BLOOMFIELD - CHARLES LEROY HOPKINS, age 70 of Bloomfield died June 20, 2005 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born
August 26, 1934 in Davis County, Iowa to Walter and Pearl Lurene Farabough Hopkins. He had been a resident of Davis County his lifetime and was a farm hand.
He is survived by 4 sisters Dorothy Roberts of Drakesville, Iowa, Katherine Hopkins of Bloomfield, Iowa, Lucille Hopkins of Fairfield, Iowa and Velma Williams of Maple Grove, Minnesota.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Bert and Floyd Hopkins.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday June 23, 2005 at the Taylor Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa with Rev. Bill Eakins officiating. No visitation is planned. A memorial has been established to his family. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is handling the arrangements.
ALBERT CURTIS FOX
BLOOMFIELD - ALBERT CURTIS FOX, age 87 of Las Vegas, Nevada and former Bloomfield resident died June 15, 2005 at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas. He was born
July 25, 1917 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Albert and Ina Sampson Fox. He married
Neva J. Martin, she preceded him in death April 20, 1974. He married
Ardis I. Lister Allen July 21, 1979 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, living most of his life in Bloomfield until moving to Las Vegas in 2003. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield and was a past commander.
He is survived by his wife Ardis Fox of Las Vegas, Nevada; 2 sons Stanleigh G. Fox and wife Dee Lalagos of Wheaton, Illinois and Steve C. Fox of Madison, Virginia; 3 stepsons Richard L. Allen and wife Julie of Manhattan, Kansas and Steve K. Allen and wife Cindy and Larry M. Allen and wife Kim both of Las Vegas, Nevada; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister Helen Pottorff and a brother James Fox.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday June 28, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield, will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. The family will be at the Wagler Funeral Home Monday June 27, 2005 from 5:00-6:00 PM to greet friends. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established.
REBECCA B. DYE
UNIONVILLE - REBECCA B. DYE of Unionville, Iowa died June 16, 2005 in Ottumwa. She was born
May 22, 1940 in Davis County, Iowa to Herman and Helen Miller Dye. She was a registered nurse, working at Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center in Ottumwa.
She is survived by her brother David Dye of Bloomfield, Iowa; a niece Lisa DeYoung of Bloomfield, Iowa and 2 nephews Douglas Dye of Lockridge, Iowa and Daniel Dye of Bloomfield, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers Justus and Allen Dye.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Monday at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Sunday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa.
ADAM J. SCHROCK
BLOOMFIELD - ADAM J. SCHROCK, age 89 of rural Bloomfield died June 8, 2005 at his residence. He was born
December 13, 1915 in Yoder, Kansas to Joseph and Lydia Hostetler Schrock. He married
Malinda Petersheim October 10, 1940 in Dover, Delaware. He was a farmer and had lived in Davis County since 1987. He was a member of the Old Order Amish.
He is survived by his wife; 3 sons Roman of Fredricktown, Ohio, Roy of LaGrange, Indiana and William of Hamilton, Montana; 6 daughters Mattie Detweiler of Bloomfield, Iowa, Rosa Lambright of LaMar, Missouri, Lena Wickey of LaGrange, Indiana, Dora Lambright of Whitehall, Wisconsin, Nancy Yoder of Bloomfield, Iowa and Lydia Ann Miller of Whitehall, Wisconsin; 76 grandchildren; 266 great grandchildren and 3 sisters Katie Borntrager of Kalona, Iowa and Lydia Gingerich and Lizzie Hochstetler both of Clark, Missouri.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; a sister; 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will held at 9:00 AM Saturday, June 11, 2005 at the Daniel Yoder residence 18392 200th Street Bloomfield, Iowa with minister in charge Melvin Schrock.
HOMER STUFFLEBEAM
BLOOMFIELD - HOMER STUFFLEBEAM, age 84 of Iowa City, Iowa and former Bloomfield resident died June 7, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born
June 29, 1920 in Bunch, Iowa to Walter and Sylvia Bean Stufflebeam. He married
Blanche Dearborn December 31, 1947 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He lived most of his life in Bloomfield, until moving to Iowa City in 1999. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked at the Gambles Store in Bloomfield for 14 years. He later worked as a mail carrier, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, holding the offices of deacon and elder for several years. He was also a member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield, the Retired Letter Carriers and the National Multiple Sclerosis Association. He helped organize and was the first president of the Oskaloosa Area Ostomy Association and was a member of the Iowa City Ostomy Association.
He is survived by his wife Blanche Stufflebeam of Iowa City, Iowa; a son Dennis Stufflebeam of Waverly, Iowa and 2 sisters Josie More and Ida Piper both of Drakesville, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters Gail and Beulah Stufflebeam, Nellie Rose and Eunice Knight and a brother Dale Stufflebeam.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday June 10, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday with the family present from 5:00-7:00 PM. Memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church and the Iowa City Ostomy Association.
MAXINE PORTER
BLOOMFIELD - MAXINE PORTER, age 90 of Bloomfield died June 4, 2005 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. She was born
June 24, 1914 in Davis County, Iowa to Cecil and Anna Wilcox Steele. She married
Harry Chester Porter June 28, 1935 in Shelbyville, Missouri, he preceded her in death August 21, 1993. She was a homemaker and lifetime resident of Davis County. She was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge #1 of Bloomfield and enjoyed writing poetry.
She is survived by 5 sons Gary Porter (Shirley) of Milton, Iowa, Terry Porter (Margaret) of Ridgecrest, California, Bary Porter (Ann) of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Mikel Porter (Jane)of Blue Springs, Missouri and Danny Porter (Tess) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a daughter Mary Ann Briggs of Hannibal, Missouri; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son Harry Lee Roy Porter; a grandson Harry Douglas Porter and a brother Larry Steele.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday June 8, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Jason Carle officiating. Burial will be in the Troy Cemetery, Troy, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Troy United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.
LELA LAVON GIBSON
BLOOMFIELD - LELA LAVON GIBSON, age 95 of Bloomfield died May 23, 2005 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born
May 5, 1910 in Schyler County, Missouri to Alden Luttlus and Lena Gingerich Boatman. She married
Carlos Gibson May 17, 1930 in Aledo, Illinois, he preceded her in death February 6, 1956. She had been a resident of Davis County most of her life. She was a homemaker and had worked in the cafeteria at the Bloomfield High School for 10 years. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, the Waubonsie Club and Rebekah Lodge #1 of Bloomfield.
She is survived by 3 sons Monte Gibson and wife JoAnne of Peoria, Illinois, John Gibson and wife Joice of Littleton, Colorado and Donald Gibson and wife Donna of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and a sister Lillieth Brooks of Bloomfield.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son in infancy James William Gibson; 5 sisters Edna Coy, Icle Kight, Venus Hubbartt, Leona Galpin and Ilda Adams and 3 brothers Earl, Bill and Wesley Boatman.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday May 27, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. Open visitaiton will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Thursday. The family will be at the Wagler Funeral Home from 10:00 AM Friday until the time of the service to greet friends. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church.
DENNIS LANGFORD
TROY - DENNIS E. LANGFORD, age 74 of Troy died May 22, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born
October 29, 1930 in Van Buren County, Iowa to Arch Elbert and Bessie Miller Langford. He married
Carol Sloan January 19, 1952 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He had been a finish dozer operator for Estle and DeLong Construction and Reilly Construction.
He is survived by his wife; 2 sons Paul of Des Moines and Doug of Hartland, Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren; a great grandson; a brother Dale Langford of Troy, Iowa and a sister Enid Roberts of Pulaski, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday May 26, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Jack Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Wednesday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the Troy Academy.
VICTOR LOWELL JOHNSON
BLOOMFIELD - VICTOR LOWELL JOHNSON, age 85 of Bloomfield died May 22, 2005 at the Davis County Hospital Long Term Care in Bloomfield. He was born
February 22, 1920 in Agency, Iowa to Wilbur and Bessie Smith Johnson. He married
Marcene Van Pelt March 15, 1952 in Ottumwa, Iowa, she preceded him in death April 1, 2004. He graduated from Agency High School in 1937 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He moved to Bloomfield in 1982 and was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.
He is survived by a brother Ralph Johnson of the Bloomfield; 3 sisters Louise Heston of Ottumwa and Maxine Roulet and Mildred Roulet both of Bloomfield.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial with military rites by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Tuesday at the Wagler Funeral Home, with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
Casket bearers will be Brent and Alan Johnson, Ronald, Keith and Kenneth Roulet and Hubert Gullett.
CARMYN E. MILLER
BLOOMFIELD - CARMYN E. MILLER, age 92 of Grand Forks, North Dakota and former Bloomfield resident died February 5, 2005 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks. She was born
February 13, 1912 in Moulton, Iowa to Charles Edgar and Susann Murphy Evans. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and attended Bloomfield Junior College. She married
Curtis Jeremiah Miller February 13, 1942 in Bloomfield, Iowa, he preceded her in death August 1, 1976. She and her husband were lifelong farmers in Davis County and operated a Television and Electronics Store. She was a member of the Pulaski Mennonite Church, Friendship Chapter #46 Order of the Eastern Star in Bloomfield and the Past Matrons Club.
She is survived by a daughter Diana (Noel) LeTexier of Grand Forks, North Dakota; a granddaughter Robin Cook of Grand Forks, North Dakota; a grandson Curtis LeTexier of Grand Forks, North Dakota; a sister Marne Bond of Memphis, Tennessee and a brother Leonel Evans of Lakeland, Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers Charles and Carlyle Evans and a sister LaVelma Seydel.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday May 25, 2005 at the Pulaski Mennonite Church with Pastor Darrell Zook officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM Wednesday morning until the time of the service. A memorial has been established to the Pulaski Mennonite Church. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
EDWARD L. ANDERSON
BLOOMFIELD - EDWARD L. ANDERSON, age 85 of Bloomfield died May 18, 2005 at his home. He was born
July 18, 1919 in Grand Mound, Iowa to William and Ruby Allen Anderson. He married
Opal Duffield April 22, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He had been a mechanic at Harris Motor in Bloomfield. He was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield and the VFW.
He is survived by his wife; 3 sons Robert Anderson of Adel, Iowa, Bruce Anderson of Bloomfield, Iowa and Barry Anderson of Ft. Worth, Texas; a daughter Barbara Williams of Urbandale, Iowa; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son Billy Anderson; 2 brothers Alfred and Elmer Anderson and a sister in infancy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday May 23, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Military rites will be performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. Family visitation will from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Burial of the cremains will be in the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa at a later date. Memorials in lieu of flowers have been established to Hospice, Inc. and the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library.
