Alice Blocker

Alice Emile Blocker, 89, of Denver, formerly of Burlington and Boynton Beach, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004.

Mrs. Blocker was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and member of the White Shrine and the Burlington Women's Club. She married Edwin W. Blocker. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Edwin W. Blocker Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., and Curtis Blocker of Denver; one daughter, Sandra Brown of Denver; 10 grandchildren; 13 great–grandchildren; eight great–great–grandchildren; one brother, James Friedman of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and four grandchildren.

The memorial service for Mrs. Blocker will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Broomfield United Methodist Church in Broomfield, Colo.

Horan & McConaty Funeral Service and Cremation of Thornton, Colo., is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Treece

Donald C. Treece, 69, of Kahoka, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

Born Dec. 30, 1933, in Denver, he was the son of Clarence A. and Marian E. Springer Treece. On Nov. 4, 1966, he married Donna M. Leach in Kahoka. She died July 3, 2003.

Mr. Treece was an electronic technician and technical director and director for KHQA–TV, WTAD and WQCY–FM radios for Lee Enterprises Inc. in Quincy, Ill., until his retirement.

He lived in Colorado until 1941, when his family moved to rural Eldon. In 1950, they moved near Revere, Mo., where in 1952 he graduated from Revere High School as salutatorian. He was a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps Reserve and designated a naval aviator. He served active duty until 1957, when he was selected a regular officer in the Marines Corps, serving until 1961 when he was placed on disability retired list and discharged in 1964. He attended the University of Missouri, and graduated from the Radio Engineering Institute in Omaha, Neb., where he was issued a first class radio telephone operator license by the FCC.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kahoka, Herman Blum Post No. 192, American Legion and Ayer–Boatman Post No. 4342 Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Kahoka. He was a life member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and a member of Hiram Lodge No. 362 A.F. & A.M. in Kahoka, where he was past master and longtime secretary. He also was a member of many other organizations, including the NRA, Northeast Missouri Library Board and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was very interested in aircraft and enjoyed attending air shows. He loved to read and never went anywhere without a book.

Survivors include one son, Donn Treece of Thornton, Colo.; two daughters, Delma Smith of Kahoka and Denise Stone of Memphis, Mo.; eight grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; and other relatives.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter and one brother.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, with public Masonic Services at 6 p.m. followed by the family receiving friends until 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Treece will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Rick Seaton, Gary Payne and Scott Yates officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Kahoka Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for H.E. Sever Memorial Library, the American Cancer Society for Clark County Relay for Life, the Grand Council charity endowment fund and the Cryptic Masons medical research foundation.

Amy Little

Amy "Thelma" Little, 86, of LaHarpe, Ill., formerly of Washington, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at her daughter's home in LaHarpe.

Born June 17, 1918, in Brighton, she was the daughter of James and Ima Pearl Rich Dawson. On Jan. 15, 1953, she married Clyde D. Little in Moline Ill. He died in 1988.

Mrs. Little taught school at Brighton Country School and worked as a homemaker.

She attended Billy Graham Christian Writing School in Minneapolis. She was a member of the First Church of God in Brighton and was a charter member of Writer's Round Table in Brighton. She enjoyed crewelembroidery, reading, pets and was a NASCAR fan.

Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Taylor of LaHarpe, Sandra Jones of Washington, and Toni Barnes of Keota; two sons, Gary Knight of Loudon, Tenn., and Terry "Speedy" Knight of Washington; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jones–Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Little will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jones–Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Gene Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.

A memorial fund has been established.

Jeanette Winegard

Jeanette Winegard, 74, of Mediapolis, died Friday evening, Jan. 19, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Funeral arrangements are pending at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis.

Albert Seitz

Albert R. Seitz, 78, of San Diego, Calif., died Monday, June 18, 2001, in San Diego.

Born Dec. 22, 1922, in Gladstone, Ill., he was the son of Jake and Florence Mason Seitz. He married Esther Rice on Nov. 12, 1948, in Burlington. She preceded him in death. He later married Marian Candelent on Dec. 27, 1990, in California.
Mr. Seitz was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for many years for Consolidated and General Dynamics Aircraft companies in San Diego.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Danny Seitz of San Diego; one daughter, Sandra Pursglove of San Diego; three grandsons; one great-grandson; several stepchildren; two sisters, Darlene Sliger of New London and Leota Rose of Burlington; one brother, Clyde Seitz of Oquawka, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral for Mr. Seitz will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Clairemont Mortuary in San Diego. Burial will be in El Camino Cemetery in Mara Mesa, Calif.

Charles Stratton

Charles Fullton Stratton, 60, of Shenandoah, formerly of Burlington, Mount Pleasant and Fort Madison, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at his home.

Born Feb. 2, 1941, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles A. and Bertha Bogle Stratton. He married Betty Warner on Dec. 2, 1983.
Mr. Stratton grew up in Burlington and was a 1960 graduate of Burlington High School. He served in the Army for 22 years, retiring Oct. 8, 1979. He then worked as a security specialist at the Mount Pleasant prison, Clarinda prison, with Pinkerton at Eaton Manufacturing Co. in Shenandoah and with Pinkerton at various companies in Fort Madison and Preferred Security in Burlington, before retiring to Shenandoah.

Survivors include his wife; one son, William Stratton of Gulfport, Miss.; one daughter, Lisa Stratton of Killeen, Texas; three stepdaughters, Vickie Cook of Lometa, Texas, Tina Sorrells of Killeen, and Terri Darling of Fort Madison; three stepsons, Tony, Vincent and Willie Damico, all of Fort Madison; three sisters, Barbara Rushell of Hot Springs, Ark., Carol Ann Tackleson of Japan and Carolyn Lowe of Burlington; his stepmother, Patsy Stratton of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

A life celebration for Mr. Stratton was June 15 at Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Shenandoah, with the Rev. Nathan Little officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, with military rites by American Legion Post 88.

Selby Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah was in charge of arrangements.

Debra Arthur

Debra E. Arthur, 44, of Winfield, died Monday, June 18, 2001, in an auto accident near Crawfordsville.

She was born Jan. 6, 1957, in Joplin, Mo. She married David Arthur on May 3, 1995.
Mrs. Arthur attended Washington High School. She worked at Crill's Country Cookin' Cafe in Winfield.

She was a member of Washington United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; her parents, LaVerne and Jane Geyer of Washington; two daughters, Heather Shimon of Kalona and Amanda Schultz of Ainsworth; one brother, Jerry Groom of Winfield; two sisters, Barb Curtis of Wyman and Alex Geyer of Washington; two stepchildren; and five granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Lee Groom, one brother and one sister.

Her body has been cremated. There will be no visitation.

The memorial service for Mrs. Arthur will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Winfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jack Bonham officiating. Burial will be in the What Cheer Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established.

Russel "Butch" Warth

Funeral services for Mr. Russel "Butch" Warth, 91, of New London, who died Tuesday, June 19, will be held Friday, June 22, at 10:00 AM at Elliott Chapel, New London. Rev. David Mixon will officiate. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery , Mt. Union. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, June 21, at Elliott Chapel, New London, and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM. IOOF Charity Lodge #56 will conduct Last Services at 6:30 PM. Memorials have been established to the New London Odd Fellows and the Dover Historical Society in lieu of flowers.

Robert Shipley

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Shipley, 85, of New London, who died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, are pending at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Lillie Sawyer

Lillie Sawyer, 81, of Keokuk, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born Sept. 13, 1919, near Montrose, she was the daughter of Andrew Joseph and Mary Malinda Peterson Linquist. She married Robert Woodrow Sawyer on Sept. 30, 1945. He died Jan. 30, 1983.
Mrs. Sawyer worked at several area grocery stores before her retirement in 1981.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Keokuk. She loved to travel and was fascinated with genealogy.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son and three brothers.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Sawyer will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Hoyt Whitebread officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Sand Cemetery at Vincennes.

A memorial has been established for her church.

Lloyd Wayland

Lloyd Merle "Whitey" Wayland, 89, of Monmouth, Ill., died at 10:15 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, at Community Medical Center in Monmouth.

Born Oct. 21, 1911, in Macomb, Ill., he was the son of Joel August and Stella Maude Bainter Wayland. He married Leola Pauline Miller on Aug. 26, 1939, in Monmouth. She died Jan. 31, 1979.
Mr. Wayland attended Macomb public schools. He farmed all his life in Macomb and Warren County, first with his father and brother in McDonough County and for the past 75 years in Warren County, near Kirkwood, Ill. He actively farmed until he was 88, and then suffered a stroke a year ago.

He was a long-time member of Warren County Farm Bureau and a member of the Moose Lodge in Burlington. He enjoyed square dancing with his wife every week for many years and also enjoyed trading cars and trucks. He loved farming.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Jean Harris of Columbia, Mo.; two grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Olson of Monmouth; his close friend and companion, Lois Paulson of Monmouth; two nieces; and two nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth.

The funeral for Mr. Wayland will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Extended Care at Community Medical Center.

Margaret Reeder

Margaret C. Reeder, 99, long-time Fort Madison resident, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the South Hampton Place Nursing Home in Columbia, Mo. Funeral arrangements are pending at Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison.

Mary Lanferman

Mary E. "Susie" Lanferman, 60, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at her home in rural Mount Pleasant.

Born Jan. 29, 1941, in Shelbyville, Ind., she was the daughter of M. Claude and Kathrine Pierce McDonald. She married Randy Lanferman on Nov. 10, 1972, in Vero Beach, Fla.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School (Ind.) in 1959 and Ervington Beauty College in 1965.

Mrs. Lanferman worked as a hair dresser in Florida until moving to Iowa in 1975. After moving to Iowa, she worked as a homemaker and as a home health aid for five years. In 1983, she went to work for Mount Pleasant Mental Health as a housekeeper and RTW. Returning to college, she graduated from Indian Hills Community College in 1994, with an associate degree in nursing. As a nurse, Mrs. Lanferman first worked at the Henry County Health Center. She went on to help start the psychiatric unit at the Jefferson County Hospital working as a nurse-manager. Mrs. Lanferman returned to state employment and worked at the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility until February 2000, needing to retire due to poor health.

Mrs. Lanferman's grandchildren were a top priority in her life. She had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi when living in Florida. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed fishing and was good at it.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Lisa Barber of rural Mount Pleasant, and Shelley Cazzell of Shelbyville; three sons, Michael Bennett, Tony Bennett, and Chris Bennett, all of Shelbyville; one sister, Pam Long of Greenwood, Ind.; one brother, Jack Scott of Shelbyville; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lanferman was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Visitation will begin at noon today at the Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Lanferman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Hank Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to Crossroads Hospice of Southeast Iowa and Grant Cemetery.
