Muhamed M. Salama was born icon on February 14, 1948 in Zanzibar, Tanzania, the son of Majid and Mariam Abbad Salama. On December 26, 1989, Muhamed was united in marriage to Patricia Derr in Burlington, IA.
He moved to Keokuk in 1994. He was a business entrepreneur.
Muhamed was a member of the Keokuk Rotary Club and the Big Brother & Sister Program in Keokuk. He was a professional windsurfer, a corporate executive and enjoyed personal investing. He loved the pastries from Stan's Bakery in Keokuk.
Muhamed M. Salama died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital in Carthage, IL at the age of 54.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Salama of Keokuk, IA, two daughters, Laila Salama of Chicago, IL and Alia Salama of New York City, NY, two step-sons, Bill Atterberg and his wife Melina of Marshalltown, IA and Michael Bryant of Keokuk, IA, his father, Majid Salama of Saudia Arabia, sisters, Naila of Zanzibar, Hanim, and Amira of Kuwait, Dharifa of Colorado, Majda and Abeer of Saudi Arabia and Widad of California, brothers, Mustafa, Sharaf, and Ahmed all of Saudi Arabia and four step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services were held at 2 P.M., Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Burial was in the Charleston Cemetery in Charleston, Iowa.
A memorial has been established for the Memorial Hospital in Carthage, IL.

Sharon Evermon
1942 - 2004

City of Death: Iowa City,, Iowa

Sharon R. Evermon, 62, of Farmington, IA formerly of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
She was born icon January 27, 1942 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Orris C. and Lelia May Mardis McKay. She married icon William James Benedict, Sr. on September 7, 1952 in Keokuk, IA.
She had been employed at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Phoenix, AZ for seventeen years. She returned to the area in 2000 and was then employed at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Keosauqua, IA.
She loved to go fishing and enjoyed spending time at the American Legion in Farmington, watching Nascar Races and football games. She was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. She was a loving mother and grandmother and treasured the times she spent with her family.
Sharon is survived by three sons, William James Benedict, Jr. of Burlington, IA, Steven C. Benedict and his wife Debra of Maywood, MO, and Benjamin T. Benedict and his wife Naomi of Chicago, IL, six daughters, Brenda Jean Osbon and her husband Ronald of Kahoka, MO, Crystal Lucille Burchett of Farmington, IL, Jessica Kingcade and her husband Leroy of Aline, OK, Mary McCracken of Bonaparte, IA, Kellie Cossman and her husband Mike of Enid, OK and Karen Benedict of Keokuk, IA, twenty-two grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three sisters, Shirley Jean Lillard and Linda Curtis, both of Keokuk, IA, and Sheila 'Kathy' Kaplan of Cedar Rapids, IA, two brothers, Bill McKay of Cedar Rapids, IA and Vernon 'Butch' McKay of Morganfield, KY, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Kevin Dean Benedict, one daughter, Susan Nadine Benedict, and two brothers, Bob McKay and Orris F. 'Bud' McKay.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established for the family and memorials may be mailed to Vigen Memorial Home, 1328 Concert Street, Keokuk, IA 52632.

Lawrence Korschgen
1928 - 2004
City of Birth: Kahoka, Missouri
City of Death: Keokuk, Iowa

Lawrence 'Henry' Korschgen, 76, of Kahoka, MO died Sunday, March 14, 2004 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA.
He was born icon September 6, 1927, in Kahoka, MO, the son of A.L. 'Bud' and Agnes Dea (Danker) Korschgen. He married icon Pat O'Malley Trone on November 15, 1968, in Quincy, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Kevin Korschgen of Chicago, IL, Steve Korschgen and his wife Helen of Jacksonville, IL, one step son, Eddie Trone and his wife Peni of Warsaw, IL and three step daughters, Vickie Gutting and her husband Wayne of Kahoka, MO, Debra Sonier of Fort Wayne, IN and Kathy Hyde and her husband Steve of Fairfield, IA, three grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter in infancy.
Henry was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church. He had farmed near Antioch for several years. He and his wife Pat had owned and operated Kahoka Lanes until retirement in 1980. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
Graveside services were held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the Kahoka Cemetery with Father Roland Carbone officiating.
There was no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials were made to the Clark County Nursing Home Activity Fund.

Wanna Whalen
1923 - 2005
City of Birth: Derrahs, Missouri
City of Death: Keokuk, Iowa

Born on September 24, 1923, in Lewis County, MO, Wanna was the daughter of Harold 'Buzz' and Beatrice Lillard Spurgeon. On December 12, 1943, Wanna was united in marriage to Billy Roy Whalen in Keokuk, IA.
Wanna graduated from the Monticello High School in Monticello, MO with the Class of 1941. She had been employed at Drydens and Sheller Globe in Keokuk, IA for 25 years, retiring in 1985.
Wanna loved to watch basketball and baseball games and was an avid Cubs fan. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and watching the weather.
Wanna A. Whalen died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Keokuk Area Hospital at the age of 81.
She is survived by her husband Billy Roy of Keokuk, IA, one son, Billy Rene Whalen and his wife Carole of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Arlene Cannon and her husband Rod of Revere, MO, one brother, Norman Spurgeon and his wife Darlene of Monticello, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Harold Whalen and one brother, Harold 'Pedro' Spurgeon.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 1, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Dr. David Castrodale officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.

Helen Tucker
1921 - 2005
City of Birth: Charlevoix, Michigan
City of Death: Keokuk, Iowa

Helen Tucker, 83, of Alexandria, MO, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA.
She was born icon June 26, 1921 in Charlevoix, Michigan, a daughter of Mike and Anna Swoboda Seganek. Helen was united in marriage to Chester Tucker on March 18, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1970.
Helen was a member of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church. She had worked at Drydens, currently Metzeler Automotive, for 10-12 years. She then owned and operated Tucker Motel and Fireworks Stand in Alexandria for more than 40 years. She enjoyed crocheting and working outside gardening and tending to her flowers.
She is survived by one son, John Tucker of Alexandria, MO, one granddaughter, Helen Hayes and her fiancé Steve Shipman of Dallas City, IL, two grandsons, Vernon Tucker and John Tucker, Jr., both of Kahoka, MO, great grandchildren, Christina Yates and her fiancé Mikele Farmer of Kahoka, Michelle Tucker of Wyaconda, MO, Heather Tucker of Kahoka, MO, Adam Tucker of Wyaconda, MO, Randy Yates and his fiancée Ashley Brumbaugh of Kahoka, MO and Austin Ball of Dallas City, IL, one sister-in-law, Viola Seganek, many nieces, nephews and caring friends, including John Cunningham of West Olive, MI.
She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and a very special friend, John Buschling.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Dr. David Castrodale officiating. Burial was in the Day Cemetery, Winchester, MO.
Visitation was held after 12:00 pm Monday with the family meeting with friends from 6-8 at the funeral home.
Memorials were made to the donor's choice.

Louise McMahan
1918 - 2005

Louise Irene McMahan, 86, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at her home.
Born on July 20, 1918 in Keokuk, IA, Louise was the daughter of Charles E. and Clara Flick Collins. On September 27, 1941, Louise was united in marriage to Robert Knox McMahan. He preceded her in death on December 11, 1999.
Louise graduated from Keokuk High School. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk.
She is survived by one son, Steve McMahan and his wife Jeanne of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Cathy Ludwig and her husband Greg of Keokuk, IA, four grandchildren, Eric R. Ludwig, Jamie L. Ludwig, Amanda J. McMahan and Ashley M. McMahan, one sister, Arvilla Martin of Keokuk, IA, one brother, Charles Collins of Keokuk, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian M. Stahl, and Hazel Grogan, one brother, Sylvanus (Beany) Collins and one son, Lt. Commander Robert C. McMahan whose jet was shot down during the Vietnam conflict on February 14, 1968. His remains were returned in December of 1990.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 5 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Paul L. Beisel officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw, IL.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Friday with the family meeting with friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church or the Lee County Hospice.

Winnie Thompson
1923 - 2005
City of Birth: Ft. Madison, Iowa
City of Death: Bellevue, Nebraska

Winnie Decatur Thompson was born icon on January 31, 1923 in Ft. Madison, IA, the son of Winslow Chesterfield and Mabel Ilene Clark Thompson. On November 28, 1947, Winnie was united in marriage to Delores Louise Carlton in Keokuk, IA.
Winnie was employed as a union painter at Alton, IL and later was employed as a union pipefitter out of UA Local #57 in Salt Lake City, UT, retiring in 1984 after many years of service. After retirement he moved to Agenda, KS.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bellevue and attended the Assembly of God Church
Winnie enjoyed playing the games of poker and pinochle, going to yard sales, fishing and traveling to visit his family. He liked to work on cars and was an excellent mechanic. Winnie loved to tell stories and could keep friends and families entertained for hours.
Winnie D. Thompson, 82, of Bellevue, Nebraska, formerly of Keokuk, IA, died Monday, February 14, 2005 at his daughter's home in Bellevue.
He is survived by ten children, Carol 'Mike' McGriffen of Agenda, KS, Sharon Maynard of Pass Christian, MS, John 'Tom' Winslow Thompson and his wife Nancy of Clarksville, TN, Patricia 'Trish' Stutte and her husband Dick of Bellevue, NE, Pam McCormick and her significant other, Dave Martin of Bellevue, NE, David Thompson and his wife Bonnie of Granite City, IL, Bill Thompson of Springville, UT, Dan Thompson and his wife Pat of Springville, UT, Faye Zach of Castledale, UT, and Winnie Thompson and his wife Lisa of Lehi, UT, forty-two grandchildren, seventy nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Mildred Burgess of Keokuk, IA, numerous special nieces & nephews, a special friend, Dorothy Sturm, and his best friend, Grumpy, his dog.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, on June 13, 1998, three grandchildren, Robin & Lori Thompson and Roger W. Thompson, three sisters, Ruby Daughters, Eudora Lawson and Marie Stark.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 18 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with the family meeting with friends from 6 - 8 p.m.
