Clyde Fickes

Clyde R. Fickes, 89, died at his home Friday, August 3, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Clyde was born icon April 19, 1918 to Clyde and Mona Fickes in Des Moines. He graduated from East High in 1936. Clyde served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He graduated from Drake University College of Liberal Arts in June of 1954, he received his degree of Bachelor of Laws from Drake University Law School in August of 1954 and went on to receive his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Drake University Law School in October of 1968. Clyde was a Representative of Champion International (now International Paper) until his retirement in 1979. He was a 50 year member of the Eastgate Masonic Lodge, the Des Moines Consistory, ZaGaZig Shrine, Downtown Lions, Elks Club and Baldwin Patterson American Legion.

Clyde is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Fickes and his nieces and nephews, Richard N. Erickson, June C. Goodman, Jeanne A. Fisher, Curtis C. Erickson, Norma Jean Sandoval, Robert L. Fickes, Clyde W. Fickes, Marda J. Fickes, Mona A. Fickes and John K. Fickes.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eastgate Masonic Lodge.

Robin Sinclair

Robin L. Sinclair, 41, died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Iowa Health Taylor House Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 6 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will take place after the services and a private family burial will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Robin was born icon August 29, 1965 to Darwin and Judy (McNeley) Dorsey in Des Moines. She worked in customer service for U-Haul of Iowa.

Robin is survived by her sons, Justin, Anthony and Stephan Sinclair; father, Darwin Dorsey, Sr.; sister, Jennie Connett; brothers, Lawrence Dorsey and Darwin Dorsey, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Judy Dorsey.

Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Taylor House Hospice.

Frances Foggia

Frances Ann Foggia closed her eyes and met her God on Friday, Aug. 3 at Mercy Medical Center.

Frances was born icon on February 22, 1920 to Joseph and Rose Grandanette in Des Moines, IA. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy.

Frances and her husband Michael Foggia owned and operated Kewpie Barbecue at 2nd and University Ave. Frances worked at her brothers’ deli., Bernie’s Deli, and The American Child Academy

Frances was preceeded in death by her husband Michael J. Foggia, brothers Ross and Bernard Grandanette, and her sister, Mary Comito.

Those left to honor her memory are daughters, Jeannene McIntosh (Larry), Shelley Schultz (David) and her son Michael Foggia (Louise). Her grandchildren are Robert Oliver (Brenda), Terry McIntosh, Jennifer Adams, Chrissy Karst (Jeremy), Natalie Adams, and Michael and Milena Foggia. Great grandchildren are Danielle McIntosh, Matthew and Clairetta Karst, and Grace and Robert Oliver. Her sisters, Rose Chiodo and Lucille Foggia. Frances is also survived by her sister-in-law Joan Grandanette and numerous nieces and nephews.

To celebrate Frances’ life there will be a visitation at Hamilton Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, on Sunday, August 5, from 5-7 pm with a rosary at 7 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, August 6, at 10:00 am at St. Ambrose Cathedral.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Drumm Care Center, American Cancer Society, or American Heart Association.

Johnny Patton, Jr.

Johnny Lee Patton, 49, peacefully went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Kavanagh on 56th. After a gathering of his family, his body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, 1338 9th St.

Johnny was born icon January 27, 1958 to John and Jennie Patton in Sardis, Mississippi. He moved to Des Moines in 1968. He was most recently employed by Target and Pizza Hut. Johnny was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. He was fun loving and loved by all who knew him.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Janet; parents, John and Jennie Patton; sisters, Ruthie Duncan, Eva Mae Grayson, Beulah Patton, Dorothy Patton, and Betty Lester; brothers; M.C., Robert, Henry, James, Tommy Lee, Jerry and Terry Patton and Glen Lester. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Linda Williamson.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Vince Osborn

Vince Osborn, 40, died at home Tuesday, July 31, 2007. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Vince was employed by National Auto Brokers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Vince loved Harleys, West Coast Choppers, tattoos, hunting, NASCAR and NHRA.

Vince is survived by his son, Bodie; companion, Diane Lockner and her children, Lindsey, Nathan and Courtney; parents, Dean “Killer” and Diana Osborn; sister, Kim (Shawn) Leader; nieces, Amber and Lillie; best friends, Chad and Shane Miller; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lawrence Dennis

Lawrence Emil "Lorney" Dennis died on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at Trinity Center Luther Park. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2007 at All Saints Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, with a 5 p.m. scripture service at Hamilton's near Highland memory Gardens.

Lorney was born icon on April 12, 1915 to William H. and Mary (Couch) Dennis. His parents, sister Florence Dennis and brothers Carol (Rosalie), Harry (Beulah), and Donald all preceded him in death. Lorney grew up on the north side and graduated from North High School in the early 1930’s. He was an Army veteran of WWII serving in North Africa, Italy and France.

Talented on roller skates, he met Lucile Ann Jeffers at a roller rink in the 1930s. They married icon on August 16, 1940 and celebrated 66 years of life together. Their son Lawrence William "Bill" was the center of their lives. Lorney engaged Bill in skating, hunting, fishing and especially scouting. As a scout leader he continued until several of "his boys" achieved Eagle Scout status even after Bill went to college.

After returning from the war, he developed his own roofing business and continued that until retirement in his 70's. Even after retirement, he was active in answering handyman calls from many widows and friends. He could repair just about anything.

His church was very important to him, and he was active with that throughout his married icon life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, continued with a Renew group for 12 years, sang in the choir, and helped with the various functions and activities whenever he could.

Active was a key word for Lorney. He was a whiz at cribbage, pitch and pinochle. He would roller skate occasionally until he was 80. He continued with his bowling leagues until his late 80s and he was an excellent gardener. The Couch-Dennis reunion as well as neighbors and friends could count on baskets of tomatoes and cucumbers in huge supply. He also enjoyed meeting with his North High pals and was a member of the American Legion Post 374.

He is survived by his wife, Lucile; son, Bill (Rhonda); daughter-in-law, Cicily Dennis; grandson, David (Angela Rubino) and great-granddaughter, Sophia Elizabeth; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dennis and Harriett Petosa; brother-in-law, Carl Jeffers; and best friend Bill Porter along with several nieces and nephews and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church.

Carl Egli

Carl R. Egli, 70, died August 5, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Volga, IA. Memorial services will also be held at a later date in San Antonio, TX.

Carl was born icon September 8, 1936 in Volga, IA to Carl and Hazel Egli. He was an Army Veteran.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Patricia (John) Vienup of Bethany, OK; sons, Kurt (Shelley) Egli of Austin, TX and Kenny (Michelle) Egli of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Robert Egli of Tennessee and Ronald of Texas; and five grandchildren, Kyla, Katelyn, Garrett, Kendall and Camden.

Irene Patrick

Irene Patrick, 81, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at her home.

Irene was born icon in Warren County, Iowa the youngest of five children born icon to Maymie and T.S. Davidson. She grew up and lived her life in East Des Moines.

Irene married icon Blaine Patrick on June 9, 1945 at Ft. Benning, Georgia and they enjoyed 52 years of loving companionship. She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers for over 25 years. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking, reading, gardening, bowling and sharing time with family and friends. She was a member of Grant Park Christian Church.

She is survived by her son, Bennie (Linda) Patrick of Des Moines, daughter, Becky (Pat Heeney) Patrick of Coalmont, Colorado, grandsons, Bennie (Johnie) Patrick of Elizabeth, Colorado, Jeff (Tracy) Patrick, Chris (Barbara Burn) Patrick of Des Moines and Nick Fettkether of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, great granddaughters, Kelsie and Nicole Patrick, great grandsons, Steven, Jacob, Devin and Hunter Patrick and nieces, nephews and her best friend, John Netherow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine and her siblings, a granddaughter, Patricia Patrick and grandson, Kelly Fettkether.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family requests memorial contribution may be made to Taylor Hospice House.

Jim Halsten

Jim Halsten, 64, of Des Moines, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville, IA. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home. The visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Following the funeral service Jim will be cremated.

Jim was born icon February 27, 1943 in Des Moines to Ole and Sarah Halsten. While in the Army, Jim was stationed in Germany. Jim enjoyed playing guitar, collecting records, horse racing, drag racing, and he was a wonderful son, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his mother, Sarah Emery, of Ankeny; his sisters, Carolyn (Donald) Erickson, of Des Moines; Sharon (Larry) Critchlow, of Des Moines; Sandy Halsten (Don Charron), of Des Moines; his brother, Jerry (Chris) Halsten, of Urbandale; his sister-in-law, Linda Halsten, of Creston; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Ole Halsten; his brother, Marvin Halsten; and his brother Ron Halsten.

Stephen McElvogue

Stephen McElvogue, 57, died Friday, August 3, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at River of Life Assembly of God Church, 1117 E. 12th Street. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

Stephen is survived by his mother, Mabel McElvogue and his brother, David and his wife, Brigetta McElvogue.

He was preceded in death by his father, James “Fred” McElvogue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to River of Life Assembly of God Church.

Adam Johnson

Adam Johnson, 28, died July 30, 2007 at Mercy Hospital.

Adam is survived by his father, TG Johnson, mother, Roberta Johnson, brother, Travis Johnson, sister, Megan Johnson, grandmother, Lorraine Kern Hutchinson, and 6 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandfather, James Kern and grandparents Ted and Betty Johnson.

Adam graduated Saydel High School in 1997 and attended Iowa Western College and Grandview College. Adam enjoyed playing baseball in high school and college. He worked as a floor layer and electrician. He had attended Bethany Reformed Church.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Pinehill Cemetery in Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Saydel High School Baseball.

Hamilton’s is taking care of his arrangements.

April Estes

April Jene Estes, 57, of Des Moines, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, IA. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Cemetery after services

April was born icon January 24, 1950 in Des Moines to Roger and June Davis. April loved spending time with family and grandchildren were a major part of her life. She enjoyed to create silk flowers

She is survived by her husband, Jim Estes; daughters, Sharina (Daniel) Brangers; Victoria Caldwell; son, Randall Wilson; five grandchildren, Sarah Meyers; Cheyenne Brangers; Whitney Caldwell; Hunter Brangers ; Zachary Caldwell.

April was preceded in death by her first husband, Stephen Wilson; father, Roger Davis; and grandparents, Charles and Alice Crabtree.
