Ludwig SCHOENFELD

Ludwig SCHOENFELD was born
Nov 24, 1830, in the province Posen, Germany, and died at his home in Ionia July 8th, 1914, having reached the very mature age of 83 years, 7 months, and 14 days.
In 1865 he came to America with his wife and three children and settled in Wisconsin. In 1867 he came to Iowa and settled in Chickasaw County, near Ionia, where his wife died in 1879. Later he was married
to Johanna RINNER, who also preceded him in death.
He was one of the early settlers of the county and experienced many trials and hardships, but these were bravely borne and he lived to see better days. He was one of the charter members of the Evangelical Association in this section of the county. He leaves to mourn his departure four sons and two daughters, twenty-five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at the home of his son and were conducted by Rev. J.V. Knoll of Alta Vista. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua.
Ted Trainer
Ted Trainer, 61, a resident of 1826 Cedar View Drive, Charles City, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City from complications of a brain stem tumor.
Funeral services for Ted Trainer will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Revs. Dennis Niezwaag, pastor of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Pastor Paul Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. The Charles City Ceremonial Unit will conduct military honors.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and an hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
Teddy Norman Trainer was born
November 28, 1941, at Charles City, the son of Charles and Irma (Bucknell) Trainer. He attended Charles City High School. Ted served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1963 where he received distinguished service awards for East German border patrol, marksmanship and as a tank driver. On October 3, 1964, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ready. Ted touched many people in his life. He started work at the Ellendale Dairy, which was family owned, and Kirsch Body Shop. He worked 17 years at White Farm where he was a machinist and supervisor. In 1987, Diversified Manufacturing was established where Ted worked as shop supervisor until his retirement on October 1, 2003. Teds sharp wit, exceptional wisdom and candor will be missed by all that knew him. He was an avid sportsman which was displayed through his love of auto racing, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. Teds abilities with his hands were one of a kind. He was blessed with the talents to fix anything. However, Teds favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted and extremely faithful husband, dad, and grandpa. Ted was an active member in his church and knew Jesus as his savior. We are comforted knowing that Ted is now walking with the Lord!
Those left to cherish the memory of his unconditional love are his wife, Pat of Charles City; three children, Tony (Cheryl) Trainer of Monticello, Minn., Tim (Samantha) of Mason City, and Tracy (Jason) Thurm of Humboldt; six grandsons, Samuel, Isaac, Gabriel, Jacob, Joseph, and Vincent; his mother, Irma Kay of Manchester; three brothers, Dick Trainer of Austin, Texas, Don (Nancy) Trainer of Manchester, and Tom (Janet) Trainer of Charles City; a half sister, Valerie Trainer of Charles City; two half brothers, John and Joe Trainer; and many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and special uncle John Aird.
Russell Schroeder Sr.
Russell H. Schroeder Sr., 80, of Charles City, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, August 16, at Hauser Funeral Home, with Pastor David Werges, St. John Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 48 p.m. Friday at Hauser Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.
Russell H. Schroeder was born
February 9, 1923, in Elma, the son of Homer and Myrtle (Diestler) Schroeder. He graduated from Elma High School. On August 12, 1944, Russell was united in marriage to Viola Debban in Austin, Minn. The couple farmed many years in the Charles City area. Russell worked for the Oliver Corporation, which was later the White Farm Co. in Charles City. He retired in 1975, and continued farming. Russell lived for fishing and was an excellent carpenter, making many wooden crafts for his wife and family. Russell was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Russell is survived and lovingly remembered by five children: "Ginny" Horton and husband Roger of New Hampton, Russell Schroeder Jr. and wife Vicky, Gary Schroeder, Tamara Sutton and husband Roger, all of Charles City; and Devon Schroeder and fiance Evelyn of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, DeDra Smith, Joshua Schroeder, Rod Starkey, and Benjamin Jon Schroeder; two great grandchildren, Samuel McCarty and Niklas Smith; sister Wanda Stuber, brothers Robert, Kenneth, Dean, and Ronald Schroeder.
Russell leaves to join his beloved wife Viola, his parents, sisters Evelyn Hart and Lois Schroeder, and brother Dale Schroeder.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the St. Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
MARVELYN A. GROVE

Marvelyn A. GROVE, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, in Prairie Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis., after a sudden illness. Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Garden City United Methodist Church.
Burial: Monona City Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and 11a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Schultz’s Funeral Home, Monona.
Survivors include a son, Dennis of Monona; two daughters Jacquelyn BUTTERFIELD of Stillwater, Minn., and Judith OELKE of Monona; and a sister, Elaine SHRIVER of Moquoketa.
Harlan Dean Trappe
MASON CITY Harlan Dean Trappe, 63, of 2336 22nd St SW, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2003, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with Pastor Paul C. Nelson, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials may be given to the Harlan Dean Trappe Memorial Fund.
Harlan Dean Trappe was born
October 17, 1940 near Rossville, a son of Willard and Eva (Sawvell) Trappe.
Dean attended Clear Lake High School. He drove truck for many years with Central States Steel, and the U.S. Postal service. He also drove armored truck for Wells Fargo and later, Lewis Security Systems.
He enjoyed shopping, woodworking, going to casinos, and especially visiting with his family and friends.
Dean is survived by his father Willard Trappe and his wife Lucille, Charles City; two sons, Steve Trappe and his wife Jennifer, Mason City; Jim Trappe, Mason City; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Cheryl Renel, Bonduel, Wis.; Shirley Peterson, Shawano, Wis.; two brothers, Richard Trappe and his wife Carolyn, Mason City; William Trappe and his wife Linda, Bonduel, Wis.; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Dolly Theilen, Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eva and a son, Stacy.
Clair Hammond
Clair Hammond, 84, a resident of 804 South Main Street, Charles City, died Thursday, December 25, 2003, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services for Clair Hammond will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, pastor of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
Clair Edgar Hammond was born
January 6, 1919, in Nashua, the son of Edgar and Pearl (Tracy) Hammond. He attended school in Nashua and graduated from the Charles City High School where he participated in baseball and football. On Dec. 1938, he was united in marriage to Caroline R. Rodemaker in Osage. After their marriage they made their way to California where Clair worked at Lockeed Aircraft before he enlisted in the Navy. Clair served on the U.S.S. Clamorour AM 160 as Gunners Mate First Class. After the war, Clair and his family returned to Iowa and made their homes in the Osage and Charles City areas. Clair was involved with construction most of his life and was co-owner of Triad Construction Company. After the 1968 tornado in Charles City, Triad Construction rebuilt many of the municipal buildings that are present in the community today. He retired in 1981 and for eleven years traveled to Texas to spend the winters with many friends and family. Throughout his life, with the involvement of many friends and family, he enjoyed softball, football and other sports, playing cards, camping, and spending time fishing in Minnesota and South Dakota. Clair was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Most recently, Clair and Carol celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Living family members include his wife, Carol of Charles City; a son, Del (Wendi) Hammond of Excelsior, Minn; two daughters, Jodi (Guy) Edwards of Charles City and Julie (Alan) Knutson of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Jake and Jack Hammond, Jaclyn and Jamie Swiggum, Allison and Cassandra Knutson; a brother, Max Hammond of Winter Haven, Fla.; and three sisters, Loraine Powers of Charles City, Margie Hagerty of Jesup, and Elna Ponto of Albert Lea, Minn.
His parents and a brother, Glenn Hammond, preceded him in death.

The family of Agatha ESCHWEILER wishes to thank her relatives, friends and neighbors for the memorials, Masses, flowers and cards at the time of her death. Chris ZIPSE Dies After Several Years of Failing Health
Died at 2:10 Yesterday Morning. To Be Buried Friday at Lawler.
Survived By Six Children
The death of Christian Franklin ZIPSE occurred at his home early Wednesday morning, January 4, 1933. All of his children were at his bedside when the end came. For several years he has been suffering of high blood pressure. It was only until two weeks ago, however, that he became seriously troubled with the ailment. Though his death was expected shortly by relatives, it was a saddening shock to his acquaintances of this community.
The deceased was born
August 11, 1857 in Stephenson County, Illinois, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian ZIPSE. At the age of nineteen he was confirmed in the faith of the Lutheran church. He lived with his parents at the place of his birth until his marriage on April 13, 1882. He was married
to Martha ILGEN, at Orangeville, Illinois. His wife preceded him in death eight years ago. After marriage they lived for eleven years in Jo Davis County, Illinois. They then moved to a farm near Lawler. Sixteen years ago he moved to the city of New Hampton which has since been his home.
To this union three daughters and three sons were born. They are: Mrs. E.E. BROOKS, Allison, Iowa; Mrs. N.C. HARTSON, Brownsdale, Minnesota; Mrs. Howard HAMILTON, Charles City, Iowa; Will ZIPSE, New Hampton, Iowa, George ZIPSE, Frederick, Wisconsin and Ray ZIPSE, New Hampton. Besides these he leaves to mourn his passing twenty-one grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two brothers, Al ZIPSE, of New Hampton and Louis ZIPSE of Lawler.
Chris ZIPSE was over seventy-five years old, had lead a life of toil and usefulness. He worked diligently as a farmer until he was nearly sixty years of age at which time he retired from active participation in labor. He was a worthy gentleman of splendid character and his bereaved children mourn his departure.
Services will be held at his home in this city at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon with Reverend William ENGELKE officiating. He will then be taken to the Lutheran church at Lawler. Interment will be made in the Lawler Cemetery.
The relatives and friends who mourn his death have our deepest sympathy.
Louise LaBounty
Louise LaBounty, 97, a former resident of 1105 Riverside Drive, Charles City, died Monday, December 29, 2003, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.
A funeral Mass for Louise LaBounty will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Carl Ries, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.
Louise Lena Tommingo LaBounty was born
March 3, 1906, in Floyd County, the daughter of Herman and Minnie (Polfuss) Tommingo. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1925. On May 1, 1926, she was united in marriage to Harry LaBounty at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Louise and Harry lived all their lives in Charles City. Harry died June 14, 2001. She will be remembered for her skill in cooking both for her family and for various organizations, canning and sewing. Her favorite activities included playing cards and bingo. Louise was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was active in the Sacred Heart Guild, Rosary Society and St. Josephs Circle. She had also been a member of the Charles City Senior Citizens. Louise always enjoyed the time spent with all of her family.
Living family members include two daughters, Elaine Eppley, and Lorraine (Gene) Krieger both of Charles City; three sons, Donald (Char) LaBounty of Castle Rock, Colo., Kenneth (Dottie) LaBounty of Montezuma, and James (Marcy) LaBounty of Charles City; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; a daughter-in-law, Arlene LaBounty of Burnsville, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Elda Meyers and Grace Tommingo both of Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Keith, and a brother.
Loren 'Larry' Luster
Loren (Larry) Luster passed away June 28, 2003. Service will be held today, July 3, 2003, at Crystal Lake Funeral Home on Penn and dowling Ave., in North Minneapolis, Minn., at 1 p.m. with a viewing at noon.
Larry Luster was born
1925 in Iowa.
He is survived by three children, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and was preceded in death by his wife Shirley.

Donovan "Whitey" Ruffridge
GREENE Donovan "Whitey" D. Ruffridge, 74 of 521 North 4th St., Greene, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, July 16, 2003, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services celebrating Dons life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church, 319 Traer St. East in Greene. Final interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with flag folding honors by Tack Barnett Post #268 of the American Legion.
The Fullerton Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 641-822-3191, is in charge of the arrangements.
Keith Van Horn
Keith Van Horn, 72, a resident of 1200 Gilbert Street, Charles City, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Funeral services for Keith Van Horn will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Michael Carey will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
Keith Warren Van Horn was born
July 13, 1931, in Butler County, the son of Ben and Lola (Woodley) Van Horn. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1949 and attended Iowa State University. Keith served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On December 30, 1963, he was united in marriage to Helen Scofield. Keith was a design engineer for Oliver/White Farm for 25 years at the Charles City plant. He was then transferred to Coldwater, Ohio, where he continued his engineering career for White Farm under the ownership of Allied Products Corporation. Later he was transferred to Independence, Mo., where he was employed as an engineer at AGCO the successor owner of White Farm retiring in June of 1994 and returning to Charles City. He also owned Keiths Trailer Sales for almost twenty years. Keith was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge. His pastime activities included camping, playing cards, working with the computer, and having coffee with his friends at the Uptown. He looked forward to spending time with his family and took special interest in his grandchildren.
Living family members include his wife, Helen of Charles City; eight children, Jolene (Russ) Godbey of Charles City, John (Denise) Scofield of Denver, Col., Gary (Zen) Van Horn of OFallen, Ill., Joy (Tom) Brown of Mason City, Marty (Kim) Van Horn of Fremont, Neb., Janan (Bob) Berstler of Solon, Jayne (Chuck) Hall of Nevada, and Lori (Paul) Wood of Clear Lake; 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; brother, Dean (Ruby) Van Horn of Minneapolis, Minn., and sister, Carol Hartman of Vancouver, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lloyd Van Horn, and a sister Marlys Leaman.
