Edward G. Anthony, 76 of 2115 1st Ave. S.E. (Cottage Grove Place), died there Thursday following a sudden illness. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services will take place at Noon on Monday at the Providence Oak Hill cemetery in Tiskilwa, Illinois.
Surviving is a sister, Gladys Anthony of Cedar Rapids and a brother, Dr. Russell Anthony and wife Shirley of Cedar Rapids, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was born July 25, 1925 at Tiskilwa, Illinois to Harold and Cora (Miller) Anthony, and had been employed as the custodian at the Franklin Park Elementary School in Franklin Park, Illinois. He also was a night watchman in downtown Chicago for many years.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and was a member of the Mizpah Masonic Lodge #639 and the Medinah Shrine Temple in Chicago. He also was a Past Associate Patron of the Berwyn Chapter #529 of the Order of Eastern Star in Berwyn, Illinois.

Elaine Roberts Linge

Elaine Roberts Linge, 75 of 176 Ryecroft Drive SE, died Friday afternoon at St. Lukes Hospital following a brief illness. Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 25 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. Julie A. May of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will be in the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and at the chapel after 4 p.m. Monday. The casket will be closed at the chapel.
Elaine is survived by two sons, Scott Linge and wife Jan of Crystal, MN and Eric Linge and wife Wendy of O’Fallon, MO and her daughter Marti Jensen and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids and 5 grandchildren, Eric Jr. and Rachel Linge of O’Fallon, MO and Laura, Scott and Erica Jensen of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband Scott in 1986, her brother, Burton Roberts and her sister, Lucille Johnson.
Elaine was born February 9, 1927 in Valley Junction, Iowa the daughter of Earl and Eva (Clardy) Roberts. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. She married Carl Scott Linge on August 14, 1948 in Moline, IL. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and PEO Chapter GM. She also was a member of the Cedar Rapids Country Club. Elaine was co-founder of the Palmer Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in West Union, Iowa. As a young mother, she enjoyed her role as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader in Fayette, Iowa. Elaine was also a long time supporter of Upper Iowa University. She thoroughly enjoyed golf, travel, bridge, oil painting and spending time with her family at their cabin on the Mississippi. Elaine had a zest for life and a wonderful sense of adventure. Memorials may be made in Elaine’s memory to the Upper Iowa University Endowment Fund, P.O. 1857, Fayette, Iowa 52142.

Nancy Sue Day

Nancy Sue Thompson (Aronson) Day, 65, of Norway, Iowa, and formerly of Marion, died Wednesday at University Hospitals in Iowa City following complications from pulmonary disease. A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. today at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home by Revs. Steve and Cheri Whisler, Norway United Methodist Church and Joyce Fehlhaver, a Christian Science Reader. Cremation was held and inurnment will be at the Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may greet the family at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Cedar Memorial Family Center and Library.
Survivors include husband Burtwin of Norway; two daughters, Heather Aronson Schatten (Dr. Gerald Schatten) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Jacqueline Sue Aaronson-Glaab (Travis Glaab) of Tucson, Arizona; a son John M. Aronson (Jamie) of Town and Country, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Madeline and Samantha Schatten; Tennyson and William Aaronson-Glaab; and Gabriella and Ethan Aronson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Thomas Bradley Aronson, and brothers John and Charles Thompson.
Nancy was born October 19, 1936 in Des Moines to John and Florence (George) Thompson and was married to Burtwin Day on August 1, 1987 in Iowa City. She had been the Controller with Central Iowa Power Cooperative prior to her retirement in 2000.
One of the first female National Merit Scholars, Nancy received a BS from Iowa State University and an MBA from the University of Vermont before pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Iowa, where she taught in the Department of Accounting. She had been an Assistant Professor at Mt. Mercy College and Adjunct Professor at Kirkwood Community College, as well as an Instructor at the University of Vermont and at Trinity and Concord Colleges. She was a member of the American Accounting Association and the American Woman's Society of Certified Public Accountants.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial donations to the charity of their choice.

Glenn W Sellers

Glenn W. Sellers, 81, of 4400 E Ave NE, died Monday, February 25, 2002, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Memorial services at 11 AM Thursday in First Presbyterian Church in Marion with Rev. Howard Chapman officiating. Private inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the church after 10 AM on Thursday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Cordelia, a son Glenn Jr. of Rochester, Minnesota, and a sister Betty Bebbington of Evans, Georgia.
Also survived by three nephews and one niece.
Glenn was born June 26, 1920, in Barthell, Kentucky to Thomas and Mabel Trainman Sellers. He married Cordelia R. McSpadden on November 4, 1950, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Glenn was an engineer at Rockwell for 27 and a half years retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion and a senior member of IEEE.

Edith M. Furry

Edith M. Furry, 86, a resident of the Mechanicsville Nursing Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, February 25, 2002, at the Nursing Center following a short illness. Services at 3 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Dr. Herbert Isenberg of the Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Thursday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son David and wife Judy Furry of Mechanicsville, two daughters Nancy Boehm of Houston, Texas, and Dreanna Nuss of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband, a brother Donald Boughan, two sisters Geraldine Boughan and Evalee Kepler, a daughter Barbara Furry, and a son-in-law Edward Nuss.
Edith was born November 16, 1915 in Hedrick, Iowa to Charles and Mary Scott Boughan. She married Lawrence M. Furry on April 25, 1933 in Cedar Rapids. He died November 11, 1964. Edith was a administrative assistant at Harnischfeger's for over 25 years. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 40 years and a member of Chapter DK of P.E.O. She also volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital for many years.
Edith was a loving and caring mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Gary K Mitchell

Gary K. Mitchell, 59, of 5649 Ohio Street SW, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, in his home from Lung Cancer with his wife and sons by his side. Memorial services with Military honors at 10 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev Christine Wagner-Hecht hospice of Mercy Chaplain will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include his wife Martina, his mother Nellie Mitchell of Unionville, Missouri, sons Charles with support of Anita and family, and Troy with support of Donele and family, all of Cedar Rapids, and a sister Irmadeane Bowman and husband Don of Camdenton, Missouri.
Also survived by two nephews, Rick Bowman of Cedar Rapids, and Ron Bowman of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his father Gurney Mitchell.
Gary was born November 5, 1942 in Putnam County, Missouri. He married Martina Springer on September 26, 1970 in Unionville, Missouri. Gary was a sheetmetal worker for Local 263. Gary and Martina owned and operated the Blue Collar lounge for the past 12 years. He was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and a lifetime member of VFW Post No 788. He enjoyed billiards and fishing.

Linda Lou Clifton

Linda Lou Clifton, 39, of 3095 Primrose St., Marion, died Thursday at her residence of Hodgkin’s disease. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Marion by Revs. Howard Chapman and Julie Anderson officiating. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday and at the church after 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
Surviving is her husband Wendell, daughter Amber Sue and son Ryan James, both at home, her parents Keith and Margaret Sue Wallace of Marion and brother Scott Wallace, also of Marion. Also surviving are her aunt and uncle, Nancy and Roger Burkhart and two cousins, Sharon Sterbis and Bryce Burkhart.
She was born on May 11, 1962 in Cedar Rapids to Keith and Margaret Sue (Schalkle) Wallace and was married to Wendell Clifton on September 24, 1988 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion.
Linda was a 1980 graduate from Linn Mar High School and received her B.A. degree in Business Management from Central College in Pella in 1985.
She had formerly been employed by Waldenbooks, the Clothes Works at Lindale Mall where she was an assistant manager and Rockwell.
She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion and participated in their youth activities while growing up. She enjoyed taking care of her children and doing things with them. Linda was fond of cats, enjoyed reading and doing rubber stamp art.
Friends may, if they wish, make contributions to the First Presbyterian Church in Marion or Camp Wyoming.

Betty Lou Moel

Betty Lou Moel, 72, of Iowa City, formerly of Solon, Marion, and Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002 in her home following a short illness. Services at 1 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Judy Gingerich Chaplain with the Iowa City Hospice will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include her husband Dean, two daughters Linda Shimerda of San Antonio, Texas, and Patti Bortz of Solon, three sons Gary and Mike both of Solon, Jack of Lisbon, a sister Sandy Trimble of Marion, and a brother Ronnie Umsted of Mesa, Arizona.
Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law Lyle and Jo Moel of Zavalla Texas, and two sisters-in-law, Sharon Schilling of Phoenix, Arizona, and Billie Schowengerdt of San Ramon, California.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
Betty was born March 6, 1929, in Cedar Rapids to Walter and Ruth Stoner Umsted who were former owners and operators of the Little Flower Shop in Cedar Rapids from 1939 to 1958. She married Dean Moel on June 14, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. Betty had worked as a florist, a sales person for Sears, and was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, fishing, and knitting.
Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
