Emma Gingerich

Emma Gingerich, 84, rural Bloomfield, died July 22, 2003, at her home.

She was born icon Dec. 19, 1918, in Thomas, Okla., to Joseph J. and Fannie Eash Yoder. She married icon George Gingerich Feb. 26, 1942, in Kokomo, Ind. She was a homemaker and member of the Old Order Amish Church.

She is survived by her husband; seven sons, Dewey of Bloomfield, Ora of Wallcottville, Ind., and Harley, Jerry, Herman, Mervin and Nelson, all of Bloomfield; a daughter Irene Yoder of Bloomfield; a sister Katie Mullett of McHenry, Ill.; a brother Jonas Yoder of Goshen, Ind.; 64 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter; a son; six brothers; three sisters and a great-grandson.

Funeral services were Friday at the Mervin Gingerich residence, 19070 Hwy. 273, Bloomfield, with Minister-in-Charge Bishop John Earl Kuhns officiating.

Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Davis County.

Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield was in charge of arrangements.

Clarissia Carlson

Clarissia Juanita Carlson, 91, of Bloomfield, died July 23, 2003, at the Bloomfield Care Center.

She was born icon March 26, 1912, in Van Buren County to Charley and Carrie Cox Murphy. She married icon Clifford Donald Carlson November 8, 1936, in Ottumwa. He died July 18, 1998.

She was a resident of Davis and Van Buren counties her lifetime and a graduate of Milton High School.

She was a telephone operator in Bloomfield for several years and drove a school bus before retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Church of the Open Bible in Bloomfield.

She is survived by a son Donald Carlson of Carson City, Nev.; a daughter LuRee Runnells of Lakeview, Ark.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Raymond, Dale, Leo and Weldon Murphy.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Courtney officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.

Open visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Wagler Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers have been established to the Church of the Open Bible and the Bloomfield Care Center Activity Fund.

Bonnie Rogers

Valora L. (Bonnie) Rogers, 71, Ottumwa, died Nov. 28, 2003, at the Ottumwa Manor.

She was born icon June 19, 1932, in Floris to Wayland and Hazel Mae Goodwin Rogers.

She had been employed by the Bloomfield Foundry for 11 years and had worked as a housekeeper for several families in the Ottumwa and Bloomfield area for several years.

She was affiliated with the Ottumwa Baptist Temple.

She is survived by two sisters, Gerry Kilgore of Bloomfield and Willa Mae Reinier of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 3003, at the Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home, with the family present to receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Melvin Mattox will officiate. Burial will be in the Floris Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Sunday.

A memorial has been established to the family.

Jay Whisler

Jay Donald Whisler, 37, of Pulaski died Feb. 5, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born icon April 15, 1966, in Bloomfield to Donald and Jean Jarvis Whisler. He married icon Brenda Metcalf Oct. 17, 1987, in Bloomfield.

A resident of Davis County his lifetime, he was a carpenter and worked at J.C. Huffman Cabinetry in Fairfield. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church. He was a member of the Pulaski Volunteer Fire Department and was certified as a Firefighter I; he had also served as Fire Chief.

He is survived by his wife; two sons Gunnar and Coleson, both at home; his parents of Pulaski and a sister Jodi Dominguez of Abilene, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Lem and Blanche Jarvis and Albert and Ada Whisler.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bloomfield Christian Church with the Revs. James Wakelin and Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

A memorial has been established to his children's education fund.

Rick Eastep

Glenn "Rick" Eastep, 41, of 1033 G Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, in his home, following a sudden illness.

Born on Dec. 28, 1962, he graduated from high school in Bloomfield and later graduated from Kirkwood Community College. He married icon Donna Geiger. They later divorced.

He worked as a lot attendant for Plymouth-Chrysler, a salesman at Grovert Chevrolet in Newhall, was an insurance agent through Farmer's Insurance, and later worked for Amana Refrigeration. He was a charter member of Abate of Iowa, a member of the Cedar Rapids Chapter of HOG, and Eastern Iowa Bonsai Club, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include a brother, Carl Olivas of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Theresa Cushing of Rockford, Ill.; his brothers by adoption, Ken Thorton of Mohave Valley, Ariz., and Bill Thorton of California; his sister by adoption, Joy Lorthrop of Cyprus, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his adoption parents, Pauline and Glenn Eastep, Sr; and his birth mother, Norma Jean Thorton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Gerald Pettit. Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery, Downing, Mo.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Roy Fitzgerald

Roy Victor Fitzgerald, 91, of Bloomfield died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at the Davis County Hospital.

He was born icon March 14, 1912, in Gorin, Mo., to Roy G. and Mayme Inez Smith Fitzgerald. He married icon Mary Almyra Belgard, Oct. 19, 1935, in Lancaster, Mo. She died Aug. 7, 2002.

He was employed by John Morrell Company, retiring in 1973. He was an Army veteran of WWII serving with the 277th Signal Corp in the Philippines, a member of the Iowa-Missouri Amateur Ham Radio Club, a former member of the V.F.W. Post 8880 and was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Bloomfield.

He is survived by one daughter Patricia Ann Goode of Cobh, Ireland; one son Michael of Bloomfield; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two half sisters, Alberta Ruth Simpson and Helen Opal Hutchinson.

His body has been cremated according to his request.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established to the Davis County Genealogy Society.

Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Cody Davidson

Cody James Davidson, 19, of rural Bloomfield died Dec. 12, 2008 at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at the Bloomfield Christian Church with Rev. Gary Axtell officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-8 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

Fred Hainline

Fred Hainline, 60, Bloomfield, died Tuesday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the Bloomfield Christian Church with Pastor Jim Wakelin officiating. Burial with graveside military rites will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

A memorial has been established to the Davis County Dollars for Scholars for agriculture.

Nellie Benge

Nellie Ruth Benge, 91, of rural Bloomfield died Dec. 19, 2008 at her home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Wagler Funeral Home.

Carl Ware

Carl Wallace Ware, 87, of Bloomfield died Dec. 16, 2008, in the Bloomfield Care Center.Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield. The Rev. Jim Wakelin will officiate.

Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.

Ramona Schooley

Ramona Nina Schooley, 63, of Bloomfield died Jan. 3 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Mark Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Courtney officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery. Visitation is at the Mark Baptist Church and will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday. Family visitation begins at 5-8 p.m. Thursday evening also at the Mark Baptist Church. Dorothy Dixon

Dorothy Dixon, 89, of Bloomfield died Jan. 8, 2016 at her home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the IOOF Cemetery with Rev. Tim Frasher officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday wit the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library and the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.

Donna Piper

Donna D. Piper, 74, of Bloomfield died Jan. 26, 2009 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Wagler Funeral Homes in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church and the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library.
