SIGOURNEY — Dale E. Homan, 77, of Sigourney, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.

Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date at Conner Cemetery in rural Sigourney. Interment will be at Conner Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.

ILA MATTIX
MAY, 23, 1924 — FEB. 17, 2008

OSKALOOSA — Ila M. Mattix, 83, of Oskaloosa passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2008, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lee Mattix officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery in Mahaska County.

Visitation will begin 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening to greet visitors. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church of Oskaloosa.

ROBERT CECIL MURPHY
OCT. 23, 1922 — FEB. 14, 2008

ALBIA — Robert Cecil “Bob” Murphy, 85, of Albia, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 14, 2008, at the Monroe Care Center in Albia.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with the Rev. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S officiating. Burial with military rites provided by the American Legion Howard Cessna Post No. 136 will follow services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Albia.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Monday, Feb. 18, at the Winfield Funeral Home. Robert’s family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday evening. A rosary service will also be led Monday evening at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Monroe County.

MARIE LINSLEY

FREMONT — Marie Linsley, 99, of Fremont, passed away Sunday February 17, 2008. Funeral services are pending at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont.

EVELYN TALBOTT
MAY 6, 1922 — FEB. 8, 2008

MOUNT PLEASANT — Evelyn R. Pfeiffer Talbott, 85, of Mount Pleasant, and formerly of New Hartford, and the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

A funeral service for Evelyn Pfeiffer Talbott will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, at the Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The Rev. Herbert Shafer, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

BERNARD CREW
AUG. 24, 1925 — DEC. 3, 2008

OSKALOOSA — Lyle Bernard Crew, 83, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

He was born icon Aug. 24, 1925, at Delta, the son of John and Edna V. Root Crew. Bernie graduated from the Delta High School with the class of 1943, and entered the United States Air Force in 1943 and served his country for three years before being honorably discharged in 1946. He was united in marriage to Edith McGrew and later divorced. Later, he married icon Joy Anderson and they also divorced. He worked for the Oskaloosa Daily now the Oskaloosa Herald newspaper for 25 years. He then worked for the Oelwein Register for five years, then returned to the Herald and worked as the circulation manager and advertising director. Lastly, he worked at Pella Corporation for nine years, retiring in the late 1980s. He was recently recognized for 61 years of membership to the American Legion Harry L. Anderson Post 34, making him the longest card holding member. He was also a 60-year member of the Elks.

His family includes his two sons: Steve (& Devra) Crew, of Rowley, and Terry Crew, of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: Paul Crew.

As was his wish, his body has been cremated and no services are planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

ALLEN VAN WYK

PELLA — Allen Lee Van Wyk, 54, died Jan. 13, 2008, in Pella.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 16, at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Third Reformed Church. Memorials may be made to Gateway Community Church in Monroe and the Hospice of Pella. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

GOLDIE CHANCE

OSKALOOSA — Goldie F. Chance, 90, of Oskaloosa, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 14, 2008, at Crystal Heights Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lois Williams officiating. Burial will be in Bellefountaine Cemetery near Tracy. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet visitors. Memorials may be made to Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.

MARY KIEFER

DES MOINES — Mary D. Kiefer, 90, passed away Jan. 13, 2008, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Ankeny Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, one hour prior to funeral service. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Taylor House Hospice, 3401 E. Douglas Ave., Des Moines.

STELLA BLOMMERS

PELLA — Stella Blommers, 90, of Pella, died Thursday, Jan. 10, in Pella.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Visitation was held on Sunday at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Memorials may be made out to Pella Regional Health Center — Long Term Care.

CLARENCE VAN ZEE

PELLA — Clarence M. Van Zee, 86, of Pella, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in Pella.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, in the Otley Reformed Church. Visitation will be held after 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14; family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Memorials may be made out to Otley Reformed Church, Pella Hospice Comfort House and The Gideons.

THOMAS VOSS

OSKALOOSA — Thomas F. Voss, 85, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Honoring his wishes, he has been cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date, with burial of the cremated remains in Henness Cemetery, near Oskaloosa. No visitation is planned. Arrangements are by the Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa.

MORGAN MALLOY

OSKALOOSA — Morgan Jeanne Malloy, 9, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa of injuries received in an auto accident.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. John Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa, with the Rev. Stephen Lane officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation was held at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Sunday evening, and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Monday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

BRUCE CONOVER

LYNNVILLE — Bruce Conover, 81 of Lynnville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at his home.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at the Family Christian Center in Sully with Pastor Michael Hovda and Pastor Tom Pool officiating. His body has been donated to the University of Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Grinnell Hospice. Friends may sign the online guest book or give condolences to the family at www.hardenfuneralhomes.com. Harden Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

JUDY BRIDGES

OSKALOOSA — Judith A. “Judy” Bridges, 64, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Dwayne Madsen officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Sunday after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice or the First Christian Church building fund.
