Edward Munzenmaier

Edward William Munzenmaier passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Brookdale Ramsey Village in Des Moines. He was born icon May 28, 1929 in the Highland Park area of Des Moines. His father was Edward Young Munzenmaier and his mother was Pauline Adrea Woolm Munzenmaier. He attended school in the Highland Park area graduating from North High School in 1947. In high school, he was active in basketball and track. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also active in DeMolay and continued on into the Masonary as a member of the Auburn Union Park Lodge 592.

He continued his education at Grand View College and then began a lifelong career in architectural drafting. He worked for many local, notable architectural firms including, Savage & VerPloeg, Lindgren & Taylor, Payne, Champion & Bernabe, Wetherell- Ericsson, and Frevert-Ramsey-Kobes. Later in his career, he also did a great deal of free-lance work.

When he was a young man, in the youth fellowship of Highland Park Christian Church, he met the true love of his life, Donna Colleen Klisares. Ed and Donna were married icon in 1952. Ed loved his service to his church at both Highland Park Christian Church and then later, at Glen Echo Christian Church.

He enjoyed playing bridge with Donna and their life-long friends. He loved collecting coins, model trains, model cars, and memorabilia. He was proud to have lived for many years in the house that he and his father built on Oak Park Avenue. He was an active Alumnus of North High School and, in addition, an active resident of Highland Park.

He was the proud father of three daughters, Lynn R. Blakesley (Blake) of Newtown, PA, Leigh Ann Walters (Craig) of Ankeny, IA, and Rebecca L. Cartwright (Peter) of Johnston, IA.

Ed is survived by his loving sister, Marilyn Grother (Bill) of Eldridge, IA; his daughters; his grandchildren, Joshua Blakesley (Maria), Elisabeth Ballstadt (Travis), Jedidiah Schmidt (Kim), Benjamin Blakesley (Lauryn), Matthew Walters, Casey Hooper, and Spencer Cartwright; great-grandchildren, Isabell Robinson, Wilco Ballstadt, Emma Schmidt, Ava Schmidt, and Caroline Blakesley, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife, Donna.

The family wishes to thank both the Iowa Hospice and the staff at Ramsey Village for their loving care. Ed was always greatly admired by friends and family for his honest, hardworking, and loving personality, as well as his many accomplishments in spite of a severe hearing impairment.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will be held 3-7 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2008 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Glen Echo Christian Church, North High Alumni Association, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Hazel Yockey

Hazel has gone home to be with her Lord surrounded by loved ones at Taylor House Hospice on January 9, 2008. Born May 15, 1910 in Hopkinton, IA to William J. and Lena H (Thies) Kurth; Hazel spent her childhood on their River Valley farm, and later in Coggan, IA where she worked for the telephone company.

In 1936 she graduated from the Paris Academy of Beauty in Cedar Rapids, IA. She worked as a beautician in Shellsburg and Ryan, IA; Sioux Falls, SD, and Sioux City, IA until retiring in 1984.

On October 14, 1948 she married icon the love of her life, Ralph Yockey in Fort Dodge, IA. They first resided in Smithland, IA and in 1951 moved to Sioux City, IA before moving to Pleasant Hill with her family.

She was devoted to her family and many others who called her Mom and Grandma. She loved music, especially playing the organ; and was an excellent seamstress and crafter as well as creating many beautiful crocheted pieces.

Hazel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Ali Zarghami (Pleasant Hill, IA); grandsons Audel (Windsor Heights, IA), Bijhan (Pleasant Hill), and Davod (Burnsville, MN); grandson of the heart Jafar Azmayesh (Chicago, IL); and sister-in-law Mary Kurth (San Mateo, CA).

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Walter (Marie) and Elmer Kurth; and sister Etta (John) Saathoff.

After cremation, a memorial service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church (3857 E 42nd St., Des Moines) at 11 AM on Friday, January 11th. Family will receive visitors at the church at 10 AM prior to the service.

Memorials may be directed to Iowa Library for the Blind, Hope Lutheran Home Care Ministry, or Taylor House Hospice.

Betty J. Noon

Betty J. Noon, 86, was born icon Elizabeth Jane Johnson, died January 9, 2008 at Riverside Manor Care Center. She was born icon November 9, 1921 at her parents homestead in Colorado.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, January 11, 2008 at the funeral home.

Betty was a proud mother of nine children. She will be greatly missed by Charolette Kaster of Cedar Rapids, Larry (Alice)Noon of Grimes, James (Chris) Noon of Ankeny, JoAnne (Francis) Enbusk of Des Moines, Carol (Joe) Harter of Apache Junction, AZ, Richard Noon of Marion, Patty Mitchell of Ames, Fred Noon of Des Moines and Dorothy (Marc) Gergen of MI. She also leaves 28 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, many nieces and nephews and many friends.

She is a retired City of Des Moines employee. Betty enjoyed singing, playing the piano and organ. Most of all, as matriarch of the family, they considered her the smartest woman ever and their hero. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Duyen Baccam

Duyen Baccam, 79, died at home January 10, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N.W. 60th Ave.

Duyen was born icon October 4, 1928 in Tai Dam Country. He worked as a kitchen aide at Iowa Methodist until his retirement in 1990, where he was known as “Papason” to his co-workers. Duyen was a people person and loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed working on cars, listening to traditional folk music, reading and story telling.

Duyen is survived by his wife, Nguyen Bacthi; sister, Eng Bacthi; brother, Yen Baccam; sons, Do Baccam and Khue (Soulichanh) Baccam; daughters, Toui (Eignai) Xaycosy, Inkham (Khamphon) Dara, Inngeun (Khamsene) Soulinthavong and Vanhpheng “Te” Lo; and nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathan, Mickey, Regina, Reanna, Nicholas, Cody, Cindy and David. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thuong Baccam.

Janis Catron

Janis Catron, 72, lost her courageous battle with cancer at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on Thursday, January 10, 2008 surrounded by the loving presence of her children.

Janis grew up in Des Moines and attended North and Tech High Schools. In 1958, she married icon Larry Joseph Catron. Together they lovingly raised four wonderful children, (Randy, John, Greg, and Paulette).

Janis had a great love for gardening and also enjoyed shopping, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite vacation destination was Santa Fe, New Mexico, which spurred her love for Native American art and jewelry. She also had a special talent for interior decorating and her ideas about design were often sought by her family and friends. Janis was also a dog lover and had a special affection for Yorkies.

Janis will always be remembered by her family and friends for her intelligence, kindness, and wit. She was affectionately named, “Little Mama,” “Mammacita,” “Mamma Bear,” and “Nana” by her family.

Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew S. and Pauline (Horner) Regis, and her husband, Larry. She is survived by her four children, sons, Randy (Terri), John, Greg (Rhonda), and daughter, Paulette (Doug); four grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Cristina, and Kelsey, and two brothers, Andy Jr. of New York and Dick of Minnesota.

The family will receive friends at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, from 4-7 PM Sunday, January 13, 2008. Private funeral services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Animal Rescue League or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Ronald Taylor

Ron Taylor, 56, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, January 10, 2008. Per his request, his body has been cremated and no services are planned.

Ron was born icon August 25, 1951 in Des Moines. He was an over the road truck driver for many years and enjoyed fishing, boating and trains.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Victoria Randolph-Taylor; sons, Kyle (Michelle) Taylor, Sr. and Dustin Taylor and grandson, Kyle Taylor, Jr. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Taylor.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Ron.

Alice Marie Prigge

Alice M. Prigge, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, January 11, 2008, of cancer.

Alice was born icon May 20, 1917 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, daughter of George and Florence Carlson. She married icon Eugene Prigge on May 22, 1944, in Cedar Falls. He died August 7, 1992.

Alice was proud to have served as a Navy Yeoman from 1942 to 1945. She worked for 40 years doing secretarial work in three different states, typing many doctoral dissertations. She was a member of the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo.

Survivors include two daughters, Marlys Jean (Edwin D.) Craun of Fairfield, VA and Marylouise Prigge of Des Moines; two granddaughters, Margaret Craun of Baltimore, MD and Elizabeth Craun of New Haven, CT. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Private interment will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Marshalltown. A memorial service will be Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel, 7511 University Avenue. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorials may be directed to Home Connections at the Lutheran Home.

Wayne Brom

Wayne L. Brom, 69, died Friday, January 11, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Wayne was an avid Chicago Bears, NY Yankee and NASCAR Fan. He enjoyed his family and church couples group SHENS very much. Wayne was employed for over 25 years by EMCO Industries, and a member of Cornerstone Community Church (formerly Central Gospel Chapel) in Johnston.

Wayne is survived by his wife Ruth, of 46 years; son, Steve (Vicki) of Des Moines; and daughter, Connie Woodward of Ankeny; grandchildren, Bryce and Jocelyn Woodward, Michael Brom, Stephen, Anthony and Jeffrey Anderson; 9 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Gardiner; sisters-in-law, Judy Gardiner and Reenie Gardiner; nephews, Michael and Troy Gardiner; nieces, Christine Livingston and Jill Burgess and his sport watching buddies, Kevin Schuttler and Randy Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Hilda Brom.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Willowbrook Bible Camp, 4375 NE 38th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50317.

Kada Mrkonjic

Kada Mrkonjic died Friday, January 11, 2008 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Services will be 2 PM Saturday, January 12th at Glendale Cemetery. Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

John H McFadden, Sr

John H. McFadden, Sr., 84, died Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.

John is survived by his children, Lorraine Riseley of Des Moines, John McFadden, Jr. of Marshalltown, Priscilla Bognanno of Moline, IL, Sarah Smart of Altoona, Mary Pohren of Runnells, Harold McFadden of Ankeny, Daniel McFadden of Midlothian, VA, Kerry Gilson of Anchorage, AK and Michaela York of Damascotta, ME; 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive and sister, Jane.
