Carolyn Hollesen
CORNING - Carolyn Ann (Harvey) Easterlie-Hollesen, 68, of Corning, formerly of Perry died Aug. 4, 2003, at Corning Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. The Rev. Jeanne Groom will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Open visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday until service time with the family receiving friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in her name.

Mrs. Easterlie-Hollesen, daughter of Opal Bernice (Blakely) and Clarence Harvey, was born icon April 4, 1935. She graduated from high school in 1953.

Survivors include her mother, Opal Harvey of Corning; two children, Linda Shaw of Council Bluffs and Dennis Easterlie of Grand Junction; two brothers, Richard (wife Janice) Harvey of Prescott and Darrell (wife Mary) Harvey of Corning; and five sisters, Frances (husband Ken) Van Laeke of Salem, S.C., Betty (husband Larry) Damewood of Gravity, Clara McKee of Emerson, Ruby (husband Carl) Drottz of Des Moines and Cathy (husband Jim) Eggleston of Prescott.

William F. Gardner Laguna Niguel, Calif.
William F. Gardner, 89, of Laguna Niguel, Calif., formerly of the Lorimor area, died July 24, 2003, at South Coast Medical Center in Laguna Beach, Calif.

Services are pending at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave.

Coryl Eberle
Des Moines - Coryl Eberle, 68, of Des Moines, formerly of Sharpsburg and Lenox, died from complications of a stroke Aug. 22, 2003, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A Mass service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox. The Rev. Tim Fitzgerald will officiate the service. Open visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 S.W. Ninth St., Des Moines, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church in Lenox. Mason-Lindhart FuneralHome ofHumbolt had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Eberle, daughter of Coryl Elizabeth (Damewood) and Charles Jones, was born icon Sept. 16, 1934, in Creston. She graduated from Lenox High School. On Aug. 28, 1954, she married icon Bill Eberle in Lenox.

Survivors include three daughters, Kay (husband Matt) Bennett of Lee's Summit, Mo., Kim (husband Duane) Matheny of Clarinda, and Leanne Tyler (fiancee Ben Silva) of Davenport, and seven grandchildren.

Steve Kannas
Corning - Steve Kannas, 49, of Corning died July 30, 2003, at his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. The Rev. Jeanne Groom, pastor of the Christian Church in Corning, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Corning. Open visitation will be after 11:30 a.m. today with the family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Corning. A memorial has been established in his name.

Mr. Kannas, son of Estella Vivian (Redemske) and Leroy Charles Kannas, was born icon May 28, 1954, in Watertown, S.D. He graduated from Corning High School in 1972. On Dec. 29, 1973, he married icon Kaye Ellen Cook at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Corning.

Survivors include his wife, Kaye Kannas of Corning; his father, Leroy (wife Faye) Kannas of Harlan; two children, Nathan (wife Sarah) Kannas of Norwich, Conn., and Clayton (wife Kristin) Kannas of Corning; a brother, Brian (wife Mary) Kannas of Corning; and two sisters, Connie (husband Rob) Marxen and Lisa (husband John) Wolfe, all of Creston.

Roberta Clark
Atlantic - Roberta L. Clark, 94, of Atlantic, formerly of Union County, died July 29, 2003, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the United Methodist Church in Arispe.

The Rev. Karen Garrison will officiate. Committal service and interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery at Shannon City.

Open visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Hockenberry Family Care, 1804 E. Seventh St., Atlantic.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of donor's choice or to the family for a memorial to be established in her name.

Mrs. Clark, daughter of Emma Grace (Smith) and Lewis David Brock, was born icon Dec. 5, 1908, near Shannon City in Union County.

She graduated from Arispe High School.

On Aug. 30, 1927, she married icon Leonard Clark in Osceola.

She lived in Arispe, Shannon City, Creston and Cleveland, Ohio, before moving to Atlantic in 1971.

She had been employed by Swift and Company, Spurgeon's, Kresge's and K-Mart.

Survivors include a son, Norman (wife LaDonna) Clark of Atlantic; a daughter, Marlene (husband Bill) Weisshaar of Ames; a sister, Carol Pugh of Arispe; a son-in-law, John Damon of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Mark, Clark, Greg and Michael Weisshaar, Penny Lorey, Lisa Weisshaar Pettillon, Dan and Jeff Goldsberry; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Oct. 21, 1993; four sisters; a daughter, Carita Damon; a grandson and son-in-law.

Patricia 'Patty' Schlapia
Patricia 'Patty' Schlapia, 83, of Creston died Feb. 26, 2014, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rev. Kenneth Halbur Jr. will officiate, along with the Revs. Leonard Kenkel, Jerry Stessman and Mark Reasoner.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 5 to 7 p.m. evening and a 7 p.m. Christian Wake Service at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Patricia Jane (Harvey) Schlapia, daughter of Teresa (Bradley) and Harry Harvey, was born icon Oct. 23, 1930, in Creston.

Patty attended St. Malachy School and graduated from Creston High School in 1948.

She attended Creston Junior College.

On July 14, 1951, Patty married icon Harry M. Schlapia in Creston.

Patty was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.

She was an elementary room mother for 26 years.

Patty is survived by her daughters, Chris (Rob) Burlingame of Des Moines, Mary Lynn (Jim) Baker of Creston and Dorothy Davenport and Susie (Steve) Biley, all of Des Moines; sons, Pat Schlapia and John Schlapia, both of Creston; grandchildren, Jason (Haley) Schlapia, Sonny Schlapia (Brooke Wikoff), Tony Schlapia, Cassie Schlapia (Blake Wikoff), Renea (Michael) Burg, Jeffrey Baker, Megan (Jared) Andrews, Jessica (Bryan) Moriarty, Kevin Burlingame (Tara McCulley), Trevor Biley (Alaina Despenas), Brigette Biley and Ellie Davenport; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Katlyn, Shannon, Jayden, Maverick, Jaxton, Abigail, McKenna, Sage and Keaton; sisters, Teresa Johannes of Hastings, Neb., and Dorothy (Mike) Callan of Livonia, Mich.; brother Vince Harvey of Des Moines; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Michael Schlapia, grandson Corbyn Biley, one great-grandson and sister Joanie Eckerman.

Rev. Gordon Elrick
Waukee - Rev. Gordon Elrick of Legacy Pointe, Waukee, Iowa where he lived with his wife of 52 years, Lucy Elrick, passed away February 23, 2014.

Gordon George Elrick was born icon August 13, 1938 in Buffalo, New York to Charles and Janet Elrick, originally from Glasgow, Scotland.

He grew up in Rocky River, Ohio where he graduated from high school.

He attended college, graduate school, and seminary in Tennessee, where he also served as a pastor.

He was Director of Christian Education in Illinois, Wisconsin, and in Red Oak, Iowa.

He then served as pastor in the following Iowa communities: Letts, High Prairie, Huxley, Cambridge, Lake View, Wall Lake, Sutherland, and Larrabee, before retiring from Creston in 2001.

Gordon volunteered as a Cub Scout Master, Boy Scout Master, volunteer fire fighter, and as a driver for VA hospital patients.

He was president of Kiwanis Club and a member of Optimist and Lions Clubs.

He was a member and chairperson of committees of the Iowa United Methodist Conference.

Gordon enjoyed photography, reading, golf and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy; daughter, Becky Bryan of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Doug, and wife, Lori of Grimes, Iowa; grandson, Andrew Elrick; granddaughters, Kayley Elrick, Sara Elrick, and Lindsey Bryan; brother-in-law, Bill Nichols; and nephews, Thom and David Nichols.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Janet Nichols.

Services will be held at Valley United Methodist Church, 4201 Ashworth Road in West Des Moines on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Refreshments will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to the Valley United Methodist Church or to the Bidwell Community Center in Des Moines.
