Lorene Nelson

Lorene Nelson, 90 died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Mill Pond Retirement Center. Lorene was born icon on September 13, 1917 in Des Moines to William and Ebba Ostberg.

Lorene graduated from East High School and went on to attend AIB. She was a member of Capitol Hill Lutheran Church and Alethians Women’s Church Group. Lorene worked as a bookkeeper at Donald Corporation for 25 years until her retirement in 1978. Lorene enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family.

She is survived by daughter, Terry (David) Swanson; son, Dennis (Sue) Nelson; four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert B. Nelson and her parents.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines; burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends will visit with family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the funeral home

Memorial contributions may be made to Mill Pond Retirement Center in loving memory of Lorene.

Shirley Leo

Shirley Leo, 76, died August 24, 2008 at Taylor Hospice House. A graveside service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens at a later date.

Robert Hall

Robert W. “Bob” Hall, 83, a lifelong resident of Des Moines, died Monday, August 25, 2008 at Altoona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Robert was born icon on November 15, 1924 to Clayton and Lillie Hall.

Bob was a World War II Marine Veteran and a recipient of four Purple Hearts. He retired from AMF Western International where he worked for more than 40 years. Bob was a long time member of Rising Sun Church of Christ. Bob enjoyed working in his yard and gardening and was a former member of the Men’s Garden Club. He enjoyed spending time and sharing jokes and stories with his family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Donald Hall (Cheryl) of Johnston; grandsons, Robb Hall (Diana) of Altoona and Bryan Hall (Kristy) of Des Moines; granddaughter, Katie Weyer (Mark) of Johnston, sister, Caroline Gabrielson (Gary) of Lexington, MA; great grandchildren, Taylor, Brandon and Brooke Hall of Altoona, Carson Waters and Drake Hall of Des Moines, and Spencer and Aiden Weyer of Johnston; and many other family members and beloved friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise; daughter, Diane Wilkins; sister, Louise Patterson; brother, Richard Hall and his parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2008 at Rising Sun Church of Christ, 6390 NE Rising Sun Drive, Pleasant Hill; burial will follow at Rising Sun Cemetery. Family will visit with friends from 6-8p.m. on Thursday, August 28 at Rising Sun Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for the Robert W. Hall memorial fund.

The family would like to thank the staff of Altoona Nursing and the staff of Hospice of Central Iowa for the loving care Bob received.

Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens will be handling arrangements.

Robert Long

Robert D. Long, 77, died Monday, August 25, 2008 at home. Robert was born icon March 10, 1931 in Des Moines. He spent much of his childhood in Oxford Junction, Iowa, where he still has extended family.

Robert attended North High School. Following graduation, Robert joined the US Marine Corp where he served in the Korean War. After discharge, he attended AIB. He then went on to become a supervisor at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company where he retired after 30+ years of service. He was an avid reader and a military history buff. He especially enjoyed camping, hunting and going to Prairie Meadows.

He is survived by daughters, Linda Long, Janis Long, Jody Jones and Barbara Long; grandchildren, Mindy Myers, Megan Jones and Harley Crusan and three great grandchildren, McKenzie, Alexis and Mikalah.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Long and Gladys Leslie and his step father, Henry Leslie.

Funeral services will be11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.; burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will visit with friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the funeral home.

Frank Bode

Frank Bode, 74, died Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Schaller Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Frank was born icon September 17, 1933 in Schaller, Iowa to Paul and Anna Bode. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as an arborist. Frank loved music, he could play any instrument and never had a lesson. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Toby, fishing and going to garage sales. Frank was a member of the Professional Music Association of Iowa and Grace Church.

Frank is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Wayne (Anna) Bode and Paul Myers; step-children, Enda Schultz, Joanie Brown and James Wilson, Jr.; brothers, Herb (Maxine) Bode, Reinhold (Marian) Bode and Ray (Leota) Bode; 11 grand children and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael and daughter, Brenda.

Robert Ponx

Robert Dean Ponx, 56, died at his home Friday, August 22, 2008. His body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Allison Kelley

Lane and Allison Kelley, infant twin son and daughter of Candace and Chad Kelley, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Private services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway with burial to follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

In addition to their parents, Lane and Allison are survived by their grandparents, Doug and Michelle Meyer of Nebraska and Joleen and Jim Robinson of Storm Lake; great-grandfathers, Bill Brannon and Robert Meyer; great-grandmothers, Verna Schumann and Velda Robinson; many aunts, uncles, cousins and other loving relatives. They were preceded in death by their great-grandmothers, Shirley Meyer and Wanda McGuire, and their great-grandfathers, Leonard Schumann and Floyd Robinson.

Earl Morgan Jr.

Earl L. Morgan, Jr., 48, died at his home Monday, August 25, 2008. Per his wishes, his body has been cremated and no services are planned.

Earl was born icon August 12, 1960 in Des Moines and was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. He was an avid Tony Stewart fan and a great cook, his family especially loved his chili. He enjoyed watching TV Land, but his greatest passion in life was his love for his grandchildren.

Earl is survived by his sons, Cory (Jessica) Strahl and Jason (Natalie Schooley) Strahl; grandchildren, Morgan, Caylie, Colton and Damian; brothers, Larry and Tommy; sisters, Terry and Cindy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Strahl

Helen Snyder

Helen Snyder, 69, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday.

Helen was born icon July 1, 1939 to Dorothy and Harold Blanchard. She was a member of Kingsway Cathedral and Norwoodville Community Center where she wrote the recipe bulletin in the Community Center’s paper. She loved fishing, hunting, arts and crafts, sewing, and baking. Her greatest love was spending time with her husband of 49 years, Durward, and her family. She was especially proud of her four great grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Durward; her children: Joseph, Michael, and Susan Snyder, and Doris (William) Cox; her grandchildren: Brandon, Lisa (Dionel), and Rosa; her great grandchildren: Kendra, Marco, Isabella, and Misael; her brother Joe (Sarah) Marley; her dog who was like a child, Bandit; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Jim.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Helen.

Eleanor Dingeman

Eleanor Ruth Dingeman, 71, of Des Moines, passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center on August 20, 2008. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Family and friends are invited to a reception following the services at the Park Fleur Condos.

Eleanor was a life long resident of Des Moines. She married icon Donald Dingeman on July 9, 1954. They enjoyed 54 years together. She was employed at Younkers as a bookkeeper for 25years. Most recently she was the bookkeeper for the Park Fleur Condos. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her four grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Dingemen; son, Steven (Jana) Dingeman; daughter, Julie (Craig) Davis; four grandchildren, Janina Dingeman, Craig Davis, Adam Dingeman and Matthew Davis.

Michael Hewitt

Michael J. Hewitt, 58, of Des Moines passed away on August 13, 2008 at his home in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2008 at Grant Park Christian Church, E. 25th and Capitol, at 10:00 A.M. Michael had worked at Principal, Windsor Windows and the Ankeny Wal-Mart. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed bowling, was a long time member of P.W.P., former volunteer at the Red Cross and a member of the Grace Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Rex and Esther Hewitt and is survived by his sons Avery W. (Shari) Hewitt of Paton, Iowa and Curtis L. Hewitt of Des Moines; the mother of his children Retha Hewitt; his siblings Cindy (Dave) Logsdon, Greg (Marcia) Hewitt and Donna (David) Molacek as well as many extended family. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Friends and family are invited to an open house Thursday from 6-8:00 P.M. at 8122 Goodman Drive in Urbandale.

Michael Vincent

Michael Edward Vincent, 60, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospital. Memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Private burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Mike was born icon October 5, 1947 in Centerville, Iowa and moved to Des Moines when he was about 10 years old. He graduated from North High School. Mike enjoyed time spent with his family and had a strong passion for NASCAR Racing, especially cheering on one of his favorites, Karl Edwards.

Mike is survived by his mother, Marge Vincent of Des Moines; brothers, Joseph Lee (Carol) Vincent of Des Moines and James David “JD” Vincent of Chicago; nephews, Kenneth (Lacy) Thompson, Jacob Vincent and Aaron Vincent; and great-nephew, Gunnar Thompson. He was preceded in death by his father, Pearl Edward Vincent.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Bobby Lee Poe

Bobby Lee Poe, 70, died on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Per his request, his body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Roy M. English

Roy M. English, 69, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Roy was born icon October 26, 1938 in Shannondale, Indiana. He was a Navy veteran. Roy retired as a repair technician from Pepsi.

Roy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bea; daughters, Peggy (Jeff) Funaro, Kim Irving and Tanya (Jeff) Stark; granddaughters, Tiffani, Kaileigh, Alisha and Ashleigh Funaro; grandsons, Nathan and Tyler Irving and Luke Stark; great grandson, Brylan Irving; three sisters and a brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to Easton Place United Methodist Church.
