Christine Botts

Christine H. Botts, 88, of Norwalk and formerly of Bloomfield, died Oct. 26, 2011, at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Funeral services will be held at the Bloomfield Christian Church on Monday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Visitation, with the family present to greet relatives and friends, will be held on Monday, Oct. 31 at the Bloomfield Christian Church from 10 a.m. until noon. P.E.O. service will be held at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Bloomfield Christian Church and may be left at the church or mailed to Memphis Funeral Home, 378 S. Market St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memphis Funeral Home.

Keith Allen

Paul Keith Allen, 75, of rural Bloomfield died Oct. 30, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. on Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars.

Evelyn Norton

Evelyn Naomi Norton, 92, of rural Bloomfield died Nov. 5, 2011 at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 at the Wagler Funeral Home with the Rev. Dick Allen officiating. Burial will be at the Drakesville Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. on Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the Drakesville Cemetery.

Mary Margaret Schares Fischels
(October 3, 1933 - June 2, 2011)

Mary M. Schares Fischels, 77, died Thursday, June 2 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

Mary was born icon October 3, 1933 in Gilbertville, daughter of Joseph and Rose Mangrich Even. She married icon Norman Schares on September 22, 1953 in Gilbertville and later divorced.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a son, David (Ann)Schares of Gilbertville; four daughters, Donna (Dan) Schmitz of LaPorte City, Patty (Abe) Camacho of Cedar Falls, Teresa Schares of Waterloo and Rita (Mark) Reiter of Sheffield; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and two on the way; a sister, Sister Therese Even, SSND of St. Paul, MN; four brothers, Anthony (Ella) Even, Norbert Even, Jerry (Connie) Even all of Gilbertville and Ted (Delores) Even of Waterloo; two sister-in-laws, Maxine of Raymond and Bernice of Jesup.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Cletus, Joseph and Leonard Even and a sister, Sister Monica Even, SSND; and a sister-in-law, Jean Even.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Joyce M. Slick
(September 14, 1925 - August 18, 2011)

Joyce M. Slick, 85, of La Porte City, died Thursday, August 18, at Allen Memorial Hospital.

She was born icon September 14, 1925, in Lamont, daughter of Loney H. and Mary Hilby Allen. She married icon Donald D. Slick June 22, 1946, in Lamont. He died July 9, 1992.

Survivors include: two sons, Greg (Cathy) Slick of La Porte City and Jeff (Kellie) Sellick of Farmer’s Branch, Texas; five daughters, Mary (Terry) Goetzinger of Waverly, Beth (Mike) Meissen of Des Moines, Terri (Gary) Jeffries of La Porte City, Renee (Eric) Miller of Aurora, Ohio and Diane (Jim) Brown of Fort Worth, Texas; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marsha (Richard) Long of Solon; two brothers, Robert (Dorothy) Allen of Manchester and Lynn (Rosemary) Allen of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Marianette Allen of Camdenton, Missouri; and a special friend, Henry Zuck of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Joyce; three sons, Craig, Bob and an infant, Donald; a grandson, Lee; two brothers, Melvin and Beryl Allen and two sisters, Mary Cannon and Evelyn Hall.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte City, with inurnment in St. Albert Cemetery, Lamont, at a later date.

Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the church in La Porte City, where there will be a 4:00 pm. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services on Monday.

Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or The Healthy Living Center in La Porte City.

Joyce was a member of St. Ann's Circle, birthday club and numerous card clubs. She was a volunteer at the Healthy Living Center and could be found there daily enjoying the company of her friends. She loved the movies, the Iowa Hawkeyes, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.

Maria Luisa Alvarado
(March 2, 1944 - August 9, 2011)

Maria Luisa Alvarado, 67, of Waterloo, formally of Tenochtitlan, Mexico, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at her home of natural causes.

She was born icon on March 2, 1944 to Juan and Maria (Zamora) Alvarado at San Martin de Hidalgo in Jalisco, Mexico.

Maria was employed in Hispanic Ministry at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Waterloo, Chaplain of Hospital and Hispanic Ministry in Bolingbrook, IL and Waterloo, IA. She was a former member of Franciscan Sisters of Sacred Heart in Frankfort, IL and also was a member of St. Dominic Church in Bolingbrook, IL and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Eagle Center, IA.

She is survived by one brother, Jesus Rodriguez of Mexico and one sister, Esperanza Alvarado Zamora.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2011 at St Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Eagle Center, IA.

Friends may call from 4-7pm on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where a 6:30pm rosary will take place.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Janice E. Mollenhoff
(July 2, 1939 - August 13, 2011)

Janice E. Mollenhoff, 72, of Waterloo, died Saturday, August 13, at home.

She was born icon July 2, 1939 in Cresco, daughter of John and Mary Junge Ott. She married icon Frank Mollenhoff on August 5, 1961 in Waterloo. He died in 1998.

Jan was employed in the office of Sacred Heart Parish for 33 years, retiring in May, 2011.

Survivors include: a son, David G. (Angela) Mollenhoff of Waterloo; two daughters, Cynthia M. (David) Sand of Waterloo and Susie (James) Poock of Waverly; seven grandchildren, Matt, Josh, Nick, Elizabeth, Sarah, Alexis and Emily; a great granddaughter, Kaylee; two sisters, Lucy Borseth of Cresco and her twin, Joyce Ormsby of Cedar Rapids; and two brothers, Orvald (Lenora) Ott of Fairbank and Francis (Gerry) Ott of Denver.

Preceded in death by: her husband; her parents; five brothers, Ervin, Florian, Herbert, Melvin and John Ott; and two sisters, Alvera Richardson and Irene Pittelko.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Eleanor I. Kacher
(August 2, 1922 - August 21, 2011)

Eleanor I. Kacher, 89, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, August 21 at New Aldaya Lifescapes.

She was born icon August 2, 1922, in Cresco, daughter of Clarence A. and Amy R. Betts Clink. She married icon Stanley Joseph Kacher December 30, 1940 in New Hampton. He died June 16, 2006.

Eleanor was a member of Amvets Auxiliary Post 19, joining in 1958. She was past financial secretary and held several local and state offices. She was state president in 1977 and 1978.

Survivors include three sons, Sterling (Jan) Clink of Story City, Stanley (Kathy) Kacher of Anchor Point, Alaska and Rick (Marilyn) Kacher of Ada, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Corson of Decorah.

Preceded in death by a son, Ron Kacher and a brother, Clarence Clink.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with entombment in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Public visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to Amvets State Scholarship.

June Allen

June B. Allen, 87, of Bloomfield died Nov. 9, 2011 at Lakeside Meadows Care Center in Osage Beach, Mo.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Kramer Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Saturday with family present to greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials have been established to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and to the Stiles Christian Church.

Everett Wood

Everett Junior Ward. 91. Floris, died Nov. 10, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at the Pierce Cemetery in Davis County with Pastor Richard Friend officiating.

Visitation will be open after 9 a.m. Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to the family.

Leroy J. Robison

Leroy J. Robison, 88, Bloomfield, formerly of Milton, died at 2:03 p.m. Saturday at the Davis County Hospital Long Term Care Unit where he had resided since Feb. 9, 2009.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, conducted by the Rev. Kevin Gingerich.

Burial with military rites by Russell-Strait Post No. 483 will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.

Visitation will be open at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials have been established to the Grace United Methodist Church, Russell-Strait Post or Friends of Lake Wapello and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 603 W. Walnut, Bloomfield.

Raymond Townsend

Glen Raymond Townsend, 81, of Bloomfield, died Nov. 27, 2011, at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating. Burial with graveside military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post No. 78 of the American Legion will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of Wapello and Davis County.
