Gert E. Blaise-Choate

Gert E. Blaise-Choate, 74, of Keokuk, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at 2:52 p.m. at her home.
She was born
to Lawrence and Lyda Bennett Hedrick on Dec. 21, 1929, in Keokuk.
She had been a lifelong resident of Keokuk.
Mrs. Blaise-Choate operated the Star Cleaners until 1973 and then worked at St. Louis Dye Casting, retiring in 1983.
She married
Paul Blaise in September of 1950. He preceded her in death in 1986. She then married
James Choate. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Mrs. Blaise-Choate was a member of the First Christian Church of Keokuk.
She was an avid bowler and in 1994 was inducted into the Keokuk Womens' Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She held many different offices in the association during her many years of bowling.
Survivors include: two daughters, Paula Stepp and her husband, Chuck, of Keokuk and Karen Huston and her husband, Fred, of Fort Madison; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Greave's Mortuary, Keokuk, with Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. Friday at the mortuary until the time of services.
Memorials may be made to the donors choice.
Sharon R. Evermon
Jan. 27, 1942 - Jan. 28, 2004
FARMINGTON - Sharon R. Evermon, 62, of Farmington, formerly of Keokuk, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
She was born
Jan. 27, 1942, in Keokuk, the daughter of Orris C. and Lelia May Mardis McKay. She married
William James Benedict Sr. on Sept. 7, 1952, in Keokuk.
She had been employed at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz., for 17 years.
She returned to the area in 2000 and was then employed at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Keosauqua.
She loved to go fishing and enjoyed spending time at the American Legion in Farmington, watching NASCAR races and football games. She was an avid Jeff Gordon fan.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and treasured the times she spent with her family.
Survivors include: three sons, William James Benedict Jr. of Burlington, Steven C. Benedict and his wife, Debra, of Maywood, Mo., and Benjamin T. Benedict and his wife, Naomi, of Chicago; six daughters, Brenda Jean Osbon and her husband, Ronald, of Kahoka, Mo., Crystal Lucille Burchett of Farmington, Ill., Jessica Kingcade and her husband, Leroy, of Aline, Okla., Mary McCracken of Bonaparte, Kellie Cossman and her husband, Mike, of Enid, Okla., and Karen Benedict of Keokuk; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Jean Lillard and Linda Curtis, both of Keokuk, and Sheila "Kathy" Kaplan of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Bill McKay of Cedar Rapids and Vernon "Butch" McKay of Morganfield, Ky.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Kevin Dean Benedict; a daughter, Susan Nadine Benedict; and two brothers, Bob McKay and Orris F. "Bud" McKay.
Services will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established for the family and may be mailed to Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk.
Arthur Phillip Robinson
July 3, 1922 - Feb. 2, 2004
Arthur Phillip Robinson, 81, of Keokuk, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at 8:23 a.m. at Keokuk Area Hospital.
He was born
to Arthur Phillip and Forrest Auglar Robinson on July 3, 1922, in Keokuk.
He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk.
Mr. Robinson served in the United States Army during World War II.
He also worked at Keokuk Gas Company and R. L. Patton Construction.
He was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
Mr. Robinson was a member of the American Legion Post #41 of Keokuk.
Survivors include: a brother, Ronald Robinson of Minnesota; a sister, Alcena Dawson of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leland, LaFaun and Charles; and a sister, Marjorie Shaninghouse.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greave's Mortuary, Keokuk, with the Rev. J.T. Brown officiating.
Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery with full military honors.
Friends may call the mortuary from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
Alice Hortense Chamberlin Wirsig
July 9, 1917 - Feb. 17, 2004
BATON ROUGE, La. - Alice Hortense Chamberlin Wirsig, 86, formerly of Keokuk, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Toon McDaniel in Baton Rouge, La.
She was born
in Cooper County, Mo., on July 9, 1917, to Homer and Alice Chamberlin. She was married
to Arthur E. Wirsig Jr. on July 16, 1954.
She was a wonderful mother who loved her family, a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and raising a vegetable garden.
Mrs. Wirsig was an active member of the Keokuk congregation of Jehovah's Witness for 40 years and recently of the LaBelle Air congregation in Baton Rouge.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 20, 2002; her sisters, Bernice Esser and Jeanette Hickam; and a grandson, Matthew W. McDaniel.
Survivors include: a sister, Doris Howell of Boonville, Mo.; a brother, Leslie Chamberlin of Pilot Grove, Mo.; three daughters, Molly Walker of Conover, N.C., Melissa Wirsig of Decatur, Ga., and Marsha Wirsig of St. Louis; three sons, Bob McDaniel of Baton Rouge, Steve McDaniel of Bethlehem, Pa., and Tom McDaniel of Columbus, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Richelle Teague, Kelly and Sean McDonald, Steve, Tom, Robin and Allison McDaniel, Miriam Thompson, Ryan and Kathryn Hester and Adrienne Wirsig; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial services was held at the LaBelle Aire Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Baton Rouge on Feb. 18.
Her ashes will be transported to Embury Methodist Church Cemetery in Lee County, at a later date for a private memorial service.

Beverly A. 'Bev' Brown
May 9, 1940 - March 9, 2004
Beverly A. "Bev" Brown, 63, of Keokuk died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born
May 9, 1940, in Keokuk, the daughter of H.H. "Bud" and Jane Craig Brown.
Ms. Brown's interests were varied. She enjoyed singing, spectator sports and working in community projects such as City of Christmas, Civil War Reenactment festivities and Red Cross.
She was a member of the Keokuk Area Group Home board, Friends of the Keokuk Animal Shelter and loved animals.
Ms. Brown also delivered meals to shut-ins and took patients to chemotherapy and radiation treatments as a volunteer for Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Keokuk, where she worked on many committees of the church, was a member of the choir and was interested in the Keokuk Catholic Education System.
Ms. Brown graduated from Keokuk High School and worked various office positions before embarking on a learning trip to Seattle, Salt Lake City and Boston.
She was a graduate of Des Moines Practical Nursing. She then was employed by St. Joseph Hospital and Keokuk Area Hospital until she retired.
Survivors include: two brothers, her twin, Richard Brown and his wife Vicki of Clarksville, Va., and Craig Brown and his wife Mary of Green Valley, Ariz.; a niece, Beverly Baker of North Quincy, Mass.; and four nephews, Richard Brown of North Easton, Mass., Craig Brown of Denver, Colo., Chris Brown of Quincy, Ill., and Ryan Brown of Clarksville.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Connolly officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at Greave's Mortuary, Keokuk, with family meeting friends from 6 to 9 p.m. A Christian Vigil Service is at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Area Group Home or All Saints Catholic Church.
Lois L. Vogel
March 20, 1945 - March 13, 2004
Lois L. Vogel, 58, of Keokuk, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at 9 p.m., at her home.
She was born
to John D. and Margaret M. Fisher Boyle on March 20, 1945, in Keokuk.
She lived in the area most of her life.
She married
Dwight V. Vogel on Dec. 10, 1989, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton, Ill.
Mrs. Vogel was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
She belonged to a M.S. support group.
Survivors include: a brother, John D. Boyle and his wife, Janet, of Keokuk; four sisters, Joan Wise and her husband, Bud, of California, Rita Hagmeier and her husband, Dave, of Keokuk, Kathleen Gray and her husband, John, of Decatur, Ill., and Dianne Powell and her husband, John, of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Patrick and Timothy and two sisters, Marjorie and Geraldine.
There will be a Christian vigil service at Greave's Mortuary today at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Connolly officiating.
Burial will be in the Middle Catholic section of Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation is today at the mortuary, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Catholic Schools.
Isaac Edward 'Pops' Tate Jr.
April 12, 1941 - March 17, 2004
Isaac Edward "Pops" Tate Jr., 62, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his residence in Keokuk.
He was born
on April 12, 1941, in Lewis County, Mo. He was the son of Isaac and Liza Mariata Dade Tate Sr.
He had lived in Davenport for 40 years and had been employed as a welder. He had lived in Keokuk for the last two years.
Mr. Tate served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and bingo.
Survivors include: eight children, Barbara Ann Hatfield of Keokuk, Ray Anthony Tate of Alexandria, Mo., Emma Marie Tate, Valerie Elaine Tate, Isaac Junior Tate, Wallace O. Tate Crouch, Vanessa Tate and Anthony Isaac Tate; a sister, Katherine M. Hodges, of Canton, Mo.; five grandchildren, Colby Tate, Jordan Tate, Tyler Hatfield, Erika Hatfield and Layke Hatfield; and nieces, nephews, and friends of the family including Ellen Tate of Keokuk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wilbur and Isaac's twin Julian; and two sisters, Mary Lou and Doris Marie.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at DeJongs Funeral Home in Keokuk, with Rev. Sylvia Tillman officiating.
Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery with full military rites.
Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. with the family meeting friends during that time.
