MILTON - CONNIE LEE PORTER, age 56 of Milton died July 31, 2006 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born icon March 5, 1950 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Melvin E. and Verna J. White Wilson. She married icon Donald Porter January 31, 1970 in Bloomfield, Iowa. She was a resident of Milton most of her life. She was a 1968 graduate of Milton High School. She was a homemaker and assistant manager with Midstates Foods in Ottumwa. She was a member of the Milton Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband; a son Donald Eugene (Koren) Porter, Jr. of Fairfield, Iowa; 2 grandchildren; her mother Verna Wilson of Milton, Iowa and a sister Carol Christenson of Indianola, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM Friday August 4, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Harold Baker officiating. No visitation is planned. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to the Leukemia Society.

MARY HARDY ZIRKELBACH

BLOOMFIELD - MARY HARDY ZIRKELBACH, age 85 of Fullerton, California and former Davis County resident died June 8, 2006 at her home. She was born icon December 17, 1920 in Washington County, Iowa to Rufus Guy and Mable Rose Kenworthy Hardy. She graduated from Bloomfield High School, attended Cottey College and then transferred to Northeast Missouri College in Kirksville, Missouri where she graduated. She married icon Staff Sergeant Edward Zirkelbach in 1944. She served in the United States Army in the WAAC during World War II. She was a pharmacist and lived in Fullerton for many years.

She is survived by 3 brothers William Baptist Hardy of Bound Brook, New Jersey, Horace Guy Hardy of Lakewood, Ohio and Thomas Kenworthy Hardy of Bloomfield, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services with military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield at 10:30 AM July 25, 2006 with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. No visitation is planned. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

RALPH WESLEY TEWS

BLOOMFIELD - RALPH WESLEY TEWS, age 88 of Bloomfield died July 20, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born icon July 23, 1917 in Davis County, Iowa to Frederick William and Viola Mabel Hawkins Tews. He married icon Eva Mae Willier October 19, 1942 in Queen City, Missouri. She preceded him in death January 26, 2002. He was a 1934 graduate of Bloomfield High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II with the 125th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron 113th Calvary Group in the European Theater. He had been an automotive machinist for (NAPA) Quality Motors for 30 years. He was an active member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, having served in many elected positions within the church including president of the governing board. He was also a 60 year member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.

He is survived by a son Stephen (Kay) Tews of Bloomfield; a daughter Susan (David) Beery of Lovilia, Iowa and 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 brothers Bill Tews and one in infancy and 3 sisters Ethel Powell, Florence Shane and Ruth McCarty.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday July 24, 2006 at the Bloomfield Christian Church with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield, will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Sunday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with the family present from 2:00-4:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church Scholarship Fund.

HILDRED E. McMAINS

BLOOMFIELD - HILDRED E. McMAINS, age 93 of Bloomfield died July 18, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. She was born icon February 8, 1913 in Davis County, Iowa to Levi Sherman and Lennie Williamson Van Horn. She married icon Estell “Dutch” McMains March 22, 1931 in Davis County, Iowa. He preceded her in death October 4, 1991. She was a homemaker and lifetime resident of Davis County. She was a member of the Savannah Christian Church and later transferred to the Bloomfield Christian Church. She was also a member of the Savannah Ladies Aide and the Prairie Home Club.

She is survived by a daughter Mary Padget and son Michael (Joanie) McMains both of Bloomfield; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son in law James “Buck” Padget; 3 brothers Lester and Dale Van Horn and one in infancy and a sister Hersel Games.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday July 21, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday with the family present from 6:30-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Historical Society for the Savannah Christian Church.

MARY LEE LYONS

BLOOMFIELD - MARY LEE LYONS, age 83 of Bloomfield died June 27, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born icon July 20, 1922 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Levi and Ruth Christy Chadwick. She married icon Dillon Lyons November 24, 1940 in Bloomfield, Iowa. She was a lifetime resident of Davis County. and was a homemaker and teachers aide at the elementary school for several years. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, Christian Church Quilters, Ottumwa Area China Painters Club, Laugh-a-Lot Club, and the Kalico Klickers square dancers.

She is survived by her husband; a son Ron Lyons of Dinuba, California; 2 daughters Karen Roth of Wayland, Iowa and Donna York of Loveland, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 brothers Carl Chadwick of Bloomfield, Iowa, Bob Chadwick of Ottumwa, Iowa and John Chadwick of St. Louis, Missouri and 7 sisters Doris Spurgeon of Keosauqua, Iowa, Alice Harder of Center Point, Oregon, Jean Koehler of Burlington, Iowa, Joann Hunter of Seymour, Iowa, Joyce Pence of Bloomfield, Iowa and Judy and Jeanette Chadwick both of Burlington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter Cindy Beghtol and a brother Martin Chadwick.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday July 1, 2006 at the Bloomfield Christian with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars.

MARY OLENA SPARGUR

BLOOMFIELD - MARY OLENA SPARGUR, age 99 of Bloomfield, died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born icon March 15, 1907 in Glenwood, Missouri to John Edward and Nellie Belle Roberts Alexander. She married icon Walter B. Spargur November 25, 1932 in Milan, Missouri. He preceded her in death January 30, 1992. A resident of Bloomfield since 1948; she was a registered nurse at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield for 50 years. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star in Kirksville, Missouri and the American Nurses Association.

She is survived by two sons; Charles Spargur of Bloomfield, Iowa and Robert Spargur of Belleville, Illinois, four grandchildren, two step grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter Debra Spargur, two brothers, Charles and Marvin Alexander and a sister, Edith Dufur.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the Bloomfield Christian Church with Reverend James Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The family will be present at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Dollars for Scholars.

ROLLIN JAMES “ROLLIE” OVERSTREET

BLOOMFIELD - ROLLIN JAMES “ROLLIE” OVERSTREET, age 43 of Bloomfield died June 17, 2006 at Hospice House in Ottumwa. He was born icon June 12, 1963 in Kirksville, Missouri to R. Eugene “Potter” and Charlotte Carruthers Overstreet. He married icon Crystal Jayne Bogle August 1, 1987 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was a 1981 graduate of Davis County Community High School. He was a job superintendent for McAninch Corporation out of Des Moines. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, Local 234 Operating Engineers Union and the Bloomfield Country Club. He loved attending his kids activities, playing golf and cards, barbecuing, working crossword and suduko puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife; son Reece Elliot Overstreet; daughter Taylor Mackenzie Overstreet both at home; a sister Rhonda Northup of Bloomfield; 3 brothers Randal Jay, Robert “Bob” and Rodney Overstreet all of Bloomfield; stepmother Sherry Overstreet of Keosauqua, Iowa; a step brother Mike Hornbaker of Dallas, Texas; 3 step sisters Lea Keller of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Benton of Fair Oaks, California and Julie Malloy of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandmother Frances Overstreet of Cantril, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents Bill and Evelyn Carruthers and C. LaVern Overstreet.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday June 20, 2006 at the Bloomfield Christian Church with Rev. James Wakelin and Tiffany Austin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The family will be present from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established in Rollie’s name.

VERLIN L. WIMP

BLOOMFIELD - VERLIN L. WIMP, age 91 of Bloomfield died June 10, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born icon May 15, 1915 in Troy, Iowa to Ernest A. and Cora Elizabeth Lough Wimp. He married icon Elaine L. Spaulding September 2, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa. She preceded him in death December 2, 2003. He graduated from Milton High School in 1933 and was a 1937 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College. He had been a salesman of cars, RV’s and business supplies. He was a member of the First Federated Church in Des Moines, Iowa, a 60 year member of Franklin Lodge #14 AF & AM in Bloomfield and Ottumwa Lodge #16 AF & AM, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Bloomfield and Ottumwa and was an assistant Boy Scout leader.

He is survived by 2 sons James Wimp of Ackworth, Iowa and Larry Wimp of Bloomfield, Iowa; 3 grandsons and a brother Vester Wimp of Bloomfield, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Tuesday June 13, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Jack Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday with Masonic services by Ottumwa Lodge #16 at 6:30 PM, followed by family visitation until 8:00 PM.

DOROTHY JANE PIPER

BLOOMFIELD - DOROTHY JANE PIPER, age 74 of Bloomfield died May 26, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. She was born icon November 8, 1931 in Bayard, Iowa to Leland A. and Marion A. Silva McCord. She married icon Donald G. Piper September 10, 1950 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 10, 1999. She lived in Davis County most of her life. She was a homemaker and owned and operated P.S. Notions in Bloomfield. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, Chapter Q TTT, past PTA president, was a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed playing bridge.

She is survived by 2 sons Bruce and Chris Piper both of Bloomfield; 2 daughter Mary Poulter of Colfax, Iowa and Jane Snodgrass of Des Moines, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters and 2 sisters Dixie Bowling of Georgetown, Texas and Peggy Weathers of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son in infancy; a sister Pat Stevenson and a half brother Melvin McCord.

Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa. Memorial services will be at 7:30 PM Tuesday May 30, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Dave Schooley officiating. The family will be present for visitation prior to the service from 6:00-7:30 PM Tuesday. Burial of the cremains will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, at a later date. Memorials in lieu of flowers have been established to the Hospice Room at the Davis County Hospital and Hospice of Central Iowa.

JOE DEAN BRAGG

BLOOMFIELD - JOE DEAN BRAGG, age 51 of rural Bloomfield died May 25, 2006 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born icon March 27, 1955 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Irvin True and Beulah May Beeler Bragg. He married icon Sonia Bish February 4, 1978 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was a resident of Davis county his lifetime and was a 1973 graduate of Davis County Community High School. He owned and operated Bragg and Sons Recycling in Mark, Iowa. He was a member of the Coatsville Baptist Church, the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunting Association.

He is survived by his wife; 2 sons George (Sarah) Bragg and Dean (Hallie) Bragg both of Bloomfield; 2 grandsons Dylan Bragg and Dean Bragg, Jr.; 2 brothers Gerald and James Bragg both of Bloomfield and 2 sisters Sara Downing of Hannibal, Missouri and Sandie Gibson of New Bloomfield, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gary Bragg.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday May 30, 2006 at the Dooley Cemetery southeast of Mark, Iowa with Rev. Steven Houser officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The family will be present from 6:30-8:00 PM Monday. A memorial has been established to his family.
