Ralph Fletcher

Ralph "Buzz" Robert Fletcher, 85, of Burlington, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born April 26, 1916, in Burlington, he was the son of George and Bertha Heidbreder Fletcher. He married Gertrude Wagler in 1938 in Burlington.
Mr. Fletcher was a 1935 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked as transportation manager for Benner Tea Co. for 30 years. He played pro baseball in 1939 and 1940 with the Rayne, La., Ricebirds (White Sox farm club); for the Davenport (Iowa) Blue Six (Brooklyn Dodgers Farm) in the Western League in 1936 and 1937, and also played with Kilgore Lex in the East Texas League part of the 1936 season.

He was an avid sports fan, a former I Club member and a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Fletcher of Ottumwa and Michael "Mick" Fletcher of West Burlington; two daughters, Joan Foster of Burlington and Nancy Fletcher of Hartford, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Fletcher will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. David Nash officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for his church.

Robert Eagen

Robert "Bob" James Eagen, 74, of Sperry, died at 7:41 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at his home.

Born Oct. 3, 1926, in Adair County, Mo., he was the son of Bernard Michael and Lela Juanita Mitten Eagen.
Mr. Eagen was a 1945 graduate of Brashear (Mo.) High School and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a bread route salesman with the Local Teamsters Central States Union for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. He then worked for Waterworks Car Wash in Burlington.

He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102, Knights of Columbus Council 568, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150, Teamsters Central States Union and Des Moines County Saddle Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed showing horses, boating and playing cards.

Survivors include two sons, Robert "Mike" Eagen of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Jim Eagen of Sperry; two daughters, Wanda Miller of Burlington and Mary King of Olds; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Eagen of West Burlington; two sisters, Carmilita McVay of Kirksville, Mo., and Wilda Moore of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.

His body has been cremated.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. Monday at Hass Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mr. Eagen will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Patrick L. Lumsden officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162 and American Legion Post 52 at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery in Adair, Mo., with the Rev. Bill Kottenstette officiating.

Memorials have been established for Crossroads Hospice of Southeast Iowa and St. Mary's Cemetery Association.

Lucille White

Lucille White, 95, of Burlington died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Prairie Ridge Rehab Center in Mediapolis. Arrangements are pending at Lunning Chapel.

Jerry Tilton

Jerry Tilton, 66, of Stronghurst, Ill., formerly of Lincoln, Neb., died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at his home.

Born May 7, 1938, in Peoria, Ill., he was the son of Lawrence Robert and Agnes Marie Turpin Tilton. On April 19, 1974, he married Phyllis Davis in Burlington.

Mr. Tilton was a supervisor at Lamonte Limited for 13 years, worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and was supervisor of shipping and receiving at Nebraska Boiler for 12 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended the University of Iowa. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 579 of Burlington, Stronghurst Lions Club, Stronghurst Booster Club and Stronghurst Senior Center. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking and shooting pool.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kimberly Tilton of Lincoln, Jennifer Tilton of Utah and Becky Tilton of Colorado; three sons, Bob Tilton of Texas, Jay Tilton of Colorado and Jeff Tilton of Utah; one stepdaughter, Denise Zytnowski of Fort Madison; one stepson, Patrick Hagen of Colorado; 14 grandchildren; one great–grandchild; three brothers, Larry Tilton of Amarillo, Texas, Tom Tilton of Lakeland, Fla., and Shane Bronston of Geneva, Ill.; and two sisters, Janet Selleck of DeWitt and Linda Riley of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Eva Tilton.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. The body has been cremated.

The memorial service for Mr. Tilton will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. George Knox officiating. Moose rites will be performed at 2 p.m.

A memorial has been established for Community Hospices of America.

Roger King

Roger L. King, 21, of Monmouth, Ill., died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Arrangements are pending at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth.

Elaine Roberts

Elaine Roberts, 83, of West Burlington, died at 9:53 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 15, 1917, in Cambria, she was the daughter of Willis N. and Nellie V. Shanks Morrett. She married Lester M. Roberts on Dec. 1, 1935, in Chariton. He died May 28, 1992.
Mrs. Roberts worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for more than 20 years, retiring Oct. 19, 1979.

She was a member of First Christian Church. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed flowers, her dog and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two sons, Gary D. Roberts of West Burlington and Donald G. Roberts of Burlington; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Hass Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Roberts will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, with the Rev. David A. Nash officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association.

James Starman

James E. Starman, 65, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Leavenworth, Kan.

Born April 30, 1934, in Mediapolis, he was the son of Harvey and Martha Starman.
Mr. Starman lived in the Mount Pleasant and Burlington area, before moving to Van Nuys, Calif., in 1964. He moved to Lansing, Kan., after he retired.

Survivors include two sons, Neil Starman of Lansing, and Nick Dingus of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Carla Chimienti of Simi Valley, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; four sisters, Ethel Carlson of Mount Pleasant, Jean Pressley of West Hills, Calif., Edna Pogemiller of Burlington and Carol Burk of Rogers, Ark.; and five brothers, Dennis Starman of Redding, Calif., Kenneth Starman of Des Moines and Dale, David and Robert Starman, all of Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers.

His body has been cremated.

The graveside service for Mr. Starman will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Forest Home Cemetery , with the Rev. Dan Buck officiating.

The family will host a gathering at the log cabin at Saunders Park immediately following the graveside service. Friends and family are invited.

A memorial has been established for Disabled American Veterans.

Forrest Burkhart

Forrest Burkhart, 88, of New London, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at New London Nursing and Rehab Center. Arrangements are pending at Elliott Chapel in New London.

Lucille White

Anna Lucille White, 96, of Burlington died at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center in Mediapolis.

Born Jan. 28, 1909, in Grandview, she was the daughter of Thomas Tarlton and Dora Alice Smice Tharp. On Aug. 23, 1938, she married Paul F. White in Kahoka, Mo. He died Dec. 10, 1995.

Mrs. White worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Winegard, Helen's Dress Shop and Financial Investors.

She attended the Academy and Consolidated schools in Grandview. While at Financial Investors, she received many awards and reached the President's Club. She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed crocheting, making crafts, macramé, sewing and finding shells on the Florida coast.

Survivors include one daughter, Maxine Ellis of Irvine, Calif.; one son, Richard Paul White of Palms, Calif.; and several grandchildren, great–grandchildren, great–great–grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. White will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab.

Ruth Boyer

Ruth E. Boyer, 94, of Donnellson Health Care Center, died at 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at the center.

Born Sept. 17. 1910, in Salem, she was the daughter of James Blaine and Emily Kinney Pickard. On Aug. 11, 1930, she married G. Elmer Boyer in Fort Madison. He died in 1993.

Mrs. Boyer and her husband owned and operated the Boyer Grocery Store in Franklin for many years. She also was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Franklin. Following the sale of the grocery store, she and her husband lived in the Bismark, Ark., area.

Survivors include two sons, Delbert Boyer of Donnellson and Dale Boyer of Carrollton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; several great–grandchildren; two great–great–grandchildren; one sister, Velma Kimbrell of Las Vegas and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one son, one grandson, one great–great–grandchild, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m Wednesday at Hofbauer–Schmitz–Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, with family present from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The funeral service for Mrs. Boyer will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hofbauer–Schmitz–Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Judy Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Embury Cemetery in Donnellson.

A memorial has been established for Donnellson Public Library.

Clarence Bergheger

Clarence W. Bergheger, 84, of 854 Johnson Street Road, Keokuk, died Thursday morning, April 26, 2001, at his home. Arrangements are pending at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk.

Irvin Ridenour

Irvin W. Ridenour, 87, of Mount Pleasant, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Oct. 14, 1913, in Union Township of Davis County, he was the son of Charles H. and N. Faye Darnell Ridenour. He married Irma W. Walker on July 27, 1939, in Ozark, Mo.
Mr. Ridenour attended Troy schools and worked on the family farm. During the Depression, he worked in Civilian Conservation Corps camps to help support the farm. He farmed on his own near Troy for seven years, moving to Pleasant Lawn in Henry County in October 1945. He was a school bus driver for Mount Pleasant Schools for 37 years and was the custodian of Pleasant Lawn School for 45 years. He had a Des Moines Register country delivery route for many years, was custodian of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church for many years. He also detassled and dried seed corn for Cargill Seed Co. of Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Darrell Ridenour of rural Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Sherry Osborne and Sheryl Ridenour, both of Mount Pleasant; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Ridenour of Blairsburg.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mr. Ridenour will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Troy Cemetery in Troy.

A memorial has been established for Henry County Health Center Intensive Care Unit.
