Leo R. “Pat” Einck, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, October 10, at Manor Care Health Services.

He was born icon February 18, 1932 in Festina, son of Joseph and Catherine Huinker Einck.

He married icon Bernice Ameling April 11, 1959 at St. Luke’s in St. Lucas.

Leo was a US Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.

He was employed with John Deere for 32 years, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary (Becky) of Peoria, Ariz. and Scott of Parkersburg; a daughter, Karla (Pat) Pierson of Cambridge; five granddaughters, Raine Allen, Nicole Einck and Sydney, Paige and Allie Pierson; sisters-in-law, Freda Einck of Decorah, Rita Lou Einck of Waterloo, Marcella Wurzer, of New Hampton, Arlene Huinker of Calmar, Ida Ameling of Fort Atkinson, Colette Ameling of West Union, Alma Ameling of St. Lucas and a brother-in-law, Dale Ott of Festina.

Preceded in death by five brothers, Edwin (Irene), Herbert, Jerome, Leander (Adela) and Leroy (Deanna) Einck; three sisters, Lorraine (Ole) Schrandt, Rose (Loren) Nathem and Helen Ott; brothers-in-law, Joe (Bernice), Clarence, Richard (Colette Huber; Adeline Grimm), Felix, Alfred (Elaine) and Irvin Ameling, Anton Wurzer, Robert Huinker and a sister-in-law, Viola (Cletus) Mihm.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7:00 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Helen Ann Arnold
(September 7, 1925 - October 24, 2011)

Helen Ann Arnold, 86, of Mallard Point, died Monday October 24, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born icon September 7, 1925, in Omaha, Neb, the daughter of Jim and Emma Citta Kuss. She married icon Forrest G. Arnold on May 12, 1945, in Omaha, Neb. He died November 2, 2006.

Helen as a homemaker and lived with her husband in Marion from 1951 until moving to Palm Bay, Fla, in 1986.

Survivors include: two sons, David (Judy) of Center Point and Steven (Mary) of Indialantic, Fla.; a daughter, Carolyn (Steve) Weichers of Waterloo; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: her parents and her husband, Forrest.

Public visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. There will be no services.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Theodore "Ted" Wayne Simpson
(January 26, 1949 - September 29, 2011)

Theodore Wayne “Ted” Simpson , 62, died Thursday, September 29 at Covenant Medical Center of multiple myeloma. He was born icon January 26, 1949, in Washington, IA, son of Frank Simpson. He married icon Susan Bisbee on March 11, 1978 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They later renewed their vows in 1981 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Ted graduated from Waco High School and attended Kirkwood Community College for two years. He was member of the US Army Reserves for 35 years, where he worked as a civil service mechanic for 30 years, retiring as a master sergeant, due to ill health. Ted was one of ten children and he was raised by his foster parents, Marvin and Ethel Widmier in Washington, IA.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Jonathan Wayne Simpson and Marsh (Ashley) Simpson all of Colo; a step-son, Michael Bisbee of Waterloo; four grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and a foster sister, Diane Black of Crawfordsville, IA.

He was preceded in death by his foster parents.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with inurnment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Public visitation will be for an hour before services at the church on Friday. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 614 W. 7th St. on Thursday, where the family will receive friends.

Mary Kelly
(December 22, 1925 - October 6, 2011)

Mary Kelly, 85, of Waterloo, died Thursday, October 6, at Manor Care Health Services.

She was born icon December 22, 1925 in Waterloo, daughter of Frank and Katherine Burger Manske. She married icon Richard Kelly on November 5, 1945 in Waterloo.

Mrs. Kelly was employed in the office of Chamberlain Manufacturing Company and later with St. Francis Hospital until her retirement. Following retirement she volunteered with the Covenant Medical Center gift shop.

Survivors include: her husband; two sons, Mike (Pam) Kelly of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jim (Micky) Kelly of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Kathy (Jim) Hingtgen of Urbandale; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a son, Jerry Kelly; her parents; a brother, Robert Manske; and a sister, Evelyn Kinion.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters Of The Americas rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be made to Columbus High School or St. Edward’s Catholic Church.

Duane "Al" Louis Gallmeyer
(January 25, 1938 - October 16, 2011)

Duane “Al” Louis Gallmeyer, 73, of Evansdale, died Sunday, October 16, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of Cancer.

He was born icon January 25, 1938, in Dumont, the son of Fred and Bernice Ziel Gallmeyer. He married icon Sharon Sizemore on February 13, 1987 in Waterloo.

Duane was a graduate of Waterloo West High School in 1956, followed by earning a degree in Automotive from Hawkeye Technical Institute. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1963. He was employed with Waterloo Industries as a machinist for 32 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Grace Reformed Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Sharon of Evansdale; three daughters, Jody (Corey) Virgil of Moline, ILL, Cheri (Aaron) Schurman of Cedar Falls, and Mary (Joe Dennison) Gallmeyer of Everett, Wash; two step-sons, Sean (Bobbi Jo) Utsler and Shane (Stacy) Utsler all of Waterloo; two brothers, Conrad (Julie) Gallmeyer and Rick (Sherry) Gallmeyer all of Waterloo; two sisters, Elaine (Frank) Rubino of Waterloo and Donna (Robert) Bulmer of Galmey, MO; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a step-son, Shad Utsler.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Public visitation one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

He enjoyed bowling, collecting guns, automobile repair/restoration, model cars, and sketching.

Arnie George Leininger
(July 20, 1931 - October 16, 2011)

Arnie George Leininger, 80, of Evansdale, died Sunday, October 16 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born icon July 20, 1931 in Lawler, son of George and Goldie Luella Burst Leininger. He married icon Arlene Schultz in 1948. She died in 2004. He married icon Joyce Cox December 26, 1982 in Waterloo.

Arnie was employed with Rath Packing Company for 34 years and then with UNI for 15 years, retiring in 1998.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Duane Leininger of Fairbolt, Minn., David (Trish) Leininger of Waterloo and Gordon (Suzanne) Cox of Hiawatha; a daughter, Michele (Scott) Carnes of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Megan, Morgan, Kyle and Sara; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Rowan; six step-grandchildren, Nicole, Chelsea and Mariah Cox, Dakota Paeper, Courtney and Tyler Carnes and a sister, Helen Byrd of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Duane Leininger.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and for an hour before services.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Cecelia H. Simon
(June 22, 1920 - October 23, 2011)

Cecelia H. Simon, 91, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Oct. 23, at Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born icon June 22, 1920 in Aberdeen, S.D., daughter of George and Mary Krebsbach Matheis. She married icon Ralph Simon on May 15, 1945 in Stacyville. He died July 4, 1996.

Mrs. Simon was employed in the cafeteria of St. Edward’s School for many years.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sue (Bob) Schuette of Marion and Mary Lou (Jim) Seeley of Charlotte, NC; four sons, Mike (Barb) Simon of Smithville, Mo., Pat (Dede) Simon, Sr., Tom Simon and Tim Simon, all of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, Keith (Mary) and Jeremy (Carrie) Denton, Patrick, Jr. (Tracey), Josh (Emily) and Nick (Kristie) Simon, Kristin (Doug) Goedken, Heidi (Justin) Kuecker, Kim (Mike) Nelson, Stephanie (Adam) Jones and Amanda and John Seeley; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Genevieve Medgaarden of Austin, Minn.; and a brother, Herman Matheis of Moorstown, New Jersey.

Preceded in death by: her husband; her parents; two sons, Kenny and Jon; four sisters, Veronica and Dorothy Matheis, Christina Mullenbach and Marcella Schrandt; and a brother, Joe Matheis.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to New Melleray Abbey, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the family.

Joseph T. Snider
(November 14, 1941 - October 26, 2011)

Joseph T. “Joe” Snider, 69, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, October 26, at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born icon November 14, 1941 in Blooming Prairie, Minn., son of Garth T. and Emily A. Norgaard Snider. He married icon Sharon Kehoe June 29, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waterloo. They were later divorced. He married icon Judy Olson May 22, 1976 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Joe was employed at the Waterloo Police Department for 30 years, retiring in November, 1996, as a Sergeant.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Eric (Holly) and Dean of Savoy, Ill. and Rob (Wendy) of Rothschild, Wis.; a step-son, Brett Olson of Cedar Falls; a step-daughter, Brenda (Jay) Smith of Traer; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Carter of Rochester, Minn. and Sheery (Larry) Bruncheon of Alleman and three brothers, Richard of Evansdale and Gary and Steve of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Andy and an infant grandson, Nicholas.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and for an hour before services on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

Lynne Gander
(July 11, 1967 - October 30, 2011)

Lynne Gander, 44, of Waterloo, died Sunday, October 30, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born icon July 11, 1967 in Burlington, daughter of Ken and Shirley Andersen Aspelmeier. She married icon Anthony “Tony” McBride on June 26, 1993 in Waterloo. He died November 5, 2001. She later married icon Charles Gander on October 1, 2004 in Waterloo.

Lynne was a teacher at the Sunnyside Temple School and later with Son Rise Christian School.

Survivors include: her husband; her son, D. J. Gander at home; two step daughters, Courtney and Chelsea McBride, both of Waterloo; her father of Mediapolis; and her brother, Dave (LeeAnn) Aspelmeier of West Branch.

Preceded in death by: her mother.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Valley Community Church with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and at the church for an hour before services on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to Son Rise Christian School, Relay for Life or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Robert Earl Thompson
(December 25, 1946 - October 29, 2011)

Robert Earl Thompson, 64, died Saturday, October 29 at his home.

He was born icon December 25, 1946 in Center, TX, son of Larry and LaMerle Garrett Thompson. He married icon Linda Polley in TX and they were later divorced. He married icon Dianne Sexton on July 27, 1972 in McAlester, OK.

Robert received his B.A. from Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ark. He started teaching in the Waterloo School System at Grant Elementary School in 1970. He later was employed for 30 years with John Deere Engine Works as a system analyst, retiring in 2008.

He is survived by his mother, LaMerle Thompson Suell of Center, TX; his wife Dianne of Waterloo; a son, William Nathan Thompson of CA; three daughters, Christy Thompson and Shana (William) Muhammad all of Waterloo and Nicole Lee Thompson of San Diego, CA; eight grandchildren, Kobie Stevenson, Alonzo Muhammad, Alijah Muhammad, Alanna Muhammad, Ahkil Muhammad, Ahseem Muhammad, Ahdan Muhammad and Meighan Thompson; two step-brothers, Marlin (Pam) Suell and Dana (Sonya) Suell all of TX.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Thompson and step-father, R. L. Suell.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the family where the proceeds will be given to IMPACTT Foundation (non- profit youth organization dedicated to improving the lives of all youth through educational and athletic opportunities). Robert passions in life were basketball, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
