Albert Hilmer

Albert D. "Bud" Hilmer, 81, of Keokuk, died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born Jan. 5, 1924, in Evan–ston, Ill., he was the son of Albert G. and Ruby Dollery Hilmer. On Sept. 22, 1946, he married Charlotte M. Deiling in Keokuk.

Mr. Hilmer worked for US West for 32 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and served in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. He was a resident of Keokuk most of his life and was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk. He served two terms on the Keokuk City Council, volunteered on the Geo. M. Verity River Front Museum, was a member of American Legion of Keokuk and active in military honor guard.

Survivors include his wife; one son, John D. Hilmer of Indianapolis; one daughter, Dianne M. Foglesong of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; and one great–grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Hilmer will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greaves Mortuary, with the Revs. Hoyt Whitebread and Brian Rihner officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Keokuk Area Hospital and the Veterans Memorial.

Betty Reynolds

Betty I. Reynolds, 72, of Monmouth, Ill., died at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville, Ill.

Born May 4, 1932, in Rozetta, Ill., she was the daughter of Verl Glenn and Selma Martinson McIntyre. She married Raymond Reynolds and they later divorced.

Ms. Reynolds worked for Wells Pet Foods in Monmouth and waited tables at the Filling Station III restaurant in Monmouth to put herself through nursing school.

She was raised and educated in the rural Monmouth area and was a graduate of high school. She also received her nursing certification from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Ill. She enjoyed traveling, socializing, crafting and playing cards. She also was a great seamstress. She enjoyed bowling and bowled in the league for several years.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth L. Reynolds of Oquawka, Ill., and Gary E. Reynolds of Burlington; three grandsons; two great–grandchildren; and a number of stepgrandchildren and stepgreat–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and four brothers.

Visitation will be Friday and Saturday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The funeral for Ms. Reynolds will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Turnbull Funeral Home, with Linden Beard of Roseville officiating. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Alan Green

Alan Thomas Green, 43, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Burlington, died in Portland. Arrangements are pending at Lunning Chapel.

A.J. Thomason

A.J. Thomason, 72, of Carthage, Ill., died at 3:18 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

Born May 17, 1933, in Tremble, Tenn., he was the son of Dewey and Hooper Henson Thomason. In 1951, he married Bonnie McGraw. In 1967, he married Carolyn Thompson. In 1996, he married Ruth Ann White Hopping in LaHarpe, Ill.

Mr. Thomason owned his own roofing and siding contracting business most of his life and also operated the Towne House Motel in Carthage for more than six years.

He was a member of Blandinsville Lions Club in Blandinsville, Ill., and helped organize the farmer's picnic each year. He also sponsored the Blandinsville baseball teams for many years.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Terry Thomason of Carthage; two daughters, Kathy Thomas of Burlington and Angie Thomason of Blandinsville; one stepdaughter, Christina Angelo of Galesburg, Ill.; two stepsons, Ronald Hopping of Galesburg and Russell Hopping of Florida; 29 grandchildren and great–grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Jean Haskett of Horn Beak, Tenn., and Mary Hyde of Lake County, Tenn.; and three brothers, Rex Thomason of Troy, Tenn., James Thomason of Dyesburg, Tenn., and Roger Thomason of Hohenwald, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by one infant brother, his parents and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Thomason will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Printy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.

A memorial has been established for Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

Dianna Derr

Dianna Lynn Derr, 50, of Argyle, died at 5:15 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Montrose Health Center.

Born Dec. 18, 1954, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of George "Bud" and Mary LeMaster Toops. On March 11, 1977, she married Jerry Derr in Kahoka, Mo.

Mrs. Derr was a nurse's aide at Clark County Nursing Home. She also worked for Sheaffer Pen Co. and the Donnellson Library.

She served as secretary of Oakland Sand Cemetery in Vincennes.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Janice Derr of Charleston, Ill.; her mother of St. Francisville; she was briefly survived by her father who died later the same day; two brothers, Tom Toops of St. Francisville and Mark Toops of Montrose; two sisters, Joyce Nye of Argyle and Brenda White of Montrose; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hofbauer–Schmitz–Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Derr will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hofbauer–Schmitz–Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Maurice Moore officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Sand Cemetery in Vincennes.

A memorial has been established.

Betty McAtee

Betty McAtee, 85, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 9:45 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at Lexington Square in Keokuk. Arrangements are pending at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton.

Anna Housewright

Anna Madge Housewright, 89, of Carthage, Ill., formerly of Burnside, Ill., died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.

Born July 3, 1915, near LaCrosse, Ill., she was the daughter of Ernest and Dora Duncan Dunn. On July 3, 1933, she married Millard Otis "Mo" Housewright. He died Nov. 28, 1991.

Mrs. Housewright was a homemaker and helped her husband farm in the Burnside area. She and her husband also operated Housewright Soil Service in Burnside for many years.

She attended Roseville and McGuffy elementary schools and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage. She and her husband retired in 1982 and moved to Carthage. She was a member of Pilot Grove Pastime Club for more than 30 years. She loved to grow flowers, garden and collect snowmen.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Wheelock of Quincy, Ill.; two sons, Don Housewright of Carthage and Richard Housewright of Cape Coral, Fla.; seven grandchildren; seven great–grandsons; two sisters, Frances Boyer of Carthage and Louise Collins of LaHarpe, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren and one sister.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Housewright will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, with the Rev. Greg G. Busboom officiating. Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.

Memorials have been established for the Carthage Clipper Volunteer Fire Department and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Alice O'Toole

Alice Vera O'Toole, 92, of Oquawka, Ill., died at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Arrangements are pending at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka.

Agnes King

Agnes Elizabeth Mueller King, 92, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Jan. 1, 1913, in Hough–ton, she was the daughter of Henry and Rose Mehmert Lampe. On Sept. 12, 1933, she married Herbert Mueller. He died March 30, 1986. She later married Illif King, who also preceded her in death.

Mrs. King was a homemaker and also worked in retail.

She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She and her first husband lived in Florida for many years and traveled in a motor home until returning to Mount Pleasant in the mid 1980s. She enjoyed crocheting.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Mueller of Tulsa, Okla., and Gary Mueller of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Marilyn Calhoun of Mount Pleasant, Karen Garrison of Cedar Falls and Mary Hatala of Waverly; 16 grandchildren, 32 great–grandchildren; two great–great–grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Lampe and Adrian Lampe, both of Houghton; and two sisters, Mildred Bergthold of West Point and Bernice Nichting of Houghton.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

The Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. King will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Angelina Spading

Angelina Spading, 92, of Burlington, formerly of Victor, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 28, 1912, near Parnell, she was the daughter of Edward Patrick and Bridget Kelly Walsh. On May 24, 1938, she married Harvey T. Spading in Parnell. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Spading and her husband farmed north of Brooklyn and moved to a farm west of Victor in 1944. She also taught in elementary schools until her marriage and resumed teaching at St. John's Elementary School in Victor during the 1950s and 60s until it closed in 1969.

She attended a rural one–room schoolhouse and later was a 1929 graduate of Parnell High School. She received her teacher's diploma from Ottumwa Heights College in 1932. Throughout the 1960s she attended the University of Iowa to further her teaching credentials. She was a resident of Poweshiek County until 1997 and then made her home at Prairie Village in Rantoul, Ill., and later at The Kensington in Fort Madison prior to moving to Klein Center in Burlington in 2002.

She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor, past president of District DCCW, a member of Altar and Rosary Society, Marian Study Club, and WWW Club. She served as secretary and as representative on the Diocesan Board of Education, resource person and librarian for CCD, and was a chairwoman of the Poweshiek County of VIP Committee and Precinct Chairwoman of Warren Township. During 1934, she assisted in the founding of seven libraries in Iowa County.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Kay Wright of Burlington, Janet Kohen of San Diego, Rosemarie Cowan of Albuquerque, N.M., and Michele Spading–Chittick of Champaign, Ill.; one son, John Spading of Issaquah, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; nine great–grandchildren; one brother, Ed Walsh of California; and one sister, Agnes Wetjen of Williamsburg.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home in Victor, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A Scripture service will follow at 7 p.m.

The funeral mass for Mrs. Spading will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor, with the Rev. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Victor.

A memorial has been established.
