Norman Blanford

Norman Blanford, 61, of 1412 Timea Street, died at 3:40 A.M. Monday, June 24, 2002, at Montebello Health Care Center in Hamilton, Illinois.

Norman Blanford was born icon on July 25, 1940 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the son of Joseph Norman and Pauline Ann Harris Blanford. He married icon Jolene Perry on September 24, 1988 at the Elks Club in Keokuk. She survives. He was employed at Stone Container for thirty years in production. He was a member of Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #106 and the American Legion Post # 41. He had served in the United States Navy. He played golf and other sports, and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the L.A. Dodgers.

Survivors include his wife, Jolene Blanford of Keokuk, Iowa; one daughter, Stacey Blanford and her companion, Mike Shinn of Keokuk; one son, Steve Blanford and his wife, Tamara, of Keokuk; two grandchildren, Stefanie Blanford and Dylan Blanford; four step-grandchildren, Eric Shearer, Michael John Shinn, Alexandria Shinn, and Tia Harrison; four brothers, Bobby Joe Blanford and his wife, Wanda, of Louisville, Kentucky, Keith Dennis Blanford and his wife, Linda, of Louisville, Kentucky, Larry Charles Blanford and his wife, Vickie, of Montrose, Iowa and Barry Allen Blanford and his wife, Angie, of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Jean Whitely in December, 1999 and JoAnn Blanford in September, 1956.

Services were Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Vic Coston officiating. Burial with full military rites was in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice.

Juanita Bonser

Juanita N. Bonser, 81, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Monday, December 16, 2002 at her home in Keokuk.

Juanita Bonser was born icon on April 9, 1921 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She was the daughter of James O. and Leola Pearl Hite Miller. She married icon Virgil Bonser on November 18, 1939 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1999. She had been employed at Shaffer Pen in Mt. Pleasant. She moved to Keokuk in 1959 and had been employed in production at Shellor Globe for 27-1/2 years. She had been a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Mt. Pleasant and attended the Bel Aire Baptist Church. She loved crocheting, gardening, and flowers. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include five children, Shirley Dietrich and her husband, Dan, of Keokuk, Iowa, Charlotte Clark and her husband, Tony, of Keokuk, Iowa, JoAnn Scanlan of Keokuk, Iowa, Dwayne Bonser and his wife, Connie, of Keokuk, Iowa, and Don Bonser and his wife, Gail, of Keokuk, Iowa; three sisters, Virginia Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Marion Courtney of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and LaVaughn Krotz and her husband, Delbert, of Washington, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Bonser of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Wayne Bonser and her wife, Charlene, of Oceanside, California; and one sister-in-law, Gertrude Bonser of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Michelle Marie Bonser; and a son-in-law, Jerry Scanlan.

Services were Friday, December 20, 2002 at the DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend William Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Television Station WTJR.

Irvin Boyer

Irvin A. Boyer, 86, of Warsaw, Illinois, died Monday, June 24, 2002 at 7:58 P.M. at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa.

Irvin Boyer was born icon on October 2, 1915 in Farmington, Iowa. He was the son of Adam Emery and Lillian Rupp Boyer. He married icon Elsie Phillips on January 3, 1959 in Davenport, Iowa. She survives. He lived in the Keokuk area for most of his life until twenty-four years ago when he moved to Warsaw, Illinois. He served in the United States Army during World War II. As a young man, he was a member of the Citizen Military Training Camp and spent one month every summer at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. He was self-employed as an antique dealer and loved antiques, especially clocks and pocket watches. He was a member of the Warsaw VFW Post #09802 and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Boyer of Warsaw, Illinois; a son, Reggie Boyer and his wife, Sherri, of Alpine, California; two daughters, Sharon Kraus of Warsaw, Illinois and Janet Edlen of Hamilton, Illinois; five grandchildren, Derrick, Dustin, and Emily Anne Kraus of Warsaw, Illinois and Jessica and Joseph Edlen of Hamilton, Illinois; three step-grandchildren, Todd, Troy, and Kelly Rodvold; three step great-grandchildren; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Patricia J. George; one half-sister; one half-brother; and his foster mother, Nannie Smith, who raised him during his junior and senior high school years.

Services were Friday, June 28, 2002 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Terry Lovell officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw, Illinois with full military rites.

Memorials may be made to the Warsaw Ambulance Fund, the Crossview Community Youth Center, or to the donor's choice.

Michael Boyle

Michael Lee Boyle, 18, of Keokuk, died at 4:00 PM Sunday, September 1, 2002 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born icon August 8, 1984 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Steven Lee Allsup and Gina Boyle. He had lived most of his life in Keokuk but had lived in Ohio for a time, returning to Keokuk in June 2001. While in Ohio he had worked at Taylor Creek Lumber. He was a former member of FHA in Ohio and played basketball, football and participated in track. He loved to ride his bicycle.

He is survived by his mother, Gina Boyle of Keokuk; a brother, Keith Boyle of Keokuk; two sisters, Stephanie and Breanna Boyle of Keokuk; maternal grandmother, Sandra O'Shea and her husband, Andrew, of Keokuk; paternal grandmother, Shirley Allsup of Keokuk; paternal grandfather, Walter Allsup of Ohio; two great-grandmothers, Ida Stamper and Marie Hall of Keokuk; special friend, Melissa Pratt of Fairfield, Iowa; maternal uncles, Nick O'Shea and Pat O'Shea of Keokuk; maternal aunt, Michelle Allsup of Ohio; paternal uncles, Jeff Allsup of Ohio and Kenny Allsup and his wife, Dara, of Ohio; paternal aunts, Marie Allsup, Lori Hood and Julie Wrieden of Keokuk; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Allsup; maternal grandfather, Timothy Boyle; niece, Danielle Wrieden; and an uncle.

Funeral services were held September 5, 2002, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Pastor Sylvia Tillman officiating. Burial was in Scandinavian Cemetery in rural Keokuk.

A memorial has been established in his name.

Joseph "John" Bradford

Joseph 'John' Bradford, 62, of Keokuk, died Sunday afternoon, December 8, 2002, at his home.

John Bradford was born icon on August 5, 1940 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Joseph Howard and Elizabeth 'Lil' Fraizer Bradford. He married icon Scottie Kay Seeland on December 17, 1960 in Quincy, Illinois. She survives. He had lived in Keokuk since 1966, moving here from Quincy, Illinois. He was the owner/operator of General Rental in Keokuk. He was previously owner/operator of Irwin-Phillips Wholesale Discount Store in Keokuk with his wife and parents. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church; KAABA Shrine of Davenport, Iowa; Jesters Club of the Shrine; Quincy Masonic Lodge; Keokuk Fez Club; Keokuk Chiefs Patrol; and Keokuk Elks Lodge #106. He was a past board member of the Keokuk Yacht Club and a former member of the Keokuk Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Scottie of Keokuk; two sons, Brad Bradford and wife, Johnna and Todd Bradford and fiancé, Melissa Bullerd, all of Keokuk; two grandsons, Michael Bradford and Cody Filz; a sister, Barbara Kenworthy and husband, William, of West Des Moines, Iowa; a nephew, Grant Kenworthy of Florida; a niece, Valerie Kenworthy of West Des Moines, Iowa; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Kelly Kenworthy.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 12, 2002 at DeJong'’s Funeral Home in Keokuk. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois

Darlene Brooks

Darlene V. Brooks, 82, of Keokuk, died early Sunday, August 4, 2002 at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

She was born icon June 3, 1921 in Keokuk, the daughter of Alphred D. and Mary Josephine Smith Howard. She married icon Lester G. Brooks on May 16, 1942. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1994. She had lived in Keokuk all her life. She had been employed for over 27 years at St.Joseph Hospital and later at Keokuk Area Hospital as a supervisor in the Housekeeping Department, retiring in 1986.

She is survived by one stepson, Ronald Lee Brooks of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one stepdaughter, Patricia Poland of Ferris, Illinois; one sister, Beverly Loewenstein of Keokuk; six step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Pennington officiating. Burial was in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Arlo "Jack" Bughman

Arlo J. '“Jack”' Bughman, 76, of 2720 Decatur Street, Keokuk, died at 6:54 PM Saturday, June 15, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

He was born icon February 10, 1926, in Ferris, Illinois, the son of Herbert L. and Zella M. Caldwell Bughman. He married icon Nancy Yager on June 24, 1956, in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives. He had lived in Keokuk since 1929. He majored in chemistry at Culver-Stockton College. He was employed as chief chemist at Midwest Carbide for 22 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Keokuk and had served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and as a Deacon. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a licensed amateur radio operator and his interests included photography, computers, and radio controlled model airplanes.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Keokuk; a daughter, Jan L. Bughman of Quincy, Illinois; a son, Lee B. Bughman and his wife, Judy, of Moline, Illinois; a grandson, Bradley Bughman of Moline, Illinois; and a sister, Marilyn P. McDonald and her husband, Karold, of Keokuk.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at DeJong'’s Funeral Home in Keokuk with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk following the services.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Keokuk.

Loren W. Camp

Loren W. Camp, 92, of Keokuk, died at 4:05 AM Tuesday, November 05, 2002, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

He was born icon January 20, 1910, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Eli and Rosetta Crum Camp. He married icon Frances B. Larson on December 4, 1937, in Keokuk. She survives.

He graduated from Keokuk Senior High School in 1927 and attended the University of Iowa. He was an accountant at the Hubinger Company for 33 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the National Association of Accountants (Emeritus Life Associate), former Treasurer of the Keokuk Child Day Care Center and former volunteer at Keokuk Area Hospital.

He was a member of United Presbyterian Church of Keokuk where he was Clerk of Sessions, an Elder of the Church, and sang in the choir for over 70 years.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Camp of Keokuk; a son, David Camp and his wife, Patty, of Palos Verde, California; a daughter, Martha Barrows and her husband Jack, of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren and one step grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 7, 2002 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Rev. Brian Rihner officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Church of Keokuk.

Anna V. Cannon

Anna V. Cannon, 83, of Keokuk, died Friday, November 01, 2002 at 8:20 A.M. at the Keokuk Nursing Center in Keokuk, Iowa.

Anna Cannon was born icon on February 26, 1919 in rural Wayland, Missouri. She was the daughter of Lewis and Oda Ferguson Schaaf. She married icon Robert Cannon on January 22, 1951 in Palymra, Missouri. He preceded her on December 6, 1996. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Alexandria, Missouri and was a homemaker.From 1947 to 1950 she worked at both Graham Hospital and St. Joseph Hospitals as a nurse and in the laboratory.

Anna was an avid crocheter and over the last 16 years she had made approximately 4,700 baby hats for Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary O/B Department. In December of 1999 she was made a lifetime member of the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary. She raised chickens, pheasants and hunting dogs. She also liked to do carpenter work, gardening, walking, and reading. For several years she was a volunteer at the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Survivors include a son, Robert Cannon and his wife, Dianna, of Keokuk; a daughter, Anita Hood and her husband, Tom, of Keokuk; three grandchildren, Jason Cannon and his fiancé, Kim Wixom, Rob Hood and his wife, Lori and Justine Lambert and her husband Danny; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Kori, Luke and Kailey Ann; five nieces and nephews, Paul Schaaf of Camanche, Iowa, James Schaaf of Des Moines, Iowa, Judy Becker of Kenniwich, Washington, Jeannie Cole of Montgomery, Alabama and Candy Brown of Williamstown, Missouri; sister-in-law, Imogene Schaaf of Kahoka, Missouri; and her best friend, Neva Deiling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; a niece, Joy Loring; and a nephew, Gale Schaaf.

Services were held Tuesday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, Missouri.

Memorials may be made for the education of her great grandchildren.

Winifred "Marie" Conner

Winifred “'Marie”' Conner, 101, of Keokuk, Iowa died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at 10:50 P.M. at River Hills in Keokuk, Iowa.

Winifred Conner was born icon on May 13, 1901 in Adair County, near Kirksville, Missouri. She was the daughter of Dr. Leonidas J. and Alice May Musson Conner. She graduated from Kirksville High School and from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1925 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She did graduate work in the following schools, the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa; Greeley, Colorado, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, California; Indianapolis, Indiana; Macomb, Illinois; and Kirksville, Missouri. She was a teacher and had taught school at Monroe City, Missouri for four years. She moved to Keokuk in 1930 and taught business at Keokuk Senior High and Keokuk Community College from 1930-1968. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Kirksville and had attended the First Christian Church in Keokuk. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women; was a charter member of Pi Omega Pi; the National, State, and Local Retired Teachers Association; Life Member of I.S.E.A.; Delta Kappa Gamma; a thirty-seven year member of K.E.A.; the Garden Club; and the Christian Church Women's Circle.

She is survived by cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1953; her mother in 1930; and a sister, Eula Blakely in 1961.

Services were Friday, June 14, 2002 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Matthew Hunt officiating. The burial was in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville, Missouri.

Memorials may be made to River Hills Village.

Robert James Corr

Robert James Corr, 80, of Keokuk, died at 6:34 AM Saturday, December 28, 2002, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

He was born icon October 15, 1922 in Lee County, Iowa, the son of William and Sarah Schrepfer Corr. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He lived in Keokuk most of his life and had worked in production at National Carbide and later did construction and yard work. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Lutheran Layman’s League, and American Legion Post #41.

He is survived by a sister, Wilma Dienst of Kahoka, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Ellen Corr of Keokuk; a niece, Mary Koechle of Keokuk; three nephews, Charles Corr, Henry Dienst and Earl Corr; and several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delbert Corr; a brother-in-law, Floyd Dienst; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, 2002, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Rasmussen officiating. Burial with Military Rites was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or Keokuk Nursing Center Activity Fund.

Floyd Cramer

Floyd Cramer, 85, of White Plains Road, rural Argyle, Iowa, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at his home.

He was born icon August 18, 1919 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Tony and Grave Dodsen Cramer. He married icon Verla Beard on November 23, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on September 6, 1995.

He was a lifelong resident of the area and farmed and gardened. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and AARP.

He is survived by a sister, Eula Gibson of Keokuk; a grandson, Steven Cramer and his wife, Billie, stationed in Germany with the US Army; a granddaughter, Gina Cramer and her husband, Tony Houser, of Montrose, Iowa; and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Carol Ann, in infancy; a son, Larry; a grandson; a brother and a sister.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 28, 2002, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Hunt officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Support Services, c/o Keokuk Area Hospital Home Health Care.

Ruth (Sapp) Curfman

Ruth Marie (Sapp) Curfman, 84, of Montrose, Iowa, died at 10:35 PM Friday, November 15, 2002, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born icon April 27, 1918, in Niota, Illinois, the daughter of John A. and Belle Neason Smith. She married icon William Sapp on December 10, 1932, in Memphis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1944. She married icon Ernest D. Curfman on May 18, 1946 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1978. She lived in Keokuk most of her life and in New Boston, Iowa from 1969 until 1995 and in Montrose, Iowa from 1995 until her death.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary for 31 years; Women of the Moose Club, Chapter #584 for 50 years; and the Hermanis Federated Women's Club of Montrose. She actively attended the Montrose Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Crusaders.

She is survived by two sons, William A. Sapp and his wife, Ruth, of Ashland City, Tennessee and Roy M. Sapp and his wife, Alice, of Keokuk; nine grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Eads officiating. Burial was in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Montrose Presbyterian Church or American Cancer Society.
