Ella Jenkins

Ella M. Jenkins, 85, of Farmington, died at 4 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Home in Keosauqua.

Born Feb. 12, 1915, in Revere, Mo., she was the daughter of Ottis and Adella Ascott Shuler. On Feb. 12, 1932, she married E. Paul Jenkins in Kahoka, Mo.
Mrs. Jenkins was a homemaker and operated the Shady Rest Nursing Home in Bonaparte for several years. She lived in Farmington for about 50 years.

She was a member of Farmington Methodist Church and Farmington American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Carroll Jenkins of Santee, Calif., James Ervin Jenkins of Farmington and Melvin Jenkins of Davenport; three daughters, E. Marie Toothacre of Jajoba Hills, Calif., Nelma L. Hammond of Jacksonville, Ark., and Vickie A. Randolph of Bonaparte; one sister, Alice Burke of Kahoka; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Darrell Henry of Keosauqua.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Farmington, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Jenkins will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hofbauer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington.

A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Unit of the Good Samaritan Home.

Kenneth Jarvis

Kenneth Dean Jarvis, 61, of Bono, Ark., died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at his home.

Born Oct. 9, 1938, in Stronghurst, Ill., he was the son of Virgil and Mildred Jarvis. On Oct. 25, 1959, he married Sandra Joan Todd in Monmouth, Ill.
Mr. Jarvis was a 1956 graduate of Stronghurst High School and served in the Navy from 1956 to 1958. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and recently had started a new business in his home.

He was president of Stronghurst Lions Club and served on the Henderson County Zoning Board. He taught Sunday school at Kirkwood United Methodist Church and, with his wife, led the youth group at Stronghurst United Methodist Church. He loved reading, especially westerns.

Survivors include his wife; one son, David Jarvis of Salem, Ark.; two daughters, Robin Jarvis of Austin, Texas, and Melony Bowers of Jonesboro, Ark.; eight grandchildren; one brother, Richard Jarvis of Gladstone, Ill.; one sister, Barbara Jack of LaHarpe, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

In Arkansas, the service for Mr. Jarvis will be at 6 p.m. today at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro, with Elvis Sneathern officiating.

In Illinois, the service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Memorials have been established for the local Lions Club and the local Salvation Army, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Russell Wolfe

Russell "Pinky" Wolfe, 95, of Donnellson, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Donnellson Health Center.

Born Nov. 19, 1904, in Mount Sterling, he was the son of Charles Curtis and Olive Rebecca Lancaster Wolfe. On Oct 11, 1930, he married Mae Elizabeth Krebill in Donnellson.
Mr. Wolfe was a railroad depot agent in Donnellson, owned Donnellson Produce & Feed and was an insurance agent for People's Mutual Insurance in Donnellson for many years, retiring in 1972.

He and his wife spent their winters in Lakeland, Fla. He enjoyed traveling, golfing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Zion Mennonite Church and Donnellson Lions Club and a former member of the Donnellson School Board.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lois Schau of Donnellson and Marlene Brown of Manly; three sons, Richard Wolfe of San Rafael, Calif., Douglas Wolfe of Galena, Ohio, and Donald Wolfe of Charlotte, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Wolfe will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Mennonite Church in Donnellson, with the Rev. Richard Bentzinger officiating. Burial will be in Zion Mennonite Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Zion Mennonite Church and the American Cancer Society.

Ruth Penn

Ruth Maxine Penn, 74, of Mount Pleasant, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Oct. 16, 1926, in Noble, she was the daughter of Andy and Fannie Ford Brownell. On April 22, 1942, she married Dale C. Penn in Kahoka, Mo.
Mrs. Penn was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Judy Maxine Penn of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Marcelene Jordan of Mount Pleasant; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Penn will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beatty Funeral Home, with the Rev. Henry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Hope Haven.

Suzanne Kelly

Suzanne M. Parrott Kelly, 58, of Burlington, died at 1:13 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2000, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Born Dec. 10, 1941, in Burlington, she was the daughter of James and Doris Evans.
Ms. Kelly was a nurse's aide at Burlington Medical Center for 19 years and dispatcher for Jim's Auto.

She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include one son, Robert Kelly of Burlington; one daughter, Eugenia Meth of Burlington; foster parents, Vivian and Wilbert Venghaus of Burlington; one brother, Merle Parrott of Memphis, Mo.; two foster brothers, Tom Thye of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Steven Venghaus of Dothan, Ala.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

There will be no formal visitation. The body has been cremated.

The memorial service for Ms. Kelly will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Prugh's Chapel, with Pastor Bill Hornback and Chris Kelly officiating.

Denzil Poggemiller

Denzil "Pogge" Poggemiller, 72, of Keokuk, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Born Feb. 9, 1929, in Pleasant Grove, he was the son of Rall and Ethel Todd Poggemiller. He first married Norma Butler. He later married Patricia Gilman on Jan. 18, 1991.
Mr. Poggemiller was a graduate of Burlington High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked as an electrician for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1991.

He was of the Protestant faith and was a member of West Burlington Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sheila Logan of West Burlington and Rebecca Ewinger of Burlington; one son, Michael Poggemiller of West Burlington; one stepdaughter, Sharon Parker of West Burlington; one stepson, Thomas Calhoun of Braidwood, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and his first wife.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three step-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The graveside funeral service for Mr. Poggemiller will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Shinar Cumberland Cemetery of Pleasant Grove, with the Rev. Richard Shaw officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162 and American Legion Post 52.

Memorials have been established for the Alzheimer's Association and West Burlington Fire Department.

Bernard Bosley

Bernard W. Bosley, 85, of Donnellson for the past 55 years, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Donnellson Health Center.

Born Nov. 24, 1915, in Council Bluffs, he was the son of Schuyler and Eva Mastin Bosley. He married Christine A. Pedrick on Aug. 25, 1940, in Fairfield. She died Dec. 17, 1996.
Mr. Bosley was a graduate of Parsons College in Fairfield and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He owned and operated the Donnellson Hardware Store for 50 years.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, the men's group of the church, Green Acres Country Club and Donnellson Lions Club and received the Warren Coleman Award. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a 50-year member of the American Legion, both of Donnellson. He enjoyed cribbage and coin collecting.

Survivors include one son, John Bosley of Wylie, Texas; two daughters, Jo Ann Boulware of Mesquite, Texas, and Marcia Miller of Winterset; and four grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will begin at noon today at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Bosley will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Donnellson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Bentzinger and Robert Patton officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Cemetery , Donnellson.

A memorial has been established for his church. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Donald Peterson

Donald Lee Peterson, 78, of Burlington, formerly of Wever, died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Burlington Care Center in Burlington.

Born Feb. 8, 1922, in Burlington, he was the son of Milton and Vida Sourwine Peterson. On May 5, 1953, he married Eva Mae Brandstetter Merritt in Burlington.
Mr. Peterson was a World War II Army disabled veteran. He served in the Army infantry and received the Purple Heart. At times, he worked as an auctioneer.

He attended First Christ-ian Church and was a member of Disabled American Veterans, both of Burlington.

Survivors included his wife; two daughters, Roxanne Lipper and Linda Kay Atha, both of Burlington; one stepson, Carl Merritt of Burlington; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one brother, Huck Lumbeck of Oquawka, Ill.; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Peterson will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Nash officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery , Burlington, with military rites conducted by VFW Posts No. 10102 and No. 9162, both of Burlington.

A memorial has been established for First Christian Church.

Harold Stewart

Harold Lee Stewart, 58, of rural Gladstone, Ill., died at 5:37 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill.

Born June 13, 1942, in Gladstone, he was the son of Earl K. and Phyllis M. Morris Stewart. On Jan. 24, 1998, he married Thelma Jean Myers in Las Vegas.
Mr. Stewart graduated from G & O High School in 1960. He worked at Stewarts Pheasant Farm in rural Henderson County, Ill., for 27 years and retired from Federal Mogul in Burlington, where he worked for 30 years.

He was an avid fisherman and loved being on the Mississippi River.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Darren Stewart of Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and Chris Stewart of Biggsville, Ill.; two daughters, Dawn Stewart of Mount Pleasant and Shelly Rhoades of Fort Madison; one stepdaughter, Jodi Anderson of Burlington; two stepsons, Jay Hall and Chad Hall, both of Burlington; nine grandchildren; his mother of Gladstone; and one sister, Joyce Meloan of Gladstone.

He was preceded in death by his father and several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Ill. The body has been cremated.

The graveside memorial and burial of cremains for Mr. Stewart will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Oquawka Cemetery in Oquawka with the Rev. Larry Basnett officiating.

A memorial has been established.
