept. 18 at Stringer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery.

William Canby

William V. Canby, 39, of Farley, formerly of Winfield, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at his home.

Born June 7, 1962, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Vaughn K. and Mary Jane Vaughan Canby. He married Valerie Hart on Oct. 25, 1986, in Burlington.
Mr. Canby was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. He was a major in the U.S. Army Reserves at the Dubuque Reserve Center, serving as a staff operations and training specialist for the 389th Engineer Combat Battalion.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Nicholas, Andrea and Christian Canby, all at home; his parents, Vaughn and Grace Canby of Marysville, Calif., and Mary Jane and Jim Kauffman of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Susan Morales of Chesapeake, Va.; three nieces; one nephew; and his mother-in-law.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley.

The funeral for Mr. Canby will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with military honors conducted by the 389th Engineer Battalion. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established.

Robert Hoschek

Robert J. Hoschek, 87, of Burlington, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center. Arrangements are pending at Hass Funeral Home.

Tom Bender

Tom W. Bender, 87, of Keokuk, died at 3:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Lexington Square in Keokuk. Arrangements are pending at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk.

Wendell Redmond

Wendell J. Redmond, 80, of Wapello, died Sunday morning, Feb. 6, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Nov. 17, 1924, in Norwood, N.Y., he was the son of Charles and Verdiss Redmond. In 1956, he married Thelma Love in Messena, N.Y. She died in 1974.

Mr. Redmond was a heavy equipment operator.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Moose Lodge in Messena.

Survivors include one son, Wendell Redmond Jr. of Wapello; nine grandchildren; three great–grandchildren; and two brothers, Rodney Redmond of Collinsville, Ill., and Wayne Redmond of Texas.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

According to Mr. Redmond's wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service may be at a later date.

Dudgeon–McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello is in charge of arrangements.

SHERRI F. JOY GERST

Funeral Services for Sherri F. Joy Gerst, 44, of Burlington will be held in Prugh's Chapel this morning at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Robert Adams will officiate. Interment will be in Ferrell Cemetery in New London, Iowa. A memorial has been established in memory of Sherri F. Joy Gerst.

RAYMOND K. PEARSON

Funeral Services for Mr. Raymond K. Pearson, 93, of Burlington will be held in the First United Methodist Church on Friday, February 11, 2005, at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Dr. Dennis Tevis will officiate. Interment with full graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League and AmVets Post 52 will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church.

Tena Schultz

Tena Mae Schultz, 59, of Cedar Rapids, died at her home December 1, 2004, after a short illness. The funeral was Monday at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Tena is survived by her son, Brad and his wife Jill Schultz; granddaughter, Alivia Schultz, all of Cedar Rapids; her mother, Mildred Welter of Mediapolis, one brother, Mike and his wife Trudy Welter of Sigourney; one nephew, Matt Welter; and a niece, Katie Welter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, son, Kevin, and her father, John Welter.

Tena was born January 4, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Mildred Case Welter. She married John Schultz on September 5, 1970, in Mediapolis; he died February 11, 1992.

Tena worked at the Butterfly Café, where she met her husband. She was a beautician on and off for close to 40 years. She worked for the Cedar Rapids Schools since 1988 as the health secretary for Taylor until 1993, when she became the secretary to the principal at Hiawatha. In 1995, she became the secretary to the principal at Grant Early Childhood Development.

Tena was involved in the Red Hat Society, CRAEOP, and she was active in school PTA and was also a very active volunteer at all the schools.

Memorials may be directed to the family c/o Brad Schultz, 393 18th St. S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403.

Alfred Rickert

Alfred Warren "Rick" Rickert, 83, of Keokuk died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born March 5, 1921, in Keokuk, he was the son of John and Anna Schaefer Rickert. On June 22, 1952, he married Doris Marie Royal in Keokuk.

Mr. Rickert was a retired aircraft mechanic and worked for Clark Aircraft Repair in Keokuk for several years before retiring in 1975.

He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and a 1939 graduate of Keokuk High School. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, serving with the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group (Heavy), 493rd Bomb Squadron as an airplane maintenance technician and propeller specialist in the China, Burma and India Theater of Operation. He was discharged with the rank of master sergeant. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and the American Legion. He enjoyed operating his radio controlled model airplanes and loved to repair and restore Volkswagens.

Survivors include his wife; one son, John Rickert of Minot, N.D.; one daughter, Patricia Rickert of Iowa City; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Rickert will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Vigen Memorial Home, with the Rev. Hoyt Whitebread officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Keokuk Area Hospital Foundation and the American Legion.

Doris Wilson

Doris Louise Wilson, 73, of Burlington, died at 10:09 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center in Burlington.

Born Aug. 2, 1930, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John H. and Winnie M. Ancelet Sullivan. On Dec. 1, 1949, she married Kenneth L. Wilson in Burlington.

She was a 1948 graduate of Burlington High School.

Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and also had worked for Danville Schools, IRC, Metromail, Churchill Trucking and Allred Grocery Store.

She was of the Protestant faith. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose.

She loved to play bingo, do craft work and travel.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Cheryl A. Smith and Rhonda K. Wilson, both of Burlington, and Lynne M. Raymond of Downing, Mo.; two sons, Jeffrey A. Wilson of Middletown and Gary L. Wilson of California; seven grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; two brothers, Dale E. Sullivan of Burlington and Robert E. Sullivan of rural West Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two great–grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday.

The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Wilson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Frank Beaty officiating. Inurnment will be in Blakeway Cemetery , rural Danville, at a later date.

According to her wishes, Mrs. Wilson's body has been donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Memorials have been established for the Great River Medical Center Hospice and YWCA Battered Women's Shelter.
