Juanita B. Gray (1914-2011)
Juanita B. Gray, age 97, of Albia, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Monroe Care Center in Albia.
Juanita was born
April 15, 1914, in Blanket, Texas. She was the second child of Alvin and Myrtle (Rodgers) Crow. She married
Charles Gray on Dec. 30, 1944 in Alamogordo, Texas. They moved to a farm north of Albia in 1956 and Juanita has lived in Monroe County since that time.
Juanita was a past member of the NARFE Chapter 133 and United Methodist Women. She also enjoyed quilting. Juanita is survived by sons, Charles (Vicki) Gray of Davenport, John (Sherry) Gray of Cedar Rapids and Eddie Bob Gray of Albia; three grandchildren, Lisa (Darryl) Schwarz, John D. (Maureen) Gray and Jennifer Gray; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Schwarz, Carter Gray, Connor Schwarz and Owen Gray; and a brother, Clyde Crow of Fort Worth, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Gray who passed away Aug. 25, 1993; and one brother, J.B. Crow. Memorial services were held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Tharp-Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Brian Harris officiating.
Burial was in Service Chapel Cemetery in rural Albia.
Visitation began 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011, until the start of the service at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to Alzheimer's Research/NARFE.
Marsha Kay Lobberecht (1960-2011)
Marsha Kay Lobberecht, 51, of Eddyville, passed away Monday,
July 4, 2011, at the Mahaska Health Partnership.
She was born
Jan. 18, 1960 in Oskaloosa to Howard and Edythe
(Abraham) Sterling. She married
Ralph A. Lobberecht on Sept. 23,
1978 in Albia, and to this union they had three children, Ralph
Mathew, Chad Allan, and Jeremy Wade.
Marsha was a graduate of Eddyville High School, class of 1979.
She worked at the Eddyville Grade School where she took care of all kinds of things, including the children.
She loved her grandchildren and devoted much of her time to them.
She also enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of her lawn, garden, and flowers. Marsha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
Marsha was the youngest of ten and left to cherish her memory is her husband, Ralph; sons, Chad (Brea) and Jeremy (Kiley).
She was a very special grandma to five cherished grandchildren, Atalissa "Attie", Alianna, Aleea, Kinley, and Kinzey.
She is also survived by eight sisters, Shirley (Nelson) Miller, Jeannie (Dick) McCombs, Dorthy McDormand, Beverly Sterling, Mary Lou (John) Lynch, Elsie Sterling, Linda (T.J.) Johnson, and Cathy Sterling; a brother, Howard (Lisa) Sterling; mother-in-law, Evelyn "Mom" Lobberecht; sister-in-law, Alice (Rodger) Braden; brothers-in-law, Herb (Eloise), Dwane (Trena), Jim (Julie), and Ted Lobberecht; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Mathew; her parents; her special father-in-law, Ralph Matthew "Dad" Lobberecht; grandparents, Pat and Dorothy Dunwoody, Alice Bressler, and Sarah Sterling; two special uncles, George Dunwoody and Bevan Dykstra; and a special friend, Bobby Palmer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2011, at the Eddyville Christian Church with Rev. Lois Williams officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Eddyville Funeral Chapel beginning at 11 a.m., with the family present from 5-8 p.m.
Memorials will be established to a special children's cause at a later date.
Ellen Henrettia Haines 1933-2011
Ellen Henrettia Haines, age 77, of Albia, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
Ellen was born
on September 11, 1933 in Albia to Theodore and Florence (Gragg) Parker.
She married
James W. Haines on September 16, 1960 in Albia.
He preceded her in death on October 26, 2008.
Ellen grew up and attended country school in Monroe County.
She was a waitress for years, and then she was the bookkeeper for the auction barn she and James owned and operated. Later, she owned a taxi cab service in Jacksonville, IL.
She enjoyed decorating cakes and quilting, along with many other crafts.
She also liked to go bowling, going to the races, camping, and being outdoors.
Family was very important to Ellen, and she loved all the children.
Ellen is survived by her five children, Gary (Cathy) Major of Melcher, Linda (Richard) Runyan of Pleasantville, Terry (Brenda) Major of Knoxville, Mary Moore of Knoxville, and Joe (Amy) Haines of Albia; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy (Louise) Parker of Hampton, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; a son, Larry; two sisters, Katherine and Louise; and a granddaughter, Michelle. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Tharp- Winfield Funeral Home in Albia, with Rev. Don Hill officiating. Inurnment will follow services in Selection Cemetery in Monroe County.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of Monroe County.
Lois Mae Maddy (1935-2011)
Lois Mae Maddy, age 76 of Albia, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011 surrounded by family, at her home in Albia.
Lois was born
on May 8, 1935 in Buxton to Matt and Flossie (Baugh) Frazier. Lois attended and graduated from country school.
She married
Wayne D Maddy on May 22, 1953. They shared 44 years of marriage before Wayne's passing on June 27, 1997.
Lois and Wayne farmed for many years in the Weller/Albia area and she also worked for United Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She later was a teller for Peoples National Bank, and retired from Peoples State Bank, both in Albia. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Family always came first in Lois's life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her two dogs. Lois is survived by her children, Vicki (Mark) Kelley of Albia, and Scott (Melanie) Maddy of Little Rock, Ark..; five grandchildren, Travis Jones, Taylor (Yalonda) Jones, Jenny Jones-Kelley, Robbie Lovstuen, and Tony Lovstuen; and three great grandchildren, Lily, Zackary, and Cory. She is also survived by a sister, Brenda Paris of Centerville; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Deanie Schmidt. Lois is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and five brothers, Keith, Harold, Bob, Vance, and Gerald.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at Tharp-Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Neil Montz officiating.
A private family burial will be held at Union Chapel Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at the funeral home, with Lois' family present throughout the day and evening.
An open memorial has been established.
Gordon Dixon (1912-2011)
Gordon Dixon, formerly of the Bouton/Perry area, passed away into Eternal Life on Sunday morning Oct. 2, 2011, at his home in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Merle Hay Funeral Home with burial following at Chapel Hill Gardens. Visitation was one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m.
One of ten children, Gordon was born
on July 21, 1912 to Henry Harry and Jane (Johnston) Dixon in Hiteman.
He worked for Thriftway stores in Des Moines and later managed Perry Lockers, retiring to San Antonio in 1977. After moving to San Antonio, he then worked as a meat cutter for several more years.
In all his years, Gordon never knew a stranger, only friends he hadn't yet discovered. One of Gordon's hobbies was fox hunting.
While living in Bouton, he raised and kept hunting hounds and other dogs at a property near Perry, caring for all the dogs, including a few strays that came his way. He was also a member of Otley Lodge #299 in Perry for over 50 years. Gordon had friends from all over the United States, and kept those friendships close with frequent phone calls and visits.
When it came to friends and family visiting, the door was always open.
Gordon was married
to Helen Kathryn McDermott in 1936.
Together they raised three daughters and were a very loving presence in their grandchildren's lives. Gordon is survived by daughters, Elizabeth "Dixie" Powell, Mary (Bernard) Kersey and Kathy (Myron) Lindgren; grandchildren, David (Juanita) Powell, Holly (Kenny) Thompson, Nancy (William) Fellows, Kathie (Stephen) Brichant, Janet (Vernon) Kowal, Jeffrey (Karlie) Lindgren, Christopher (Sarah) Lindgren.
There are also 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, Aislynn Powell.
He is also survived by sisters, Bette Jane Bellizzi of Des Moines and Bessie Miller of Kokomo, Ind., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, on March 27, 2005; son-in-law, A.W. Powell, Jr. on March 12, 2005; as well as his parents, seven siblings and best friend, Ernest Struve.
Gordon was lovingly known to his family and friends as "Poppy".
He was well loved and will be greatly missed by all.

Ramon L. Osborn
Ramon L. Osborn, 79, of Newton, died on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Skiff Hospice Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
The family will greet friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nellie (Reed) Osborn of Newton; daughter, Sheryl (Rick) Puls of Malcom; son, Steve L. (Dana) Osborn of Newton; his three grandchildren, Tanner Puls of Malcom, Heather Osborn, and Spencer Osborn, both of Newton; two brothers; two sisters; a sister-in-law; and his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Walt, Wayne, and Oliver; and three sisters, Blanch, Doris, and Ruth.
Memorials to the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League may be left at the funeral home.
