Adele Warth
Adele Augusta Marie Warth, 95, of Burlington, died at 2:55 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Burlington Care Center.
Born Aug. 9, 1907, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Martin and Adele Poeker Meyer. She married Henry T. Fahr on July 7, 1929, in St. Louis. He died Jan. 30, 1951. She later married Fred C. Warth on Nov. 23, 1963, in Burlington. He died Sept. 3, 1989.
Mrs. Warth was a homemaker. She was of the Lutheran faith and enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, quilting, crafts, vegetable and flower gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Geraldine Rhoads of Burlington; two sons, Henry T. Fahr of Caseyville, Ill., and Richard T. Fahr of O'Fallon, Mo.; one sister, Olivia Butts of Overland, Mo.; five grandchildren; six great–grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother and one great–grandchild.
There will be no formal visitation. However, friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Prugh's Chapel.
The graveside committal service for Mrs. Warth will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in North Walker Cemetery , with Pastor Carl Engstrom officiating.
A memorial has been established for North Walker Cemetery.
Ellen Nepote
Ellen Nepote, 83, of St. Paul, formerly of Keokuk, died Thursday in St. Paul. Arrangements are pending at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk.
Elaine Boyles
Elaine Helen Grace Boyles, 78, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 in Burlington.
Born Aug. 16, 1926, in Collins, she was the daughter of Christopher Patrick and Hazel Marie Adams Arch. On May 20, 1948, she married Charles Boyles Jr. in Palmyra, Mo. He died Sept. 17, 1990.
Mrs. Boyles was a homemaker.
She was of the Catholic faith. She loved flowers and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Charles W. Boyles and Gary L. Boyles, both of Dallas City; one sister, Verona "Bonnie" Cassiday of Lomax, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The body will be cremated following visitation.
A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
Dean Lyon
Dean R. Lyon, 58, of Mosinee, Wis., died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 at his home.
Born Nov. 2, 1945, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Wilbur and Virginia Davidson Lyon. On Sept. 14, 1968, he married LaDon Emenecker in Wausau, Wis.
Mr. Lyon worked at Wausau Paper for 33 years.
He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1963 until 1969. He was a member of Christian Assembly–Assemblies of God in Wausau, where he served as an elder, head usher and youth advisor. He also worked with seniors and Shepherd's House.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Chad Lyon of Minneapolis; one daughter, Lynne Lyon of St. Louis; his parents of Fort Madison; two brothers, Richard Lyon of Burlington and Donald Lyon of Bettendorf; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th St., Wausau, and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Assembly–Assemblies of God in Wausau.
The funeral service for Mr. Lyon will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Dennis Romine officiating. Burial will be in Mosinee Cemetery.

Clematis Strohmaier
Clematis R. Strohmaier, 100, of Keokuk died at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Lexington Square in Keokuk.
Born Oct. 25, 1903, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Reinhold E. and Grace M. Dowell Strohmaier Sr.
Ms. Strohmaier worked as a general duty nurse, private duty nurse and supervisor at hospitals including the University of Iowa in Iowa City, University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., St. Joseph and Graham Hospitals in Keokuk, Detroit, Mich., Oak Park, Ill., and Oakdale.
She received her nursing degree from the University of Iowa. She was a lifetime member of the Iowa Nurses Association and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one brother, John Strohmaier of Shreveport, La.; and several nieces and nephews, including Reinie Dobson of Keokuk and Robert Strohmaier of Montrose.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk.
The graveside service for Ms. Strohmaier will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Oakland Cemetery
in Keokuk, with the Rev. William Mitchell officiating.
A memorial has been established for Keokuk Christvision.
Bessie Wilkerson
Bessie Pearl Wilkerson, 90, of Fort Madison, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at her home.
Born Oct. 12, 1912, in Pike County, Mo., she was the daughter of William and Susie Willis Boyd. On Feb. 3, 1929, she married Marshall Wilkerson Sr. in Fort Madison. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Wilkerson was a homemaker and seamstress.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a past member of the choir and Missionary Society. She was a member of the Magnolia Art Club. She was a past member of the church choir. In 1961, she was a candidate for Mother of the Year for the state of Iowa. She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, canning and fishing.
Survivors include six daughters, Norma Marshall of Fort Madison, Marjorie Jeanette Blackwell of Maywood, Ill., Kay Hudson of Bellwood, Ill., Gloria Wright of San Antonio, Marcelle Cooper of Des Moines and Bessie Charlene Woodfin of Westchester, Ill.; 31 grandchildren; 78 great–grandchildren; 31 great–great–grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Wilkerson and Georgetta Baskin, both of St. Louis, and Margaret Holt of San Diego; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, four brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Wilkerson will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barr Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Bartlett L. Wilkerson officiating Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery
in Fort Madison.

Calvin Swafford
Calvin Baye Swafford, 86, of Burlington, formerly of West Burlington, died at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Burlington Care Center.
Born Feb. 22, 1918, in Morning Sun, he was the son of Estella Swafford McClurkin. On May 18, 1940, he married Macetta Pauline Earnest Swafford in Batavia. She died June 6, 2004.
Mr. Swafford worked in the engineering department of GE for 17 years and was an auto mechanic and service manager at various auto dealerships.
He was a graduate of Morning Sun High School. He attended West Burlington United Meth–odist Church and was a member of the Engineer Club. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include one son, Bary Swafford of Burlington; one sister, Frances Pugh of Columbus Junction; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother and one daughter.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Swafford will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Wolgamuth officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the West Burlington Police Department.
Herbert "Herbie" Lachnitt
The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Herbert "Herbie" Frank Lachnitt will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 12, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery . Visitation will be after 8:00 AM Monday, October 11, at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends following a 6:30 PM Christian Wake Service until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to Burlington Notre Dame Music Boosters.
Grace Samples
Grace D. Samples, 87, of Fort Madison, died at 12:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Fort Madison Health Center in Fort Madison.
Born Oct. 8, 1917, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Byron A. and Ludella P. Reed Scovern. In 1948, she married Claude C. Samples in Fort Madison. He died in 1964.
Mrs. Samples worked at the former Sacred Heart Hospital in the dietary department for more than 20 years. She also worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and Sheaffer Pen Co.
She was a member of First Christian Church and Kings Daughters.
Survivors include two sons, James Samples of Denmark and William Samples of Danville; four grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; and two sisters, Nell Grossman and Pat Swyter, both of Fort Madison.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Samples will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at King–Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Soldiers' Circle in Oakland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for First Christian Church. Contributions may be left at King–Lynk Funeral Home.
Alan Owen
Alan "Buck" Buckley Owen, 44, of Fort Madison, died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 25, 1960, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of Frank and Mabel Rogers Owen. On Oct. 11, 1998, he married Beth Carpenter in Fort Madison.
Mr. Owen did dry wall work.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Dori Boucher of Derry, N.H.; two stepsons, Robert Porter of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jerry Porter of West Point; one stepdaughter, Janeene Porter of Fort Madison; three grandchildren; four brothers, Frank Owen, Brian Owen and Michael Lurvey, all of Massachusetts, and Ric Lurvey of Fort Madison; two sisters, Christine Machado and Joyce Rogers, both of Massachusetts; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two children.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison.
A celebration of life service and burial will be in Massachusetts at a later date.
