Shirley M. Nemmers
(February 26, 1922 - August 18, 2011)

Shirley M. Nemmers, 89, died Thursday, August 18 at Lakeview Landing , Friendship Village.

She was born icon February 26, 1922 in Howard County, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Violetta Murphy Hogan. She married icon Robert “Bob” Nemmers on February 12, 1942 in Waterloo. He died July 5, 2009. Shirley graduated from OLVA Academy. She worked in the catalog department at Sears for 18 years and was a member of the Elklets and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She and her husband were influential in developing the Christian Family Movement in the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

She is survived by six sons, Larry (Sherry) of Springfield, MO, Steve of Waterloo, Tom of San Antonio, TX, Mike (Linda) Nemmers of Grundy Center, Patrick (Marilyn) Nemmers of Des Moines and Robert “Bobby” (Brigid) of Waterloo ; three daughters, Becky (Greg) Hargreaves of Waterloo, Susan (Gary) Gielau of Menasha, WI and Michele (Mike) Donahue of Stoughton, WI; 37 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Lemmon of Seattle and Marjorie Webber of Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Doris Hogan of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene (Donna) Hogan and Ben Hogan; two brother-in-laws, Gale Lemmon and Wayne Webber.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cedar Valley Hospice or Friendship Village.

Elizabeth J. "Beth" Huffman
(October 31, 1956 - August 19, 2011)

Elizabeth J. “Beth” Huffman, 54, of Waterloo, died Friday at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

She was born icon October 31, 1956 in Des Moines, daughter of Ralph and Minetta Patton Fisher. She married icon Lee Huffman on May 26, 1993 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Beth graduated from Des Moines East High School and Central Christian College, Pella, with a degree in Teaching.

Beth received her Real Estate license in 2005 and worked with Becker Realty. In 2006, she worked with Deeds Realty and Wolf Realty. From 2007 to present she was with Four Seasons Realtors.

Survived by: her husband; a step-son, Andy Huffman of Waterloo; a step-daughter, Lori (Kenny) Reuter of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Austin and Ashlyn Huffman of Waterloo and Justin (Amy Spratt) and Kelsey Reuter of Waterloo; a great-grandchild, Ryen Reuter of Waterloo; her mother-in-law, Thelma Huffman of Waterloo; a brother, Bill Fisher of Des Moines; a niece, Felicia Fisher of Des Moines; a great niece, Emily Fisher of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by: her parents.

Services will be 10:30 Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Beth volunteered as a commissioner of Waterloo Commission of Human Rights, Family and Children’s Council Board of Directors, Homebuyer Education Instructor with Operation Threshold, Cedar Valley Housing Coalition, and facilitator for Junior Achievement, and Brain Injury Association of NE Iowa. She served on the following committees of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Board of Realtors – Equal Opportunity & Rules Comm., Community Involvement Comm., Political Affairs Comm., and Technology Comm.

Beth had a passion for the art of Middle Eastern Dancing where she taught classes in Des Moines and was active in classes at the YWCA in Waterloo. She enjoyed culinary arts and marksmanship firearms.

Paul Snodgrass
(March 16, 1942 - August 8, 2011)

Paul K. Snodgrass, 69, of Evansdale, died Monday, August 8, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born icon March 16, 1942 in Waterloo, son of James and Amy Barber Snodgrass. He married icon Marian Wilson. They were later divorced. He married icon Sheryl Kriener. She preceded him in death. He married icon Betty Dalstrom. She preceded him in death.

Paul was employed with Alliant Energy for many years until retirement. Following retirement he was a self employed mechanic.

Survivors include: four daughters, Sue Kay DeBord of Ontario, California, Kimberly (Michael) Lau of Casa Grande, Arizonia, Tony (Roger) Bakewell of New Albin and Shelly (Mike) Brustkern of Waterloo; two sons, Steve (Vickie) Kriener of Evansdale and Jerry (Brenda) Snodgrass of Evansdale; 15 grandchildren, Brittney Debord, Michael Spencer David Lau, Ashley Lau, Kami, Kelsey and Joey Kriener, Austin Burke, Brittney and Brooklyn Bakewell, Tiffany, Michael, Travis and Josh Brustkern and Courtney and Cassandra George; five great grandchildren and two brothers, Gary (Joyce) Snodgrass of Parkersburg and Steve (Carol) Snodgrass of Ferryville, Wisconsin.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and a grandson, Adam Burke.

A memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street with inurnment at 11:00 a.m. Sunday at St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Albin. Public visitation will be from 5 p.m. until service time on Thursday.

Joseph M. Jacoby
(August 11, 1922 - August 8, 2011)

Joseph M. Jacoby, 88, of Waterloo, died Monday, August 8, at his home.

He was born icon August 11, 1922, in Earling, son of Hubert and Lena Bessin Jacoby.

He married icon Delores Langenfeld August 5, 1947, in Earling. He received his B.A. from Creighton University. He was a US Army veteran, serving in WWII, as an Air Force pilot.

Joseph was an accountant for Schield Bantam in Waverly, Hinson Manufacturing in Waterloo and Noble Industries in Sac City, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rodger (Linda) Jacoby of Cedar Falls and Richard Jacoby of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Faye (Dan) Traeger of Florida and Ann Folkers of Waterloo; a son-in-law, Jon Hamilton of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Kelly Broten, Jodie Gleeson, Abbey Hayes, Aimee Jacoby, Laurie Traeger, Brett Folkers, Shawn Jacoby and Ben Jacoby; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Haley and Alissa Broten; Caleb and Amber Hayes, Ella Norton and Adelyn Gleeson; four sisters, Mercie Tilton of Sioux City, Severa Pauley of Omaha, Neb., Marjorie Anhalt and Lucille Allen of Calif.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Hamilton; two sisters, Benny Jacoby and Marie Klein and two brothers, Bill and Leander Jacoby.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11, at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31.

Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 5:00 p.m. 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7:00 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Edward Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Nancy Lee Levendusky
(August 13, 1936 - September 16, 2011)

Nancy Lee Levendusky, 75, of Waterloo, died Friday September 16, at Covenant Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

She was born icon August 13, 1936 in Winthrop, daughter of Francis and Buelah Ellison Gallery. She married icon Lawrence Levendusky on November 5, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo.

Mrs. Levendusky was employed with Americana Nursing Home, Jensen’s Dairy Queen and Clabby’s Catering Service.

Survivors include: her husband; four daughters, Denise (David) Bishop of Jesup, Deane (Mike) Hay of Webster City; Colleen (Steve) Bley of Elkhorn, Wisconsin and Julie (Bob) Mether of LaPorte City; three sons, Larry (Carolyn) of Evansdale, Scott (Lisa) of Waterloo and Tim (Diana) of Fairbank; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers, Dan and Gary Gallery, both of Sacramento, California; and two sisters, Jean Crump of Tempe, Arizona and Marilyn Mosher of Seal Beach, California.

Preceded in death by: her parents; and a sister, Norma (Willis) Eggers.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and for an hour before services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Rose Mary Schaefer
(February 15, 1923 - September 16, 2011)

Rose Mary Schaefer, 88, died Friday Sept. 16 at Windsor Care Center, Cedar Falls Ia. of natural causes.

She was born icon February 15, 1923 in Eagle Township, daughter of Lewis and Helen McGarvey Klein. She married icon Willmer J. Schaefer on November 24, 1943 at St. Mary’s. He died December 23, 1993. RoseMary was a homemaker and Teacher.

She is survived by five daughters, Miriam (Robert) Eick of Dyersville, Mary ( Howard ) Francis of Decatur, IL, Jeannette Schaefer of Waterloo, Elaine (Joe, Jr.) Siebel of Eagle Center, Coleen Hughes of Dubuque; five sons, Kenneth (Sharon) Schaefer of Rice Lake Wis., Richard (Crystal) Schaefer, Leo (Linda) and Tim Schaefer all of Waterloo and Chris (Sheila) Schaefer of Bellevue, Neb.; 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Edsill of Cedar Falls,Wilma Gilbert and Kathleen Schaefer both of Waterloo.

Rose Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter Carolyn; a son, Raymond; a granddaughter, Cynthia Marie Eick; one Gt.Grandchild two brothers, Dan and Patrick Klein and three sisters, Alice Klein, Dorothy Kressig and Monica Loftus.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Church, where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Visitation also for an hour before service at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Eileen Catherine Frost
(November 11, 1924 - September 18, 2011)

Eileen Catherine Frost, 86, of Waterloo, died Sunday September 18, at her home of a complication of a stroke.

She was born icon November 11,1924 in Aston, Iowa, daughter of William and Margaret Krogman Niichel.

She attended a country school in Pipestone Minn. and graduated from St Joseph Catholic school in Ashton,Iowa.

She married icon Vincent Frost on May 2,1944 in Jesup. He died April 21,1988.

Survivors include: four sons, Kenneth (Pat) of Hudson, Thomas(Mary Lou) of Gilbertville, James (Diane) of Waterloo, and Wayne(Barb) of Waterloo; two daughters, Kathleen (Don) Miller of Kirkland WA. and Gina (Jim) Allison of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; Frank, Brad, Doug, Eric and Aaron Frost, Georgia McMahon, Tina Hogan, Brenda Grigg, Nicole Miller, Mackenzie Allison; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Delma Schares of Jesup, IA and Regina Niichel of Rosewood, MN; two brothers, Gene (Joan) Niichel of Lake Havasu, AZ and Bill (Mary Ann) Niichel of West Pueblo, CO; and a sister-in-law Lori Niichel of AZ.

Preceded in death by: one son, Joseph in infancy; a great granddaughter, Kaitlyn McMahon in infancy; a daughter-in-law, Terry Frost; two sisters Alice (Bill) Federspiel and Lois Corkery; her brother, Earl Niichel; and a brother-in-law Herb Schares.

Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, September 21, at St. Mary's of Mt Carmel Catholic Church, Eagle Center, with burial in St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, at St. Marys of Mt Carmel Catholic church in Eagle Center, where there will be a Rosary service at 5:00 P.M. Visitation also for an hour before at the church on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to Don Bosco High School or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Julia Christine Bjorheim
(January 6, 1920 - September 19, 2011)

Julia C. Bjorheim, 91, of Waterloo, died Monday, September 19, at Allen Memorial Hospital.

She was born icon January 6, 1920 in Norway, Iowa, daughter of Nick and Julia Kolbeinson Bjorheim.

She taught country school for many years and then was a secretary/bookkeeper at Harry Fee Oil Company in Waterloo until her retirement.

Survivors include a sister, Bertha Eastman of LaPorte City and a brother, Burt (Carline) of Waterloo, also many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a sister, Helen Patten and two sisters in infancy, Lily and Darlene and two brothers, Bennie and Knute Bjorheim.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Poyner Township Cemetery.

Public visitation will be for one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Russell H. Peterson
(November 2, 1922 - September 19, 2011)

Russell H. Peterson, 88, of Waterloo died Monday, September 19, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

He was born icon November 2, 1922, in Waterloo, the son on Carl F. and Amanda Fenn Peterson. He married icon Amy Saucer at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She preceded him in death. He married icon Mildred “Millie” Schumacher in 1984 at St. John’s Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Peterson served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed as a union plumber at Koch’s, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include: his wife, Millie of Waterloo; five sons, Raymond (Shelly) of Lansing, Steven (Margaret) of Texas, Richard “Dick” of Waterloo, David (Lori) of Colorado Springs, Col, and Dennis (Gretchen) of Waterloo; five daughters, Becky (Michael) Chambers of Jacksonville, Fla, Patricia (Rex) Eyestone of Waterloo, Carmel (Tim) Spencer of Pella, Annette (Jim) Rechenberger of Waterloo, and Kim (Alan) Spencer of Clarion; 3 step daughters; Margaret (Max) Klein, Patricia (David) Minard, and Mary (Matthew) Jones all of Waterloo; two step-son-in-laws, Dan Sink and Jack Bott both of Waterloo; 24 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; 26 step-grandchildren and 45 step-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Constance Peterson; a brother, Carlton Peterson; a sister, Miriam Feldpouch; two step-daughters, Linda Sink and Carol Bott; a step-grandson, Scott Thompson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services at the church.
