Elton Long

Elton Blackburn Long, 81, of Burlington, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center.

Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Long will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and First United Methodist Church.

Donna Rush

Donna Suzanne Rush, 70, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Park View Care Center.

Born April 20, 1934, in Hannibal, Mo., she was the daughter of Sperry Porter and Melba Juanita Gatewood Guy. On April 5, 1953, she married James Lee Rush in Hannibal. He died Oct. 26, 1998.

Mrs. Rush was a homemaker.

She was a graduate of Hannibal High School. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Burlington and enjoyed reading.

Survivors include two sons, James "Allan" Rush and Paul "Markham" Rush, both of Burlington; one brother, Gene Guy of Center, Mo.; nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Rush will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Brad Cranston officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Heritage Baptist Church.

Alvah Lovingfoss

Alvah B. Lovingfoss, 83, of Downers Grove, Ill., died Feb. 8, 2005, in Winter Haven, Fla.

The memorial service for Ms. Lovingfoss will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. William S. Mitchell officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

A memorial has been established for the American Lung Association.

Bertha Sparrow

Bertha M. Sparrow, 71, of LaHarpe, Ill., died at 5:38 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 29, 1933, near LaHarpe, she was the daughter of Harold and Mamie Shutwell Negley. On May 16, 1954, she married James Sparrow in LaHarpe.

Mrs. Sparrow was a member of the Home Extension, the Late Bloomers Garden Club and LaHarpe Union Church. She taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and was a member of Come Join Us Sunday school class.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Deborah Hamrick of Augusta, Ill., and Diana Lambert of Hamilton, Ill.; two sons, John Sparrow and Joe Sparrow, both of LaHarpe; eight grandchildren; two great–granddaughters; and four sisters, Hattie Conner of Toulon, Ill., Kay Foster of Eureka, Ill., Clara Sallee of Nauvoo, Ill., and Mildred Schroeder of Salem, Ore.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, one in infancy, and her parents.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Sparrow will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at LaHarpe Union Church, with the Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for LaHarpe Union Church and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Alice Knisley

Alice L. Knisley, 74, of Niota, Ill., died at 2:24 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born Sept. 15, 1930, in Pontoosuc, Ill., she was the daughter of Merlin J. and Zeta Hamm Seigfried. On Aug. 24, 1957, she married Robert Knisley in rural Niota.

Mrs. Knisley was a homemaker.

She was a graduate of Nauvoo High School in Nauvoo, Ill., and attended Appanoose Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Janet Young of Mississippi, Nancy Crull of Fort Madison, Gloria James of Iowa and Brenda Gilpin of Pontoosuc; one son, Thomas Page of Nauvoo; 14 grandchildren; several great–grandchildren; and two brothers, Dennis Seigfried of Niota and Cleve Seigfried of Fort Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two grandchildren and one sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Knisley will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at King–Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Beckie Laumeier officiating. Burial will be in Appanoose Presbyterian Cemetery in rural Niota.

A memorial has been established.

C. Michael Trapp Jr.

C. Michael "Mike" Trapp Jr., 69, of Nauvoo, Ill., died at 11:54 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Born Jan. 14, 1938, in Reading, Ohio, he was the son of Clifford Michael Sr. and Dessie Eunice Dudley Trapp. On June 23, 1956, he married Bonnie Marie Leinberger.

Mr. Trapp retired as a director of commerce with Sharkey Transportation in 1995 and Nauvoo Restoration Inc. in 2002. He attended Sinclair College in Dayton, Ohio, and was an avid historian, researcher and writer. He belonged to the Illinois Historical Society, the Hancock County Historical Society, the Adams County Historical Society and the Nauvoo Historical Society, where he served as president. He belonged to the Historical Society of Reading and was on the Martyrdom Trail Committee in Hancock County. He served as a tour guide on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, and at the John Wood Museum in Quincy, Ill. For the past 20 years, he conducted many historical tours in and about the tri–state area. He belonged to the Toastmaster's International Group in Quincy. He conducted symposiums and lectures on history and had produced a historical video on the rebuilding of the Nauvoo Temple. He was a participant in the Nauvoo City of Joseph Pageant for more than 20 years. He was an amateur ham radio operator. He served as president of the Grape Festival for a year. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints in Nauvoo and served in several bishoprics. He was a temple worker in the Nauvoo Temple.

Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Clifford, David, Clayton, J. Russell, Samuel, Matthew and Mark; four daughters, Virginia Stoddard, Victoria Gallaher, Susan Boyer and Colista Kelley; 43 grandchildren; seven great–grandchildren; one brother, Donald Trapp of Reading; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one infant son.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Nauvoo, with family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday.

The funeral for Mr. Trapp will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints in Nauvoo.

A memorial has been established.

Effie Johnson

Effie Ina Johnson, 100, of Donnellson Health Center, formerly of Argyle, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, at the Donnellson Health Center.

Born March 9, 1907, at Cordell, Okla., she was the daughter of Jessie Donald and Mary Ada Dowdy Cone. On April 28, 1928, she married James "Cotton" Johnson in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Johnson was a 1925 graduate of Cordell High School. She was a member of the Embury United Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S of the church and was a 4–H leader. She enjoyed gardening, music, traveling, reading, and her church. She was an avid Phoenix Suns fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Gwynn Keller of Donnellson and Sharon Lee Stockton of Mesa, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 29 great–grandchildren; eight great–great–grandchildren; one brother, J.D. Cone of Odessa, Texas; one sister, Geraldine Gerlock of Cordell; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson and seven siblings.

Visitation is 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Schmitz–Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson. Family will received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Embury United Methodist Church.

The funeral service for Mrs. Johnson will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Embury United Methodist Church in rural Donnellson, with Rev. Barb Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Embury Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Embury United Methodist Church.

Armin Seyb

Armin O. Seyb, 85, of Donnellson, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born March 13, 1918, in Donnellson, he was the son of Oscar Daniel and Bertha Honadel Seyb. On Jan. 20, 1946, he married Janet Aschenbrenner in Quincy, Ill.

Mr. Seyb was a retiree of J.J. Nichting Co. and a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge and Artaban Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Donnellson, and the Diamond Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Fort Madison.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Daniel Seyb of Indianapolis, and David Seyb of Tiffin; one brother, Darrell Seyb of Donnellson; one sister, Letha Althoff of Quincy, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

There will be no visitation.

A Masonic service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson by the George Washington Masonic Lodge to be followed by a memorial service. Burial will be in the Evangelical Cemetery , Donnellson.

Donald Caldwell

Donald James Caldwell, 62, of Monmouth, Ill., died at 8:28 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill.

Born Dec. 16, 1941, in Monmouth, he was the son of Donald R. and Charlene V. Belt Caldwell. He first married Shirley Chenault. They divorced. He later married Sheri Needham. They, too, divorced.

Mr. Caldwell worked for Maple City Dairy as a route man. He later was an over–the–road driver for a number of companies. He then worked for Western Stoneware for a time and lastly was a rural newspaper delivery driver.

He was raised in Monmouth and attended Monmouth and Norridge, Ill., schools. He was an Army veteran with the rank of PFC (T) E–3, serving from 1959 to 1961.

Survivors include four daughters, Kelly Lant, Kaylene Teague, Kara Jo Caldwell and Brittany Caldwell, all of Monmouth; two sons, Kevin Caldwell of Crouse, N.C., and Brandon Caldwell of Monmouth; a number of grandchildren; his parents of Monmouth; one sister, Judy Edwards of Monmouth; one brother, Terry Lee Caldwell of Mundelein, Ill., and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated.

A memorial service for Mr. Caldwell will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth.

Betty Muilenberg

Betty B. Muilenberg, 67, of New Hartford, N.Y., died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Faxton Hospital in Utica, N.Y.

Born Oct. 28, 1936, in Waterloo, she was the daughter of George and Grace Cobb Busby. In 1959, she married Don. T. Muilenberg in Waterloo.

She was employed by Hospice Care Inc. in New Hartford. For many years, she worked for Hess's department store.

She graduated from West High in Waterloo and received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Iowa. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Utica. She was an avid reader, pet lover and Avon sales representative.

Survivors include her daughter, Ann M. (John) Vannoy of Richmond, Va.; one son, Todd (Lisa) Muilenberg of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; one sister, Barb Bohlen of West Burlington; two nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Friedel, Williams, Coriale and Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford.

A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 1605 Genesee Street, Utica.

A memorial has been established for Hospice & Pallative Care Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
