Margaret M. Edsill
(March 19, 1913 - November 22, 2011)

Margaret M. Edsill, 98, of Windsor Nursing & Rehab, Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Tueday, Nov. 22, at Windsor Nursing & Rehab.

She was born icon March 19, 1913 in Eagle Center, daughter of Lewis and Helen McGarvey Klein. She married icon Russell E. Edsill on August 7, 1937 in Eagle Center. He died July 27, 1983.

Mrs. Edsill was employed for many years at Blacks Department Store, retiring in 1978.

Survivors include: a daughter, Margaret “Margie” (Pat) Kane of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Darralee Edsill of Arvada, Colorado; a granddaughter, Angie Craig of Arvada, Colorado; four great grandchildren; and two sisters, Wilma “Billie” Hildman Gilbert and Kathleen Schaefer, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: a son, Robert Edsill; a grandson, Shane Edsill; two brothers, Daniel and Patrick Klein; and four sisters, Alice Klein, Dorothy Kressig, Monica Loftus and Rosemary Schaefer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with burial in the Church Cemetery, Eagle Center. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Monday.

Yolanda "Toni" Barnes
(June 2, 1923 - November 25, 2011)

Yolanda “Toni” Barnes died on November 25, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. She was born icon on June 2, 1923 in Biddle, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Attilio and Amelia Parenza. Her family moved to Melrose, Iowa when she was in grade school and operated the Parenza corner store. After high school Toni attended nurse’s training at St. Joseph Hospital Nursing School in Ottumwa, Iowa. During World War II, Toni served in the army nurse corps where she met her husband of 61 years, Vernon Barnes. The couple moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1950. They had three daughters – Paula, Susan and Mary Kay – raised in Waterloo. Toni worked as a registered nurse until her retirement. She and her husband moved to McCauley Terrace in Johnston, Iowa in 2004. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Vernon, her daughters Paula Barnes (Mike Baxter), Susan Barnes (Jean Davis), and Mary Kay Dorgan (Dan) and her five grandchildren, Gabe (Macarena), Amanda, Molly (Matt), Alissa and Andrew and two great-grandchildren, Violeta and Nicanor.

Private Family Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.

Thomas Howe
(November 29, 1934 - November 25, 2011)

Thomas F. Howe, 76, of Waterloo, died Friday, November 25, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born icon November 29, 1934 in Dubuque, son of Frank and Lillian Ploung Howe. He married icon Merle Hastings on April 12, 1958 in Waterloo.

Tom owned and operated Sibert’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning for many years until retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Kathy (Jim) Clark of Parkersburg and Connie (Dave) Weber of McKinney, Texas; and three grandchildren, Jimmy Clark and Stephen and Sarah Weber.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a grandson, Thomas Summerhays; and two sisters, Janet Howe and Patricia Oaks.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Olivet Columbarium. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Judy Ann Hines
(March 31, 1952 - December 1, 2011)

Judy Ann Hines, 59, of Waterloo, died Thursday at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born icon March 31, 1952 in Manchester, daughter of Roland and Mary Lou Odell. Judy Ann graduated from Prairie High School and Kirkwood Community College, both in Cedar Rapids, and attended UNI in Cedar Falls.

She was employed at Qwest as a senior course developer for 25 years, retiring on April 2, 2011.

Survived by: two sisters, Catherine Hines and Gwen Roemig both of Waterloo; a brother, Ronald Grandstaff of Lawrence, Kan.; a nephew, Michael Grandstaff of Lawrence, Kan.; a niece, Jackie Grandstaff of Tonganoxie, Kan.; a great niece and nephew, Sierra and Gage Sommer.

Preceded in death by: her parents and her step-father, Claude Grandstaff.

Judy Ann was an avid reader and was devoted to her "kids", Cricket, Sassy and Skeeter, her three Maltese.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home on West Ridgeway, and continue for one hour before services on Tuesday.

Memorials: directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Jane L. Else
(July 20, 1953 - December 1, 2011)

Jane L. Else, 58, died December 1 at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born icon July 20, 1953 in Eu Claire, Wis., daughter of Ervin and Betty Lou Stanford Bahr. She married icon Larry Else on October 6, 1973 in Gilbertville.

Jane was a homemaker and previously cared for kids at Cedar Terrace Daycare.

She is survived by: her father of Cedar Falls; her husband of Waterloo; two sons, Cody and Wade both of Waterloo; three daughters, April (Dan Fisher) Else and Laura Else, both of Denver, Colo; Faith Else of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Dylan and Izabelle; three brothers, Jim (JoAnne) Bahr of Woodbury, Minn., Jeff (Jean) Bahr of Appleton, Wis. and Larry Bahr of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Jill (Jerry) Boesen of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville. Public visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

David L. Weekley
(February 26, 1966 - December 2, 2011)

David L. Weekley, 45, of Waterloo, died Friday, December 2, at Covenant Medical Center.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Assembly Of God Church, Elk Run Heights, with burial in Garden Of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at our West Ridgeway location and at the church for an hour before services on Wednesday.

Maureen Joyce Albertsen
(March 2, 1930 - April 21, 2012)

Maureen Joyce Albertsen, 82, of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 21, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born icon March 2, 1930 in Waterloo, daughter of Jennings and Vera Benson Peterson. She married icon Warren W. Albertsen on April 29, 1972 in Waterloo. He died March 24, 2011.

Maureen worked for Rath Packing Company for 11 years and later was the human resource director for K-Mart for 20 years until retirement.

Survivors include: two granddaughters, Lori (Tom) Harvey and Christine (Ryan) Mullen; four great grandchildren, Craig and Hannah Harvey and Kody and Faith Mullen; and her boston terrier, Polly.

Preceded in death by: her son, Craig Curran; in 1977; her father, Jennings in 1986, her mother, Vera in 1996, her first husband, Roger Curran in 2010, and her second husband, Warren in 2011.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Trinity American Lutheran Church with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and at the church for an hour before services on Monday.

Memorials may be made to the church or the Christian Crusaders.

Maureen lived in Waterloo all her life except for short periods at her and Warren’s condo in Florida. Her and Warren’s first home was on South Hackett Road before moving to their home on Loma Street where they lived for over 35 years. They had a few dogs during their life together, a poodle, a schnauzer and two boston terriers.

James Michael Wardlow
(February 20, 1929 - April 22, 2012)

U.S. Veteran
James Michael Wardlow, 83, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 22, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born icon February 20, 1929 in Waterloo, son of Harry R. and Ellen (Nell) Dunn Wardlow. On August 22, 1953 he married icon Ramona Josephine Burke at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hanover Township, rural Waukon. She died October 2, 2006.

Mr. Wardlow graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy in Waterloo, Class of 1946, then served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed for 46 years by the Illinois Central/Chicago Central Railroad as a Car Inspector. He also worked at the A&P; Grocery Store, Martin Bros. Distributing and Takin Bros. Transfer and Storage. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #764 and The National Association of Retired Veterans and Railway Employees.

Survivors include: five sons, Thomas (Susan) of Newton, Michael (Sarita) of Minnetonka, MN, Patrick (Renee) of Waterloo, James (Adriana) of Boynton Beach, FL and William of Milwaukee, WI; three daughters: Ellen Benson of Crystal Lake, IL, Catherine (Gregory) Slick of La Porte City and Maureen (James) Rozen of Waterloo; grandchildren: Joshua and Daniel Slick, Jessica and Alexander Benson, Amber (Mark) Ridder, John (Patrice), Christopher (Holly), Sarah, Kyle, David, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Erin, John and Alicia Rozen; great-grandchildren: Cooper, Hayden, Violet, Dawson and Mack. A brother Joe (Cindy) and a sister Mary Joanne Rosario and a sister-in-law Mary Ann Wardlow.

Preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Brandy and a brother Bill.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church (formerly St. Joseph’s) with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19, Evansdale Amvets Post 31 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion Of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Jim was a hard worker who provided for his family. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Ramona and their family whom he loved very much. He also enjoyed the yearly 321st Signal Battalion Corp reunions this last year being the 58th and the monthly Railroad Retirement (Rails) meetings. His special friends include Doris, Rod and Julie.

Dorothy Jean Schellhorn
(September 4, 1931 - April 24, 2012)

Dorothy Jean Even Schellhorn, 80, of Hudson, died April 24th at Allen Hospital.

She was born icon September 4th, 1931 in Waterloo, daughter of Herman and Marie Harn Even. She married icon Lester Schellhorn on July 3rd, 1954 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. He died February 26th, 1999.

Dorothy graduated from Sacred Heart School and worked for Rath Packing Co., in Waterloo for 11 years before becoming a homemaker and working as a cross-guard for Hudson Schools.

Survived by: one son; Scot (Julie) of Gays Mills, Wis, and three daughters; Sylvia (Dave) Anderson of Lake Oswego, Ore, Lynn (Kent) Schutte of Cambridge, Minn, and Peggy (Jason) Sileo of Norwalk, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Kelly Anderson and Tony, Loni, and Kelsey Schutte, and Anna, Henry, Maggie, and Katie Schellhorn, and Jayme, Chloe, and Luke Sileo; a brother, Don Even of Waterloo; two sisters, Pat (Frank) Thornton of Long Beach, Calif, and Connie (Murv) Hurd of Eagan, Minn.

Preceded in death by: her husband; a son, Mark; her parents, Herman and Marie Even.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Monday.

John Hauser
(August 14, 1917 - April 27, 2012)

John Hauser, 94, died Friday, April 27 at the Denver Sunset Home.

He was born icon August 14, 1917 in St. Louis, Mo., son of John and Magdelina Loncarevic Hauser. He married icon Milka Vlasicek on November 19, 1947 in Bjelovar, Croatia.

John worked in assembly at Waterloo Industries for twenty years, retiring in 1979.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kathy (Leonard) Bottema of Austin, Minn. and Nada (Mike) Franklin of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Christy (Jeff) Blount, Lora Bottema, Mick (Lori) Franklin and Alicia (Doug York) Franklin; and three great-grandchildren, Warren, Nicholas and Tanner.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Denver Sunset Home.

John was very active in St. Vincent De Paul Society and had a great love for woodworking. Having grown up in Croatia, John never returned because he had a fear of flying. However, that fear was overcome by his love of family, especially his grandchildren, when he was asked to fly to Texas to attend his granddaughter’s graduation from law school.
