February 23, 1932 in Wapello County, Iowa to Paul and Beulah Frazier George. She married
Wayne Sample May 17, 1959 in Davis County, Iowa. She was a resident of Davis County most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
She is survived by her husband; 2 daughters Ellen Schumaker of Bloomfield, Iowa and Debra Lowe of Pulaski, Iowa; 4 grandchildren and 2 sisters Iva Mae Milbourn of Kansas City, Missouri and Paulene Selix of Camdenton, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday October 3, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Terry Flynn officiating. Burial will be in the Sherman Chapel Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday with the family present from 6:30-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to her family.
LeROY KNERR
BLOOMFIELD - LeROY KNERR, age 78 of Marshalltown, Iowa and former Bloomfield resident died October 2, 2006 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. He was born
May 2, 1928 in Brighton, Iowa to Roy and Belva Ferrier Knerr. He married
Audrey M. Fox August 16, 1951 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She preceded him in death April 11, 2000. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Knerr Jewelry in Bloomfield for several years. He had been a resident of Marshalltown for the past year and a half. He was a member of the Drakesville United Methodist Church, the American Legion in Moulton, Iowa and was a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Perry, Iowa.
He is survived by a son Kevin Knerr of Bloomfield, Iowa; 2 daughters Debra Knerr of Des Moines, Iowa and Jackie (Dave) Davis of Bloomfield, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 4 brothers Bob, Jack and Larry Dean Knerr all of Washington, Iowa and Richard Knerr of Wellman, Iowa and 2 sisters Lois Freeman of Danville, Iowa and Edna Mae Crawford of Washington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and a brother Eugene Knerr.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday October 6, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by the Burl McClure Post #280 of the American Legion in Moulton, will be in the Sunset View Cemetery in Moulton, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to his family.
KATIE A. MULLETT
PULASKI - KATIE A. MULLETT, age 69 of rural Pulaski, Iowa died October 14, 2006 at her home. She was born
February 17, 1937 in Hazelton, Iowa to Andrew and Naomi Gingerich Kauffman. She married
Henry Mullett Jr. December 6, 1956. She was a homemaker and had lived in Davis County since February 1969. She was a member of the Old Order Amish.
She is survived by her husband; 8 sons Dan, Elmer, Henry, Andy, Leroy, John, Enos and Joseph all of Davis and Van Buren Counties; 5 daughters Miriam, Emma, Sarah and Orpha all of Davis County and Mary of Redding, Iowa; 75 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 6 grandchildren; a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday October 18, 2006 at the Vernon Miller residence 27420 Wheat Ave. Milton, Iowa. Burial will be in the Plain View Amish Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. Visitation will be held on October 16 and 17 at the Vernon Miller residence. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is assisting the family.
MAX E. LEON
BLOOMFIELD - MAX E. LEON, age 88 of Bloomfield died October 28, 2006 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born
April 11, 1918 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Frank and Mayme Ekins Leon. He married
Eldora Jones July 22, 1939 in Memphis, Missouri. She preceded him in death October 1, 2005. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a resident of Davis County most of his life and was a custodian at the Davis County Schools for several years. He was affiliated with the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and was a member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.
He is survived by a daughter Mary Lynn (Joe) Stufflebeam of Bloomfield; a brother L.E. Rufus Leon of Bloomfield; 3 sisters Mary Ann Frymoyer and Florence Modrell both of Ottumwa and Helen Howell of Mesa, Arizona.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter Karen Leon and 5 brothers Jack, Joe and Van Leon and 2 brothers in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday October 31, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Burial of the cremains will be in the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa, Thursday November 2, 2006 at 11:00 AM with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday with the family present from 6:00-7:30 PM. Memorials have been established to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.
ANNITA DORINE HOCKERSMITH
PULASKI - ANNITA DORINE HOCKERSMITH, age 68 of Pulaski, Iowa died November 1, 2006 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri. She was born
October 13, 1938 in Milton, Iowa to Carl V. and Selma Payne Andrews. She married
Dwight E. Hockersmith December 27, 1957 in Vista, Calfornia. He preceded her in death February 26, 2001. She had been a resident of Pulaski since 1959. She was a nurse at the Davis County Hospital for several years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Rosy Red Hatters and the Davis County Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a Patient Advocate for the Long Term Care-Davis County Hospital, a SHIIP Volunteer and former member of the Pulaski City Council.
She is survived by 3 daughters Nola Kean of Charlotte, North Carolina, Nanette West of Kansas City, Missouri and Nina (Michael) Egenreider of Columbus, Ohio; 7 grandchildren and a brother Mike (Dixie) Andrews of Burlington, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 PM Saturday November 4, 2006 at the Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, Iowa with Rev. ellis andrews officiating. A gathering with family and friends will follow the service at the Troy Park Board Building. A memorial has been established to the Troy United Methodist Church. The body has been donated to the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Delores Jean Campbell-Meadows
Delores Jean Campbell-Meadows of Palo Alto, California passed away on May 25, 2008, at the age of 78, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. While visiting in Ottumwa Delores experienced sudden cardiac arrest and was air lifted to Des Moines.
Delores was born
May 28, 1929, in rural Wapello County, to Mack and Lola Rudd Campbell. She was their only child. She attended Oak Grove School in Davis County and Stuart School in Ottumwa. She was a 1946 graduate of Ottumwa High School and attended the University of Iowa. She had been employed by Iowa-Illinois Gas Company in Ottumwa.
Delores married
L. Thomas Meadows on August 19, 1951 at the Wesley Methodist Church in Ottumwa. Upon her husbands return from service in Germany they relocated to California. She had been a resident of Palo Alto, California since 1962. She was an active member of the United Wesley Methodist Church of Palo Alto and served in several church capacity roles over the years. She loved to travel and often returned to Iowa twice annually.
Delores was a full-time housewife until her children graduated from High School and then was employed as an accountant at Bay Microfilm Inc. in Palo Alto for several years until she retired in 1988.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas and sons; Craig with wife Shirley and children Erin and Wesley, Clark with wife Kathy and children Megan and Jeffrey, and daughter Cynthia Ahrendsen and child Stephanie. She was preceded in death by her parents and Cynthia’s son.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Wagler’s Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Jim Matheney officiating and Judy Matheney vocalist. Sermon Pastor, John Chadwick, Pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Knoxville, Iowa.
Preceding the service will be a visitation at the funeral home with the family present from Noon until the time of service. Burial at the Shaul Cemetery will follow the service.
Delores will be buried next to her parents at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dean Eakins, Donald Eakins, Ireland McElderry, Ronnie Shockley, Loren Hagedon, Roger Shockley and Doug Meadows.
Casket bearers will be Jeffrey Meadows (Clark’s son), Nolan Eakins, Mike Rucinski, Gary Hagedon, Blake McElderry, Jeffrey Meadows, Jimmy Meadows and David Meadows.
Memorials may be made to the Drakesville United Methodist Church.
STEPHEN E. WILKINSON
STEPHEN E. WILKINSON, age 36, formerly of Canton, Minnesota died Sunday June 1, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Stephen was born
February 18, 1972 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Harley E. and Betty M. (Neff) Wilkinson. In 1990 he graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School. He enlisted in the United States Army where he was in the Special Forces and served in Operation Desert Storm. He was discharged after being injured at Fort Bragg. He attended San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico and worked as a pilot and instructor for U.S. Airways. At the time of his death he was an independent security contractor in Iraq. He was a member of the Canton American Legion and the Mabel Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Stephen is survived by his parents Harley and Betty of Casa Grande, Arizona; three brothers Craig (Patti) Bush of Monticello, Ill., Brian Wilkinson of Ottumwa, Iowa, and D.J. (Linda) Thommen of Salem, Oregon; a sister Brenda (David) Helgeson of Rochester, Minnesota; paternal grandmother Myrtle Wilkinson of Mabel; a special friend Stacy; a niece; and five nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother; his maternal grandparents; and his paternal grandfather.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, MN with Rev. Neil Westby officiating. Visitation will be 4 - 7 PM Wednesday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, and one hour prior to service on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to the Gift of Life Transplant House and may be mailed to: MENGIS FUNERAL HOME, 301 N. MAPLE STREET, MABEL, MN 55954. Graveside services with Pastor James Wakelin officiating will be at 1:00pm Friday at the Pulaski, Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa. BLOOMFIELD - V. Fay Jones, 98, of Bloomfield, Iowa died June 10, 2008 at Davis County Hospital Long Term Care in Bloomfield. She was born
March 27, 1910 in Mark, Iowa to James William and Nellie Ann Acton Arnold. She married
Wesley Jones January 2, 1930 in Bloomfield. A lifetime resident of Davis County, she worked at Knock on Wood, the Plastics Factory and in home health care. She was a long term member of the Des Moines River Primitive Baptist Church in Eldon, Iowa.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Lillie Fay John of Des Moines, Iowa, Dorothy Kapke of Kieler, Wisconsin, Mary (Deo) Loney of Montrose, Iowa; a son, David (Mada) Jones of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Vera Farley of Eugene, Oregon, Lorean Smith of Ottumwa, Iowa; a brother, James Junior Arnold of Eugene, Oregon; and a daughter-in-law, Emily Jones of Jacksonville, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Robert Jones; 2 brothers, Pearl and Oscar Arnold; 2 sisters, Dortha Simmons, Mary Frances Nelson; and 2 grandsons, Paul and Lynn Jones.
Funeral Services will be at 1 pm Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Elders Clyde Farmer and Stephen Conte officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. Visitation will begin after 9 am on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 12 pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Des Moines River Primitive Baptist Church and the Davis County Hospital Long Term Care Facility.
Quentin Levi Bales
FLORIS - Quentin Levi Bales, age 3 months 25 days, died June 12, 2008 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was born
February 18, 2008 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Wesley L. and Loretta F. Price Bales.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Adrian Bales of Floris, Iowa; 3 half-brothers, Joshua, Jeremy, and Justin Shepherd, all of Ottumwa, Iowa; and grandparents, Duane and Thelma Bales of Floris.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Ethel Price; and great-grandparents, Norris and Jessica Price, Stanley and Florence Bales, and Clarence and Vera Shadley.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Floris Cemetery in Floris, Iowa with Rev. Loyal Hepker officiating. The family will be at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa on Tuesday from 6-7:30 pm to meet with family and friends. A memorial has been established to his family.
Joann Gibson
WEST GROVE - Joann Gibson, 75, of West Grove, Iowa died June 18, 2008 at the Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center in Centerville, Iowa. She was born
January 6, 1933 in Highland Center, Iowa to Elmer and Wilma Pendergraft Noe. She married
William “Bill” Gibson August 29, 1952 in West Grove. She worked as a nurse’s aide for the St. Joseph, Ottumwa, and Davis County Hospitals. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Gibson Feed and Seed for 13 years. She was a member of the West Grove United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband; 2 sons, Kimball Gibson of Fresno, California, Russell (Sandie) Gibson of New Bloomfield, Missouri; a daughter, Tammera (James) Gibson-Belmudez of Omaha, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren, Lauren and Jesse Gibson both of Fresno California and Jill Gibson of Ashland, Missouri; a brother, John Noe of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Max Noe and 3 sisters Marion Smith and Martha and Doris Noe.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday June 21, 2008 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Rev. Shari Squires officiating. Burial will be in the West Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9am on Friday with the family present from 6-8 pm to greet friends at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the West Grove United Methodist Church.
