Doris Reynolds

Doris L. Reynolds, 77, of West Des Moines formerly of Mitchellville, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. There will be a visitation held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway. A private burial will follow the visitation.

Doris was born icon in Des Moines on May 30, 1930 to Gustav and Nellie Baumeister. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High School. She retired from Iowa Lutheran Hospital in 1995. Doris was a very loving mother, grandmother and a caring friend; she loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She was a devoted babysitter known as the neighborhood grandma. She also loved gardening and working in the yard.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Karen (John) Schaffer of West Des Moines and Debbie (Jim) Armitage of West Des Moines; sons, Dennis (Pam) of Elkhorn, NE. and Randy (Beth) of Kansas City, MO; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Gus (Margaret Ann) and Chet Baumeister; sisters, Betty Zils and Marian (Lewis) Rehor; and many nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her husband Jack Reynolds and her brother Jim Baumeister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a further donation to an organization for children.

Noah Silas Hill

Noah Silas Hill, infant son of Kimberly Hill passed away March 10, 2008. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Noah is survived by his mommy, Kimberly; brothers, Johnie, Jerry and Jeremy; sister, Jessica; grandparents, Gerald and Cheri Bradford; and his niece, Havanna.

Wilma Overton

Wilma I. Overton, 73, died Friday, March 14, 2008 at Mitchell Village Care Center. The body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Juanita Johnson

Juanita “JJ” Johnson, 84, of Des Moines died Monday at the Indianola Good Samaritan Home in Indianola. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

JJ was born icon August 19, 1923 in Des Moines. She always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude. JJ had spunk, wit and an ornery side, but she was always a lady. She studied music in Chicago for two years, worked as a real estate agent and a loan originator in the Des Moines area and was a member of the Greater Association of Realtors. Prior to moving to the Good Samaritan Home, she was a resident of Fleur Heights Care Center. JJ enjoyed music, water painting, antiques and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Marc of Calgary, Canada, Scott (Yan) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Brett (Renae) of West Des Moines; her grandchildren, Zachary, Emily, Dustin, Cameron, Kyle and Courtney; two step-grandchildren, Chad and Jason; her great-granddaughter, Victoria; her brother Lester Jenkin of Tonawanda, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her sister Orphia, and her parents Elizabeth and Walter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of Hope in loving memory of JJ.

Marilyn Riley

Marilyn Riley, 85, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Fleur Heights Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Marilyn was born icon September 13, 1922 in Lucas, IA to John and Mary Ann Wild. She lived most of her life in the Des Moines area. Marilyn graduated from East High in 1941. She was a homemaker and a gifted painter.

Marilyn is survived by her sister, Mildred Castings; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David “Fred” Riley and her daughter, Mary Ann Herbig.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Des Moines Art Center or the East High Alumni Association.

Arthur Ferguson

Arthur Ferguson, 88, died Friday, March 14, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Arthur was born icon October 15, 1919 to John and Margaret Ferguson in Des Moines. He was a member of the Des Moines Police Department, retiring as a Captain after 26 years of service. Arthur was a member of the Iowa State Police Association, Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police, Disabled American Veterans, Home Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Sheriffs and Deputies Association and a five year veteran of the U.S. Army.

Arthur is survived by his son, Robert C. (Cherelyn); three grandchildren, Angela (David), Scott (Shawna) and Kelly (Ty); great grandchildren, Paul, Dean, Jake, Emily and Erika; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel and four brothers. Also, a special thank you to Susie Mahana, his angel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Children’s Hospital.

David Tucker

David Tucker, 58, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Taylor House Hospice. He was born icon March 31, 1949.

David is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; two daughters, Shelly (Jonathan) Schulte and Tracy (Jeff) Drury; son, Ryan Roberts; and daughter, Lindsay Johnson; and his eight grandchildren: Frankie, Lily, Eddie, Jon-Jon, Tucker, Jones, Ryan and Cierra.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines. Family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of David.

The family of David Tucker, would like to thank the Taylor House Hospice for making a longtime dream of his come true, on March 8, 2008 at 11 a.m., David and Sandra became husband and wife, surrounded by family and friends.

Clair Christensen

Clair Christensen, 81, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at his home. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th in Des Moines. Burial will be in Jefferson Cemetery in Madison County.

Clair was born icon March 13, 1927 to Chris and Waunita Christensen in Earlham, Iowa. He lived most of his life in Berwick. January 15, 1950, he married icon his love, Barbara Jean Brown. After retiring from SuperValu Warehouse and as a brother Teamster in 1984, he and Barbara moved to Phoenix before finally settling back in the Des Moines area.

Clair is survived by his nine children: Louise (Creely) Woods, Clair, Jr. (Sue), & Randy (Linda), Denise Grove, Bruce (Olivia), Marty (Linda), Scott (Debby), & Kevin (Deb) and Angel Jensen; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Wilbur, & Ivan Christensen, and Helen McKnight. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his children, Rebecca Lynn and Bartley Craig.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

Clair Christensen

Clair Christensen, 81, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at his home. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th in Des Moines. Burial will be in Jefferson Cemetery in Madison County.

Jesse Cortez

Jessie Cortez, 86, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Broadlawns Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Jessie was born icon December 1, 1921 to Santiago and Severa Negrete in Dexter, Iowa. She was a member of Basilica of St. John and worked as a housekeeper for Methodist Hospital and St. Joseph’s Academy.

Jessie is survived by her children, Richard (Maria) Cortez, Roberta Vallejo, Jesse (Marjorie) Cortez, Mary (Henry) Gonzales, and Linda Cortez, all of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; numerous great and great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Catalina) Negrete of West Des Moines and Alex Negrete of Roland; sister, Lupe Rangel of San Antonio, TX; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her children, Henry Cortez and Ascension Fulbright; first husband, James Cortez; and second husband, Paul Cortez.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Lawrence Harwood

Lawrence T. Harwood, passed away at Parkridge Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill on April 8, 2008 at the age of 94 years old.

Graveside services only will be held on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Powers-Warren Cemetery in Runnells, Iowa.

Survivors include his daughter, Connie (Doug) Vaughn; sons, Larry (Joyce) Harwood and Gregory (Jacque) Harwood; step-sons, Duane (Colleen) Goode and Donald (Barbara) Goode; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Dorothy Warren and Dorothea Newland; and his grandson, Lawrence T. Harwood; four sisters and three brothers.

Hamilton’s Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Edna Carpenter

Edna Alberta Carpenter, 91 of Hickory and formerly of Iowa died April 9, 2008 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born July 25, 1916 in Polk City, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Landon and Genevieve Crabtree White.

Mrs. Carpenter moved to Hickory, N.C. in 1995. She was a retired bookkeeper of SMB Stage Lines of Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Hickory, NC; the East Gate Chapter No. 538 Order of the Eastern Star, the Mt. Olivet White Shrine, Order of the White Shrines of Jerusalem, Harmony Court No. 5 Order of Amaranthas, and the Sweet Brier Rebekah Lodge No.188, all of Des Moines, Iowa.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Carpenter, and three brothers: Earl White, Robert White, and Charles White.

Survivors include a daughter Norine Huitt and husband Kenneth of Hickory; grandchildren, Kevin Huitt and wife Susan of Morganton, N.C., Kyla Huitt of Topeka, Kansas; great grandchildren: Kenneth Huitt of Spokane, Washington, Perri Huitt of Morganton, N.C.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Memorial Gardens, Des Moines, Iowa.
