Joe Woosley

Joe Woosley, 50, died at his home Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at Rising Sun Church of Christ with burial at RisingSun Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Joe was born icon May 30, 1957. He married icon his high school sweetheart, Tina “Weezie”, January 10, 1976. Joe owned and operated Joe’s Tire Company. He was very active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Make a Wish Foundation. He loved being with his family and dog, Emma, drag racing and having coffee with his buddies at his shop every morning.

Joe is survived by his wife of 32 years, Tina “Weezie”; daughters, Heather Woosley of Pleasant Hill and Stephanie (William Kirchner) Woosley of Altoona: his parents, Earl and Helen Germaine of Wixom, MI; brother, Scott (Lisa) Woosley of Galena, KS; sisters, Stephanie (Steve) Patton of Noblesville, IN, Beth (Gerry) McCauley of Commerce Township, MI and Nancy (Jim) Trick of Brighton, MI; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ward Woosley; his aunt, Toots; his grandparents; and his sister, Karen Filipek. Joe will be dearly missed and remembered for his wisdom and big heart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Make a Wish Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hamilton’s Funeral Home.

John Leedy

John Charles “Bean” Leedy, 20, of Des Moines died at his home on Sunday, February 10, 2008. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with cremation following the service. The family will greet friends from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. John was employed at Holm Graphic Services and enjoyed cars, camping, hunting and the Green Bay Packers. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his mom Judy Leedy, his brother Matt (Shelly) Williams and their children Zerek, Kaelyn and Quintin, his grandmother Doris Tuttle as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father John Craig Leedy, his grandmother Marge Bateman and his grandfather Charles Tuttle.

Rick Rynning

Fredrick James Rynning, 55, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, February 6, 2008. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Meredith Drive Reformed Church with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Rick was born icon February 25, 1952 in Des Moines, the son of Harold and Laura (Gilbert) Rynning. Throughout his career he was a teacher and coach for the Seymour School District, I-35 School District, and most recently Johnston School District, in which he retired from in 2007. Rick enjoyed all sports, but had a true passion for golfing. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his granddaughters.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Ellen Rynning of Johnston; daughters, Kim (Darin) Casey of Des Moines and Amanda Rynning of Johnston; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emma Casey, and one grandchild on the way; brother, Harley Rynning of Des Moines; sisters, Dene (Ernie) Trulson of Washington, Gwen (Galen) Kurth of Tennessee and Judy (Wes) Winterbottom of Des Moines and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Tolbert; his brother, Larry Gilbert and his parents.

The family will greet friends from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 at Meredith Drive Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a scholarship fund for graduating seniors from Johnston High School pursuing a career in the field of education. Hamilton’s Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Keith Luce

Keith Luce, 56, died at his home Wednesday, February 6, 2008. A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway.

Keith was born icon July 15, 1951 in Des Moines to Keith and Annabelle Luce. He was raised by his father, Keith and stepmother, Marilyn. Keith served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a master electrician and owned and operated Phoenix Electric until his retirement in 1994. After retirement he attended DMACC and Drake University. Keith loved the Iowa State Fair and was a volunteer for many years. He was a craftsman, enjoyed playing online poker and went to the movies every Friday afternoon.

Keith is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sandra Knox; his children, Brian (Ashley) Luce and their sons, Kollin and Houston, Cynthia (James) McLaughlin and their daughter, Rachel, Kimberly (Jed) Schmidt and their daughters, Emma and Ava, and Todd (Stacey) Ryan and their children, Bryce, Brenden and Brandy; step-daughter, Tiffani (Bill) Knapp and their children, Cody, Taylor and Connor, and his sisters, Pam Ryan, Kim Brandt, Kelly Cockerham and Debbie Seene. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Adam Luce; and niece, Brandy Ryan.

Papa Luce will be deeply missed by his family, especially his grandchildren whom he loved and adored.

Gabriel Andrew Meyer

Gabriel Andrew Meyer, son of Patrick and Jennifer Meyer was born icon into heaven February 9, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. A Memorial service will be held 2:30pm Sunday at Oakwood United Methodist Church, Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

Besides his Mommy and Daddy, Gabe is survived by his brother, Caleb, his grandparents, Bob and Sue Curry and Dave and Mary Meyer, his great grandparents and aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers Gabe’s family would like toys to be donated a charity of your choice.

Hamilton’s Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Alf Oswald

Alf Oswald, 79, passed away February 10, 2008 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 10:00am funeral service on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Iowa. Burial to follow at the Clear Lake Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Alf, the youngest child of Martha and Sigvart Oswald, was born icon May 4, 1928 on a farm in Elmore, Minnesota. The family moved to rural Ventura, Iowa where Alf attended school before enrolling at Waldorf College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1951 serving 8 years, 4 of which were in communications.

Alf married icon Donna Peterson on June 7, 1958 and made their home in Clear Lake and Mason City before moving to Ankeny in 2000. Alf worked for 23 years at Allied Mills Feed.

Alf is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Donna; daughter, Dr. Kim Oswald and her husband, Jason Douglas of Ankeny; sisters, Jennie Baker and Inga Nordaas; sister-in-law, June Oswald; and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Swen in WWII and Gordon; brothers-in-law, Chad Baker and Swen Nordaas.

Alf leaves precious memories as a loving father and a devoted friend who loved and served his Lord. His compassion and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa or the Iowa Heart Foundation in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Arlene Petithory

Arlene Petithory, 92, died Sunday, February 10, 2008. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Clemons Cemetery in Clemons, IA. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.

Arlene was born icon December 29, 1915 in Des Moines. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Arlene worked in the produce department for Linn’s Supervalu for 22 years.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Jackie Lou Petithory; three sons, Dennis Petithory, Richard (Sue) Petithory and William (Julie)Petithory; brother, Robert Clark; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; son, Chuck; grand daughter, Sara Petithory; and great grand daughter, Brooklin Shea Petithory.

Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House or Kavanagh House on 56th St.

Helen Wilson

Helen Therese (Lorig) O’Brien passed from this life on February 13, 2008 at the age of 77 years, two months and 22 days. She had been residing in Des Moines at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Andrew, for nearly 10 years, following the onset of a long term illness known as Picks disease.

Helen was born icon in Emmetsburg, Iowa on November 22, 1930, to Fred Lorig and Mildred Ferguson. She enjoyed life immensely. Helen loved to dance, laugh and play cards with friends and family. She was employed by Brenton Bank for much of her adult life.

Helen is survived by her children, Daniel (LuAnn) O’Brien, Therese Elsbecker, Joan (Andrew Lietzow) O’Brien, James O’Brien and Michael (Gayle) O’Brien; sister, Lois (Hugh) Neary; grandchildren, Joe, Jason, Janell, Jeff, Katie, Andy, Lisa, Hannah, Drew, Becca, Connor, Carter, Brady and Kasey; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 33 years, Wm. Dean O’Brien; sister, Mary Kliegl; and her son-in-law, Paul Elsbecker.

A wake will be held from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2008 at Joyce’s Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church/School in Emmetsburg, Hospice of Central Iowa or The Association for Frontotemporal Dementias.

Hamilton’s Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Rosemary Andreano

Rosemary Andreano, 73, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Madison County Hospital in Winterset. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Per Rosemary’s wishes no visitation will be held.

Rosemary was born icon November 6, 1934. She was a Des Moines resident all of her life. Rosemary was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking. She was the director of Polk County Senior Centers, South Des Moines & Carpenter. Rosemary was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed crocheting, making blankets for family and friends and dancing.

Rosemary is survived by her brother, Samuel (Sue Lyons) Andreano, sisters, Charlene (Leo) Day and Theresa (Richard Matlock, Sr.) Andreano; 19 nieces & nephews and 40 great-nieces & great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Frances (Fazio) Andreano; step-mother, Theresa Andreano; and her brother, Anthony P. Andreano.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church.

Gladys Knight

Gladys L. Knight, born icon in Des Moines on February 25, 1920 to Charles and Ruth Bennum, passed away March 13, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at IOOF Cemetery in Indianola. Visitation will be 5-7PM on Monday, March 17.

Gladys formally retired as an executive secretary from Massey Ferguson Co. Inc. in 1977, however her passion for sewing and knitting kept her busy up until her passing.

Gladys was a member of The Pleasant Hill Free Church for many years. She was very active in the church’s quilting club, providing quilts to many charities. Her hobby and passion for sewing allowed her to own her own part time business, Interiors by Knight, putting custom made drapes in many Des Moines area homes. She loved spending time outdoors, caring for her garden and many flowers. Gladys enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchild.

Gladys is survived by her son, Jack (Cyndi) Morton of Clive; grandsons, Steven (Rhonda) Morton of Urbandale and Shannon Morton of Des Moines and beloved great granddaughter, Sydney; sisters, Mary Hayes and Ruby Ford, both of Des Moines and Regina Sneed of Nebraska She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Bennum; husband, Charles Knight; and her borther, William “Bill” Bennum.

She was always willing to help others and will be missed by many.

Bruna Bianchi

We are celebrating Bruna’s long and happy life of 92 years. Family was everything to her. We hold her in our hearts. God holds her in His keeping. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The family will greet friends from 5-8 P.M. Thursday evening at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with a 7:00 P.M. Vigil service. Bruna graduated from Lincoln High School and worked many years as a beautician. She was a life long member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and active in many organizations. Family left to cherish her memory include her daughters Judy (Chuck) Jennisch and Diane (Gene) Stephany, her sister Zora (B.C.) Mahon, her grandchildren Lauri (Warren) Sprouse, Scott (Nan) Jennisch, Ted (Alli) Stephany and Mark Stephany; her great grandchildren Maddie and Amelia as well as her many nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dominic and her siblings Mary and Lyle. Memorials may be made to her family to establish a scholarship at St. Anthony’s School.

Mary Catrone

Mary L. Cotrone, 94, of Des Moines died on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Kavanagh House on 56th. A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 P. M. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with burial following at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3-7 P.M. Friday evening at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home where there will be a 7:00 P.M. Rosary service.

Mary is survived by her son Lou (Wuanetta) Cotrone, her daughters Jean McLeran, Alice (Lee) Kalwishky, Theresa (Robert) Gregson and Rosalie (Ron) Wood, her son-in-law Bucky Leopold, her sisters Pauline Lucia and Josephine Walker as well as 24 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years Arthur Cotrone, her daughter Lucille Leopold and her brother Joseph Palmer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kavanagh House on 56th Street.

Robert Folsom

Robert D. Folsom, 76, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at his home from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert was born icon October 13, 1931. He graduated from East High School and served in the Navy during the Korean War. Robert owned and operated Bordenaro’s Grocery.

Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; sons, Michael (Vicki) and Richard Folsom; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Norman (Donna) Folsom; sisters, Marquieta (Bill) Eddis and Wilma (Clarence) Vangundy; nieces, Michelle Bouma and Regina Romeo; brother-in-law, Carl (Lillian) Bordenaro; sister-in-law, Madonna Swartz; and many nieces; nephews; and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Sposeto.
