Arlene Ruth Jones

Arlene Ruth Jones, 64, passed away, Thursday, April 10, 2008. Arlene was the daughter of Harold and Evelyn Jones, and was born icon in Des Moines, Iowa on July 10, 1943.

Arlene lived most of her life in the Des Moines area. She worked for Broadlawns Medical Center before her retirement in 2005. She enjoyed spending time at the Urbandale Senior Center. She also found so much pleasure in volunteering her time at Boesen’s, in the spring assembling daffodils and answering the phone for different events. The most important part of Arlene’s life were her precious children and grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by her two children: Joseph Jones (Kelly) and Sheryl (Steve) Lawrence; six grandchildren, Heather, Zackery, Ashley, Allie, Joshua and Jordan; sister, Linda (Dave) Chongo; step-brother, Robert Woods and her step-mother, Bertha Jones. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Evelyn Jones.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 at the funeral home.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Arlene.

Betty Gullord

Betty Gullord, age 77, entered into eternal rest on April 11, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA. She died from lung cancer after a very brief illness.

Betty Jeanne Willford was born icon on September 30, 1930 in Plymouth, Iowa. As a young adult, she was a law secretary in Manly, Iowa. She was also a champion roller-skater. On November 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Stanley Gullord. They had four children and moved to Des Moines in 1966. While her children were growing, she was very involved with them in the PTA, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. In 1968, she began a 33 year career as an income tax preparer. She was self-employed until she retired in 2001. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing bingo and other forms of gaming, and the Friendship Club. In retirement, she became very active with her church family at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. No matter what was going on, she always found time to watch or listen to the Chicago Cubs games. They lost a great fan who always thought that “This was the year”. Betty always enjoyed making people happy and her smile and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 56 years, Stanley; her daughter, Deb (Tom) Ostrem; her sons, Steve (Susan) and Greg (Roxy); her grandchildren, Jaime (Fernando), Sarah, Chrissy, Jenny, Brett, Matt, and Shelley; cousins; nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandi, who was waiting for her arrival in heaven.

Visitation will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3820 SW 9th St, Des Moines, on Tuesday, April 15 from 3 PM to 7 PM. The funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 2:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or Hospice of Central Iowa-Kavanagh House on 56th Street.

Dennis Flannery

Denny Flannery passed away April 8th, 2008 at the Taylor Hospice House after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Denny was born icon on June 17, 1952 in Bondurant, IA to Bud and Elaine Flannery. He proudly served in the United States Air Force before moving to Des Moines. He was a loyal employee of Meredith for the last 26 years. Denny enjoyed spending time outside whether it was mowing, watering flowers or playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Toni; daughter Jenny (Gabe) Cain; daughter Kelly Babberl; son Todd (Gwendy) Babberl; grandchildren Anna and Anthony; brother Mike Flannery; sisters Kathleen Wright, Mary Grass, Ann Bassett; father in law Americo Loffredo and a large, loving extended family.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 11th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12th at Christ the King Church with burial at Glendale Cemetery.

The family is extremely grateful to the care-givers at the Taylor Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in memory of Denny to the Taylor Hospice House.

Donald Webb

Donald Edward Webb, 88, died at home Wednesday, April 9, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Highland Park Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Donald was born icon August 15, 1919 in Des Moines. He was a 1939 graduate of North High School. On January 1, 1942 he married icon Phyllis I. Thomas.

Donald served in the Army during WWII. He worked for Pittsburg Des Moines Steel Company for 43 years before his retirement in 1984. Donald was a member of Iron Workers Shopmen’s Local No. 493, Auburn-Union Park Masonic Lodge and Highland Park Christian Church.

Donald is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis; sons, David L. (Patsie) Webb and Kenneth L. (Denise) Webb; grandchildren, Michael S. Webb, Patricia D. McIntyre, A. Parker Webb and Logan Marie Webb; five great-grandchildren; sister, Viola M. Jones; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, David W. Ross; and his brother, Ralph G. Webb.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park Christian Church.

Hamilton’s Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Michael Wayne Kenoyer

Michael W. Kenoyer, 51 of Rippey died Thursday at home. A visitation will be held 11-1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. Cremation will follow the visitation.

Michael was born icon December 26, 1956 in Des Moines. He enjoyed playing pool and fishing; and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Michael is survived by his children, Phillip, Patrick, Michael, and Michelle; his father, Robert (Marlene) Kenoyer Jr.; his step-father Grant Harter Jr. and his wife Judy; his siblings, Bob, Peggy, Larry (Peggy) Kenoyer, Onah (Joe) Leahy, and Sandy Arnett. He was preceded in death by his wife Annie, and his mother, Marna.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Michael.

Wanda Hill

Wanda Jane (Dilley) Hill was born icon in Webster City, May 5, 1937 and went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2008, at the age of 70.

Jane was born icon to Calva and Laurence Dilley of Webster City. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1955. Jane was married icon to Marion (Muggs) Hill on December 22, 1956 and moved to Des Moines, Iowa.

Jane is survived by daughter, Debra (Chuck) Cook of Prairie City, Iowa; granddaughter, Kimberly (Damian) Leone of San Diego, California; grandson, Matthew (Carolina) Dowell of Fresno, California; great grandson, Marion (Muggs) Leone of San Diego, California; brother, Dale (Caroline) Dilley of Stanhope, Iowa; brother, Jerry Dilley of Ellsworth, Iowa; brother, Dean Dilley of Stratford, Iowa; her companion, Mike Rose and many nieces and nephews.

Jane is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Marion (Muggs) Hill; her parents, Calva and Laurence Dilley; her in-laws, Mary and Kendall Hill; her sister in-laws, Carol Dilley and Jan Dilley.

She loved her family, home, cooking, baking and people. Her favorite place to be was home or working in her yard. She loved people to visit, her flowers, fishing, pets and babies.

One would say she was never idle, “Busy” should have been her middle name, nor did a stranger she meet. All will remember Jane and miss her, whether you are family, friend or a acquaintance.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Margaret Keith

Margaret Keith, 44, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 13, 2008. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday April 18, 2008 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Margaret was born icon May 1, 1963 to Clarence and Jean Keith. She was a child care worker and enjoyed old movies.

Margaret is survived by her mother, Jean (Chuck) Venn; sisters, Terry (Mike) Polk, Diana (Robert) Carr, Ronda (Russell Ryan) Venn, Lora (Carla) Keith, and Kelly (Nicole) Larpenter; brothers, Rick (Becky) Venn, Joe (Julie) Venn, and Pat Venn; many nieces; nephews; great nieces; and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Keith.

A private burial of cremated remains will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Elsie Wheeler

Elsie Wheeler, 85 passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:30pm Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8pm Tuesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Entombment will follow at the Masonic Mausoleum.

Elsie was born icon September 11, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. She retired from the Des Moines Register as an advertising account executive. Elsie was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, the Lady of the Snows, and St Jude.

She celebrated 25 years of total retirement with her husband, Elsie enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

Elsie is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence, her sons, Dorn P. and Niel P. Brankis, her step-children, Christine Wheeler-Wion and Brian Wheeler; her five grandchildren and her three great grandchildren, her brother, Thomas Senkerik.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.

Phillip Benge

Phil Benge died Thursday, April 10th 2008 at Kavanagh House on 56th st. Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday, April 16th 2008 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Phil worked for EFCO for many years and enjoyed golfing, traveling, mowing and feeding deer at his log cabin at Lake Panorama, where he was known to many as “Goober”. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his 3 grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; mother, Fern; Son, Jeff (Robin) Benge; daughter, Jennifer (Hector) Gomez; Grandsons, Cody and Brandan Gomez, Kyler Benge; He was preceded in death by his father, Richard “Flip” Benge.

The family would like to thank Dr. Philip J. Colletier and Dr. Magdy M. Elsawy and their staff for their kindness and compassion they gave Phil and his family.

Jerri Kutchen-DeVries

Jerri Marie Kutchen-DeVries left this life on April 13th 2008 at her home in Des Moines. A visitation will be from 2-4 PM Saturday, April 19th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home.

Jerri was born icon August 20, 1960 to Gerald and Edith Kutchen in Des Moines. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines living on the southside for many years. She worked as an attorney for the State of Iowa in the revenue and finance department. She loved swimming, picnics and going to the lake, but most of all spending time with her kids and her animals.

She is survived by her kids, Quin and Baylie; mother, Edie Mendenhall – Kutchen; her former husband and friend, Dave DeVries; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins and a dear friend for many years, Toni along with many other close friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jer who died on April 7th 2008. The family is comforted by knowing that Jer and Jerri Marie are together taking care of one another and watching over the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ the King Playground Fund.
