September 19, 1927 in Pennville, Missouri to Everett and Nellie Maude Gray Snow. He married
Dorothy M. Rouse June 3, 1946 in Kirksville, Missouri, she preceded him in death December 11, 2000. He was a coal miner and had been a resident of Milan for the past 2 years.
He is survived by 7 sons Kenneth of Corydon, Iowa, Ivan of Milan, Missouri, Jerry of Ottumwa, Iowa, Lessley of Centerville, Iowa, Ralph Richard of Corydon, Iowa, Johnny of Floris, Iowa and Roy of Unionville, Iowa; 4 daughters Rita Boley of Lovilla, Iowa, Connie Veeder of Milan, Missouri, Carolyn Edgington of Plano, Iowa and Shirley Jacob of Milan, Missouri; 41 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; a brother William Snow of Kansas City, Missouri and a sister Maxine Sandstrom of Kansas City, Missouri
He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Roy Craig; wife; 2 sons Norman and Herbert Snow; a brother Lloyd Snow and a sister Hester Singleton.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday October 11, 2005 at the Snow Family Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa with Rev Richard Burger officiating. No visitation is planned. A memorial has been established to his family. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
ELEXENE LANG
BLOOMFIELD - ELEXENE LANG, age 80 of Clive, Iowa and former Davis County resident died October 1, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born
November 27, 1924 in Davis County, Iowa to Roy and Zoe Holley Bowling. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1941. She married
LaVerne Lang November 29, 1942 in Queen City, Missouri. She was a partner in business with her husband at Lang’s Jewelry both in Bloomfield and later in Muscatine. Upon retirement she had been a resident of Clive for the past 5 years. She was a former member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star in Muscatine and various vocal musical groups. Her joys in life centered around music, tending her home, her family and pets.
She is survived by her husband; 3 daughters Mary Lang-Smith of West Des Moines, Iowa, Martha Lang of Muscatine, Iowa and Margaret (and husband Luca) Berrone of Waukee, Iowa; 5 grandchildren – William Smith (wife Frances), Joshua (wife Linda) Smith, Stefanie Smith and Tyler and Daniela Berrone and great granddaughter Jacqueline Smith. She is also survived by her niece Kathy Wetrich and nephew Randy Bowling and their mother Betty Bowling and their respective families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers George and Don Bowling; an infant daughter Molly and her sisters Betty and Mary Ellen Bowling.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday October 5, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. ELDORA LEON
BLOOMFIELD - ELDORA LEON, age 87 of Bloomfield died October 1, 2005 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. She was born
July 9, 1918 in Appanoose County, Iowa to James D. and Mary J. Hoffman Jones. She married
Max Leon July 22, 1939 in Memphis, Missouri. She lived most of her life in Davis County and was a cook for the Davis County Schools for several years. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge #1 in Bloomfield and served as memorial chairperson for the American Cancer Society for several years.
She is survived by her husband and a daughter Mary Lynn (Joe) Stufflebeam all of Bloomfield.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Karen Diane Leon and a brother Charles Jones.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday October 4, 2005 at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, the family will be present from 6:00-7:30 PM. Memorials have been established to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library.
SAMUEL A. THOMAS
UNIONVILLE. SAMUEL A. THOMAS, age 78 of Unionville, Iowa died September 30, 2005 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born
May 22, 1927 in Memphis, Missouri to Charles and Edna Belle Wilkins Thomas. He married
Mary Lou Hopkins June 8, 1948 in Lockridge, Iowa. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a weatherman. A resident of Davis County most of his life he was a farmer. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; a son Ronald Thomas of Unionville, Iowa; 2 daughters Sharon Bolin and Barbara Harrington both of Unionville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 4 sisters Caroline Daugherty of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Gladys Shelton of Arkansas, Cora Mae Davis of Moulton, Iowa and Mary Brooks of Harlan, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers James Calvin Thomas, Charles Thomas, Jr. and Herman Grant Thomas and 4 sisters Ellen Reisch, Doris Poling, Myrtle Thomas and Charlene Thomas.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday October 3, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Revs. Kevin Gingerich and Jim Matheney officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield, will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Sunday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars.
ROWENA HASELHOFF
BLOOMFIELD - ROWENA HASELHOFF, age 89 of Bloomfield died September 7, 2005 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born
November 6, 1915 in Leon, Iowa to Dr. Claire and Rhoda Belle Hinman Mitchell. She married
Alvin John “Randy” Haselhoff January 19, 1946 in Washington D.C., he preceded her in death in 1970. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1933, Simpson College in 1937 and received a Master’s Degree from State University of Iowa in 1947. She was a teacher and taught in College Springs, Clear Lake, Bradgate, Lineville and Bloomfield. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Retired Teachers Association, the Davis County Historical Society and the Business and Professional Women.
She is survived by a daughter Mary Tymeson of Ames, Iowa; 3 sons Richard Haselhoff of Bloomfield, Iowa, John Haselhoff of El Paso, Texas and Donald Haselhoff of Las Vegas, Nevada; 6 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Beulah Mitchell.
According to her wishes her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy. No services are planned. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Historical Society. Arrangements are being handled by the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
WILLIAM WRAY GRIM
BLOOMFIELD - WILLIAM WRAY GRIM, age 63 of Bloomfield died September 5, 2005 at his home. He was born
November 23, 1941 in Davis County, Iowa to Walter Scott and Mabel Kline Grim. He had been a resident of Davis County his lifetime and worked with First Resources. He was affiliated with the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
He is survived by 4 sisters Marie Benge of Bloomfield, Iowa, Garnett Storm of Bettendorf, Iowa, Florence Whisler of Eldridge, Iowa and Karen Luther of Nashville, Tennessee.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Dean Grim and Walter Lee Grim.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday September 10, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Terry Flynn officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel South Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday with the family present from 6:00-7:30 PM. A memorial has been established to the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
STEVEN E. HARWARD
FLORIS - STEVEN E. HARWARD, age 53 of Floris, Iowa died September 6, 2005 at his home. He was born
June 30, 1952 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Charles and Maxine Gilland Harward. He married
Dawn R. Christy May 27, 1972 in Floris, Iowa. He was a lifetime resident of Floris and was a 1970 graduate of Davis County Community High School. He worked at John Deere in Ottumwa for 30 years, retiring in 2002. He was a former member of the Floris Christian Church and attended the Floris Baptist Church. He was a former mayor of Floris and was presently serving on the City Council.
He is survived by his wife; 2 sons Michael Harward and Christopher Harward both of Floris; 5 grandchildren Gary, Kaitlyn, McKenna, Jordan and Bailey and his parents Charles and Maxine Harward of Floris.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday September 9, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Gordon Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Floris Cemetery in Floris, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the City of Floris.
GARY W. PORTER
TROY - GARY W. PORTER, age 67 of Milton, Iowa died August 25, 2005 at his home. He was born
March 18, 1938 in Davis County, Iowa to Harry Chester and Maxine Steele Porter. He married
Shirley Bollman April 10, 1959 in Davis County, Iowa. He had been a resident of Davis County his lifetime and had graduated from Troy High School in 1955. He was a farmer and had worked at Morrell’s in Ottumwa for 17 years. He was affiliated with the Troy United Methodist Church and was a member of the Davis County Cattleman’s Association, Past President of the Troy Park Board, Past Firefighters Board member in Milton and was a past Noble Grand of the Troy IOOF Lodge. He had also been a member of the Davis County Democratic Committee for 42 years, serving as county chairman and treasurer and was a past Union Township Clerk. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife; a son Cary (Christina) Porter of New Palestine, Indiana; a daughter Teri (Michael) McClure of Bloomfield, Iowa; 4 grandchildren Chad, Chris and Chelsea Porter and Myles McClure; 4 brothers Terry (Margaret) Porter of Ridgecrest, California, Bary (Ann) Porter of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Mikel (Jane) Porter of Blue Springs, Missouri and Danny (Tess) Porter of Colorado Springs, Colorado and a sister Mary Ann Briggs of Hannibal, Missouri.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Harry Lee Roy Porter and a nephew Doug Porter.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday August 30, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Jason Carle officiating. Burial will be in the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday with the family present from 6:00-7:30 PM. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society and Hospice, Inc.
JOSHUA JOEL JOHNSON
BLOOMFIELD - JOSHUA JOEL JOHNSON, age 39, of Maxwell, Iowa, and former Davis County resident. Died August 18, 2005, in Story County Iowa near Roland, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born
April 6, 1966, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Robert L. and Hazel Miller Johnson. He was a repo man, and worked for Trainwell Credit Services. He had been a resident of Maxwell since 1992. He graduated from Davis Community High School in 1984.
He is survived by his mother, Hazel Pennington, of Mexico,Missouri, 2 daughters, Dreamie Nicole Johnson, of Linden, Iowa, and Bobbie Lee Johnson, of Bondurant, Iowa, 1 son, Elijah Tate Johnson, of Bondurant, Iowa, a brother, Justin Hennings, of Mexico, Missouri, and 2 sisters, Carla Ann Brown, of Douds, Iowa, and Marie Annette Johnson, of Wichita, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday August 23, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa, with Rev. Bert Johnson officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the Taylor Cemetery, in Appanoose County, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
TERRY L. DOWNING
BLOOMFIELD - TERRY L. DOWNING, age 52 of rural Bloomfield died August 12, 2005 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born
February 10, 1953 in Keosauqua, Iowa to Manie Charles and Betty Farris Downing. He married
Mary “Cissie” Cline November 5, 1989 in Newton, Iowa. He was a lifetime resident of Davis County and graduated from Davis County High School in 1971. He worked for Iowa Bridge and Culvert as a carpenter. He was affiliated with Calvary Community Church in Pulaski, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife; a son Jeremy Knox of Iowa City, Iowa; a daughter Mandie (John) Replogle of Moulton, Iowa; his mother Betty Downing of Drakesville, Iowa; a brother Gary Downing of Baring, Missouri and a sister Sharon Kay Boyer of Floris, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday August 17, 2005 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Doran Bollman officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. The family will be at the funeral home for visitation from noon until the time of the service Wednesday. A memorial has been established to his family.
MARVIN G. WILKINSON
BLOOMFIELD - MARVIN G. WILKINSON, age 88 of Bloomfield died August 12, 2005 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born
January 19, 1917 in Wapello County, Iowa near Eldon to Leo and Edna Wilkinson Bureker. He was raised by his grandparents Gideon and Emma Wilkinson. He married
Opal F. Sloan in January 1946, she preceded him in death August 7, 1980. He married
Mildred Taylor Bailey November 9, 1985 in Drakesville, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II, earning the Purple Heart. He had been a resident of Bloomfield since 1985. He worked at John Deere in Ottumwa for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Drakesville United Methodist Church, Walter B. Schafer Post #775 VFW and O.B. Nelson Post # 3 American Legion both in Ottumwa and CC Camp at Lake Wapello.
He is survived by his wife; 2 sons Douglas Wilkinson of Springfield, Missouri and Ricky Wilkinson of Ottumwa, Iowa; a daughter Dianna Stafford of Monroe, Iowa; 3 stepsons Gary Bailey of Pulaski, Iowa and Dean and Roger Bailey both of Bloomfield, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; a brother Lawrence Wilkinson of Eldon, Iowa and a sister Margaret Hull of Douds, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents; step father; a brother Lloyd Wilkinson; 2 half brothers; a half sister and 2 grandsons.
