Alberta Hanan

Alberta K. Hanan, 89, of Keokuk, died Thursday, July 03, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

She was born icon September 28, 1913 in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Louis P. and Florence Appleton Lambert. She married icon Everett Hanan on October 20, 1935 in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2001. Before she married icon she was employed by KKK Medicine and later worked at the Keokuk J.C. Penney Store. She and her husband had owned and operated Hanan’s Grocery. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by a son, James Hanan and his wife, Glenda, of Keokuk; two daughters, Nancy “Karen” Matice and her husband, Gary, of Pella, Iowa and Victoria Roller of Gowrie, Iowa; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Hanan of Greeley, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters, two brothers and a son-in-law.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the Lupus Foundation.

Shirley Hall

Shirley Ann Hall, 70, of Keokuk, died at 2:00 AM Monday, January 31, 2005, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born icon January 16, 1935 at St. Joseph Hospital In Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond P. and Marjorie L. Kaiser Jobe. She married icon James O. Kelly on January 17, 1954. She married icon Eugene L. Hall on April 6, 1965. He survives. She lived in Keokuk most of her life and had worked in retail at Likes Jewelers and Cales Vogue.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene L. Hall of Keokuk; her parents, Raymond and Marjorie Jobe of Keokuk; five children, Crystal Peterson of Jacksonville, Florida, James R. Kelly and his wife, Daren, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Anne Rose and her husband, Wes, of Keokuk, Eric Kelly and his wife, Jennifer, of Spokane, Washington and Eugene L. Hall II and his wife, Dena, of Lake Stevens, Washington; two sisters, Nancy Karle and her husband, Bill, of Ballwin, Missouri and Sallie Herring of Keokuk; six stepchildren; eleven grandchildren and thirteen step grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery S. Kelly, and a stepson, Thomas Hall.

Graveside services were held Friday, February 4, 2005 at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Rev. Tyrone Seay officiating.

Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice.

DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.

Edward L. Guymon

Edward L. Guymon, 56, of Keokuk, died Tuesday, October 21, 2003 in Keokuk, Iowa.

Edward Guymon was born icon on March 17, 1947 in Keokuk. He was the son of Henry and Gladys Connor Guymon. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict and was a disabled American Veteran. He liked to fish and enjoyed helping people. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include two sons, Edward T. Guymon and James Guymon both of Florida; one daughter, Margaret Moe of Mississippi; three sisters, Mary Whitledge and her husband, Walter, of Keokuk, Iowa, Mary Jefferson of Keokuk, Iowa, and Alice Kramer of Reno, Nevada; one half-sister, Sandra Jones, of Keokuk, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.

Services were Monday, October 27, 2003 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Larry Post officiating. Burial was in Keokuk National Cemetery with military rites.

Margie L. Grimes

Margie L. Grimes, 81, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa.

Margie Grimes was born icon on May 16, 1923 in Keokuk, Iowa. She was the daughter of Horace F. and Elva Bell Stephenson Mann. She married icon Manley B. Grimes on May 29, 1944 in Cairo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1999. She was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bel Air Baptist Church of Keokuk, the American Legion Auxiliary of Keokuk, and the Malta Shrine of White Shrine of Jerusalem. She enjoyed playing card with friends, crocheting, gardening and her dog.

Survivors two children, David Grimes and his wife, Miriam, of Donnellson, Iowa and Patricia Grimes Gabel and her husband, Chris, of Dexter, Michigan; One sister, Evelyn Nye and her husband, Robert, of Keokuk, Iowa; A sister-in-law, Edith Pata, of Gloucester, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Jennifer Wright and her husband, Steve, of Willmar, Minnesota and Kristin Grimes of Donnellson, Iowa; One great-grandson, Elijah Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers, Chester, Horace, Howard, Robert, Gilbert, and Oscar Mann; one granddaughter, Erica Grimes; and one sister, Elva Schrick.

Services were Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Mike McMillen officiating. Burial was in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bel Air Baptist Church of Keokuk.

Larry M. Grice

Larry Michael Grice, 58, of Keokuk, died at 6:15 PM Monday, March 29, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Mr. Grice was born icon August 29, 1945, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Charles Richard and Olivia Rosencrans Grice. He moved from Florida to Keokuk in 1995. He had worked at Keokuk Country Club as Golf Assistant and then owned Southeast Iowa Golf Cart store. He was a member of Keokuk Elks Lodge #106. He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, University of Miami Hurricanes, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved the game of golf.

He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Minter and her husband, Jim, of Keokuk; twin sons, Keith Grice and his wife, Toni, of Florida and Kevin Grice and his wife, April, of Florida; four grandchildren; his mother, Olivia Grice of Keokuk; a brother, Gary Grice and his wife, Diana, of Keokuk; a sister, Becky Overton and her husband, Mark, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; and three nephews, and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his father and several aunts and uncles.

Graveside services were held Friday, April 2, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Park with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Burial followed the service.

A public Elks memorial service was held Thursday at DeJong's Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Elks Fairview Golf Course.

Ted L. Gorham

Ted L. Gorham, 77, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Sunday, September 26, 2004 at 3:00 A.M. at his home in Keokuk.

Ted Gorham was born icon on February 8, 1927 in Mt. Union, Iowa. He was the son of Joe and Dimple Fern Aldridge Gorham. He married icon Shirley Holmes on August 20, 1949 in Ft. Madison, Iowa. She survives. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a helicopter mechanic. He had lived in Keokuk for the last sixty years and had been employed at General Mills first as a mechanic and then as a foreman. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a loyal friend to all who knew him. He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Gorham, of Keokuk, Iowa; a son, Doug Gorham, of Keokuk; two special granddaughters, Teddi and Katie, of Keokuk, Iowa; four brothers, Richard Gorham of Keokuk, Iowa, Jack Gorham of Keokuk, Iowa, Robert Gorham of Palmyra, Missouri, and John Gorham of Ft. Madison, Iowa; and one sister, Wahneta Morelang of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Services were Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial with military rites was in Hickory Grove Cemetery north of Keokuk.

Margaret "Maggie" Glasscock

Margaret '“Maggie'” Louise Radel Glasscock, 70, of Keokuk, died Monday, July 28, 2003 at 2:35 P.M. at her home in Keokuk, Iowa.

Margaret Glasscock was born icon on October 18, 1932 in Keokuk, Iowa. She was the daughter of Orville W. and Mary M. Greave's Radel. She married icon Clyde L. Glasscock on October 8, 1949 in Burlington, Iowa. He survives. She was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and had been employed at Shellor Globe for twelve years and also as a cook for the Keokuk Community School District. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keokuk and held the positions of Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, Chairman of Transportation, and Chairman of the Hostess Committee. She belonged to the American Baptist Women Organization. She enjoyed her family and friends. She loved to garden, cook, crochet, and read.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde L. Glasscock, of Keokuk, Iowa; four children Kurt Glasscock and his wife, Grace, of Keokuk, Sally Brotherton and her husband, Gary, of Keokuk, Mike Glasscock and his wife, Toni, of Keokuk, and Suzy Glasscock of Ft. Madison, Iowa and her special friend, Don Spradling; one sister, Mary Jane Miller, of Keokuk, Iowa; two brothers, Robert Radel of Keokuk, Iowa and Bill Radel of Idaho; eleven grandchildren, Clint (Jolyn) Glasscock, Dan (Alyssa) Glasscock, Chelsey (Rob) Riffle, Yates (Mandy) Brotherton, Ryan (LeAnn) Brotherton, Tad (Shelly) Glasscock, Tim (Samantha) Glasscock, Anthony Glasscock, AndrewGlasscock, Travis (Tina) Fox, and Niky Smith; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Lillian Radel; and a brother, Orville J. Radel.

Services were Thursday, July 31, 2003 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Dale Thomas officiating. Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery north of Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Keokuk of to the donor’s choice.

Milford Vincent Gilbo

Milford Vincent Gilbo, 88, of Tempe, Arizona and formerly of Alexandria, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 29, 2004 at the Banner Desert Hospital in Tempe, Arizona.

Milford was born icon on September 10, 1915 in Alexandria, Missouri. He was the son of Joseph “Jody” B. and Ethel F. Huston Gilbo. He married icon Doris Biggs on April 13, 1952. She survives. During World War II he served with the United States Army Air Corps. He had lived in Tempe, Arizona for the past twenty-six years. He was the owner and operator of the Gilbo’s Grocery in Alexandria, A & W Restaurant in Keokuk, Gilbo Insurance and Gilbo’s Drive Inn at Canton, Missouri. The family farm is in Alexandria, Missouri. He was a past President of the Tempe Lions Club and belonged to the Masons, A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Louise Gilbo of Tempe, Arizona; one son, J Vince Gilbo of Houston, Texas; and one daughter, Marian Jo Gilbo of Chandler, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Services were Saturday, April 3, 2004 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Herbert Gould officiating. Burial was in Frazee Cemetery in rural Wayland, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Wonderland Camp, 18591 Miller Circle, Rocky Mount, Missouri, 65072. Wonderland Camp is a camp for mentally and physically challenged individuals and is a non-profit organization.

Edward "Eddie" Gates

Edward L. “'Eddie'” Gates, 59, of Keokuk, Iowa dies Sunday, November 9, 2003 at 10:20 A.M. at his home.

Eddie Gates was born icon on November 8, 1944 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the son of Frank E. and Cecile M. Hammel Gates. He married icon Patricia “Patsy” Donahue on May 8, 1965 in Keokuk. She survives. He had lived in Keokuk for the past thirty-three years. Prior to that, he had resided in the Alexandria, Missouri area and had graduated from Kahoka High School in 1963. He had been employed as a production supervisor at Climax Molybdenum in Ft. Madison for the past twenty-six years. He served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Keokuk and the American Legion Post #41 of Keokuk. He loved fishing, NASCAR, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and their place at “Lake of the Oaks”.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia “Patsy” Gates of Keokuk, Iowa; a daughter, Marjorie Gates, of Marion, Iowa; and three brothers, Gerald “Gus” Gates and his wife, Frances, of Amery, Wisconsin, Ronald “Duck” Gates and his wife, Diane, of Alexandria, Missouri, and Dennis Gates and his wife, Chris, of Keokuk, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Robert Edward Gates; two brothers, Gilbert “Bounce” Hornung, Jr. and Jerry “Jake” Gates; and one sister, Marilyn Sue “Sis” Gates.

Services were Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk with Dr. Emmanuel Dass and Reverend Paul Pennington officiating. Burial was in Keokuk National Cemetery with full military rites.

Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice or Trinity United Methodist Church

Ray C. Finn

Ray C. Finn, 33, of Keokuk, died at 5:54 AM Friday, November 19, 2004 at Keokuk Area Hospital.

He was born icon May 24, 1971 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Raymond W. and Catherine Godines Finn. He married icon Jeannine Sylvester on February 21, 1996 in Keokuk. She survives.

He had lived in Keokuk since moving here from Salt Lake City in 1996. He had worked at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Illinois and was employed by Montebello Township. He was of the Catholic faith. He loved the outdoors, football, and fishing and was an Oakland Raiders fan.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Finn of Keokuk; two sons, Aaron Archuleta and Charles Finn of Keokuk; his mother, Catherine of Nephi, Utah; two sisters, Billene Finn of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Ann Stockton and her husband, Matt, of Crawford, Colorado; stepmother, Sunshine Stevens of Warsaw, Illinois; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents and a brother in infancy.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Rev. Paul Connelly officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Utah.

Memorials may be made for his children.

Daniel "Todd" Faber

Daniel “'Todd'” Faber, 32, of Springdale, Arkansas, and formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 in Springdale, Arkansas.

Todd Faber was born icon on December 11, 1971 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the son of Dan Faber and Kathy Trammell Long. He was a graduate of Keokuk Senior High. While he was in high school, he participated in football and wrestling, lettering in both. After graduation he joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1993. He was employed as an apprentice electrician. He was a member of the B.P.O.Elks Lodge in Springdale, Arkansas. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed boating. He enjoyed visiting with friends at the Keokuk Yacht Club. He loved being with his friends, was loved by his friends, and will be missed by us all.

Survivors include his wife, Pam, of Springdale, Arkansas; his mother, Kathy Long and stepfather, Tom Donahue, of Keokuk; stepfather, Craig Surprenant and his wife, Susie, of Keokuk; brothers, Josh Surprenant of Keokuk and T.J. Surprenant and his wife, Holly, of Washington, Illinois; grandfather, Bill Trammell, of Montrose, Iowa, grandmother, Barbara Sue Surprenant, of Keokuk,and grandmother, Alice Donahue, of Keokuk; nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dan Faber; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Don Faber; grandfather, Loren Surprenant; grandmother, Lottie Trammell; and his beloved Boxer dogs, Rufus and Elwood.

Graveside services with full military rites were Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Inurnment followed the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Keokuk Humane Society or Keokuk Area Hospital.

Billy R. Evans

Billy R. Evans, 86, of Keokuk, died at 11:40 PM Friday, April 16, 2004 at Keokuk Area Hospital.

He was born icon August 4, 1917 at Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Howard and Mildred Clark Evans. He married icon Margey Burns on April 9, 1941 and she preceded him in death. He married icon Mary Allison Jenkins on September 3, 1977. She survives.

He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed for 43 years at Union Electric in the powerhouse, retiring in 1980. He was a member of First Christian Church; a lifetime member of Odd Fellows and was Past Grand Master of State of Iowa Odd Fellows, IOOF; Member of Keokuk Lodge #29, A.F. & A.M.; member of Chapter, Council, Commander and Consistory; past member of Elmira Chapter #40, O.E.S. and Malta Shrine, White Shrine of Jerusalem; member of American Legion Post #41; and a member of Operating Engineers Union at U.E. Powerhouse. He found great joy and pride in his lodge work.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Keokuk; daughter, Nancy Brown and her husband, Charles, of Montrose, Iowa; son, Robert Evans of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandsons, James and Gary Brown; three great grandchildren, Hannah, Eleni and Naythan; two half brothers, Max Evans and Jack Evans of Keokuk; and his caregiver, Janet Johnson of Hamilton, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Anna Evans; his first wife, Margey; two brothers, Floyd and Raymond Evans; three half brothers, Eugene, Jimmy and Dale Evans; and half sister, Dorothea Fooken.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 21, at First Christian Church with Rev. Matt Hunt officiating. An Odd Fellows memorial service was also given at this time. Burial with full Military Rites was in Keokuk National Cemetery.

A public Masonic Memorial service was held at DeJong's Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Common Grounds % of First Christian Church.
