Marcella Ertz

Marcella "Sally" B. Ertz, 80, of Burlington, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 24, 1920, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edwin and Beata Weicher Hertel. On Jan. 9, 1943, she married Robert Joseph Ertz in Burlington. He died June 19, 1993.
Mrs. Ertz was a medical secretary for Surgeons Inc. and the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. Before that, she worked as a legal secretary for a law firm.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of Sts. John and Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Paula Buhrow of Burlington; three sons, Nicholas E. Ertz of Downers Grove, Ill., Michael C. Ertz of Burlington and Patrick J. Ertz of Raytown, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mary Steingraber of Burlington.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends following a 6 p.m. Christian wake service until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church.

The Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Ertz will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for St. John Catholic Church.

Raymond DeBlieck

Raymond DeBlieck, 81, of Geneseo, Ill., died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at Forest Hill Nursing Center in East Moline, Ill.

Born Oct. 24, 1919, in Atkinson Township, Ill., he was the son of Evo and Augusta VanNorway DeBlieck. On Nov. 9, 1940, he married Doris E. Obrecht in Iowa City. She died Sept. 19, 1993.
Mr. DeBlieck farmed most of his life. He also worked for Ferry-Morse Seed Co. until retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Geneseo and was a 50-year member of Geneseo Moose Lodge 990. He loved his family and neighbors, the Chicago Cubs and playing gin rummy.

Survivors include two sons, Butch DeBlieck of Burlington and Rod DeBlieck of East Moline; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen DesCamps and Ann DeCapp, both of East Moline; and two brothers, John DeBlieck of East Moline and Roy DeBlieck of Alexis, Ill.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, two sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services in Geneseo. A service by the Moose will be at 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. DeBlieck will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Geneseo. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo.

A memorial has been established for the Ray DeBlieck Memorial Fund.

RAYMOND K. PEARSON

Funeral Services for Mr. Raymond K. Pearson, 93, of Burlington will be held in the First United Methodist Church this morning at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Dr. Dennis Tevis will officiate. Interment with full graveside military rites conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League and AmVets Post 52 will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church.

Joann Jones

Joann M. Jones, 68, of Wever died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at her home.

Born March 1, 1936, in Birmingham, she was the daughter of Samuel Walter and Bertha Ellen Pickral Crafton. On Nov. 7, 1956, she married Thomas M. Jones Sr. in Nauvoo, Ill.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker. She also worked as a social worker and with home health care.

She was a graduate of Birmingham High School and attended Southeastern Community College. She was of the Protestant faith. She loved playing bingo, gardening, collecting dolls, playing tic tac toe, fishing and going to the casino.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Pam Bullard of Keokuk and Sherry Roxane Jones of Longview, Calif.; one son, Thomas M. Jones Jr. of Fort Madison; four grandchildren; three great–grandchildren; four sisters, Mildred Brown of Burlington, Marjorie Jarmes of Fairfield, Marilyn Rettig of Wever and Idora Crafton of Keosauqua; and three brothers, Roy Crafton of Le Claire, Kenneth Crafton of Waterloo and Leonard Crafton of Birmingham.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, her parents and three brothers, one in infancy.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Jones will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. William Porter officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Howard Tatman

Howard J. "Shorty" Tatman, 70, of Monmouth, Ill., died at 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville, Ill.

Born Oct. 29, 1934, in Monmouth, he was the son of James and Madge A. Ostrom Tatman. He married Mary Elizabeth Rixie. They later divorced.

Mr. Tatman was employed by Ken Addleman and worked at the Chevrolet/Oldsmobile dealership in Monmouth. He later worked for Maytag for 32 1/2 years, retiring in 1986. Following retirement, he worked with his brothers at their car dealerships in Monmouth.

He attended local Monmouth schools and was a member of VFW, American Legion and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed cars, raising and racing horses, rodeos and raccoon hunting.

Survivors include one daughter, Nelma Jean Almaguer of Monmouth; one son, Charlie "Jimmy" Tatman of Monmouth; five grandchildren; one great–grandchild; three brothers, Don, Richard and Robert Tatman, all of Monmouth; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and four brothers.

Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday at Turnbull Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The funeral for Mr. Tatman will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Ill.

A memorial has been established to Immaculate Conception Catholic School.

ARTHUR JOHN MANUSH

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Arthur John Manush, 85, of Bur–lington, who died on Thursday, February 14, 2002, at Great River Medical Center, will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2002, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Paul's Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Full military honors will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard. The family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to the time of service. Mr. Manush is survived by his wife, Catherine; daughter, Catherine; son, John; sister, Marjorie; grandchildren, John, Melissa and Jennifer Maurer; and great–grandchildren, Erin, Mason and Catherine. Memorials have been established for the Knights of Columbus or Elks Lodge 184. As per the request of Mr. Arthur John Manush, his body has been cremated.

Opal Kuntz

Opal Kuntz, 90, of Burlington, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her home. Arrangements are pending at Prugh Funeral Service.

Maxine King

Veda Maxine King, 70, of Rogers, Ark., died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at her home. Born May 16, 1934, in Farmington, she was the daughter of Frank Mathew and Veda Maxine Lenz Cox. On Sept. 13, 1953, she married Robert D. King in Middletown.

Mrs. King and her husband owned King Insurance Agency in Milton from 1975 to 1990, when they retired to Arkansas. She was a 1952 graduate of Danville High School. She liked garage sales, flea markets and antiques.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ron King of Sand Springs, Okla., and Doug King of Benton, Ark.; one daughter, Krista King of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren and one sister, Donna Hornberg of Keosauqua. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. King will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Salem Friends Church in Salem, with the Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Salem South Cemetery in Salem. A memorial has been established.

Mary Smith

Mary Cecil Harris Smith, 93, of Danville, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at West Point Care Center in West Point.

Born Aug. 11, 1908, in Henry County, she was the daughter of George E. and Mary Etta Matheny Cooper. She married Wayman L. Harris on Dec. 4, 1926, in Mount Pleasant. He died April 9, 1953. She later married Richard Smith on Aug. 15, 1958, in Monmouth, Ill.
Mrs. Smith attended South Linwood School in Baltimore Township. She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 18 years, retiring in 1975.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Madison. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting andembroidery and loved making cookies for her grandchildren. Farming was her lifestyle and she enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Leon Harris of Danville and Lloyd Harris of Mount Union; two daughters, Wanda Smith of West Point and Mary Lou Oliver of Burlington; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Smith will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Consorcia Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Memorials have been established for Alzheimer's Treatment and Research and the Danville Public Library.

Muriel Mitchell

Muriel Annalee Mitchell, daughter of Arthur Clell Thomas and Edna Christina Luth Thomas, was born in Burlington, Iowa, Oct. 14, 1924, and passed away at Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at the Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center in Osceola, Iowa, at the age of 76 years.

She attended Sperry Consolidated School and graduated from Sperry High School and went on to graduate from Burlington Nursing Academy.
Muriel lived all of her life in the Burlington and New London area except for the past two months in Osceola, Iowa. She was an LPN and had worked in Nursing Homes in New London and the Elm View Nursing Home in Burlington, Iowa. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Burlington, Iowa.

Muriel enjoyed growing her plants, crocheting and knitting, going fishing and was a great cook.

She is survived by her devoted family, Christina S. McLaury of Huntsville, Ala., Linda Porter and husband, Robert, of Osceola, Iowa, Thomas W. Dowell and wife, Jullian L., of Rock Island, Ill., Dawn D. Holmes of Burlington, Iowa; her brother, Howard Thomas of Jacksborough, Texas, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Muriel will be greatly missed by her friends and family and her memory will be cherished by all of those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Mitchell was cremated and Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at the First Assembly of God Church in Burlington, Iowa, with the Pastor Don Crawford officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Burlington.

Roy Huff

Roy W. Huff, 86, of Keokuk, died Monday morning, Aug. 20, 2001, at Keokuk Area Hospital. Arrangements are pending at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk.

Ramona Holmes

Ramona Sue "Mona" Holmes, 42, of Strong–hurst, Ill., died at 12:14 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at her home.

Born March 7, 1962, in Rush–ville, Ill., she was the daughter of Robert and Eva Eddington Pollock. On Nov. 11, 2000, she married Dean Holmes in Denmark.

Mrs. Holmes was a registered respiratory therapist at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

She was a 1980 graduate of Carthage High School. She was a member of Pheasants Forever, American Quarter Horse Association and was an active halter horse shower. She was an avid animal lover, naturalist and wildlife enthusiast.

Survivors include her husband; her parents of Kirkwood, Ill.; one sister, Roberta Klingler of Carthage; three nephews and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Holmes will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at King–Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in rural Fort Madison.

A memorial has been established.
