Mrs. Fred Sohn Funeral Friday At Perrys

Funeral services for Mrs. Fred SOHN, 88, of Mason City, former New Hampton resident were held Friday afternoon, February 25, at 2:30 p.m. in Perry's Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Shaffer, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. D.E. Antle sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Howard David.

Burial was in Graceland cemetery with Verne MESSERSMITH, Al FORKENBROCK, J.L. CRAWFORD, Alva MILLER, Carl KEMP and Lloyd SNYDER as pallbearers.

Mrs. SOHN died February 22nd, (1955) at a nursing home in Mason City where she had been a patient for about a week. Death was due to a stroke suffered a few weeks ago. She had made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harry FLEMING in Mason City.

Ida Fae LEWIS SOHN, daughter of Sarah and Samuel LEWIS, was born icon January 27, 1867 in New Hampton where she continued to live until the death of her husband Fred SOHN when she moved to Mason City to live with her daughter. The SOHNs operated a restaurant in New Hampton for many years. Two children were born icon to this union.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Sadie) FLEMING of Mason City and Mrs. Lettie SCHURKE of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Gerald and Harlen FLEMING of Mason City, Mrs. Leticia THELEN of Fort Worth, Texas and Mrs. Jeanne ANDERSON of Houston, Texas; seven great grandchildren and one brother, John LEWIS of New Hampton.

Attending the services from out of town were her daughters and four grandchildren including those from Texas.

Zelda Lorraine Stevens

WATERLOO - Zelda Lorraine Stevens, 82, of 1116 Wisner Dr., Waterloo, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Cedar Heights Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Zelda Lorraine Stevens was born icon May 4, 1921 in Winthrop, a daughter of George and Thelma (Davis) Postel. She graduated from East Waterloo High in 1939.

On June 11, 1955 she was united in marriage to George A. Stevens. She worked as a secretary at Geerlings Feed, RSVP, and for the Podiatrists office, Dr. Moberly, Dr. Smith, which evolved into Dr. Lance and Dr. Wieres, where she retired in 1989. She was also a member and officer of Chapter JP of the P.E.O. National Secretarys Association and the Waterloo Womens Club.

Left to honor her memory are her husband, George Stevens of Waterloo: two daughters; Patricia (John) Mauser of Indianapolis, Ind., Gayle (Paul) Wilcox of Charles City: one son; Eric Alton Stevens, Marion: grandsons David (Julie) Mauser and their children, Clara and Henry, of Indianapolis, Ind., Kevin Mauser also of Indianapolis, Ind., and Nathan Wilcox of Norman, Okla.: granddaughters Karen (Frank) DeWitt IV and their children, Jaima and Justin, of Honeoye, N.Y., Susan (John) Spiegel of Gas City, Ind., Beth (Charley) Moore of Lafayette, Ind., and Emily Wilcox of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Burdette and Marvin: and two sisters; Wanda Fairbanks and YaVonne Cooley.

Augusta DREWELOW

DREWELOW - At her home three miles southeast of New Hampton, on Thursday June 13, 1901, Mrs. Gustav DREWELOW, aged 66 years.

Mrs. DREWELOW had been ill since February with a pulmonary affection, which battled all treatment. She had been contained to her bed for six weeks and the end was, to her, welcome surcease from suffering.

Deceased, whose maiden name was Augusta DREWELOW, was a native of Prussia. She came to America in 1859 and was married icon in that year to Mr. Gustav DREWELOW, they having been kins-people and neighbors in their native land. They first settled in Stapleton Township, afterward removing to the farm where she died.

She leaves besides the husband, five children-four sons and a daughter. They are Herman of Boyd; Gustav, Fred and Albert, residing east of town, and Mrs. Henry HEIDECKER, living west of town.

The funeral was held from the Baptist Church, Saturday, and burial was made in Graceland Cemetery.

Michael Gorden

DELTONA, FLMichael R. Gorden, 60, a truck driver for Transport American of Eagan, Minn., and formerly of Charles City,, died at his home in Deltona, Fla., on August 6, 2003.

Born in Minneapolis on September 8, 1942, Gorden was a 1961 graduate of Charles City High School. During his junior year, in 1960, he was the Iowa state wrestling champion at 165 pounds. Throughout the rest of his life, he was actively involved in Judo as well, becoming a sandan and earning his 3rd degree black belt. He was also a lifelong practitioner of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

Following high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He then lived in St. Paul, Minn., until 1997, when he moved to Florida.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Karla, of 2506 Dumas Dr., Deltona, Fla., 32739; a son, Derrick, St. Paul; a daughter, Mercedes Gorden, Minneapolis; two brothers, David, Apple Valley, Minn., and Richard, Des Moines; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Sally and Lawrence Wiltse, and by his grandparents, Frank and Selma Osten, Osage.

The family requests that any memorials be made to the United States Judo Association, 21 North Union Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80909, or to any nearby Christian Science Reading Room.

William ESCHWEILER

Funeral services were held at 10:30 am on Friday, November 4, 1977 in the Immaculate Conception Church of Riceville for William Christopher ESCHWEILER, who passed away Nov 1, 1977 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage. The Reverend Gregory HEMESATH officiated at the Mass of Requiem.

He was born icon Jan 17, 1890 in Stacyville, IA the son of John and Maggie ESCHWEILER. He lived in the Riceville area all of his life. He was a farmer by trade and attended the local country school. He was the oldest member of the Rov Gue Post 244 of the American Legion of Riceville and was a Private in the United States Army and served during World War I. He is survived by one sister, Agatha, of Riceville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with the Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robert Lockhart

Robert Lockhart, 90, a resident of 701 7th Avenue, Charles City, died Monday, September 1, 2003, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Memorial services for Robert Lockhart will be held at a later date. Per Roberts request his body was donated to the Mayo Clinic.

The Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Andrew Lockhart was born icon May 5, 1913, at Granite Falls, Minn., the son of Louis and Dorothy (Hurst) Lockhart. He graduated from the Charles City High School. On October 15, 1938, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Merrick at her parents home in Dougherty. Bob was employed at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company for 39 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, St. Charles Masonic Lodge #141, Charles City Chamber of Commerce, and was past president of the White Motor Management Club. Bob was an outdoorsman as seen in his interest in fishing, hiking, and gardening. He also had special interest in the Floyd County Museum and was a great supporter for Charles City.

Living family members include his wife, Marjorie of Charles City; three daughters, Sharon (Robert) Schmiedel of Cedar Rapids, Lynne (Scott) Gabel of Port Aransas, Texas, and Susan (James) Greathouse of Kissimmee, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce Horn of Charles City, and Margery Olson of Rapid City, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Carol Jean, a grandson, Joseph Schmiedel, and two brothers, Kenneth and Gene Lockhart.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Charles City Arts Center.

Ole O. FLATJORD

On last Friday at the home of his son, Ole HAUGEN, living west of Jerico, occurred the death of Ole Olson FLATJORD, age 84 years. The deceased was born icon in Norway, December 22, 1826, where he resided for many years. On April 14, 1867 he came to America and locatd in Jacksonville Township, this county, where he has been an honorable citizen for these many years.

Five children were born icon to this good man, three of whom still survive: Ole HAUGEN, Olive FLATJORD, and Mrs Martin NELSON.

The funeral was held Saturday at 2pm from the Crane Creek Church and interment in the parish cemetery.

Charles Schulz

ROCKFORD Charles R. Schulz, 87, of Glendale, Ariz., passed away on Friday, August 15, 2003. A memorial mass will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 6, 2003. Charles will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford, next to his dear wife Lois, a Rockford native.

The Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Rockford is in charge of the arrangements.

Aged Ionia Man Laid to Rest -
Mr. Lewis Schoenfeld died at his home near his son, July 8th - was in his 84th year.

Ionia Correspondent--
On Wednesday morning, July 8th, a his home near his son, Theodore, south of Ionia, occurred the death of Mr. Lewis SCHOENFELD, aged 83 years, 6 months and 11 days. The funeral services were held at the home on Friday at 9 o'clock and burial took place in Greenwood Cemetery.

The deceased was one of the early settlers of this county. He was a sturdy, industrious citizen and one who met with much success. He is survived by several children and other relatives.

Jolene Kingery

AUSTIN, Minn. - Funeral services for Jolene Kingery will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 19, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church, Greene, with Pastor Paul Uzel officiating.

Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., today, Thursday, September 18, 2003, at Reids Funeral Chapel, Greene. There will be a public Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service.

Jolene Marguerite Kingery was born icon December 11, 1950, in the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City. She was the daughter of Maynard and Lorraine (Ewald) Kingery and died at home on Sunday, September 14, 2003.

Jolene received her education in the Charles City Public Schools, graduated in 1969 and attended Hamilton Business College, Mason City. She has been employed at Hormel in Austin, Minn. for 31 years.

As a youth she was active in 4-H and church youth activities. She was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greene, and attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Austin, Minn. Jolene enjoyed needlepoint and attending the activities of her nieces and nephews. She was a fan of Elvis Presley and Country Music.

Jolene will be greatly missed by her mom and dad; sisters Linda Keith and husband David, Rockford, Marilyn Muhle, Solon; and her nieces and nephews who she dearly loved: Laura and Ryan Van Roo, Janette and Nathan Friesen, Angela Keith, Eric, Lean and Jacob Muhle.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the family.

Reids Funeral Chapel in Greene is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Cole

CHARLES CITY - Marie Cole, 85, formerly of 1307 D St. died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City of cancer.

Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home with burial to follow in Sunnyside Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to service time.

Marie was born icon March 29, 1918 at Osage to Carl and Marie Richsmann. On Sept. 25, 1946 she was united in marriage to Wesley G. Waterman in Charles City. He died in October, 1970 and on Nov. 3, 1973 Marie married icon Wayne H. Cole. He passed away January 23, 2000.

She had previously worked at the Osage Hospital.

Survivors include one son; Gerald Waterman of Illinois: two daughters; Colleen Ortmayer and Janice Barrett, both of Charles City: thirteen grandchildren and one sister; Dawn Taylor of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one son, one step daughter and one sister.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Icena Koenigsfeld

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City for Icena Koenigsfeld, 85, a former resident of 907 South Johnson Street, Charles City, who died Monday, September 22, 2003, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Leona Sylvester-Abram

Leona E. Sylvester-Abram, 86, of 807 5th St., Charles City, died Monday afternoon, September 22, 2003, at the Salsbury Baptist Home, Charles City. Graveside Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 25, at Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. Those wishing to extend memorials or an expression of sympathy may direct them to the family.

Leona Elizabeth Abram was born icon January 15, 1917, in Rockford, Iowa, to Charles E. and Esther M. (Zimmer) Steele. She was one of seven children. On October 19, 1935, Leona was united in marriage to Martin H. Sylvester at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Leona had lived most all of her life in Charles City. She was employed as a Dietary Aide with the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City until retiring in 1980. Leona attended St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a part of the Rachel Church Circle. Leonaâs interest and leisure activities included tending to her flowers, gardening, crochet, cooking and baking delightful meals for family and friends.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her son, Ron Sylvester and his wife, Judy of Denver, Iowa; daughter, Delores Griffin of Charles City; sister, Violet Corbin of Oelwein; brother, Wallace Steele and his wife, Genevieve of Ham Lake, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Sharon Jorgensen of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Leona will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Martin Sylvester in 1965 and W.R. Ray Abram in 1984; her son Gary Sylvester; granddaughter, Sherri Cosgriff; three brothers, Darrel, Ray and Clyde and one sister, Mina Smith.
