Cecil M. Eads Johnson

Cecil Marie Eads Johnson, 91, of Keokuk, Iowa died Monday, December 16, 2002 at 5:00 A.M. at her home.

Cecil Johnson was born icon on November 28, 1911 in Montrose, Iowa. She was the daughter of Otto R. and Kathryn Wharton Summers. She was first married icon to Myron Davis. He preceded her in death. She later married icon Howard Eads on July 16, 1955. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1974. She later married icon Floyd Johnson and he preceded her in death. She had lived most of her life in Keokuk. She lived in California for seventeen years and moved back to Keokuk in March, 2001. She was the co-owner of Tri-State Window with her husband Howard Eads for twenty years. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk. She was a member of Elmira Chapter #40,Order of Eastern Star and had served as secretary and was a Past Matron. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile; White Shrine of Jerusalem; and the Soroptomist Club. She was a Past President of the Business and Professional Women of Keokuk and was Woman of the Year in 1970. She served as a former Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls. She was an avid bowler until the age of 85.

Survivors include four children, Richard Davis of Keokuk, Donna Betts and her husband, Louis “Bud” Betts of Keokuk, Myra A. Gates of Des Moines, Iowa and Betty McKinley and her husband, Johnny M. of Pauls Valley, OK; a brother, Hubert Summers, of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Pansy Winkler of Hamilton, Illinois and Dorothy Dawkins of Keokuk; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two brothers, Ray and Earnest Summers; a sister, Virginia Wardlow; and one granddaughter, Lori Betts.

Services were Friday, December 20, 2002 at the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk with Pastor Don Rothweiler officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Lee County Hospice.

Dayle Kavanagh

Dayle Lymon Kavanagh, 87, of 808 Johnson Street Road, Keokuk, died at 4:00 AM Sunday, September 22, 2002 at Great River Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa.

He was born icon June 10, 1915, in Lamoni, Iowa, the son of Terance and Nellie McDonald Kavanagh. He married icon Irma M. Rockenbach on February 1, 1936, in Carthage, Illinois. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1992.

He had served in the United States Navy during World War II. He lived most of his adult life in Keokuk but had lived in Hemet, California from 1979 to 1995. He had been employed as an electrician for Union Electric for 35 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Keokuk American Legion and Hamilton V.F.W. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and traveling.

He is survived by one son, Jack Kavanagh and his wife, Marla, of Keokuk; two granddaughters, Cindy Day and her husband, Greg, of Washington State and Gail Forbis and her husband, Jim, of California; two great grandsons, Joshua and Keith Day; one great granddaughter, Megan Kavanagh; one great great granddaughter, Caitlin Day; a niece, Sally Beaird and her husband, Kenny, of Keokuk; a nephew, Terry Jennings and his wife, Betty; a sister-in-law, Dorotha Kavanagh of Hamilton, Illinois; a step niece, Janet Whitaker and her husband, Kenneth, of Hamilton, Illinois; and two step nephews, Roger Biggs and his wife, Judy, and Gerald Biggs and his wife, Joyce.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at Keokuk National Cemetery with Rev. Fred Lohman officiating. Inurnment was in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Ray Kutcher

Ray E. Kutcher, 83, of 1728 Orleans Avenue, Keokuk, died at 7:00 AM Saturday, August 24, 2002, at his home.

He was born icon August 17, 1919, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Charles and Lura Farr Kutcher. He married icon Alice Marie Skyles on October 24, 1941 in Warsaw, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 6, 1994.

He worked for the Hubinger Company for 35 years, retiring in 1975. He and his wife owned and operated the Keokuk Dairy Queen for 35 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a former member of Grain Miller’s Union Local #48. In his younger years he was an avid bowler. He enjoyed gardening and all sports, especially Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by a son, Roger E. Kutcher of Keokuk; two daughters, Rebecca S. Figge of Keokuk and Jane Peters and her husband, Kent, of Keokuk; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his two faithful dogs, Opie and Jessie.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers; and a grandson, William Kutcher.

Funeral services were Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Pennington officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Keokuk Humane Society.

Edwin L. Lindner

Edwin Laverne Lindner, 58, of Keokuk, Iowa died Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 11:05 A.M. at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa.

Edwin Lindner was born icon on December 14, 1943 in Keokuk. He was the son of Carl Lindner and Ida Means Lindner Reisner. He had lived most of his life in Keokuk and was self-employed as a mechanic. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. He was a collector of antique cars, enjoyed many friends, loved animals, and always lived his life to the fullest.

Survivors include his mother, Ida Reisner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister, Doris Van Alst of Stockport, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Emery Reisner; a brother, Fredric; and grandparents.

A memorial service was held Sunday, October 6, 2002 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Paul Pennington officiating.

The body was cremated.

A memorial has been established.

Rita Sue Mann

Rita Sue Mann, 64, of 916 Concert Street, Keokuk, died at 10:15 PM Sunday, September 15, 2002 at Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born icon August 23, 1938, in Keokuk, the daughter of Joseph and Kathleen Dunn Inman. She married icon James Foreman and later married icon Harold Mann. She was a lifelong Keokuk resident and was employed by Shellor-Globe/BTR/Metzeler. She was a member of United Rubber Workers Local #444 and enjoyed fishing.

She is survived by five children, Ricky Foreman and his wife, Tammy, of Ft. Madison, Iowa, James Foreman and his wife, Kathy, of Snohomish, Washington, Terry Foreman and his wife, Michelle, of Montrose, Iowa, Randy Foreman and his wife, Pam, of Keokuk, and Clarence Mann of Keokuk; fifteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Hugh Gene Inman of Kahoka, Missouri; an uncle, Harvey “Junior” Dunn of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Hugh Schwartz; and her husband, James Foreman.

Funeral services were Thursday, September 19, 2002, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Rev. William Olmstead officiating. Burial was in Sandusky Cemetery north of Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

William F. Mann

William F. “'Pete'” Mann, 74, of Keokuk, Iowa died Thursday, December 5, 2002 at 2:55 P.M. at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa.

Services were Monday, December 9, 2002 at DeJong's Funeral Home with Reverend Keith Percell officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Robert L. Mason

Robert Louis Mason, 95, of Keokuk died Friday, August 23, 2002 at 9:20 A.M. at Keokuk Nursing Center in Keokuk, Iowa.

Robert Mason was born icon on May 31, 1907 in Lewis County, Missouri. He was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Kennady Mason. He married icon Gladys Fuller on August 4, 1928 in Canton, Missouri. She preceded him in death on October 10, 1997. He had lived in Keokuk since 1943. He was employed by Mittleman Construction Company as a carpenter and had traveled across the country during his employment. He was a member of the Keokuk Moose Club and Carpenters Union Local #410 in Ft. Madison, Iowa.

Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Mason and his wife, Margaret, of Keokuk, Iowa and Norman Mason of Keokuk, Iowa; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters; and two brothers.

Graveside services were Monday, August 26, 2002 in the Hickory Grove Cemetery north of Keokuk with Pastor Bob Payne officiating. Burial followed the service.

Dale Miller

Dale F. Miller, 79, of 1724 Timea Street, Keokuk, died at 12:41 AM Thursday, July 04, 2002, at his home.

He was born icon March 7, 1923 in Bowen, Illinois, the son of James A. and Florence Shaw Miller. He married icon June Farnsworth on April 25, 1943 in Palmyra, Missouri. She survives.

He had lived in Keokuk for the last 60 years. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s he was a route salesman for Sunbeam Bakery. In 1968 to 1974 he owned and operated Dale’s Gulf Station. He then was a driver for Pryor Trucking Company for 35 years. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Keokuk and Teamsters Union Local. He enjoyed antique cars but most enjoyed and loved his family and working on his home.

He is survived by his wife, June Miller; a son, Kevin D. Miller of Quincy, Illinois; 6 daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Underwood and her husband, Roger, of Keokuk, Mrs. Joyce Vaughn and her husband, John, of Keokuk, Mrs. Deborah Kohlmorgan and her husband, Tom, of Keokuk, Mrs. Andrea Schwiete and her husband, Randy, of Keokuk, Mrs. Barbara Schlotter and her husband, Mark, of Canton, Missouri and Mrs. Tina Reinoehl and her husband, Steve, of Las Vegas, Nevada; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Russel Miller and his wife, Opal, of Keokuk and Robert E. Miller and his wife, Genevieve, of Keokuk; 4 sisters, Doris Bowden of Keokuk, Ruby Varner and her husband, John, of Keokuk, Opal Miller and her husband, Cliff, of Toledo, Washington and Ethel Turtle and her husband, Howard, of Chehalis, Washington; sister-in-law, Elaine Thompson of Peoria, Arizona; 2 brothers-in-law, Joe Farnsworth of Des Moines, Iowa and Tom Farnsworth and his wife, Dolores, of Keokuk; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 daughters, Cynthia June Frueh on November 8, 1978 and Linda Diane in infancy; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6, 2002, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice.

William E. Mitchell

William E. Mitchell, 48, of 1001 High Street, Keokuk, died at 5:15 AM Friday, July 05, 2002, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

He was born icon April 3, 1954 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Henry Mitchell and Twilla Perkins Mitchell. He married icon Ruth Burkhart on April 4, 1982 in Kahoka, Missouri.

He had lived in Keokuk most of his life and been employed by Morse Rubber, Seabold Odd Animal Farm, and Country Kitchen. He was a member of Family Worship Center in Keokuk.

He is survived by a son, Daniel Mitchell and his fiancé, Stacy Pitman, of Keokuk; two daughters, Debbie McCoy and Rachael Mitchell of Keokuk; a grandson, Brandon Mitchell of Keokuk; his stepfather, Jessie Jefferson of Keokuk; two brothers, Daniel Jefferson and his wife, Dot, of Keokuk and Robert Jefferson and his wife, Mary, of Rochester, Minnesota; four sisters, Linda Meyers and her husband, Lewis, of Kahoka, Missouri, Thelma Jefferson, Carolyn Mendenhall and Patricia Tripp and her husband, Robert, of Keokuk; maternal grandfather, John Perkins and his wife, Ruby, of Keokuk; four aunts, Joy Hayes and her husband, Bill, of Keokuk, Letae Durham of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Marilyn Curtis and her husband, John, of Keokuk and Patty Avise and her husband, Terry, of Hamilton, Illinois; two nephews, Bobby Tripp & Jeremy Jefferson; and five nieces, Crystal Mendenhall, Helen Brouwer, Donna Jefferson, Jo and Candy Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandmother, Erma Perkins; aunt, Sarah Lingren; niece, Twilla Mendenhall; and nephew, Randy Jefferson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hayes officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Rosella Mueller

Rosella A. Mueller, 85, of Cedar Falls, IA, formerly of Keokuk, IA, died Tuesday, August 13 at Sartori Hospital, Cedar Falls of natural causes.

She was born icon September 7, 1916 to John and Clara Damman in Wabash County, Minnesota. She married icon Alfred H. Mueller October 24, 1936 in Mazeppa, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1996. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Keokuk.

She worked at Eakers Department Store in Denver, Colorado. She moved to Keokuk with her family on September 7, 1965. She then worked at J.C. Penney’s and also worked for fifteen years as an Avon representative in Keokuk.

She is survived by three sons, Hal (Judy) of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jim (Debby) of Lynnwood, Washington, Mike (Candy) of Waverly, Iowa, daughter-in-law, Carole (Richard) of Davenport, Iowa and nine grandchildren; Tod Mueller, Jeff Ginther, Cori Mueller Morris, Cassie Mueller Branstrom, Mia and Misti Mueller, Mandy Mueller Mau, Jacob and Mackenzi Mueller; four great grandchildren, five step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Laurinda Schultz and Lu Verle Roschen of Red Wing, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by one son, Richard; one brother, Elton and an infant daughter, Janice, infant grandson, Scott and two infant great granddaughters, Sierra and Annalise.

Funeral services were held at Monday, August 19 at First Lutheran Church in Keokuk, IA with burial in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church of Keokuk or to Comprehensive Systems in honor of her granddaughter, Mackenzi.

Frances Mullikin

Frances E. Mullikin, 88, of Keokuk, died at 4:59 PM Thursday, June 06, 2002, at River Hills of Keokuk.

She was born icon September 1, 1913, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Fredrick and Polly Oerter. She married icon John “Jack” Mullikin on July 11, 1936, in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1998.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flower arranging, and fishing. She made Miss Beasley dolls and sat with people in their homes.

She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Irvine of Quincy, Illinois; two grandchildren, Shawn O’Connor of Chicago Ridge, Illinois and Christian Younggren of Moline, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, William O’Connor and Lindsey O’Connor of Chicago Ridge, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, William “Bill” Mullikin; three sisters and a brother.

A gathering of friends and family was held Saturday, June 15, 2002, in the chapel at River Hills Village in Keokuk. A private inurnment was held in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Rev. Preston Smith officiating.

Memorials may be made to River Hills Village.

William "Cody" Myers

William “Cody” Myers, 16, of Montrose, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 05, 2002.

William “Cody” Myers was born icon on July 3, 1985 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the son of Kyle “Kip” Myers and Kim Gullick Myers. He was a lifelong resident of the Keokuk-Montrose area and would have been a junior at Central Lee High School in the fall of 2002. At Central Lee, he was an honor student and was a member of the Science Club, Band, Chorus & Show Choir, Golf Team, Football, and the Quiz Bowl team. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keokuk.

Survivors include his father, Kyle “Kip” Myers of East Peoria, Illinois; his mother, Kim Myers of Montrose, Iowa; maternal grandparents, William and Shelby Gullick of Keokuk, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Larry and Mary Myers of Kahoka, Missouri; uncles, Michael Gullick of Warsaw, Illinois and Kent Myers and his wife,Tammy of Keokuk, Iowa; aunts, Kathryn Geren and her husband, Mike, of Rainier, Oregon and Kathy Huls and her husband, Eric, of Hamilton, Illinois; cousins, Shelby Marie Geren, Justin, Hilary & Blake Myers, and Samuel & Levi Huls; maternal great-grandmother, Ethel Stinson of Keokuk, Iowa and two paternal great-grandmothers, Lucille Myers of Keokuk and Lois Butler of East Peoria, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents and paternal great-grandfathers.

Services were Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk with Reverend Paul Pennington officiating. Burial was in Sandusky Cemetery north of Keokuk.

Memorial may be made to the Central Lee Science Club.
