Robert Woods

Robert E. “Woody” Woods, 90, passed away Monday, December 10, 2007, at his home in Des Moines. He was born icon August 20, 1917 to Ralph and Mabel Woods in Ankeny, Iowa.

Woody enjoyed watching the Hawkeye’s, baseball, sports on t.v., and having Sunday dinners with his family. He served in the United States Army during WWII until, his honorable discharge in December 1945. He received two Bronze Stars.

Robert is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jeanette Woods, his children: Robert W. (Chris) Woods, Jeorjette (Derek) Twogood and Diana (Steve) Kouri, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his step-brother, Robert (Sherry) Prather and his step-mother, Ruth Woods. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Woods, mother, Mabel Burnett and his daughter, Martha Ann Marquis.

He will be deeply missed by all that know him.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Home Hospice or to the family in loving memory of Woody.

Robert Trotter

Bob Trotter, 91, passed away peacefully on December 9th. He was preceded in death on September 30, 2007 by Ruth, his beloved wife of 67 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and granddaughter Joan Wagener. He is survived by the family he loved and treasured – his daughters Linda (Jeff) Lund and Suzi (Glenn) Erickson, grandchildren Kathy (Rod) Novak, Jim (Carrie) Ferris, Tom (Cheryl) Ferris, Kristi (Lonnee) Vandenheuvel, Robb Oler, and Becky (Bill) Louk, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Born in Bennett, Iowa, his family moved to the Highland Park area of Des Moines while he was still a child. After graduation from North High School, he went to business college, and then began working at United Federal Savings and Loan Association in Des Moines. In 1938 he began his career as an examiner with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. In 1958 he became Chief Examiner for the five-state area, retiring after over 40 years of service in 1978. During his 29 years of retirement, he and Ruthie enjoyed traveling, their cabin in Minnesota, his volunteering for the blood bank, Grand View Lutheran Church, playing and singing in Clancy’s Banjo Revival Band, his Masonic and Shrine activities, golfing, bowling and a busy social calendar.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home at 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Services will be at Grand View Lutheran Church, East 13th and Hull in Des Moines at 11:00 AM, December 14th with interment at Highland Memory Gardens. Memorials are preferred to Grand View Lutheran Church.

Jack Naughton

Jack A. Naughton, 86, of Des Moines died on December 10, 2007 at his home of cancer. Jack has been cremated and interment of the cremains will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in the spring. Jack was a cable tester at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and retired in 1980 after 36 years of service. He was an army veteran of WWII where he served in the Signal Corps. He is survived by his wife Genevieve Naughton, his daughters Linda Beebe of Weslaco, Texas and Connie Topp of Rock Island, Illiois, his son Michael Naughton of Des Moines, 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Anna Lancaster

Anna Margaret Lancaster, 91, passed away December 10th, 2007 at the Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5-7 P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Anna Margaret was born icon on a farm in Madison County to Carl and Elizabeth Randall on July 3, 1916. She grew up in Des Moines graduating from Lincoln High School and was married icon to Jack Lancaster for 65 years. She and Jack lived in Goshen, Indiana where she had worked at CTS in Elkhart, Indiana, retiring in 1978. Following retirement, she and Jack moved to Avon Park, Florida and following his death, she moved to Norwalk to be closer to her family.

She is survived by her son Douglas (Barbara) Lancaster of Wolcottville, IN, her sister Lola (Robert) Hill of Norwalk, IA, her two grandchildren, Brian Lancaster of Sherman Oaks, CA and Teresa Turner of Denver, CO; Her three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Anna was interested in crafts, was a member of the Bevington Garden Club, the Norwalk United Methodist Church and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame fan. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents Elizabeth and Carl Randall and brothers Warren and Bob Randall.

Pamela Hunter

Pamela Hunter, 55, of Altoona, died unexpectedly Dec. 11, 2007. Services will be Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 721 E. 1st St, Ankeny, IA. with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW Friday, Dec 14, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

Pam is survived by her husband Michael, son Christopher, and twin daughters; Alicia and Amanda. She is also survived by her mother, Charlotte Bisconer of Fortuna, and her brothers and sisters: Evelyn, Skip, Linda, Marsha, Candy, Kim, Michelle, Terry, and Lori, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Milo “Beanie”Bisconer.

Pam was loved by her family,as well as by the many daycare children that she cared for over the years.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Blank Children’s Hospital in Pamela’s honor.

LeRoi Austin Jr.

LeRoi Don Austin Jr., 52, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will take place at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 8pm Friday at the funeral home.

LeRoi was born icon June 23, 1955 in San Francisco, CA. He served in the US Navy from 1973-1977. He had worked at a number of places including Stone Container but most recently for the past 8 yrs. he was a newspaper carrier for the Des Moines Register. LeRoi loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing the guitar, liked runnng and lifting weights.

He and his father loved making wood furniture together.

LeRoi is survived by his daughters, Christina Gabel (James), Mandee Smith (Zachary) and Heather Austin (Andy Buckner); his mother, Janet Austin-Lieske,; his grandchildren; Megan Austin, Alec Gabel, Scott Driskill, Avery and Eleanor Smith; his siblings, Lorna Britson (Bruce), Daniel and Gerald Austin, Shirley Schulz (John) and Patty Hines (Brian). He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoi Austin Sr.

Paul Jay

Paul Bruce Jay, 65, died at his home Wednesday, December 12, 2007. His body has been cremated and services will be held at a later date.

Paul is survived by his son, Troy Sease; grandson, Kayden Sease; mother, Bernice Jay; brother, Verlin Jay; and his nephews, Jason and Johnny. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul W. Jay.

Shane Olcott

Shane Olcott, 31, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007, in Rockwell City, Iowa. Shane was born icon on July 11, 1976 in Des Moines, Iowa. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Shane enjoyed spending time with friends and family as well as training seeing eye dogs.

Shane is survived by his mother, Debra Butters; father, Forrest Olcott; sisters, Debra McCrea, Amy Biegger, Kim Balch, Stacey Haines, Shawnnae Jones and Katina Connor; brother, Jamie Olcott and grandma, Roberta Ellenwood. Shane was preceded in death by his brother, Terrance “Tony” Surber.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. Friends may visit with the family Thursday, December 13, 2007 from 6 p.m-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Shane.

Jerry McWilliams

Jerry Alan McWilliams, 68, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at his home. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Jerry was an Army Veteran and a painting contractor in Des Moines for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time at Gray’s Lake.

He is survived by sons, Jerry Jr. (Nova), Steve and Scott McWilliams; daughter, Jodie McWilliams; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; five brothers. He was preceded in death by his sister.

Lawrence Lumley

Larry Lumley, 67, of Altoona died peacefully December 13, 2007 at the Kavanaugh House on 56 th St. in Des Moines. He was born icon December 11, 1940 to Newman and Doris Lumley in Macon, Georgia.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday December 17, 2007 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3:00 to 7:00pm Sunday at the funeral home with the family present from 4:00 to 7:00pm.

Larry was a retired Greyhound Bus driver with 23 years of safe driving traveling 48 of the 50 states. He proudly served in the USAF from 1959-1963 having been stationed in Texas, Alaska and California. He had many hobbies that included Nebraska Cornhusker football, Southern Gospel music, his dogs; Buster and Riley. Larry loved to laugh and find ways to bring laughter to others.

He was married icon to Barbara JoAnn Norris October 22, 1961 and they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary seven weeks prior of Larry’s death. To this marriage they have two sons: Kenneth W. (Marla) Lumley and Robert K. Lumley whom he is survived by. He also leaves three grandchildren; Alexis, Isaiah and Jonathan and one brother, Richard Kenneth Lumley.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rufus Celathial Lumley.

Memorial contributions can be made to Kavanaugh House on 56th St.

Thomas Tobin

Thomas L. Tobin, 77, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center after a brief illness. Services are Saturday, December 15, at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 7075 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines. A visitation with family present will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass and luncheon.

Tom was born icon August 28, 1930, in Buffalo, New York, the son of Thomas V. and Margaret A. Tobin. He graduated from Canisius High School and received a journalism degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served three years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. After returning home, he married icon Cecily Mary Welch on June 29, 1957, and worked in public relations for several years in Buffalo.

The couple moved to Ithaca, New York in 1962, where Tom worked in public information and state relations at Cornell University until 1975. He then became the Director of University Relations at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. While in that position, he was instrumental in the capital fundraising campaign to build Carver Hawkeye Arena and also earned a Masters degree in Journalism from the university.

From 1980 until 1993, Tom held positions as vice president of development at the University of Illinois, The Ohio State University and the University of South Florida where he successfully directed major development campaigns at all three institutions. After his retirement, he continued to work in education, health care and community service fundraising as a consultant, and formed the consulting firm Tobin & Associates in 1998 after moving to West Des Moines.

Tom was an avid reader, sports enthusiast, loved to play golf and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by Cecily, his wife of 50 years, daughters Kathleen (Scott) Giles of West Des Moines and Cecily (Roberto) Simon of Ridgewood, New Jersey, son Thomas Tobin of West Des Moines, and five grandchildren: Mike, Ryan and Dan Giles; and Nicholas and Kathleen Simon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either St. Francis of Assisi Church; the Animal Care Foundation of Central Iowa, 6110 Creston Ave., Des Moines; or the West Des Moines Community Schools Foundation, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines.

Arrangements are being handled by Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway.

Alma Vaughn

Des Moines - Alma I. Vaughn, 97, passed away December 11, 2007. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Alma is preceded in death by her husband, William C. Vaughn and children, William L. Vaughn and Nancy B. Dyer.

She is survived by her children, Donald Vaughn of Des Moines and Kathleen (Ralph) Anderson of Davenport along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
