JIM JOHNSON DIED FROM HEART ATTACK
Splendid Man, Always Active, Is Called In His Sixty-ninth Year

James JOHNSON, the brick and stone mason, died at his home in New Hampton, Thursday morning, January 23, 1931. Death was due to enlargement of the heart (myocarditis). He had been sick but a week.

The deceased was born icon in Dane County, Wisconsin, July 1, 1862. He was married icon on January 6, 1886, to Miss Nellie OLSON. To this union five children were born, two of whom died in infancy, and three of whom with their mother, remain to mourn his death. The living children are John of Sacramento, California, Mildred at home, but a student in Columbia University, New York City, and Harold of Columbus, Ohio. He also leaves one grandson, one sister, Mrs. Nels JOHNSON of Adams, Minnesota, and one brother, John JOHNSON of Minot, North Dakota.

THis funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the Crane Creek Lutheran Church, and burial was in that parish cemetery. Services were conducted by the pastor, Reverend H.O. FINSTAD.

Jim JOHNSON was a fine old man and many are sorry that he has been called from earth. He was a man of good habits, moral character, sturdy constitution and he continued to be active in his accustomed pursuits, that of stone mason, brick laying, plastering and cementing, after the usual age men ordinarily drop out of the ranks of the workers.

We mourn with his family and to his wife and children and other relatives we extend sincere sympathy.

RANCHE

Mrs. RANCHE, who passed away in Seattle, was the mother of Mrs. J.A. LAPHAM, so well known in Osage and vicinity. Her maiden name was Elizabeth SCHMIDT. She was born icon near Berlin, Germany, July 12, 1824, and was married icon in 1842, to Mr. John RANCHE. Five years later they came to America, settling in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1853, the family moved to Bradford, Iowa, where the husband and father died in 1866. They had seen pioneer days together, days of hardship mingled with good cheer of frontier fellowship. It was a hard struggle for the young wife and mother with her ten children, the oldest of whom was hardly 16 at the death of her husband, but the good Lord did not forget them and many good friends helped them to bear the burden of life. Four of the little ones died in infancy.

Mrs. RANCHE lived a quiet humble life, some years of which were spent in Osage where she attended the Baptist church. In early years she professed the Christian faith and in her later years she found much comfort in the 14th chapter of John. Loving hands ministered to her every want. She fell asleep quietly March 24, 1909, at Seattle, Washington, where she has made her home for the last four years. Her son, Mr. Charles RANCHE of Missoula, and her daughter, Miss L. Litta RANCHE of Seattle, accompanied the remains to Osage for interment. Another daughter, Mrs. Mary MOREAN of Webster City, and Prof. LAPHAM were also present. It was a source of deep regret that Mrs. LAPHAM was detained at Pella by sickness, and that Mrs. Louisa TUCKER, another daughter, was unable to come from Seattle.

Mrs. RANCHE was buried Tuesday, March 30, 1909, at 10:30 a.m., from the Baptist church of Osage, where the Pastor, Rev. L. T. FOREMAN had charge of the services. The sympathy of many friends go out to the afflicted in their bereavement.

Martha ZIPSE

HOME BEREFT BY DEATH OF MOTHER
Mrs Chris ZIPSE Died at her Home Here Friday, September 19.
Survived by Husband and Six Children.

Mrs Chris ZIPSE died at her home in New Hampton on Friday, September 19, 1924. She had been ailing for several years with diabetes but she kept up her courage and was up and around until about a week before her death when her condition became very critical, which caused her to remain in bed where death brought relief to her suffering. But the home was greatly saddened when the kind and familiar voice of mother was no longer heard. What a sacrifice a good home must make when a mother who is near and dear to all fulfills her mission on earth and is called to her home beyond. But it is an experience every home must pass thru sooner or later and those who have passed thru the ordeal and fully know the sadness of the hour, most heartily sympathize with the ZIPSE family in their sad bereavement.

Martha Ellen ILGEN was born icon at Dakota, Illinois on March 20, 1861. She became the wife of Chris ZIPSE on April 13, 1882, the marriage taking place at Orangeville, Illinois. They made their home at Warren, Illinois for eleven years when they came to Chickasaw County, Iowa, in the year of 1893. The family has resided in New Hampton the past eight years.

Those who are left to mourn the loss of this excellent woman are her husband and six children. The children are William ZIPSE, New Hampton; Mrs. E.E. BROOKS, Shellrock, Iowa; George ZIPSE, Frederic, Wis.; Mrs. N.C. HARTSON, Fredericksburg, Iowa; Roy ZIPSE, Lawler, Iowa and Mrs. Lonnie TONN, Charles City, Iowa. She is survived by three sisters and three brothers, viz: Mrs. Sarah FIELDS and Mrs. Anna FIELDS, both reside in Kansas; Mrs. Carrie PYLE, Freeport, Ill.; John and Dan ILGEN, Stockton, Ill. and Frank ILGEN, Sauk City, Minnesota. There are also seventeen grand-children.

The funeral took place on Sunday, September 21, 1924, from the home at 2 o'clock and later from the Community Church, Rev. James B. BIRD officiating. Burial took place at Lawler.

Mrs. ZIPSE was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and her fine, Christian spirit radiated with love and affection for her home and inspired her loved ones with right living, right thinking and good behavior. Outside her home, among her neighbors and friends, the same respect and high regard was won her by her kindly ways, which could be described in the following version taken from the bible: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
