Eric Hartman

Eric Edward Hartman, 30, of rural Bloomfield, died Feb. 29, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Wagler Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Friend officiating. Burial will be at the Hartman Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to his children.

Opal Anderson

Opal Frances Anderson, 93, of Bloomfield passed away Aug. 9, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Wagler Funeral Home with the Rev. John D. Boatman officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at the Troy Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library and the Bloomfield Senior Center.

Lorraine J. Lorenz
(June 26, 1925 - May 15, 2011)

Lorraine J. Lorenz, 85, of Dysart, died Sunday, May 15, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.

She was born icon June 26, 1925 in Keystone, daughter of Ewald and Leila Henningsen Buch. She married icon Russell Lorenz September 15, 1943 in Keystone. He died in 2007.

Lorraine was educated in country parochial schools and graduated from Keystone High School in 1942. She graduated from Waterloo School of Practical Nursing in 1965. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse with Covenant Medical Center for many years, retiring in 1986. She loved making pies, painting, writing and traveling. Most of all, she loved spending time with her large family. A lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, her faith was her life.

Survivors include: four daughters, Lana Faye (Dwayne) Luze of Dysart, Dolores Ann (Darwin) Steinford of Keystone, Loretta Kay (Gary) Simnacher of Vinton and Nancy Sue (Denny) Albert of Brandon; a son, Larry Russell (Connie) Lorenz of Cedar Rapids; 19 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren (and one on the way) and three great-great grandchildren (and one on the way); and two sisters, Joan Homire of Marengo and Jane (Lyle) Musel of Thousand Oaks, California.

Preceded in death by: her parents, Ewald and Leila Buch; her husband, Russell Lorenz; and a brother, Donald Buch.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Dysart, with inurnment in the Keystone Cemetery, Keystone. Visitation will be for one hour before services on Wednesday at the church.

Our West Ridgeway location is in charge of arrangements.

Lee A. Jewett
(July 5, 1932 - May 15, 2011)

Lee A. Jewett, 78, of Waterloo, died Sunday, May 15, at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born icon July 5, 1932, in Westgate, son of Howard and Mary Morris Jewett. He married icon Betty Heim November 8, 1951, in Dubuque.

Lee was a purchasing agent with Clay Equipment, in Cedar Falls, for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Craig of Waverly; two daughters,Regina (Jerry) Dahl of Clinton and Joan Summerhays of Waterloo; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne (Irene) and Dean (Eileen) all of Dubuque and a sister, Wanda Luebke of Galena, Ill.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Lee Ann in infancy and a brother, Howard, Jr.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 5:00 p.m. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Sharon Kay Burk
(December 5, 1947 - May 17, 2011)

Sharon Kay Burk, 63, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Oelwein, died Tuesday at her home after a lengthy battle with Ovarian Cancer.

She was born icon December 5, 1947 in Dubuque, daughter of Victor Eugene and Karoll Rowena Wolfe Williams. She married icon James R. Wetherbee in September 1965 but later divorced. On July 2, 1983 she and Ron Burk were married icon at First Baptist Church in Oelwein. For many years Sharon worked behind the scenes and was one of the voices heard on the air at KOEL-FM Country Radio. Sharon became a Realtor in 1985. She was an Associate with Trapp Realtors in Cedar Falls where she remained until she retired in 2005. She was a member of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Board of Realtors, Blackhawk Republican Women, Trailblazers Off- Road Club, and the Cedar Falls Sertoma Club.

Survivors include: her husband; her mother, of Oelwein; three daughters, Shelly Lynn (Scott) Dempsey of Oelwein, Kristin (Jim) Schaefer of Waterloo, and Angie (Paul) Stamps of Festus, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Burk of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren, Bree (Adam) McCann, Aleah (Jon) Hempel, Joe (Amber) Smith, Chantel Dempsey, Rachael, Jack, and Claire Schaefer, Kelly, Kari, John, Mari, and Ruth Burk, Zachary, Allysa, and Samantha Stamps; 7 great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Evan, and Nolan McCann, Dean, Bryson, and Anna Kay Hempel, and Sebastian Abernathey; one brother, D. Craig (Linda) Williams of Rowan, Iowa; two sisters, Vicki Lynn (Keith) Jarchow of Oelwein, and Kathleen Sue (Dale) Walker of Wichita, Kansas.

Preceded in death by: her father; a step-son, Byron Burk; and brother, Terry John Williams.

Sharon was baptized into Christ April 10, 1961. She lived in the Waterloo area and was a member of the Cedarloo Church of Christ from 1983 to the present. Sharon served as Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the Choir at First Baptist Church in Oelwein. She taught Sunday School and served on the Fellowship Committee at Cedarloo. Sharon enjoyed many hobbies: flower & lawn gardening, bird watching, travel, fishing & camping, trail riding, decorating, and card playing. Her favorite things were to take her many grandchildren on outings and vacations, and organizing family gatherings for the holidays.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Cedarloo Church of Christ, Cedar Falls with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Public visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and continue for one hour before services at the church.

Memorials: will be directed by the family to benefit Cedar Valley Hospice or Cedar Valley Cancer Treatment Center for a blanket warming unit for chemotherapy and hematology patients.

Vera Lou Weber
(May 29, 1927 - November 6, 2011)

Vera Lou Weber, 84, of Traer, died Sunday November 6 at home.

She was born icon May 29, 1927, in Garrison the daughter of Lewis and LuLu Cavanaugh Runyan. She married icon John “Jack” Weber on November 28, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo.

She was employed as a secretary at Sunrise Hill Care Center for 12 years in Traer and was also a homemaker.

Survivors include: her husband, Jack of Traer, nine sons, Mike (Sharon) of Glen Haven, Wis, Joe (Paula) of Traer, Van (DeAnn) of Zion, Ill, Nick (Patty) of Garrison, David (June) of Waterloo, Daniel (Lori) of Des Moines, Lonny (Jody) of Belle Plaine, Jon (Tina) of Le Grand, and Scott (Karla) of Traer; four daughters, Jennifer (Levi) Mast of Waterloo, Carma (Duane) Schmidtke of Fairbank, Crystal (Richard) Schaefer of Waterloo, and Cindy Weber-Blair of Traer; 38 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: three sisters, June (Beryl) Starbuck, Charlene (John) Herman, and Ines (Joe) Van de Venter; a granddaughter, a grandson, and 3 great-granddaughters.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery, both in Traer. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 5 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley J. Webber
(December 6, 1929 - November 6, 2011)

Shirley J. Webber, 81, of Waterloo, died Sunday, November 6, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born icon December 6, 1929, in Williamsport, Pa., daughter of William A. and Helena Gottschall Boring. She married icon James E. Webber May 19, 1949 in St. Joseph, Mo. He died June 21, 1988.

Survivors include two sons, Bill (Cheryl) Webber of Waterloo and James “Skeeter” (Vicky) Webber, Jr. of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Nanette Buchanan of Wellman and Marty (Rick) Fangman of Gilbertville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two sisters, Jane Ackerson of Waterloo and June (Harley) Harms of Minn.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Claire Shouse and Dorothy Gutknecht.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and for an hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Elsie Ruth (Wilder) Head
(February 23, 1929 - November 21, 2011)

Elsie Ruth (Wilder) Head, 82, died Monday, November 21 at her home.

She was born icon February 23, 1929 in Sallis, Miss, daughter of Gill Waingert and Frances Evans. She married icon Willie Ed Wilder in 1946 in Sallis, Miss. They were later divorced. She married icon Elijah “Kitty” Head in September 1975. He preceded her in death.

Elsie worked as a Morg’s Lunch as a dishwasher and cook, Chamberlin Mfg. Co. and as a senior companion at Hawkeye Community College for 30 years.

She is survived by four daughters, Rev. Dr. Mary Robinson, Linda (Roosevelt) Johnson, Barbara Jean Wilder all of Waterloo and Vernessa “Tootie” Wilder of Des Moines; a brother, Minister Percy L. (Mary) Brown, Sr. ; a sister, Helen Brown both of Waterloo; two sister-in-laws, Judy Brown of Waterloo and Betty Brown of Calif; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Willie C. Wilder and Jerry “Joe” Wilder; two brothers, Walter Brown and James “Jimmy” Holiday Brown; three sisters, Sarah Kate Brown, Minnie Newman and Frances L. Brown ; a granddaughter, Destiny Josette Wilder; her step-father, Elige Brown.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Union Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South St. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the family.

One of Elsie’s greatest compassions was helping people, especially the elderly, and later landed a job at Hawkeye Community College as a senior companion.

Rose Marie Nissen
(May 31, 1927 - November 17, 2011)

Rose Marie Nissen, 84, died Thursday, November 17 at her home. She was born icon May 31, 1927 in Sturgis, SD, daughter of Thomas and Catherine Kearney Finn. She married icon Harry E. Nissen on October 2, 1948 in Waterloo. He died December 16, 2003.

Rose worked at Rath Meat Packing Plant for three years and then as a nurses aide at Allen Memorial Hospital for 10 years.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Lanita) and Russell both of Waterloo; a daughter, Theresa “Teri” Matson of Waterloo; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Finn of Overland Park, KS.

Preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, James, Harold and Patrick; two sisters Maxine Bergstrom and Mary Davis; a daughter-in-law, Mary Nissen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 21 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to the family.

John E. Brandenburg
(April 23, 1921 - November 17, 2011)

John Edward Brandenburg, 90, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Nov. 17, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a short illness.

He was born icon April 23, 1921 in Baltimore, Md., son of Charles and Martha Brawner Brandenburg. He married icon Anna Frances White on Oct. 27, 1945.

John was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Air Force. He was employed with Martin Marietta Corporation in the Aerospace field, retiring after 46 years.

Survivors include: his wife; a son, John Robert of Waterloo; four daughters, Nancy Davenport of Chatsworth, Ga., Paula (Mel) Nordentoft and Sharon (Steve) Nordentoft, both of Highlands Ranch, Colo. and Janet (Tom) Nichols of Evansdale; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. C. L. (Elizabeth) of Rising Sun, Md. and James (Wilma) of Parkville, Md.; and three sisters, Helen Bullington of Rockville, Md., Gerry Baumgardner of Savannah, Ga. and Evelyn (James) Ford of Wilmington, Del.

Preceded by: a brother, Paul; two brother-in –laws, Elzie Bullington and John Baumgardner; and two son-in-laws, Abern Davenport and Clair Slick.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be for an hour before services on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

John will be remembered as one who always had a smile on his face and kind words to say. He was an avid baseball, nascar and football fan. Most of all John adored his wife and family.

Donna Jean Jones
(September 4, 1947 - November 20, 2011)

Donna Jean Jones, 64, died Sunday November 20 at her home of natural causes.

She was born icon September 4, 1947 in Independence, daughter of Donald and Opal Waterhouse Norton. She married icon David L. Jones and they were later divorced. She had a common-law marriage with Bill Becker until his death in 1985.

Donna is survived by her mother Opal of Independence; two sons, David L. (Lori) Jones Jr. and John Becker, both of Waterloo; three daughters, Angie Jones and Sara Jones both of Waterloo and Billie (Chad) Rael of Oelwein; ten grandchildren, Cassie Jones, David Jones III, Megan Gaffney, Frankie Price, Taylor Price, Makala Rael, Isabella Rael, Ryan Rael, Maria Rael and Brandon Rael; two great-grandchildren, Kaiden Jones and Mya Jones; a sister, Carole (Donnie) Mumm of Independence.

She was preceded in death by her father; her step-father, Lawrence Smith and a son, Jason Jones.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 a.m. to services time on Friday. Memorials may be given to the family.
