Steven L. Miller

BLOOMFIELD - Steven L. Miller, 57, of Bloomfield, Iowa died May 20, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born icon August 6, 1950 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Robert Jacob and Eva Brooks Miller. He married icon Becky Rominger August 22, 1971 in Bloomfield. He owned and operated Steve’s Service Station in Bloomfield for 20 years. He later worked as a gas technician for the City of Bloomfield. He served as secretary and treasurer for the Local 3590 AFSCME Union in Bloomfield. A 1968 graduate of Davis County High School he was active as a Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of the West Grove United Methodist Church and served as the treasurer. He also attended the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Centerville.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ryan Miller of Bloomfield; a daughter, Jennifer Schumaker of Bloomfield; 4 grand-children; and a sister, Sheryl Miller of Pulaski, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be 1:30pm Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastors Shari Squires and Mark Waits officiating. Burial will be in the West Grove Cemetery in West Grove, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9am on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm. A memorial has been established to the West Grove United Methodist Church.

Sharon Kay Wheaton

BLOOMFIELD - Sharon Kay Wheaton, 64, of Bloomfield, Iowa died June 21, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born icon September 28, 1943 in Pulaski, Iowa to Floyd and Leola Hendricks Miller. She married icon Larry Weller October 17, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa. He preceded her in death December 2, 1988. She later married icon Everett “Buck” Wheaton in May 1993 in Pulaski, Iowa. She was a cook and an aide at the Bloomfield Care Center.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Dee (Skip) Johnson, Kathi (Craig) Scott, both of Bloomfield, Iowa; a son, Mikel Weller of Bloomfield; a step-daughter, Rose Wheaton of Bloomfield; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; and a sister, Pat Hecker of Warrensburg, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 2 brothers, Bill and Jerry Miller.

A celebration of life will be on Friday, June 27 at 7pm at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Rhonda Eakins officiating. The family will be at the funeral home from 6pm until the time of the service to greet friends. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Main Street Christmas Light Fund.

Pamela Sue Allgood

DRAKESVILLE - Pamela Sue Allgood, 54 of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and former Drakesville, Iowa resident died May 19, 2008 at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg, Misssissippi. She was born icon April 13, 1954 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Leslie Clair and Dorothy Alice Hopkins Roberts. She married icon Dale Allgood. She had been a resident of Hattiesburg for 3 ½ years and was a manager of the Indian Old Pecan House.

She is survived by her husband; 2 daughters Jenny Potter of Shreveport, Louisiana and Ashley Taylor of Seattle, Washington; her mother Dorothy Roberts of Drakesville, Iowa; a brother Danny Roberts (Lynn) of Drakesville, Iowa and a sister Sandra (Delbert) Cormeny of Ottumwa, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 am Saturday May 24, 2008 at the Wesley Chapel North Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa with Rev. Jim Matheney officiating. The family will be present for visitation at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday. A memorial has been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars.

Marvin L. Tharp

BLOOMFIELD - Marvin L. Tharp, 92, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa died March 25, 2008 at his home. He was born icon February 13, 1916 in Davis County, Iowa to Ray Wilford and Nona Mae McCullough Tharp. He married icon Lavelle Moore November 1, 1940 in Centerville, Iowa. She precedes him in death March 16, 2002. While attending the University of Iowa he played baseball his freshmen year and was in the ROTC. A resident of Davis County is lifetime, he was a farmer. He was affiliated with the Orleans Church of Christ near Moulton, Iowa.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Annette Goater of Marion, Iowa, Launa Smith and Carol Almy both of Long Grove, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roe Tharp of Ottumwa, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers, Max and Logan Tharp.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30am Friday March 28, 2008 at the Orleans Church of Christ, 22063 330th Ave. Moulton, Iowa with Rev. Jerry Weller officiating. Burial will be at Sunset View Cemetery in Moulton. Open visitation will be on Thursday from 9am-9pm at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Family visitation will be Friday 9am until the time of service at the Orleans Church of Christ. A memorial has been established to the Orleans Church of Christ.

Jerry Lee Dixon

BLOOMFIELD - Jerry Lee Dixon, 73, of Bloomfield, Iowa died May 18, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born icon December 10, 1934 in Davis County, Iowa to Purlie and Inez Bollman Dixon. He married icon Mary Lou Gooden February 3, 1962 in Milton, Iowa. He was a 1953 graduate of Bloomfield High School and served in the United States Army. He owned and operated Dixon’s Backhoe Service until his retirement. He also owned and operated Dixon’s Furniture in Bloomfield with his wife. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and the Laplanders Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Darin (Brandy) Dixon of Bloomfield; a daughter, Traci (John) Lynch of Bloomfield; 5 grandchildren, Layson and Colbi Lynch, Brandt, Briley, and Bryce Ann Dixon; a brother, Errol Dixon of Boone, Iowa; and a sister, JoAnn Hoskin, of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers, Robert and Charles Dixon.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30am Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin and Pastor Bob Beckler officiating. Burial of the cremains with military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 American Legion will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Family will be at the funeral home from 6-8pm Wednesday to greet friends. Memorials have been established to the Class of 1953 Scholarship Fund, or the Bloomfield Christian Church.

Dortha D. White

PULASKI - Dortha D. White, 84, of Pulaski, Iowa died May 14, 2008 at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, Iowa. She was born icon July 28, 1923 in Davis County, Iowa to Clyde and Mattie Croft Friend. She married icon Claude “Boots” White September 11, 1946 in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death January 4, 1999. She was affiliated with the Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Bloomfield, Iowa. A resident of Davis County her lifetime, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Sharon (Bill Jr.) Thomas of Bloomfield, Barbara (Jim) Downing of Fairfield, Iowa, Connie (Orville) Fiedler of Eldon, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Thomas of Decorah, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 3 brothers, Leo, Irvin, and Dewey Friend.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30am Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Jim von Feldt officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1pm until 9pm Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.

Helen Fay Billhymer

PULASKI - Helen Fay Billhymer, 81, of Pulaski, Iowa died May 9, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born icon August 31, 1926 in Davis County, Iowa to George and Dorthy Gardner Gibson. She married icon Jack D. Billhymer August 11, 1945 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death June 24, 1986. She worked at the Bloomfield Care Center for 17 years in housekeeping and also as the Activities Director, retiring in 1989. A resident of Davis County her lifetime, she was also a homemaker.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Georgia (Danny) Harris, Susie (Rick) Peugh, both of Pulaski, Iowa, Mary “Joy” (Marvin) Ware of West Point, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Danny (Denise) Harris Jr., Dennis Harris both of Pulaski, Bonnie Billhymer of Dayton, Ohio, Ricky Lee Peugh Jr. of Ames, Iowa, Dakota Peugh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Damon Peugh of Chariton, Iowa; a great-grandson, Conner James Adams Peugh of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Hazel Lawson of Zanesville, Ohio; a brother, Richard Gibson of Kingman, Arizona; and a special friend, Gene Cubbage of Batavia, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral Services will be at 1pm Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Kramer Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Wesley Chapel South Cemetery in Davis County. Open visitation will be from 9am until 9pm at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to her family.

Dorthea Francis Lund Gravatt

DRAKESVILLE - Dorthea Francis Lund Gravatt, 82, of Drakesville, Iowa died April 26, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born icon April 11, 1926 is Osborn, Missouri to Jordan and Lennie Anderson Lund. She married icon William “Bill” Gravatt September 21, 1946 in St. James, Missouri. She served in the Army Nurses Cadet Corp during WWII. She was a Registered Nurse at the Lebanon Hospital in Lebanon, Missouri and also at the Methwick Manor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A resident of Davis County for 25 years, she was a member of the Centerville Church of Christ in Centerville, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband; 2 sons, William J. (Cynthia) Gravatt of North Liberty, Iowa, Bruce R. (Elaine) Gravatt of Lake Arrowhead, California; 8 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services will be 10am Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Minister Ben Suchman officiating. Burial will be in the Hammans Cemetery west of Drakesville, Iowa. Visitation will begin after 9am on Tuesday with the family present from 6-8pm to greet friends at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Centerville Church of Christ, Music Therapy at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, and the American Heart Association.

Icil Anne Parks

CENTERVILLE: Icil Anne Parks, 98, of Centerville, Iowa and former resident of Bloomfield, Iowa died April 22, 2008 at the Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born icon January 21, 1910 in Hedrick, Iowa to James William and Artie Arzella Dawson Jones. She married icon Harvey F. Parks April 5, 1942 in Kirksville, Missouri. He preceded her in death November 8, 2000. A lifetime resident of Iowa, she graduated in 1928 from Ottumwa High School and in 1962 from Northeast Missouri Teacher College with honors. She was a dedicated teacher spending more than 30 years teaching in rural schools and later teaching junior high english for Davis County Community Schools, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and a fifty-year-member of Rebekah Lodge #1 in Bloomfield.

She is survived by a son, Dr. M.G. (Rita) Parks of Unionville, Missouri; 2 daughters, Elaine (Don) Faas of Ames, Iowa, Nancy (Dennis) Proctor of Swisher, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Ryan H. Parks; 4 brothers, Arlo, Otto, George and Wilbur Jones; and 2 sisters, Faerie Jones and Nancy Bissell.

Memorial services will be at 11am Saturday April 26, 2008 at the Bloomfield Christian Church in Bloomfield, Iowa with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church and the Davis County Fine Arts Council and may be left at or sent to Wagler Funeral Home 304 W. Jefferson St. Bloomfield, Iowa 52537.

Marie Lavon Mason

BLOOMFIELD - Marie Lavon Mason, 82, of Bloomfield, Iowa died March 3, 2008 at Davis County Hospital Long Term Care. She was born icon November 20, 1925 in Tracy, Iowa to Virgil and Gladys Furgison Hauenstein. She married icon Robert Mason April 5, 1946 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He preceded her in death December 16, 2007. She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Gayle (Don) Walton of Bloomfield, and Sue Anne (Randy) Dailey of Ottumwa, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother, Verlan Hauenstein of Leighton, Iowa; 3 sisters, Mildred Holdsworth of Newton, Iowa, Doris Stansberry of Knoxville, Iowa and June Van Essen of Tracy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Laverne Hauenstein.

Funeral services will be at 11am on Monday, March 10, 2008 at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Visitation will begin Monday at 9am until the time of the service. Cremation will follow the service with interment at the Bellefountaine Cemetery in Tracy, Iowa at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Hospital Long Term Care Activity Fund.
