Bill Hartley

Billy C. Hartley, 71, of Des Moines, formerly of Ottumwa, died on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the Pella Regional Hospital from complications of a stroke. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Swan Cemetery in Swan, Iowa.

Bill was a retired machine welder at DICO, Inc. He was an Army veteran of the Korean war, enjoyed listening to Gospel music and was a beloved father and grandfather.

He is survived by his children Marvin (Sherry) Kingen of Des Moines, Melodee (Ryan) Brown of Clovis, California, Martin Kingen of Des Moines, Nancie (Tom) Nikas of Knoxville, Barbara (Jim) Bacon of Knoxville and Brenda Saltzman of Knoxville, his brother John (Barb) Hartley of Ottumwa, his sister Marilyn Shepherd of Bakersfield, California, the mother of his children Eleanor Limke of Knoxville as well as 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Edith Potter Hartley, his brother Jack Hartley and sister Gertrude Huff.

Kathryn Fitzpatrick

Kathryn Fitzpatrick, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, a retired City of Des Moines Park and Recreation Director.

She is survived by her stepson, Ron Edwards; stepdaughter, Colleen Dowie; sister, Nancy Woodin; six nieces; one nephew; eleven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Mercy Court Chapel, 921 6th Avenue.

Josef Estermann

Josef Estermann, 78, died Wednesday August 1, 2007 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home at 5 PM Friday with cremation to follow services. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services.

Josef was a foreman for Cargill Inc. until his retirement in 1994. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Helen. He is survived by his three sons, Karl (Carla) Estermann, David (Paula) Estermann and Joseph Estermann, Jr.; two daughters, Helga Van De Boe and Brigette (Bradley) Donahoo; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Ronald Reed, Jr.

Ronald Reed, Jr., 49, died at home, Monday, July 30, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ron was born icon November 19, 1957 in Des Moines. He was a life long Des Moines resident. Ronald was a truck driver for City Supply Corp for 18 years and also drove for Sealy Mattress Factory. He was a member of the pit crew for Davis Racing and an avid racing fan.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Shan Reed; children, Robyn, Andy, “Big” Amanda, “Little” Amanda, “Pee Wee” and Samantha; his mother, Joann Rose; stepmother, Marilyn Hutchinson; brother, Donnie (Jennifer) Sparks; sisters, Brenda (Jim) Todd, Cindy (Dan) Miller and Ruth (David) Hunter; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ron Reed, Sr. and his son, Quentin Reed.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Suan Chang

Suan C. Chang, 90, passed away July 29, 2007 at the Trinity Center of Luther Park.

Graveside services will be held at 2pm Wednesday at Highland Memory Gardens.

Winifred Howe

Winifred B. Howe, 88, died Monday, July 30, 2007 at Park Ridge Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 1st at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.

Winifred was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; granddaughter, three sisters; two brothers as well as her parents. She is survived by her sons, Leo (Patricia) and Dale (Joy); brother, Dewitt McVey; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Tiffany Ann Hraha-Myers

Tiffany Ann Hraha-Myers, 26, passed away, Sunday, July 29, 2007. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2007 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Tiffany’s body will be cremated.

Tiffany grew up in Des Moines. She loved spending time with her children, loved to read, listen to music, and watch movies. She recently accepted god in her life. Tiffany was very caring for others, intelligent, creative and compassionate. She also loved her critters.

Tiffany is survived by her mother and best friend Tammy and step-father, Ernie Shaw; father, Michael Hraha; fiance, Aaron Myers; children, Jaselle Analeigh Myers and Taryn Olmeda; Taryn's father Michael Olmeda; grandparents, Francis and Shirley Hraha and LaMar and Priscilla Myers; and grandfather, David Naylor. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Anna Lee Naylor Wood.

Dennis Friedmeyer

Dennis “D.W.” Friedmeyer, passed away Monday, July 30, 2007. A private family service will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at a later date at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Dennis is survived by his children, Deanna (Rob) Bridges, Cindy Tonasket and Gary Friedmeyer; brothers, Gerald (Shirley), Tim and Andy (Jennifer) Friedmeyer; and granddaughter, Madeline.

Susie Thomas

Susie Mae (nee Baker) Thomas of Des Moines (formerly Newton), 83, died on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Kavanagh House on 56thfrom cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Tuesday July 31, 2007 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3600 75th Street, Urbandale. Burial will occur at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Susie was born icon June 9, 1924 to Daniel and Lizzie Baker in De Soto, Iowa. She married icon Harold Thomas on April 4, 1947 and worked in dietary for 30 years at Skiff Hospital in Newton. Susie was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and an active member of the United Methodist Women.

Susie is survived by her husband, Harold; daughter, Carol Thomas of Urbandale; sisters, Sarah Parkinson of Colorado and Luete (Robert) Baker of Ohio; and many other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph (Bernice), John (Margory), Martin, Robert (Deloris), and Curtis (Libby), all Baker; sisters, Mary, Nellie (Fred) Prohaska, Dorothy (Eugene) Marquardt, Betty, and Madilene (Harold) Mathews; and granddaughter, Danielle Rae Thomas.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2007 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkwary, 3601 Westown Parkway.

Memorial contributions may be given to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Frankie Heisler

Frankie G. Heisler, 72, of Des Moines died on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a short bout with pancreatic cancer. Graveside funeral services will be at 3 P.M. Saturday, November 10th at the Basco South Cemetery in Basco, Illinois. The family will greet friends from 6-8 P.M. Thursday evening at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home.

Frankie was born icon in Lorraine, Illinois and had started working for the United States Postal Service in 1959. In 1960 his work with the Postal Service brought him to Des Moines where he retired as a supervisor after 31 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of Des Moines, his mother Vera Heisler of Basco, Illinois, his son Steve (Sandi) Heisler of Des Moines, his daughter Shari (Bill) Burke of Dagsboro, Delaware, his sister Mary Jane (Roger) Greever of Des Moines, his brother Jack Heisler of Iowa City, his sister-in-law Eleanor Heisler of Franklin, Massachusetts, his grandchildren Sarah (Matt) Cowie and Matthew Heisler both of Des Moines and Keaton, McKenna, and Declan Burke of Dagsboro, Delaware as well as his great granddaughter Madison Cowie of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his father Ronald Heisler and brother Don Heisler.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or the Basco, Illinois Community Center.

Bruce Kellogg

Bruce A. Kellogg, 57, died November 6, 2007. Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Middle River Friends Church, 4057 S 23 Highway, Carlisle, Ia. 50047. The Church is two miles SE of Carlisle on Hwy 5 and one mile S on S23 Hwy , 515-989-3319.

Bruce grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa. He was a graduate of Roosevelt & Drake Univ. He worked as a Disc Jockey, Iowa Power, & set up an acct. payable system for Drake Univ. His travels took him to CA, where he graduated from San Diego State with a degree in Engineering/Physics. Bruce was a member of Mensa and taught at the San Diego State University. He worked as a contractor for Civil Defense, in management at Alcatel, and was part of the management team that setup the automation process for the Des Moines Register. Bruce moved back to Iowa in the late ‘90’s to research his Quaker roots, where he found peace. Memorials may be given to the Middle River Friends Church where Bruce was an active member.

Bruce is survived by his sister, Adrienne Kellogg; two daughters Kristin (Kevin) Belcher and Megan Kellogg; two granddaughters Emily 10 and Jordan 8, and many, many friends. In the end all that matters is the love we make has to be greater than the love we take and Bruce was well loved because of the love he gave.

Opal Lucille Little

Opal Little, 75, passed away November 7, 2007 at Karen Acres. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Opal was born icon May 1, 1932 in Mercer, MO to Archie and Olivia Stark. She lived in the Des Moines area most of her life. Opal retired from CDS in 1996. After retirement, she volunteered as a “grandparent teacher’s helper” in several Des Moines area elementary schools. Opal loved to dance and spend time with her grandchildren.

Opal is survived by her children, Joanne Reynolds, Ronnie Little, Jimmy Little, Diane Hines and Rhonda Sawyer; sisters, Ruth Stark, Rosie Bevers, Darlene Huett and Shirley Tulton; brothers, Clifford and Ira Stark; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Holt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Steven Hogbin

Steven Hogbin, Sr., 61, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Steven was born icon June 12, 1946 in Moline, IL. He was the owner and operator of a residential moving company. Steven enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Steven is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Donna; children, Debra (Charles) Burkett, Steven Hogbin, Jr. and Robert Hogbin; brothers, Ron Hogbin and Tom Heater; and his four beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Steven was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
