PELLA — Anna Nunnikhoven, 99, of Pella, died Oct. 24, 2007.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 29, at 10:30 a.m. in the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. Visitation will begin on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 9 a.m. at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home; family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella. Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

NELLIE VELDHUIZEN

OSKALOOSA — Nellie Veldhuizen, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Dale Visser officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. There will be a Family Prayer Service Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall in the basement of the church, led by the Rev. Kenneth Dykstra. Arrangements are by the Bates Funeral Chapel of Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin at the funeral chapel on Tuesday at noon; the family will be present from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Larry C. Roberts
(July 27, 1939 - January 28, 2012)

Larry Roberts Eldon and formerly of Deep River. Larry C. Roberts,72 of Eldon and formerly of Deep River, Iowa passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Ottumwa Good Samaritan Health and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside funeral services will begin at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Golden Rod Cemetery at Deep River, Iowa. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 31 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Friends may send condolences or sign the online guestbook at www.hollandcoblefuneralhome.com.

Larry Clarence Roberts, son of Clarence Roberts and Audrey E. Farley Roberts was born icon on July 27, 1939 in Davis County near Bloomfield, Iowa. He graduated from Ottumwa High with the class of 1959. He married icon Beverly L. Fitzsimmons on January 16, 1961 at Ottumwa, Iowa. To this union one son was born, Larry Anthony.

Larry enjoyed being a Cub Scout leader while helping his son, being the Mayor of Deep River, and serving on the City Council for the city of Deep River for several years. He worked for Amana Refrigeration at Middle Amana for 35 years. After retiring, he worked part-time at Brownells in Montezuma for five years.

He enjoyed model cars and airplanes, attending air shows and car shows, Nascar, the balloon classics, and liked to travel with his wife.

Larry is survived by his wife, Beverly, his eight grandchildren; Jessica Carter, Elizabeth Carter, and Katie Carter all of Eldon, Aaron Fitzsimmons, Meghan Fitzsimmons and Kyli Fitzsimmons all of Bonaparte, Shayla Glasgow and Shannyn Glasgow both of Ankeny; three great grandchildren, Emma Oleary, Jaykub Oleary and Korbyn Oleary all of Eldon and his brother Lloyd O. Roberts of Marysville, WA.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his son Larry Anthony, and his sisters Sylvia Roberts, Clarice Jean Murray and Ruth Anderson.

John "Linc" Provin
(Died January 11, 2012)

John Provin, 82 of Eldora and formerly of Barnes City passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eldora. Memorial services will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma with Pastor Boyd Sparks officiating. Burial will be held in the Barnes City Cemetery in Barnes City. Memorials may be made in the family's name.

John Lincoln "Linc" Provin was born icon on February 12, 1929 to Carl and Ruby (Back) Provin near North English. He graduated from Guernsey High School with the class of 1947. Linc enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 where he served as Chief Cook in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953. On January 8, 1953, Linc was united in marriage to Janette McConnell in Spring Valley, MN. To this union three children were born, Wesley, baby boy (died in infancy) and Karla. They later divorced. He was married icon to Margaret Groette and together they had one son B.J. They later divorced. On August 27, 1980, Linc married icon Josephine White in South English. Linc was a carpenter where he did bridge work and built drive-in theaters. He also was a machinist at John Deere for 13 years. He did iron work with the Ironworkers Union Local 89. After this, he began working for Cunningham Heating and Cooling in Oskaloosa where he was injured and became disabled. He was self employed in a variety of businesses. His hobbies included fishing, dancing, collecting scrap metal and recycling. His final years were in the company of his dog, Tippy. He belonged to several different union organizations.

He is survived by his wife Josephine of Montezuma, his son Benjamin (Chris) Provin of Mason City and his daughter Karla (Marty) Loonan of Waterloo; several grandchildren, his brother Cleo (Jerilyn) Provin of Waterloo, his sisters Virginia McHenry of Tuscan, AZ., Della Phelps of Barnes City, and Elaine Musgrove of Oskaloosa.

Linc was preceded in death by his infant son, his son Wesley Lloyd Provin, his brother George Washington Provin, and his sisters Doris Darland and Rose Lust.

Lynn Johnson
(Died January 12, 2012)

Lynn Johnson, 65 of Iowa City passed away January 12, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Monday, January 16, 2012 with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the West Liberty Cemetery west of Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the family's name.

Lynn Albert Johnson, son of Lyle and Rose (Onthank) Johnson was born icon on April 10, 1946 in Grinnell, Iowa. He was a 1964 graduate of BGM High School in Brooklyn. Shortly after high school, Lynn enlisted in the United States Navy. He served from 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1970. Lynn married icon Mary Little and they had two children, Bud and Brian. They later divorced. Lynn was then united in marriage to Beverly Boyd. To this union two children were born, Harmony and Allan. They later divorced. Lynn worked for Earl May, then he worked for Culligan as a salesman before he started working for himself as a carpenter. His passion was his carpentry work. He restored courthouse benches, antique furniture, bird houses, porch swings and there wasn't anything he couldn't build. Lynn has an interest for leather crafting, building custom made fishing rods, restoring antique furniture and fishing. He was a member of the Newton Jay Cee's and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his mother, Rose Johnson of Grinnell; four children, Bud Johnson of Eddyville, Bryan (Kelli) Johnson of Olathe, Kansas, Allan (Richelle Davis) Johnson of Eddyville and Harmony (Eric) Edge of Truax, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with one on the way and his special friend, Sandy Fluaitt of Iowa City.

Lynn is preceded in death by his father, Lyle Johnson.

Margaret Peters
(Died January 13, 2012)

Margaret Peters, 100, of Cedar Rapids died Friday, January 13, 2012. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in Jackson Township Cemetery at Montezuma. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma United Methodist Church.

Margaret Sarah Peters was born icon in Montezuma, Iowa on February 24, 1911 the daughter of Joseph and Beryl Dunton Ammann. She was a 1928 graduate of the Brooklyn High School. Margaret lived most of her life in the Montezuma area where she and her husband operated the family farm. Margaret was an excellent cook and an extraordinary seamstress. She often made Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls and a variety of embroidering projects. Margaret was a charter member of the Willing Workers, the Montezuma United Methodist Church and the Dorcas Class.She is survived by her son George and wife Vera Peters of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren: Ramona Darrah of Palo, Stephanie Peters of Cedar Rapids, Joe Peters of Mount Vernon and Rev. Ray Peters of Minden.

Her memory will also be honored by twelve great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Beryl Ammann, husband Ralph Peters; infant son Gerald Peters; a sister Helen Johnston and two brothers Michael Ammann and infant Willard Ammann.

Kenneth Allan Gatton
(July 21, 1929 - February 4, 2012)

Kenneth Gatton, 82, of What Cheer died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Serenity House Hospice in Oskaloosa. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8th at the Holland-Coble Funeral Chapel in What Cheer. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday with the family present from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery near What Cheer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to What Cheer Fire and Rescue or Serenity House Hospice of Oskaloosa.

Kenneth Allan Gatton was born icon July 21, 1929 near What Cheer, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Grace Wood Gatton. After he completed grammar school, Kenneth began farming in the What Cheer area. On July 3, 1953, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Jarvis in Iowa City. To this union, two sons were born. Kenneth was extremely passionate about his farm. During his career he sold sixty-four crops and received two Iowa Corn Master’s back to back as well as, an Iowa Soy Bean Master’s Award. Kenneth led by example through hard work, honesty, and integrity. He treasured his family, farming, and fishing. He also enjoyed gardening and mushroom hunting. Regardless of how busy he was, Kenneth always made time for his grandchildren. He taught them to believe that it is not a problem, if it can be solved.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Keith Gatton, and his wife Barbara.

Kenneth is survived by two sons: Mike (Cindy) Gatton of What Cheer and Steve (Renee) Gatton of Delta. His legacy will be honored by six grandchildren: Joe (Stacey) Gatton of Beacon, Avery (Bethany) Gatton of New Sharon, Ben Gatton of What Cheer, Sarah (Mike) Hughes of Oskaloosa, Courtney (Dana) Banks of Clinton, MO, and Kendall (Lindsey) Gatton of Harper. Kenneth’s life was also blessed with seventeen great-grandchildren.

Larry Max Steele
(September 7, 1935 - February 7, 2012)

Larry Steele, 76 of Montezuma passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Thursday, February 9, 2012 with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the West Liberty Cemetery West of Montezuma.

Larry Max Steele, son of Ray B. and Orpha L. (Miller) Steele was born icon September 7, 1935 west of Montezuma. He graduated from Montezuma High School. Larry enlisted in the United States Army in 1958 serving his time in Germany as a mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1962. He married icon Marilyn Stigers Allgood on August 6, 1971 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She passed away on September 19, 1993. On January 4, 1998, Larry was united in marriage to P. Jean Kanselaar. He worked as a mechanic at Beaty Brother's Dodge Garage in Grinnell and Vannoy Chevrolet in Montezuma, before becoming the Supervisor of the Gas Department for the City of Montezuma. Larry enjoyed camping, hunting and restoring his dads Oliver tractor with his grandson, Travis. He also enjoyed selling and using metal detectors. Larry was a member of the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, P. Jean Steele of Montezuma; his children, Dianna Buffington, Michael Allgood, Deborah Johannes, Dean Kanselaar, Don Kanselaar and Trish Kanselaar; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife; Marilyn and his five brothers, Glenn, Art, Alden, Wesley and Marvin.

Frances Mildred Pringle
(December 27, 1917 - February 10, 2012)

Frances Pringle, 94 of Ottumwa and formerly of What Cheer died Friday, February 10, 2012. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Monday. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery at What Cheer. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the What Cheer Fire & Rescue.

Frances Mildred Pringle was born icon December 27, 1917 in What Cheer, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Inez Sproul Pringle. She was a 1936 graduate of the What Cheer High School and a member of the Indianapolis Club. Frances devoted her life to her family and their farm. She found pleasure in beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She loved to sew, crochet and make quilts.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Joseph and James Pringle; a niece Connie Pringle and a nephew Daniel Pringle.

Frances is survived by a brother, Dale (Bud) Pringle of What Cheer; four nephews: Larry (Karla) Pringle of Burke, VA., Ron (Marna) Pringle of Aurora, CO., Richard Pringle of Littleton, CO. and Ken Pringle of Iowa City, IA.; four nieces: Sheryl (Jim) Johnson of Fort Lupton, CO., Cathy Pringle of Ottumwa, IA., Cindy (David) Curtis of Ottumwa, IA., and Kelly (Mark) Fitzsimmons of Redwing, MN. She also leaves behinds eighteen great nieces and nephews, eighteen great-great nieces and nephews and three great-great-great nieces.

Velda E. Andersen
(October 29, 1914 - February 12, 2012)

Velda Andersen, 97, of Montezuma passed away peacefully Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Marble Valley Cemetery near Gilmore City, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 Thursday morning at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Velda E. Andersen, was born icon on October 29, 1914 to Erie and Bertha Elliott in Montezuma, Iowa. She grew up in Deep River, Iowa. After graduating from Deep River High School, she graduated from William Penn College. On December 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Gerald Andersen in Lancaster, Missouri. In 1946 they moved to Gilmore City, Iowa where they lived many years. She continued to make her home there following Gerald's death in 1984. In 1995, she moved to Montezuma to be near family.

Velda lived quietly but deeply and enjoyed reading, knitting, jigsaw puzzles and especially her family. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Gilmore City and was a former organist there.

Those left to honor her memory are her daughter, Janet (Larry) Bergeson of Montezuma; her two grandchildren, Heidi (Jeff) Roete and Noel Brown; five great grandchildren, Becca and Allie Brown, Abby, Amy and Andrew Roete and a son-in-law, Dick Eversmeyer.

Velda was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald and a daughter, Linda Evermeyer.
