NICHOLAS G. GOTTO JR. 76, of Anthon and formerly of Oto, Iowa passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2001 at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Services were held on Wed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Oto, Iowa. "Nick" was born icon May 27, 1924 in Oto, the son of Nicholas and Anna (Hehn) Gotto Sr. He was raised and educated in the Oto area. Nick lived in Oto until moving to Anthon a few years ago. He was employed by the city of Oto from 1988 until 1994, Woodbury County as a heavy equipment operator, and with Maple Valley Construction. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto. Survivors include three sons, Steven & wife Sherry of Oto, Marty of Oto, and Tracy and wife Karen of Rembrandt, Iowa. One daughter and her husband, Patricia Gotto and Duane Banta of Mapleton, Iowa. Nick is also survived by eight grandchildren, three sisters; Margaret Ronfeldt and Mae Handke both of Bronson, Iowa and Doris and her husband Joe O'Connell of Smithland, Iowa. Nick was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Kate Lewis, and Ann Handke, as well as three brothers, Leo, Joe, and Henry Gotto.

REGINA M. CLOUD 44, of Ricketts, Iowa, formerly of Anthon died Friday April 6, 2001 at her residence. Memorial services were Tuesday April 10, at the Ute Community Building, in Ute, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date. "Gina" was born icon to Lawrence and Dorothy Cloud on March 6, 1957. She is survived by sons, Benjamin Horstmann, stationed in South Carolina with the US Navy, and Jacob Lill 9, and Levi Lill 7, both at home. Also surviving is one sister; Betty Drossel of Ute, and two brothers, John Cloud of Florida, and Kevin Cloud of Texas. Gina was preceded in death by her parents.

JAMES P. WILSON 48, of Palm Harbor, Florida died Friday April 6, 2001. Memorial services were held in Clearwater, Florida. Memorial Services and Burial held May 5, 2001 at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa for family and friends. Jim was born icon January 1, 1953 to Ralph and Grace (Jones) Wilson. He graduated from Anthon-Oto High School in 1971. He moved to Florida in 1974. Survivors include his parents of Anthon; four brothers and their wives, John & Gayla of Anthon, Ray & Priscilla of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Steve & Sue of Correctionville, Iowa and Kermit & Lynn of Ames, Iowa. One sister, Susan Schneider of Brea, California, and a special friend, Miguel Hall of Palm Harbor.

DON COGLEY, 56, of Bakersfield, California passed away on Monday April 2, 2001 after a long battle with cancer. Don was married icon to the former MARY NEWMAN (Class of 1966). Don is also survived by two children; John and Ann both in California, as well as his mother-in-law; May Newman of Anthon and sisters-in-laws and their husbands; Julie & Bob 'Doc' Kerns, Anthon, and Annette & Chuck Cloud of Oto, as well as other relatives.

COLE ANTHONY JOHNSON, 6 day old son of Thane and Michelle (Walling) Johnson of Sioux City, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Omaha, Nebraska. Private family services were held on Saturday, March 24, at the Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa. Baby Cole was born icon March 16, 2001 in Sioux City, Iowa. Those surviving, and left to cherish his memory include his parents, Thane and Michelle, his maternal grandparents, Dennis and Julie Walling of Anthon, and maternal Great-grandparents Victor and Mae Baker of Kingsley, Iowa; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Jane Johnson of Spirit Lake, Iowa, paternal great-grandmother Jeanette Johnson of Mapleton, Iowa and great-great-grandmother Frieda Stehr of Odebolt, Iowa, along with several Aunts and his Uncle Travis Walling. Cole was preceded in death by his paternal uncle Cade Johnson.

ARLENE BOLLMEYER 79, former Anthon area resident, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2001 at the Nursing Home in Correctionville, Iowa. Services were held at Grace Lutheran Church Correctionville, Iowa on Thursday, March 15, with burial in the Correctionville Cemetery. Arlene was born icon November 26, 1921 in Cherokee, IA to Clifford and Belva (Downey) Ashmore. She graduated from Correctionville High School in 1939 and then taught country school. On May 5, 1943 Arlene married icon Wilbert "Bub" Bollmeyer. After his discharge from the Army, they made their home in the Anthon area. They later moved to Correctionville where Arlene owned and operated a clothing apparel shop. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed reading, fishing, playing cards, and crocheting. Bud passed away a few years ago. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gary and Becky of Correctionville, and Ron and Deb of Gilmore City, IA; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, John Ketelsen; and two sisters, Carol and husband Joe Cunningham of Correctionville, and Wilma Reed of San Bruno, CA. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter, Sharon Ketelsen, a sister, Dorothy McKenna, and a brother, Glenn Ashmore.

LESTER W. FEDDERSEN 84, of Anthon passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2001 at a Sioux City Hospital. Church services held at the United Methodist Church, Anthon, Iowa. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, Iowa. Lester "Les" was born icon January 23, 1917, in Battle Creek, the son of Herman and Helene (Janssen) Feddersen. He was raised and educated in the Battle Creek, Midway, and Anthon areas. On August 5, 1936 he married icon Maxine Spiece in Sioux City. Les and Maxine were well liked, and well known cattle and grain farmers in the Anthon area, living south and east of Anthon for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and various card clubs. Les also enjoyed dancing. Survivors include his wife, Maxine; four sons and their wives, Bob & Marcie from Hornick, IA, Larry & Marge of Anthon, Vince and Cathe of Sioux City, and Phil & Peggy of Hornick, IA; two daughters, Marlene Albers of Battle Creek, IA and Diane and her husband Ray Lillie of Mankato, MN. 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Herman & Pauline of Anthon, Kenny & Dorothy of Battle Creek, and Bob & Pauline of Ida Grove; six sisters, Phyllis & Kenneth Luce, Viola Coon and Hazel Ashley all of Sioux City, Helen & John McDermott of Marshalltown, IA, Lorraine & Raymond Johnson of Battle Creek, IA, and Joan & Frank Smith of Storm Lake, IA; several nieces and nephews, and many area friends and neighbors. Lester was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Ross, Eugene, and William.

FLORENCE J.(PETERSEN) JAHN 87, of Anthon passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at the Correctionville, IA Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 8, at the United Methodist Church in Anthon, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Florence was born icon March 5, 1913 near Anthon to William and Ameila (Cassens) Petersen. On January 8, 1929 she was united in marriage to Edward "Eddie" Jahn. They made their home near Anthon. "Eddie" passed away in August of 1992. Florence was employed at several cafes in Anthon as the cook. She was also a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Harold of Overland Park, KS, James "Jim" & wife Marilyn of Sergeant Bluff, and Kenneth & wife JoAnn, of Moville, IA; two daughters and their husbands, Beverly & Kenneth Fredrickson, of Moville, IA and Barbara & Ralph Frese of Sioux City, IA; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, and two brothers.

PATRICIA (McLARTY) HUSK, 56 passed away January 15, at a Sioux City Hospital. Burial was in the Oto Cemetery, Oto, Iowa. Patty was born icon on March 17, 1944 at Hornick, Iowa to James Sr. and Waneta (Scott)McLarty. She graduated from Westwood High School in 1962, and made her home in Sioux City. She married icon Willard Husk in 1977. He passed away in 1993. Survivors include one brother, James "Butch" & Masako "Missy" McLarty Jr. of Oto, and one niece, Cherrel McLarty of Des Plaines, Illinois. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.

Former area resident, MAXINE HAMANN 78, of Mapleton died Thurdsay January 11, 2001, following a lengthy illness. Services were Monday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with burial in the Oto Cemetery, Oto, Iowa. Mrs. Hamann was born icon September 2, 1922, in Moville, Iowa, the daughter of George Gilbert and Etta Downing. She attended country school and Moville Public School until March of 1937 when she moved with her family to Oto, where she graduated in 1940. Maxine married icon Harold J. Hamann on May 11, 1943, in Dakota City, NE. The couple farmed in the Danbury, Anthon, and Oto areas. They later moved into Oto and then to a farm near Mapleton. Mr. Hamann passed away June 29, 1981. She continued to live in Mapleton until February 1999 when she moved to Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, Iowa. Maxine was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Henry McKenna Unit #651 of Oto and served as the president for 14 years. She enjoyed crocheting. Survivors include a son and his wife, Duane and Marilyn Hamann of Smithland, Iowa; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Downing of Sergeant Bluff; three sisters, Lily Ronfeldt of Sioux City, Emma and husband Ronald Mann of Hoskins, NE, and Anita and husband, Eugene Corn of Fremont, NE; Two brothers-in-law, Alfred Heinse of Sioux City and Virgil Smith of Akron, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Roy Hamann and one in infancy; four sisters, Frances Heinses, Georgetta Prescott, Mary Smith, and Marguerite Lesner; Two brothers-in-law; two nephews, and two nieces.

STEVEN R. "MOOSE" MULLER 40, died Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at his home near Rodney, Iowa of natural causes. Services will be Monday Jan. 15 at St. John Catholic Church in Onawa, IA, with burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery at Constance, Nebraska.

THOMAS E. CUNNINGHAM 87, of Anthon, passed way on Wednesday January 10, 2001, at his residence. Services were held on Saturday January 13, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon, with burial at Mount St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. Tom was born icon April 8, 1913, in Danbury Iowa to James and Mary Elizabeth (Maguire) Cunningham. The family moved to the Anthon area where Tom was raised and educated. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1942 to 1946. On June 10, 1953 he married icon Veronica Schiernbeck in Anthon. He was a lineman, and a foreman with the Illinois Central Railroad for 37 years. He also served as the Chief of Police for the city of Anthon for 16 years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Virginia Cunningham of Anthon, and Donna Cunningham of Omaha, NE; two sons and their wives, Tim and Kathy of Smithfield, VA and Pat and Julie of Sioux City, IA; four grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine and her husband, Don Bennett, of San Diego, CA, and Anna Sadler of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Joe and Carol Cunningham of Correctionville, IA and Frank and Edna Cunningham of Anthon; a sister-in-law, Ruth Cunningham of Trenton, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice; and two sisters, Marcella Wood, and Gilda Reinbold.

CHARLOTTE (GOTHIER) MILLER 82, of LeMars passed away January 9th, 2001 in Sioux City, Iowa. Burial was at Memorial Cemetery in LeMars. Charlotte was the daughter of Edmund and Martha (Bernard) Gothier, and was born icon on January 11, 1918 on the family farm near Anthon. She graduated from Anthon High School. She taught school in rural Woodbury County, Plymouth County, and California. She returned to the LeMars, Iowa area and married icon Herman Miller on January 11, 1989. She is survived by her husband; a sister Shirley Gotheir of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters-in-law, Beth Gothier of Anaheim, CA and Barb Gothier of Sioux City, Iowa. Three step-children; Linda and Dan Chapman of Meridan, Janet and Rodney Matz of Hawarden, and Rev. Curtis and wife Sharyl of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Sawin, and Nita Belknap; and two brothers, Edward and Harold Gothier.

Former Oto, Iowa resident, DONALD MALCOM 86, of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away on Monday, January 8, 2001, in Port St. Lucie. Memorial services were at Middletown, Ohio. Donald was born icon June 25, 1914, in Oto to George William and Minnie (Humphreys) Malcom. He graduated from Oto High School, attended Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, NE, and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in engineering. He was married icon on September 24, 1937, in Oto and the couple made their home in Middletown, Ohio where Don was employed in sales and engineering at Armco Steel. He retired as a marketing manager from Armco Steel, and had been a resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida for the past 20 years. Survivors include a daughter, Sara Harvey of Bloomington, Indiana; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Kathy and Jim Fite and family of New Richmond, Ohio; a grandson, John; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, a son, Joseph, five sisters, a brother, and one nephew.

VESTER LaDEAN "DEAN" McDERMOTT 61, of Bronson, Iowa, and formerly of Anthon, died Saturday, January 6, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Services were held Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, IA. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Anthon, Iowa. Dean was the son of Vester and Dora "Dodie" (Lanagen) McDermott and was born icon May 26, 1939. He attended school in Anthon. He married icon Clara Charrlin in January 1955. He later married icon Ruth M Baker on May 29, 1958. She passed away on February 7, 1985, in Sioux City, He married icon Faye Bryan on September 18, 1993, in Sioux City. Dean was raised in the Anthon area, lived in Sioux City and had lived in Bronson for the past 24 years. He served on the Bronson City Council for nine years, served in the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years as well. He was employed in the construction trade for several years as well as owning McDermott Construction Company for 10 years before working for Aalfs Manufacturing for five years as their construction manager. Survivors include his wife Faye, one son and his wife Michael & Dawn McDermott of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, LeAnn & Tim Kilpatrick of Fort Calhoun, NE, and Diane & Arley DeMarais of LaVista, NE; a step-daughter, Jill Bryan of Des Moines; a sister and her husband, Annette & Richard Kirchner of Correctionville, IA; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
